00:29The Rhythm Minigame, God of War 3
00:32God of War 3 is rife with stressful moments for both Kratos and the player.
00:42But, if there's one moment that stands out, it's the Flame of Olympus puzzles in the Olympian Citadel.
00:48Specifically, it's the giant heart puzzle.
00:51And, if you want to fight Hercules, you're doing that musical puzzle.
00:55It's not the most difficult thing in the world, and maybe it was designed to break up the pacing a
01:00bit,
01:00but it seems to be a little too good at that, and it just takes you out of the game.
01:05Why is Kratos struggling with a puzzle like this?
01:13Berserker Trio, God of War Ragnarok
01:24Everyone knows the Berserker mini-bosses are difficult, and there seems to be a trend with recent games including extremely
01:31hard duo bosses.
01:33But, in Ragnarok, it's the Berserker Trio, with Svipdegur the Cold and the Sisters of Ithska.
01:39It's already a top contender for difficulty, but in terms of stress, this boss battle easily takes the cake.
01:46Svipdegur will rush down with two axes while each sister respectively zones you with projectiles.
01:52Their combined relentless offense means that you'll be spending most of your time dodging with barely any opportunities to strike
01:58back.
02:03Once we have defeated these berserkers, what then?
02:06We pay the king a visit and give him more of the same.
02:09The Trial of Archimedes, God of War Ascension
02:12God of War Ascension is a prequel, but they really didn't have to take the hellish level design from the
02:17early games with it.
02:18Nevertheless, here we are with The Trial of Archimedes.
02:22As mentioned before, this level design would make Hades cry.
02:26It's pretty much just puzzles at first glance, which doesn't seem so intimidating.
02:30But the real challenge comes from the grueling combat you'll have to endure in between.
02:44This thing is so tough that it was patched to make it easier.
02:48And even then, it's still a Herculean task to overcome.
03:00Seagren, God of War 2018
03:08Seagren is a name that inspires fear and awe in many.
03:12Gamers remember the trial and error they had to endure against this absolute monster of a foe.
03:18And if there's one boss fight in the same vein as the trio of berserkers, it'd be Seagren.
03:23She has since become an infamous God of War boss, and has become iconic for her difficulty.
03:29Many controllers have died in her name, and many more are sure to fall in future attempts against her.
03:35Each Valkyrie leading up to her is challenging in their own right, and she puts together every single element of
03:42that in her moveset.
03:43Seagren is not to be made fun of.
03:46Thank you, friends. You have saved the Valkyries.
03:50Death of Deimos, God of War, Ghost of Sparta.
04:00You let this happen to me!
04:03You are supposed to protect me!
04:05For a lot of people, the God of War PSP games seem insignificant.
04:09But that couldn't be further from the truth, and they play a huge role in Kratos's character development.
04:14We learn of a prophecy that perfectly describes Kratos and his brother Deimos,
04:19which leads to Deimos getting abducted by Ares and Athena, when it should have been Kratos.
04:24We end up having to fight Deimos, and there's nothing more painful than having to take out someone you both
04:29feel indebted to, and also fail to save.
04:32Kratos tries to redeem himself by saving Deimos, but it just wasn't meant to be.
04:37Deimos dies anyway while fighting Thanatos, the god of death, together with Kratos.
04:41And this was the last straw to push Kratos over the edge and finally decide that all the gods must
04:47die.
04:48It is not over again. The gods will pay for this.
04:57Saving Kratos' Family, God of War
05:00I have taught you many ways to kill a mortal, Kratos.
05:05Flesh that burns, bones that break.
05:08But to break a man's spirit, is to truly destroy him.
05:16There's nothing more morbid in God of War than Kratos' own backstory.
05:20These stories haunt him, and throughout the first game, they manifest as nightmares and visions that Kratos has as you
05:27progress the story.
05:28Until Ares uses it against Kratos, as a dirty trick to try and win their fight.
05:33But, this isn't actually here for how stressful it is for Kratos, but rather how stressful it is for us,
05:39the player, to fight the Kratos clones.
05:41Although, it's definitely stressful for Kratos too.
05:43But these things are brutal on the harder difficulties.
05:46The music is dramatic, the scene changes as you fight, and the Kratos clones are really hard to deal with.
05:52It's a perfectly stressful concoction.
05:54All that is left for you is death!
06:01Oh, not, not again.
06:05Leaving Calliope, God of War, Chains of Olympus.
06:08Calliope!
06:09Father?
06:10My child.
06:13Why did you go?
06:15I am here now, child.
06:17And I will not leave you again.
06:20In God of War, Chains of Olympus, Kratos spends the majority of the game hearing Calliope's melody on his adventure.
06:27It lured him to Elysium and Persephone, who helped him enter Elysium to see Calliope again.
06:32Unfortunately, the consequences for doing so are too dire, and Kratos would forsake everything if he stayed there.
06:39Having been betrayed and tricked by Persephone, Kratos has to leave Elysium and his daughter behind.
06:44And it's almost poetic how the hardest quick-time event in the series would be Kratos pushing his daughter away,
06:51rather than his typical boss fight against the gods.
06:53It's an immensely stressful, lose-lose situation.
06:57At that moment, Kratos knew his destiny was not with Calliope.
07:02The fates were never that kind.
07:07Atreus' Sickness, God of War, 2018.
07:10Right after I finish killing your fuck-
07:23As we've established by now, if there's one thing that can get Kratos to act, it's his family.
07:29Faced with the fear of losing his child again,
07:31Kratos must rush back after Atreus' mysterious sickness takes hold in a fight against Modi.
07:36The game has built up the dependency and relationship between the two up to this point,
07:41just to make it actually sting now that you might lose him.
07:44Kratos is so scared that he's, in the literal sense, willing to travel to hell and back for a cure.
07:50So he digs back up his past and takes up the Blades of Chaos once more,
07:54all while being haunted by Athena taunting him.
07:57It's simultaneously one of the most stressful and badass moments in God of War, 2018.
08:03You cannot change.
08:06You will always be a monster.
08:13I know.
08:15Fighting the real Tyr, God of War Ragnarok, Valhalla.
08:18The invitation was yours.
08:21I would have signed it.
08:23But it was important you come here for your own reasons.
08:25With all the things Kratos has been through in God of War,
08:29it's no wonder he's got some knots and problems to work out.
08:33Narratively, that pretty much sums up what he's going to do in the Valhalla DLC too.
08:38But, mechanically and systems-wise,
08:40the God of War Ragnarok Valhalla expansion is a roguelike.
08:44And at the end of each run,
08:45he'll face off with Tyr,
08:47who can be seen as his therapist in this regard.
08:49However, Kratos' therapist is immensely powerful,
08:53and taking all that effort to get there
08:55just to get absolutely destroyed by Tyr is very stressful.
08:59That's the thing with Tyr.
09:00He's a total powerhouse.
09:02And his boss fight gets harder and harder each run.
09:06There's barely anything more stressful than reaching Tyr
09:09just for it all to be in vain and having to start over.
09:12Stop, Kratos.
09:14I yield.
09:16Hard fought.
09:19Escape from Hades, God of War.
09:21And Kratos fell into the Underworld,
09:24the river Styx beckoning below.
09:26The current strong enough to carry even the strongest mortal
09:30to his eternal resting place.
09:32With everything we've covered so far,
09:35you'd think it couldn't get any worse.
09:37But anyone who's played the first God of War
09:39could tell you there's one moment we haven't covered yet.
09:43Of course, there's no stressful God of War moment
09:45quite like the Path of Hades.
09:47Kratos is thrust into the Underworld
09:49and has to escape what's essentially Greek Hell.
09:52But what no one expected was for the real Hell
09:55to be the horrible platforming gameplay going through it.
09:58Just look at this!
10:00And once you get to the vertical pillar with the spinning blades,
10:03if you get hit once,
10:04you've got to climb it all over again.
10:07There's no doubt that this is the most stressful moment
10:10in all of God of War.
