00:00The latest weapon against health care fraud is you. At least that's what the president is hoping.
00:04The Trump administration is rolling out a new reward program that will pay whistleblowers up
00:09to 30 percent of the fines imposed on the fraudsters that they help nab. Treasury Secretary
00:13Scott Besson is planning to announce the program today and given the amount of fraud the
00:18administration believes is sloshing around the system, 70 billion between Medicaid and Medicare,
00:23tipsters could stand to make some serious coin. Confidential documents obtained by the post show
00:27the plan will use money from the fines to fund the payouts, meaning taxpayers won't be on the hook
00:32for any of it. Now, the catch is this. It needs to be some big time fraud in order to
00:38rise to the level
00:39of prompting a payout to amateur white collar crime detectives. One document reads, quote,
00:45individuals located in the United States or abroad who provide information may be eligible for awards
00:50if the information they provide leads to a successful enforcement action that results in
00:55monetary penalties exceeding one million dollars. Now, the new program mirrors a similar one run by
01:01the IRS for tax fraud.
