00:00Until at last, only their lifeless corpses remained.
00:06Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 10 of the greatest RPGs to ever grace the
00:13Nintendo 3DS.
00:14Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo Plays and ring
00:20the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:23Yo-Kai Watch 3.
00:32Admittedly, some of us weren't so sure about Yo-Kai Watch when it first debuted in 2013.
00:37It looked neat, but it wasn't until the third mainline game when we finally warmed up to it.
00:42No doubt about it, Yo-Kai Watch 3 is the best game in the franchise, as it expanded upon everything
00:48from the previous games.
00:49The Yo-Kai you could capture and befriend were exceptionally designed in visuals,
00:53the combat was revamped with a grid-based system that proved to be much more intuitive than the rotation wheel,
00:59and for once, it felt like the 3DS's technical capabilities were being put to the test with how vibrant and
01:05detailed the world was.
01:07If only more people gave it a fair chance.
01:18Persona Q, Shadow of the Labyrinth.
01:28As you'll soon see, Atlus was firing off on all cylinders throughout the 3DS's run.
01:33Persona Q was just one of many fantastic RPGs the developer pushed out during this time.
01:38In addition to a fun dungeon-crawler format akin to older RPGs,
01:43Persona Q offered enough customization with your party to where certain formations could affect story events, not just dialogue.
01:50Other than that, it's your tried-and-true Persona combat.
01:53Exploit weaknesses to gain the advantage, and utilize insanely powerful abilities.
01:58What more can you ask for?
02:04Shin Megami Tensei Strange Journey Redux
02:08The original Strange Journey on DS was already an excellent RPG,
02:19with its alignment-based combat mechanics, detailed textures and character sprites,
02:23and vast array of demons to recruit.
02:26This remake, however, came with so many extra goodies that it made Strange Journey even better to experience on 3DS.
02:33On top of redrawn character models and tweaks to certain mechanics,
02:37Strange Journey Redux includes voiceover for the entire cast, along with new story moments and characters.
02:43You could say that this was the Persona 5 Royal of Strange Journey.
02:49Atrian Odyssey 4, Legends of the Titan
03:00Yes, Atlus appears again for a third time, and it isn't the last.
03:04Like we said earlier, these guys were belting out tons of RPGs, and almost all of them were exceptional.
03:11Atrian Odyssey 4, though, is probably the best one for every kind of player.
03:16For starters, it's much more well-balanced in difficulty than the other games in the franchise,
03:21making it a much better starting point for newbies.
03:24Furthermore, the UI is much easier to read and navigate,
03:28allowing you to get a better, quicker grasp at the mechanics before the game decides to kick your teeth in.
03:33That, combined with the already-studying art style and environmental design,
03:37and you've got an incredible RPG that most folks slept on.
03:41Radiant Historia, Perfect Chronology.
03:45Can we really save the world?
03:48I don't know, but we must have faith for now.
03:52Speaking of RPGs people slept on, Radiant Historia is definitely a game any RPG fan ought to play.
03:58The original DS game was truly amazing with its music, world, and compelling time travel narrative.
04:05As for the 3DS remake, Perfect Chronology,
04:08well, how do you improve upon a game that was already inches away from perfection?
04:12It's essentially the original game, with refined character designs,
04:16a UI that's been cleaned up and easier to read,
04:18and even more scenarios to throw into the mix.
04:21And yes, this is Atlus' fourth time appearing on this list, but it is their last one.
04:27We'll make contact with the target west of here.
04:31Looks like the Grand Argarmi hasn't made it out here yet.
04:34Dragon Quest VIII, Journey of the Cursed King.
04:43Not to put yet another remake on this list,
04:46but it's kind of hard to ignore an absolute spectacle like Dragon Quest VIII.
04:50This game is already highly regarded as one of the best PS2 games ever made,
04:55so for 3DS, we won't lie, it's the same story here.
04:59This is one of the best 3DS games you could play on the handheld.
05:02This is basically the classic, but with improved visuals, a remastered soundtrack,
05:08two new party members, and of course, some new additions to the story.
05:11It's the same massive world as the original,
05:14but with a few extra bells and whistles that make it just as amazing as it was back in 2004.
05:19Monster Hunter Generations.
05:27Much like how Atlus was churning out E3 in Odyssey like crazy,
05:31Capcom threw a ton of Monster Hunter games onto the 3DS.
05:35Of them all, Generations is the one that still lives rent-free in our heads.
05:40This game was just unbelievably cool in a variety of ways.
05:44The various monsters from previous games are all here.
05:47Said monsters having mutated forms that gave them new abilities,
05:50the massive arsenal of weapons carried over from 4 Ultimate,
05:54the fact that you could play as a feline for the first time ever,
05:57there was so much to love here that it became almost impossible to set our 3DS'es down.
06:06Xenoblade Chronicles 3D.
06:08They're advancing down our weak right flank.
06:12For a bunch of solar's machines, they seem to know a thing or two.
06:15But we'll see.
06:17Now, we won't lie.
06:18This version of Xenoblade Chronicles isn't anywhere near as stunning as the original Wii version from 2010.
06:23Despite this, we want to recognize it for simply being a technical marvel.
06:28Xenoblade Chronicles is a huge game with a lot of visual detail,
06:33so much so that a regular 3DS could not handle it without it being extremely compressed.
06:39The new 3DS manages to capture the visual magic and graphical fidelity with minimal sacrifice,
06:45and it is astonishing.
06:47Plus, it still plays great, if not better, than the original game.
06:51Dunban, don't say that.
06:53The Mechon have gone now.
06:54Why would you say that?
06:57I just mean I'm prepared.
06:59Sorry.
07:00Bravely Default.
07:02There are only two tactics a real warrior needs.
07:06Frontal Assault
07:07and Death by Frontal Assault!
07:11When the remake was revealed as a Switch 2 title, we breathed a massive sigh of relief.
07:17The original Bravely Default has been stranded on 3DS ever since release,
07:22and leaving it there was a major injustice on Nintendo and Square Enix's part.
07:27Between the unique combat mechanics and the brilliant writing,
07:29you could easily sink an entire evening into Bravely Default and not realize it until hours later.
07:35If you never got to experience this game back when it first launched,
07:38we highly recommend you go grab the Switch 2 remake when you get the chance.
07:43Fire Emblem Awakening
07:51If you want to know why Fire Emblem suddenly became insanely popular in the 2010s,
07:56all you need to do is go play Fire Emblem Awakening.
08:00Just about everything in this game is done so flawlessly that it truly is the greatest RPG of
08:07any kind on the 3DS. The music, the level design, the story, literally everything here is
08:14magnificent to the finest detail. We all dunk on Fire Emblem for taking up a good portion
08:19of the Smash Bros. roster, but really, play Awakening and you will understand why this
08:26franchise has become so huge. Have you played any of these games for yourself?
