00:54Good evening and welcome in to our Covered Rockets Basketball right here on SCHN.

01:00I am Craig Ackerman.
01:01Vanessa Richardson will be joining us here shortly.
01:04As I mentioned, the Rockets wrapping up this road trip.
01:06They're wrapping up their season series with New Orleans and Ryan.
01:09The first three games of this series between these two teams have been really close.
01:12They've been decided by a grand total of six points.
01:15New Orleans has already been eliminated from playoff contention, but we know this game is going to be competitive.
01:20Yeah, they always have been, and Houston owes New Orleans a bit of payback.
01:23And here's the thing.
01:24New Orleans has a lot of length.
01:26They're athletic, and for some reason, like you said, Craig, these have always been close matchups.
01:30Now, Jabari Smith Jr. had 21 points and 16 rebounds on the Rockets' latest win at Memphis.
01:36Hopefully, that will propel him to having another big ballgame here tonight.
01:39Yeah, Craig.
01:40He's an X-factor with this ball club.
01:41You can always rely on his defense and his rebounding.
01:44But a big key is him staying aggressive and assertive on the offensive end, getting out early in transition in
01:50the half court, going and demanding the basketball.
01:53And when Kevin and Alpi are doubled, he's got to be a big-time outlet, whether at the rim, getting
01:58an offensive rebound, or moving the ball side-to-side to his teammates.
02:02He had a 32-point game against New Orleans earlier this season in Houston back in January.
02:07Let's hope for a repeat performance here tonight.
02:10Now, including tonight, there's only nine games left for the Rockets here in the regular season.
02:15And look, despite the bumpy road, it has been.
02:18As we take a look at the Rockets' remaining schedule with the majority of those games coming at Toyota Center,
02:22the Rockets still have a chance to make a strong push as they get ready for the playoffs.
02:27Right now, the focus is not to look at this calendar, but for Houston to be the best version of
02:32themselves.
02:32They've got a lot to fix, Craig.
02:35Transition defense, the turnovers, chemistry offensively.
02:39And, again, finishing ball games.
02:40So, for Houston, be the best version of yourself.

03:33Hi, everybody.
03:34I'm Vanessa Richardson.
03:35And if you follow basketball, you know that a box score doesn't always show the way a player wreaks havoc
03:40or disrupts the other team.
03:41All of the things that Torrey Eason has been known to do in years prior.
03:45But we definitely saw that against the Memphis Grizzlies.
03:48Torrey, a very important part of that win.
03:51And when you talk about the box score, Jabari Smith Jr., hello, DeAndre Jordan, said he was Torrey.
03:56He said he was picking up full court, causing havoc, crashing the glass.
03:59That's who he is.
04:00We need more of that from him.
04:02And I know we will see it.
04:03Meanwhile, Imei Adoka said Torrey was active.
04:06He mixed it up, slashed, pushed tempo, disrupted them on offense.
04:09He didn't just rely on his jump shots.
04:11He said when your shots are not falling, I always tell guys you have to affect the game in other
04:17ways.
04:17The Rockets certainly look like a different team when Torrey is playing that well.
04:21And they hope to see more of that not only tonight against the Pelicans, but as the regular season winds
04:25down.

04:58And for the Houston Rockets, the five you were expecting, Thompson, Shepard, Shengun, Smith, and Durant.
05:02A bit of a different look for New Orleans than they started a couple weeks ago in Houston because Trey
05:07Murphy is out with an injury.
05:08Here they go with DeJounte Murray, Herb Jones, one more conventional starting lineup for them.
05:12Eve Meesey, Sadiq Bey is having a terrific season, and Zion Williamson.
05:18New Orleans coming in, having lost four straight.
05:20The Rockets trying to win their second in a row after winning in Memphis.
05:24Ryan, it's now time for the key to the game, presented by Toyota.
05:26First off, gravity.
05:28Houston's got to execute off of the double teams on Alprin Shengun on the block and on his drive.
05:33And Kevin Durant, when he gets doubled, just about any and everywhere.
05:37Secondly, transition defense.
05:39You've got to do a better job getting back, communicating, loading to the ball, making teams have to work side
05:44to side to get a good look.
05:45And 50-50 balls.
05:47If you can win those extra effort plays, it could be a huge difference.
05:51And Trey Eason was pretty good in the last game and see if he could pick up off of the
05:55great things he did well.
05:57They help on Bey now to Murray.
05:59He missed their last game, a loss up in Toronto.
06:02But as you see there, he's back here tonight.
06:04He's played exceptionally well in his career against the Rockets.
06:06Zion Williamson with a thunderous throwdown to get the scoring started tonight here in the Crescent City.
06:13Again, he's electric around the rim.
06:16For Houston, it's still going to take two or three bodies to stop him.
06:20And again, with this great touch, he can still get looks off.
06:23Off one foot, the mini Flamingo for Shengun answers.
06:26You speak about touch, and Alfie has been really good with unconventional looks that he can throw in anywhere around
06:3310 to 15 feet.
06:36Herb Jones, he'll shoot over Shepard.
06:39That's a brick.
06:40Missed it badly.
06:41Way long as it ricocheted to Shengun.
06:45Dumps it down to Jabari coming up that 21-16 point game.
06:48And Memphis draws two off in the corner.
06:50Shepard no dip three.
06:51It dances off to Macy.
06:53I know he didn't make it, but that no dip three is special.
06:55That's hours of gym work being put in by Reed Shepard.
06:59And he's typically really good on those.
07:04And the rebound to Amen Thompson.
07:07You've got guys just worried about being consistent in the three, and he's knocking down no dip threes.
07:11And how about that from Kevin Durant?
07:12How about that for consistency?
07:14For like, oh, for my ears.

07:20He came out of the womb shooting 40% from three.

07:25And a pound rockets.
07:28Hey, man, I like this.
07:29Reed Shepard, he's matched up with Herb Jones.
07:31And Herb's known for more of a defender.
07:33And he had a good contest on the three.
07:36He just fought through and got up under Jones, who's a little slighter of frame.
07:40But so far, so good for Reed Shepard defensively.
07:50Bay trying to find some daylight and did eventually on Jabari Smith Jr.
07:54against Sadiq Bay.
07:55Healthy this season and having a fantastic season.

08:01I'm still scarred from that game that Houston lost.
08:03And Sadiq Bay just put the team on his back.
08:06Yeah, that was the game here.
08:07Here's Jabari running down the straightaway three.
08:11Great sign offensively for Houston.
08:13But the key for Emei, he wants to see this group lock in on the defensive end.
08:18Now, the last time the Rockets are here, Zayun Hobson looks like he has a ton of life and energy
08:23here tonight.
08:24For Jabari, you got to get off and help.
08:27I know you want to squeeze and let Alphi get under, but Zayun, he's a huge contortionist once he's in
08:34the air.
08:34Well, again, last time the Rockets were here in mid-December, they blew a 25-point lead of a third
08:39and lost in overtime.
08:43Rockets lead the series 2-1.
08:45Durant that time, but Jones in his space misses, and the rebound ricochets out of bounds.
08:51Emei likes to get those tight looks.
08:53The reason being, with Kevin and Alphi, they don't normally switch them, and when they're really tight, it's hard to
08:59double that quick.
09:00Zayun, again, looking to attack.
09:02Got a wall off the paint.
09:03This is one of the best paint-scoring teams in the league.
09:06Meese gets fouled.
09:07He'll go to the free-throw line.
09:08I'm telling you, man, I like Meese's game.
09:10He continues to get better and better.
09:12When he's in the game, he's aggressive.
09:14He had moments where he started for the Pelicans, and, again, I think he's just really coming to his own.

09:39A lot of that is because of Zion Williamson.
09:46They're second in the league in overall paint points per game.
09:4957.5 per is what they average, and they're number one in the league when it comes to percentage of

10:00I mean, Bay rode him all the way until he took the shot.

10:04So, Shen Good's been on fire last handful of games.
10:07In fairness, Al-P just got a handful of Zion Williamson that wasn't called.
10:12But look at Sadiq Bay.
10:13He's pushing.
10:13He's grabbing.
10:14He's holding.
10:14And we talked about Al-P's touch is ridiculous.
10:17He's got hooks.
10:17He's got little floaters.
10:18Left hand, right hand around the lane, man.
10:21He is one of the more skilled players I have ever seen.
10:23So, he started this one off two for two.
10:25Bay, no, rebound, knocked back by Durant.
10:32The Shepard ahead to Jabari, and he will do the rest.
10:37How about that for Jabari?
10:39He's been really good running in transition.
10:41Realize it, man.
10:41If I can get six to eight points in transition, those are easy looks.
10:45A couple off spot-ups, a couple off offensive rebounds.
10:48DeJounte Murray slithering off that pick by Zion Williamson.
10:52He's able to slither himself into the paint for two.
10:55Again, DeJounte Murray plays great against the Rockets.

11:24It's been a physical game, and I don't think any side can complain about the calls on both sides.

13:28It has been a fast-paced, fun start to this basketball game.
13:32High scoring, a lot of highlights, and some big-time dunks as well.

13:41The Phoenix already mentioned they've got two of the best paint scoring teams in the league.
13:45A large part of that is because you've got two of the most paint-dominant players in the league in
13:50this one.
13:51Obviously, Zion Williams at the top of that list, as you see there, with most made shots in the restricted
13:57area this season.
13:58It's in a man Thompson with 320 of them coming into play tonight.
14:02Again, both guys like to drive, drive with purpose, with physicality, and they're very successful doing so.
14:10Yeah, again, a man Thompson, I think people overlook.
14:14They get used to how good he is and how consistent and how hard he plays every single night, man.
14:20But he is a huge part of what Houston has going.
14:23Now you see some zone here from Borrego.
14:28So, Jeremiah Fears has come in for New Orleans, had a really good rookie season.
14:32Interesting, he's doing it when Al P. stepped out the game.
14:36Normally, he's the zone buster.
14:37And he gets blocked by Macy.
14:39Excellent shot blocker, offensive rebounder, a lot of length again.
14:43When we saw them last, they were going with the smaller starting lineup that had been terrific.
14:48But with Murphy out, they're going a little bit more conventional.
14:51But Macy's really good, too.
14:53No, Macy, I'm telling you, man, they have a star right there.
14:57And Capella was trying to challenge in that world back to his right.
15:01And never, he did not get the shot off in time.
15:05It didn't go down anyway.
15:06But that's a turnover for the Rockets.
15:07I'd like to make more of that from CeCe.
15:11All right, Tar-Eason in, and he's going to be trying to harass DeJounte Murray.
