00:00what was a fun weekend but there was maybe i mean there's a lot of high points now i think
00:04about it
00:04but one of the really really high points was the continuation of the tournament i honestly wasn't
00:09sure if this tournament was going to mean something and make me feel something because
00:14we were starting to get to a point obviously houston losing you the coogs losing on uh on
00:18thursday very much took me to a place where the personal attachment investment was was starting
00:24to wane yeah and of course we were all in a place with houston sports generally at that point where
00:28we're like oh this is not feeling very fun uh on top of that you're looking around and it felt
00:33like
00:34you know the uh the the top dogs had kind of easy paths moving forward to where it was like
00:39all right
00:39is this also just going to be not that interesting and then came what was this uh was this yesterday
00:47yesterday it feels like it was how could you forget it feels like it was a number of days ago
00:51and yet
00:51it was just yesterday uh for me personally i was sitting in my living room and i had a few
00:55different
00:55things on and you know pursuant to the feeling or maybe the lack of feeling that i was having with
00:59the
00:59tournament i had this on tv number three i had this on quiet on tv number three i was more
01:04paying
01:04attention to some other things and but especially because duke was up a lot this is the duke uconn
01:10game mind you yeah and duke was up a lot 19 yes they were up like 20 and i was
01:14like it's over
01:15there it's on the tv but it's muted and i'll check over every once in a while i look over
01:18i'm like oh
01:19that game's a little bit closer yeah well this game's a little bit closer well there's still 11 with
01:23like six or eight minutes left and that's what i'm saying that's why i never came off of mute
01:26that's not why i never turned my full attention to it was just like all right it's a little bit
01:29closer but duke's gonna get it done all right duke stop playing with your food get the game done
01:33and then we're getting really close and i look up and i see it's a two-point game and we're
01:37in that
01:38final possession and i still don't turn on the volume because i was like all right duke is just
01:41gonna because again this is a circumstance where they're in and mounting the ball there's enough time
01:44there's probably going to be a foul or they're just going to dribble the ball out and that's what one
01:47thought
01:48yeah uh and then we get this moment that is going to be you know very highly rated in the
01:54history of
01:55march man descendings
02:16so if you didn't know what
02:18it's something that feels a little bit uh familiar in a way that's very unfortunate uh the
02:23unfortunate well the reason why i say that is it felt very much to me like a like a rockets
02:29game
02:29because all the turnovers oh so seeing uh which one only you would go there oh yeah only reggie would
02:35go you know what i think felt nothing like a rocket oh no the turnover the turnover very much spiked
02:41my brain and maybe i was i think i was actually rock watching rockets at that point maybe yeah uh
02:46because kate and boozer is ultimately the man who gets the ball and there's a trap coming and he tries
02:51to pass out of it and it's tipped and i was like well if i ain't seen that a number
02:55of times of course
02:55me being selfish and thinking about it from my perspective so it's tipped by braylon mullens
03:01and then he passes the ball off and they're like no big dog it's all you and he takes this
03:06from damn
03:06near the logo i think he was on the logo it was it was sure yeah it was pure and
03:12in that moment i
03:13just felt like i need to go and check in with my neighbors because i i'm yelling again i'm yelling
03:17at
03:17the top of my lungs but it restored the feeling in me john lopez and the question i have for
03:21you
03:22and you can take it wherever you want outside of this even was this one of the best if not
03:26the best
03:26uh ending moments that we've seen well clearly history clearly it was one of the best it might
03:31be the best and i mentioned this to you guys before the show it's the first time ever i mean
03:36think of all the march madness moments we've had like decades it's the first time ever there's been
03:41a game-winning shot to get to the final four you know the christian leitner thing twice was in the
03:46elite eight uh there were there were some other i think there's two or three others you know that
03:50were buzzer beating shots to get you know in in the elite in the elite eight first time ever and
03:57the fact that it was duke and yukon and duke had such control and duke now all of a sudden
04:03is on a
04:03little bit of a streak of like can't they win these games anymore and we'll get to that it was
04:08unbelievable but i was with you we we went to a school carnival which was a blast uh came back
04:14i was
04:14eating some cheeseburgers and frito pie at the house had the volume down had the volume down because i was
04:19i was looking at my wife because i think i might have given her a concussion but that's a different
04:23story excuse me but either way so we had the volume we need to do a well check on jan
04:27every
04:28every story you tell us about what happened with jan i'm very i'm very confused we're talking
04:32basketball right now is he hitting you is everything okay i fell on a doorknob uh no
04:40we're gonna get we're gonna get an email i guarantee okay you can leave the sunglasses on
04:44then so okay all right it's a monday at some point we may have to get back to the concussion
04:50at some point but that but so the volume was down because we're eating and there's what and all of

04:55sudden my middle son bg because the whole family was there says hey uconn won
05:02no it was on but the volume was down because we were just kind of like so you missed all
05:07of that
05:07ash well it was on technically so we had to go on but you didn't we didn't see it in
05:11real
05:11right now i'm not blaming you i just told you that i barely caught it looking over there's a
05:16lot of people that did not know yes so we all looked at each like what and then we looked
05:20at
05:20the tv and it's just the celebration and stuff so you know obviously we go back and run it back

05:25like holy moly so the answer to your question yes uh it was the maybe the greatest moment
05:33in to get to a final four ever ever the all the other ones that i have here because i
05:39was like i
05:39was where does this fit among buzzer bees all time um and jeff goodman who you know covers college
05:45hoops uh you know intently had some that he threw out there i feel like the chris jenkins 2016 for
05:52villanova is looms very very large here right that that's one that you see every time that we get the
05:57one shining moment at the end of the turn or not in the tournament but before the tournament right when
06:01we're just going through the great ones uh chris jenkins is one of those that's huge christian
06:05laner's got two of these and by the way i've i've just taken it off the table that we're not
06:09doing
06:09this we're not putting this over chris jenkins right this particular moment no which to be fair
06:14shout out to braylon uh braylon mullins not all also get like getting the tip and having the deep
06:19shot so he he creates the turnover which it kind of he creates the turnover gets a steal and makes
06:24a shot
06:25right that that three that should not be lost in this because how many times do we see a team
06:30end up in the press and not able to get the ball hell iowa moves on uh in the what
06:35is it the round
06:35of 32 because uh whoever they're playing in that moment who i of course forget in this moment of
06:40course uh it's a problem but they weren't able to you know get that press in the right place and
06:45stop
06:45the ball from getting down the court not only do they stop the get the press and stop kate and
06:49boozer
06:50from getting progress down the court so he can hold on to the basketball he tips it he steals it

06:55passes it gets it back and knocks down a tremendous shot in fact actually i would like to hear from

07:00do we have oh no we have kate and boozer oh yeah we have mullins this is braylon mullins after
07:04the
07:04game uh it was just talking about that entire moment for himself take me through that shot to
07:10winning i mean i don't know i looked up on the clock and it said it said five seconds so

07:17the ball to somebody who had made one in the game and he wanted to throw it back so i
07:21mean i saw three
07:21seconds it was the last shot just happy to see that go in so man i'm so happy but he
07:27wasn't even
07:27looking for the moment the moment came and found him yes so i think that pushes it up but i
07:32don't
07:32think it goes over a national title winning shot right maybe not but man there's just the context
07:37of it all the way that he did it uh i mean and he hadn't made it he hadn't he
07:42was cold they were
07:43all cold they were all cold from three-point range his last three-pointer in this game came
07:47with 16 minutes left in the second half in the second half yeah i mean it was it was an
07:52unbelievable thing and then the other part of this which you cannot ignore a lot of times we let's
07:57just celebrate the moment unbelievable march madness but there is a factor here of what was duke doing
08:03uh you know in that moment did you see the video from earlier in this season where uh shire the
08:10uh
08:10the head coach at duke had shown his players one of these end of game situations that had happened in
08:17the nba and i can't i'm having a hard time recalling exactly what the nba game was but i do
08:22remember
08:22the team that needed to hold on to the basketball and hold on to the lead inbounds the ball and
08:27just
08:27chucks it into the air yeah to waste the final seconds now that wouldn't have worked specifically
08:32for this uh for this ending because you had probably about what was it like five seconds something like
08:36that and you wouldn't have killed all the time by just throwing the ball in the air however it would
08:40have went a lot better if you just threw it in the air down the court okay i had two
08:44two very big
08:45questions and and it's all retrospect look in the moment it's hard to you know to react like that
08:49but john shire is a veteran player and coach and and the the number one thing is when they inbounded
08:57the ball reggie there were 10 seconds left okay it was 10 you didn't have to get the ball over

09:03court game over no and that's one thing game over my mom is uh my mom is now my personal

09:08analyst she called me after this game she goes why didn't he just hold the ball and get fouled and

09:13like that's also a good point no no that's the first thing that's the first thing that i thought
09:17of and and then the second thing is sar is a 50 50 something percent free throw shooter he inbounded
09:26the ball and had the ball at the end to try to throw it up court why do you have
09:31a 50 free throw
09:33shooter inbounding the ball which a lot of times after you inbound you get it back boom they foul and
09:37they would have had but six six seconds something like that oh so we're are we coming for shire is

09:42what we're doing right now i think john shire made two critical mistakes right there critical
09:46mistakes you have that 50 shooter not only inbounding the ball but holding the ball trying to get it over
09:50court and you didn't have to get it over half court at all just hold it lean down hold the
09:57ball squeeze
09:57it let them foul you yeah they didn't have they didn't have that in the in the right context at

10:03yeah all right so i bring you to the the best ending moments because this was a good one and

10:08that i'm glad you bring that up and i want to lean into this further future in the future but
10:12hey also this happening against duke makes it sweeter i'm not gonna lie like i think i think a
10:17lot of us are from the time period where you just root against duke because that's what you're supposed
10:21to do as a red-blooded american and i feel like we've lost that and it was kind of nice

10:25again to the point of you realize that we we are so anti-duke like or at least we have

10:32they realize we're we're rooting for that uh the hurley boy over there oh yeah yeah you realize
10:38that that's what we're doing he's psychotic did you see him after the game yes he's psychotic
10:41it's bobby right dan dan was at uh or is it bobby was at uh arizona there we go i

10:47every time dan is over here do you see what he did after the game after the head thing he

10:51nose to nose with an official and not in no good way it touches him yeah forehead to forehead i'm
10:57like this is like a head person he was psychotic looking and we're like that's the guy we're
11:01we don't want to rock with you we'd rather have him we would rather have him and his team win
11:07than you over here dude because that's how much we dislike you yes that that was a wild moment all
11:12right so let's play a game real quick just to end this off uh i will give you another circumstance
11:17tell me if it is if it is better than braylon mullis and buzzer beater to send duke home okay
11:22and uh go to the final four all right so no chris jenkins i'm already putting that there no christian
11:26laytner 92 versus kentucky in the elite eight i think it's close but i think this will pass it
11:32i think the laytner was number one probably just even though you hate duke just because of the
11:37turnaround the grant hill throw to midcourt all that stuff yeah all right i'll put another one of
11:41those uh duke christian laytner to beat yukon 1990 elite eight yeah that was amazing but no okay yeah
11:47uh how about luke may to beat kentucky 2017 elite eight do you recall that was the no i don't

11:55one was that don't worry about it we'll slide past it yeah um and then just to be a jerk

12:09those are champ slice i had to do it it's one of the ones those are the ones that are

12:19land at the top yeah yeah yeah so this is top five in our minds oh easy and we got
12:23we got to watch that
12:24yeah and we almost missed it because man we also forget man this isn't just that last moment duke

12:51against the u of h they had a 97.5 win percentage and lost this year 98.7 and lost
