00:10Welcome to MojoPlays and I'm so sorry I've had like 60 ounces of cold brew.
00:13Today we are looking into those moments in Metal Gear games that made us want to snap
00:17our controllers in half. These are the hardest parts in every Metal Gear game. We are focusing
00:22in on missions and moments rather than boss fights for this list because I've already
00:27covered bosses in a separate list. That being said, some entries I don't really have a
00:31choice. Metal Gear Survive because the missions aren't that hard. Ghost babble. Before we
00:37continue, we publish content all week long so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to
00:42get notified of our latest videos. Underground Tunnel Metal Gear.
00:53This is some bulls**t. There is a rule I have for difficulty in video games and that is
00:57that even the hardest and most pain inducing sections in games should be technically achievable
01:03on the first try for expert gamers. If the only way to beat a section of a game is to
01:07die just so you can learn, I will inevitably hate it and the underground tunnel in the original
01:12Metal Gear is a complete trial and error. It also comes in the end game of a game where
01:17dying is actually a pain in the ass. These back to back rooms have invisible pitfalls and there is
01:23no way to know where the pitfall traps are without a guide and even still you probably have to get
01:27out
01:27a pen and paper to draw a map as you learn. Metal Gear, buy a jacket with a bunch of
01:32pockets on it
01:33and take a hike!
01:38The Swamp Maze Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake
01:47The Swamp Maze in Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake is notoriously difficult due to its invisible
01:51sinking zones which admittedly have been tweaked to make the player sink slower in future re-releases
01:56and no wonder in the original MSX version it was basically instant death. The lack of a clear path
02:02and the necessity to memorize safe spots through goddamn trial and error make it so frustrating
02:07you want to walk into the swamp yourself. Adding to the challenge, enemies patrol the area,
02:12forcing players to stay alert while navigating. Whatever.
02:24The whole thing Snake's Revenge
02:26I promise this is the only entry where I'll cheat and throw the entire game into the mix, but I
02:37barely
02:38want to justify this game with an entry as it is. As the only non-canon game on our list,
02:42I think, don't
02:43quote me on that. Snake's Revenge has become infamously hated by fans. And it's not even because of the
02:48story. The gameplay is infamously unforgiving and not in a fun or interesting way. The necessity for
02:54items means that you have to abuse the respawning loot sheet just to stand a chance. And 95% of
03:00the
03:00items you come across are necessary for progression. So you'll be going up and down, back to front and
03:05sideways 300 times just to get to the end of this letdown of an experience.
03:15The torture sequence, Metal Gear Solid.
03:18Don't you kill me yet, item of love, liberty.
03:24Now there are a lot of tough moments in the original Metal Gear Solid. Moments like finding
03:28Meryl's codec code on the back of the game's CD case, which can be borderline impossible if you
03:32weren't paying attention. And the boss fight with Psycho Mantis, which requires you to plug the
03:36controller into the second port, just to hit him. But we are focusing instead on the torture
03:41sequence. And specifically the torture sequence when players try to save Meryl and beat it.
03:46This moment is one of the only moments in video games that has actually left me with a cramp and
03:51a pain in my arm. The fast tapping required to beat the section is shockingly a moment that a lot
03:56of players have still never been able to beat. Obviously it showed me just how unfit I am because
04:00tapping wears me out. But come on guys, it's not impossible. Just get good.
04:19Metal Gear, Metal Gear Ghost Babble.
04:25Ghost Babble was a surprisingly awesome Metal Gear entry on the Game Boy Color. And even though the game
04:30was challenging at times, nothing compared to its final boss, Metal Gear, particularly on Very
04:35Hard. It's easily among the toughest fights in the whole series. Without body armor, dodging its missiles
04:40is extremely difficult, especially due to the 4-3 aspect ratio. If you haven't prepared yourself for
04:46this fight with enough rations, you may as well reload a few saves back.
04:58MGS1 Snake VR Variety Level 1, Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance
05:19Admittedly, this isn't from the original MGS2 release, but the Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance
05:23re-release introduced hundreds of VR missions, alternate missions, and non-canon snake tales,
05:29giving players more time with Solid Snake, and introducing moments that were far harder than
05:33anything in the original story. These missions featured 4 different versions of Snake, each
05:38increasing in difficulty. The standard MGS2 Snake is the easiest, though his missions still remain
05:43challenging. In VR Variety Level 4, he must defend an injured Meryl from 26 enemies using sniper fire.
05:48The hardest version, MGS1 Snake, faces a tougher Variety Level 1, defending a cardboard box
05:54from even more enemies.
06:09Communication Tower Run, Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes
06:17In both Metal Gear Solid and its GameCube remake, The Twin Snakes, Solid Snake must escape the genome
06:23soldiers by sprinting up multiple flights of stairs in the communication tower. In the original game,
06:27this sequence was tough until players realised that stun grenades worked on every guard,
06:31making a non-lethal approach easier than fighting. However, The Twin Snakes changed this. Stun grenades
06:37only affected their immediate area, making them ineffective. Players had to rely on running,
06:42gunning, and using rations for instant healing. It's an oddly parred section for those who haven't
06:47perfected their process after 25 years of playing this game.
06:56Krasnogoye Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater
07:04Krasnogoye, for those who don't remember the Russian names, is the mountain region in Metal Gear
07:08Solid 3, and it is one of the toughest areas due to its steep terrain, heavy enemy presence,
07:13and low visibility. Somehow, no matter how many times I've played this game, climbing the terrain
07:18to get to Eva always ends up being a stamina draining stealth nightmare where someone always
07:23spots me and I have to fight my way to the entrance she waits at, where I then hide in
07:27a corner and
07:27cry until the bad man leaves me alone. This is a specific entry because it's not that it's so hard
07:32it's unbeatable, but more that it's basically impossible to do it smoothly, especially with the
07:37original fixed camera. Gene Boss Fight Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops
07:53What's it going to be? Loyalty to your country, or loyalty to yourself?
08:00Okay, okay, here's another boss fight, but the game just isn't that hard. The Gene Boss Fight in Metal
08:05Gear Solid Portable Ops is widely regarded as one of the game's toughest challenges, especially for
08:09first-timers, much like the rest of our entries. Its difficulty comes from Gene's aggressive AI,
08:15fast-paced attacks, and unpredictable fighting style. You gotta be ready to react rather than
08:20prepare. His combat is heavily focused on close range encounters and rapid dodges, making it hard to
08:25land consistent hits. It's a little bit of a style change, but it's totally achievable when you improve
08:30those skills. Assault on Outer Haven, Metal Gear Solid 4, Guns of the Patriots
08:56There are a handful of sections in this game where the gameplay clashes in a pretty ugly way,
09:01making the moments feel impossible, from tailing the resistance member through the city in an oddly
09:05difficult stealth section, to taking down Crying Wolf with limited visibility. But after 10 to 20
09:11playthroughs of this game, there is only one moment that forces me to plow through a few game overs,
09:16screens, and that is the assault on Outer Haven. The whole thing, including the fight with Mantis,
09:21is a bit tricky, but the hardest section comes right in the first area, where you have to get
09:25from one side of the ship's deck, to the other, where you need a few good seconds of safety to
09:30open
09:30the door. Getting there stealthy is borderline impossible, and fighting your way through the
09:34frogs and the geckos feels like an unrelenting barrage, where you fight through tears to get a moment
09:39of reprieve to open that f***ing door.
09:59Head to the Control Tower S-Rank Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker.
10:03The controlling Peace Walker is located to the North East. Go back East the way you came, then head North
10:09from there.
10:09While Peace Walker offers a handful of hard moments, one that stands out is the Get to the
10:14Control Tower mission, particularly when experienced in S-Rank. The mission reaches its climax as Snake
10:19faces his ultimate challenge, a formidable squad of commandos and a menacing helicopter,
10:24all with their sights locked onto the player. The tension is heightened by the dwindling ammunition
10:29reserves and the destruction of the building the player enters, which strips away most of their cover.
10:33It's thrilling in easy mode. It's a nightmare and hard.
10:41VR Mission 18 Metal Gear Rising Revengeance
10:50MGS1 introduced VR missions for players to test their stealth skills. They returned in MGS2 and later
10:56appeared in Metal Gear Rising. These missions range from easy to brutally difficult, particularly in MGS2,
11:02but I can't talk about that anymore. Metal Gear Rising's VR missions focus purely on difficulty,
11:08with VR Mission 18 being the most infamous. Players must survive waves of tough enemies
11:13within 10 minutes while having minimal health and blade mode gauge. Taking damage forces them to land
11:19perfect Zandatsu executions to recover. I have nothing more to say, this is just really, really damn hard.
11:25Let's get into this video.
11:31Let's get into this video.
11:324. Extracting PAZ, Metal Gear Solid V, Ground Zeros
11:44Alright. Admittedly, there aren't a lot of options for missions in the prequel play test to the Phantom Pain, so
11:49we're focusing on the final section of the main mission, but in the hardest mode.
11:53If you haven't experienced the hardest difficulty of Grand Zeros,
11:56enemies will basically spot you instantly
11:58if you're within 40 meters of them and breathing too hard.
12:02The final section of the game requires you to break into the main facility,
12:05grab paths limiting you to handguns and extract,
12:07but the extraction is borderline impossible
12:10if you don't get out of there and complete stealth.
12:12This mission, depending on your luck with enemies,
12:14can range from, oh my god, how did I do that?
12:16That was so easy, to I'm selling this game, this console and my house.
12:32A Quiet Exit, Metal Gear Solid V, The Phantom Pain.
12:47In A Quiet Exit in MGS5,
12:50Snake must rescue Quiet from Russian forces at Lamar Cart Palace.
12:54The palace is under siege from waves of soldiers,
12:56armored vehicles, choppers and tanks.
12:59Each wave offers a brief respite,
13:01but surviving unscathed demands firepower, cover, supply drops and a bit of luck.
13:06For added challenge, side objectives push players further,
13:09like extracting 14 vehicles, nearly impossible without the wormhole Fulton,
13:13or ensuring Quiet takes no damage,
13:15requiring players to destroy threats quickly before they can attack.
13:18100% is as hard as it can get.
13:29Retrieving Sahilanthropus, Metal Gear Survive.
13:38The nature of this list requires me to finish on this entry,
13:42and to be honest, I'm furious about it.
13:44But let's be professional and wrap a bow on this thing.
13:47The retrieving Sahilanthropus mission in Metal Gear Survive
13:50is pretty difficult due to overwhelming enemy waves,
13:53limited resources and a strict time limit.
13:55Players must defend a point while fending off relentless wanderers,
13:58including powerful bombers and armored enemies.
14:01Precise base building, trap placement and ammo conservation is crucial.
14:05Widely regarded as one of the game's toughest fights,
14:08it demands precise strategy and a deep understanding of its mechanics to succeed.
14:12It's almost as annoying as the game itself.
14:14Yes, got one last dig in.
14:16See you guys next time.
