00:00This movie is about a man who manages to get out of a crisis by reflecting aloud of his repressed
00:08emotion and when I watch this movie I thought today is a lot of talk about toxic masculinity so how
00:18necessary is it to talk about male fragility on screen?
00:26yeah I mean it's interesting to look at it as separate things maybe it's because I am a man I
00:36looked at it more about just a human rather than it just being what a man goes through so I
00:46think it's for me personally like whenever you're making something you're trying to look inward and think what actually is
00:51the truth and
00:52I know you know part of living is if you want to call it fragility or vulnerability or I would
01:00say openness you know being open
01:04it's hard to experience life or another human being if you're not open and that's really this guy's journey is
01:10opening himself up finally because when we meet him he's just
01:13you know life can work on you in some ways as you go through it where you just sort of
01:19close up and you stop feeling just as a way of coping
01:24yeah I think I agree and I think it is nice to see people talking vulnerably about where they are
01:36and figuring out a way to sometimes we
01:40we're in such a place we don't even know how to find the language to start to get out of
01:45a place like that and what it takes
01:47and I know from my own life that it took me a long time to start to find the language
01:52to describe how I'm feeling and what I'm going through and it takes a lot of guts
01:57to do that and you know in this particular instance we get to see both Alex and Tess
02:03but certainly from from my vantage point get to see Alex as this this we get to see him starting
02:10to realize and starting to open up in a way that he never has before
02:14and we get to see him behave in a way that is new to him and we we we get
02:21to see this kind of person come alive again a little bit
02:23and I think that that's really nice in a way that is yeah maybe not represented as much in in
02:29in popular media
02:31vulnerability is still a taboo nowadays I don't know I think it's it's just you know I I think over
02:39just over time it be it became a way that
02:41you know this idea of of uh sort of how men and women should be or should behave and and
02:49I think that increasingly you see that people sort of reject that
02:52and that we're all humans and there is no way what we should be is just open and vulnerable
02:57um do you think that comedy is at risk because of politically correct nowadays
03:07it feels to me like comedy is at a a massive resurgence in the last five to ten years
03:14like especially stand-up comedy is at its and like an unprecedented place
03:21um so no you know it really feels like it's it's exploding uh at the moment when you agree I
03:29would
03:30and I and I think that uh there are always subjects that that for whatever reason society deems difficult
03:38to discuss or whatever but I think that if you would look at any of the top uh comedians who
03:44are out
03:45there not even top any of the comedians that we got to see the comedians that we know who are
03:49at the
03:50cellar or wherever else they're all expressing themselves in tons of ways and that's part of
03:55the job is to they get around they talk about subjects that might that's the nature of comedy
04:00is the idea that to talk about stuff that maybe is uncomfortable
04:04do you recognize yourself in this story yeah sure yeah you know whenever you write something uh at least
04:13for me uh or or have the opportunity to make a movie you know I could pinpoint everything that's from
04:21a
04:21personal place you know even though it's imaginary that there is the origin is there's always something
04:27personal yeah I think yeah you need to build in order to for me anyway in order to really believe
04:36these things these ideas and these notions and these themes and this behavior and these emotions I have
04:42to I you for me I always make a kind of a personal connection it it's it's what brings you
04:49closer
04:49to the character my time is finished it was a pleasure talking to you thank you for the questions yeah
04:56thank you
