00:00Putting Leeds very much in contention, at half-time, it's Leeds 8, Warrington 12.
00:09Dave Barry, thank you very much. Oh, the timing of that try, the second from Mike Acevo for the Leeds
00:15Rhinos,
00:16and there are thousands of fans here that are battling inclement conditions,
00:20but they go in boosted at half-time after that man's second.
00:26The Warrington Wolves, well, they've been good, you can see why they're going for top of the table with a
00:31win here today.
00:32We are going to, after the break, reveal our all-time Super League 13,
00:37and to take us into the break, well, in the 30 years of this great competition as we...
00:42...with those two scores, it's a hugs-up kind of a day today.
00:45I think that Sam Purchase is making his way back to his position, it is alongside Steve McNamara.
00:52What is his second half going to deliver? What has he said to his team at half-time?
00:57And can they turn this around fully, having pulled it back thus far?
01:03Jack Smith, the referee, about to blow the whistle for the second half to get underway.
01:07Pleased to say that Barry McDermott, who was down on the touchline for that big 30-year reveal,
01:14has reappeared and hasn't drowned, contrary to popular opinion.
01:19My goodness, it's not far off, Barry. Not far off.
01:22Them two guys I'll with need a backbone, they'll be getting blown away, Wilkin and Carney.
01:27Right, second half, what are we expecting here, do you reckon?
01:30Well, Lee Dryno struggled for field position and Warrington controlled every element of the game.
01:37Great line speed and controlling the tackle from Joe Philbin.
01:42And that, again, was probably the theme of the first half,
01:45when the Grinos were trying to do anything with the ball.
01:48They were suffocated out with some uncompromising defence.
01:52Got us behind a 40, but I think Matty Ashton's fairly confident that was short of the 20.
01:57Not quite. Warrington had control of the first half.
02:01Well, it came time to take the points they did, they were good enough,
02:05some outstanding player, especially from Josh Newlis at the back.
02:08A constant threat when he's carrying the ball forward.
02:11And what about that big reveal?
02:13I can already feel social media buzzing, absolutely buzzing.
02:19Well, it was the fans team. It's the fans that have chosen that, so...
02:22Mine would have been a very different one, a very different one.
02:25I'm sure it would. I'm sure it would.
02:26I'd have a Terry O'Connor in the front row.
02:29Well, he had you, so there you go.
02:32This now is Matty Ashton looking for an outside route,
02:35but it's blocked by Brodie Crom.
02:39He's appealed to by the referee to get away and get up,
02:42and taken on by Tanganoa,
02:44and Tanganoa is short of the halfway line,
02:48as Warrington galloping forward again here,
02:50gathering a little bit of momentum in these early stages.
02:54Looking to finish this set in an element of positivity,
02:58Irwin putting it high in the air.
03:00It's a bit of a...
03:01Neither winger nor full-back could decide whose ball that was,
03:04and Siva, as a result,
03:06is caught in possession very close to his own line.
03:08We're both pointing at each other,
03:10both expecting the other one to get hold of it.
03:12Super smart there from the full-back, Lockie Miller.
03:14But confusion in the ranks from Miller and Siva.
03:20They want to correct that, and now the sun's out there.
03:22Would you, Adam and Eve?
03:26Ryan Hall with a bit dry.
03:29A couple of plays to go in this set.
03:31Where do they find themselves at the end of this?
03:32Cameron Smith shuffling up there again.
03:37Now it's the last play.
03:39It's back with Connor.
03:40He's got plenty of spin on that.
03:43That's a wonderful spin on the axis kick.
03:45And as a result, it's kicked on by Olekski,
03:48but he's offside.
03:49He knew that.
03:50He knew that.
03:51He just couldn't resist kicking the ball.
03:54Slaps himself on the back of the head.
03:55Right, we saw the big reveal.
03:57The team of the last three decades.
03:59And Jenna Brooks, I think you've found one of those players
04:02who's in that team.
04:03Absolutely.
04:04James Roby, who was voted the best hooker
04:06over the last 30 years of Super League.
04:09When you heard that, Robes, what were your first thoughts?
04:12Grateful, to be honest.
04:13Obviously, extremely grateful and humble.
04:15You know, Super League's been...
04:16I grew up as a kid, obviously, watching it first and foremost.
04:19And then to be a part of it and looking to make a career out of it.
04:22I know how lucky I am and how grateful I've been
04:24for everybody who's played a part of my career.
04:27We all know how demanding that hooker role is.
04:30What did you pride yourself on when you were playing?
04:33Probably just good old-fashioned hard work, to be honest.
04:35Just trying to put the effort in
04:37and trying to sort of lead by example.
04:39At the end of the day, if you're going to do something,
04:41you need to set the example to those around you.
04:44Yeah, just roll my sleeves up.
04:45Obviously, being a hooker, you're involved in a lot of work.
04:47Attack and defence, you just need to keep going.
04:49Listen, I know you are one of the best players
04:52to ever play in Super League.
04:54But in your opinion, who was the best?
04:57The best? It's a very hard question.
05:01I'm not sure.
05:02I kind of obviously always lean towards the guys who've been very consistent
05:05for many, many years.
05:07Obviously, you see Liam Farrell still playing now.
05:09People like Kevin Sinfield, Paul Wellens, Kieran Cunningham,
05:12people like that who played a good number of games for many, many years.
05:16James Raby, congratulations, we've got that upstairs.
05:19Ryan Hall's on his way, on his travels here.
05:22Great to hear from James Raby, Man of Steel, winner of course.
05:25I think he's the only hooker in the Super League era
05:27who's won a Man of Steel.
05:29And gets his place in that team as well.
05:32And Ryan Hall's just got a sense of yesteryear with that break.
05:36It landed into his hands, didn't it?
05:38He hasn't got the pace of yesteryear, but he had the control.
05:42He gathered as many metres upfield, and the Rhinos benefit.
05:49The sunshine is out here, and it's a penalty for Leeds.
05:53Warrington had a chance to build some real pressure on that Leeds line
05:57not that long ago, and now Leeds find themselves in a position
06:00to do the same at the other end.
06:02Just look at the weather, there'll be people who have gone in that Howard suite,
06:07had a couple of pints come out and looked around and go,
06:09what's everyone talking about?
06:13Here's Croft.
06:16Jenkins.
06:18A little cut and thrust from him, and Danny Levy stepping in there.
06:23This is Cameron Smith with a carry, and Leeds edging ever closer again.
06:32Levi, and Connor, and Croft, and here we go for that hand-trick.
06:38Michael Sebo.
06:40Three to his name.
06:45It's Warrington 12, Sebo's win.
06:48I said it, didn't I?
06:50Field position for the Rhinos is crucial.
06:54Whenever they get near their opponent's line, he started that set
06:5830 to 35 metres away, and it looks simple, it looks basic.
07:02They end up with an overload, and attackers outnumbering defenders
07:08over on Leeds his left.
07:10Ash-Anly unselfishly just tips it onto the big man.
07:16Great pass selection.
07:19Jake Connor, as he does, week in week out, pulling the strings,
07:23goes across the face of a Rhinos player.
07:27He makes no mistake when getting the ball down,
07:30but a sensational start for the Rhinos.
07:33Brodikoff, catch, pass, and that's the overlap created.
07:37Three hat-tricks in five games.
07:40We're talking about some of the great wingers down the years.
07:44He's got a way to go to catch Ryan Hall, but he's some winger, isn't he?
07:50Embryonic, Super League career.
07:52And he's 33 already, so he's not going to be here for long.
07:56But, my goodness, what an impact he's making.
08:00Connor from the touchline looking for his first successful conversion of the day.
08:05And he has it, and as a result, leads you a 12-meal down,
08:08now lead by 14 points to 12.
08:11Well, they will be grateful for the sixth,
08:12they failed to get a conversion in the first half,
08:15he went in 8-12 behind,
08:18but come out and respond in emphatic fashion.
08:22Ash-Anly, as he does week in, week out,
08:25unselfishly providing the platform.
08:27First, this is the second.
08:29A bit more fancy with the offload on the second,
08:33and then the third one.
08:35Catch, pass, give it the big man.
08:38But Warrington have gone short from the kick-off,
08:40and as a result, they have possession back.
08:44And Harrison puts them in a decent position here.
08:48Looking for a quick response here, there's your top Super League try-scorers.
08:54The leads, he's a long way behind that, isn't he?
08:57But he's catching up slowly.
09:00Here's Tanganoa.
09:04It's now with Walker, Warrington five out.
09:08Conceded three tries, back-to-back.
09:11They want to put themselves back in the driving seat here.
09:14One more play here.
09:18Philbin is going to be very slow to his feet.
09:20He's obviously been hurt down there.
09:22But he does play it.
09:23And here we go with Erwin,
09:25and Erwin tries to get the kick-off.
09:26There's shins and chips all over the place.
09:29And then there's a dive.
09:30Time off.
09:31We'll have a look at it, won't we?
09:33Well, the referee doesn't think it's a try,
09:35because he's going to the video ref, there's a clue.
09:37We've got no try on field, just confirm Walker doesn't ground the ball.
09:43Let's have a look at this.
09:46Warrington got their score.
09:48Liam Moore to adjudicate him.
09:53Okay, on field decision is no try on field,
09:55so we're just looking at on side-off side first,
09:57so we can confirm it does hit the leg,
10:00which constitutes a kick.
10:01So I'm happy to play on from this point.
10:02So let's go to see what happens from here.
10:04It's a loose ball.
10:09That's off the leg of Stone.
10:13Playing on from this point.
10:15Always part of the contest, that.
10:17So what happens here?
10:17Danny Levide takes possession of the ball.
10:21What happens to that ball?
10:29So Levide pulls the ball.
10:41So we can see what happens here is Danny Levide pulls the ball forward.
10:46At that point, that travels forward in relation to the ground.
10:49You can see his arm is moving towards the opposition lines.
10:54This is a knock-on, but we're playing on from this point for possible advantage.
10:58Because he's not been great in the end goal, so the ball's still live at this point.
11:01It's off Levide's foot.
11:04And you can see the ball is lost at that point there.
11:07So it's a knock-on by Danny Levide.
11:11I made my decision.
11:13Well, it's gonna be a knock-on by Levide, no try,
11:15but I tell you what, Danny Walker was fingertips away.
11:18Almost got to it, didn't it?
11:18Knock-on off Danny Levide.
11:20They were right to play on.
11:21Every rugby player's talk from a very early age.
11:24Play to the whistle.
11:26Warrington did, and almost, almost got a reply.
11:30No try, it's a knock-on from Danny.
11:32He pulls it on the ground.
11:34But they're not gonna like what happens next.
11:36The decision in the field is heading for Warrington.
11:38It's the Warrington fans who give their spirits a lift with that decision,
11:46and Warrington still find themselves in prime position here.
11:50A kick along the floor, a bouncing bobbling ball is gonna cause anybody trouble.
11:56The deluge of rain that we had will make the surface greasy,
12:01the ball greasy, footing greasy.
12:05He wants to have to stand and wait for that pass,
12:07and two Leeds defenders very quickly on him.
12:10As a result, the six-tattle count starts from here with the referee waving.
12:15The restart.
12:17Big push again.
12:19Stanwell gonna wrestle himself to his feet,
12:22and Walker picks up and feeds left, and Curry now to Williams.
12:27Tanganoa, poacher, supreme.
12:29But nowhere to run there, only into trouble.
12:33Back it comes for Irwin.
12:35This is Philbin from a standing start.
12:37Not the best place for him to start.
12:40He prefers to have a bit of speed in the tank before he hits the ball.
12:44Irwin again.
12:46This is Harrison, denied one in the first half, looking for maybe one in the second.
12:52Walker again.
12:54Williams offloads, and it's still kept alive here.
12:58And King with a step back on the inside, he goes low.
13:02Successfully hunting out the glorious whitewash and finding it.
13:07And Warrington in this yoyo game find themselves back in the league.
13:10He does everything right, Toby King.
13:12Gets down low, he knows the greasy surface.
13:15Even if he's a little bit short, he's gonna glide over.
13:20Offloads for Warrington.
13:23Created confusion.
13:26George Williams, doesn't he do well?
13:28Just slaps that ball behind.
13:32Josh Thewlis, as soon as the ball presents itself,
13:37knows that Toby King has a one-on-one who steps back off that left foot.
13:41Beats Jack Bird for footwork.
13:44It's a great finish.
13:46Warrington back in the game.
13:47It's a real seesaw affair, isn't it?
13:50There was a gamble there, wasn't there?
13:51A throw of the dice there by Warrington with that offload.
13:55But my goodness, double six.
13:57They're not as risky when you're near your opponent's try line, are they?
14:02He thought that risk was worth taking George Williams.
14:05He trusted his teammates and they were good enough to pick a wet, slippery ball up and get the try.
14:28They could well be costly on the end of the game, those two misses.
14:32Jake Connor, you can see there, three defenders around George Williams.
14:37And even though he gets a scruffy and tidy offload away,
14:41Toby King uses all that experience, drills down low and gets his side back in the game.
14:51Game on again, rains abating as well now, a little bit of sunshine in the air.
14:57Warrington with the lead, looking to build if they can.
14:59Leeds desperate to get themselves back in top order.
15:06Walker.
15:09Well, that possession is evened up, hasn't it?
15:11Only just over 55% there for Warrington in terms of possession.
15:16The completion rate, we're up towards 90, it's dropped a little bit for Warrington.
15:22As them play the balls in their opponent's half, Warrington 21.
15:28Harrison finds his knees, gets up and plays that ball as quickly as he can.
15:31And just pushing down the middle again.
15:35One play to go though for Warrington here.
15:41Irwin, behind the 40, but the challenge there from Callum Watkins,
15:45meant the kick was pretty woeful and Leeds were getting back on their terms.
15:50That's what he does, all the little things really well.
15:52Callum Watkins, using all that leadership, all that experience,
15:56gets up, takes time and space away from Irwin.
16:03This is Watkins again.
16:07Such a good player.
16:08High work rate, high quality.
16:12And Smith back to Brodie Croft,
16:14offers an inside route for James McConnell to try and plunder.
16:20Warrington being pushed back further and further here.
16:22Smith again.
16:24Conor.
16:26And into the hands of the Destroyer and Chief again.
16:30But he's stopped this time.
16:32He does get an offload away.
16:33Conor.
16:34Now it's with Cameron Smith.
16:36Smith steps away from a lunging few lists but can't go too much further.
16:41Outstanding defence from Warrington, you felt all money he was going to go in in the corner.
16:46Here's Croft changing the angle of attack again and puts a kick in really that only he was chasing.
16:51Easy mop up for Warrington.
16:52Another nothing kick from Brodie Croft but full credit for Warrington on defence.
16:58There were three bodies around the big man.
17:06Warrington seeking to carry on this record of course of 100% start to the season.
17:12Two cup wins, two big cup wins against Gould and Sheffield but they've been doing the business on the Super
17:19League table as well.
17:21Good defence, McDonnell working hard for Marker.
17:29Looking to put it along the ground, making it as difficult as possible with Miller.
17:35It's nicely collected, quickly returning the momentum here Leeds.
17:42This is handling across the line, just to duck in and see if there's a door open there.
17:49But there's not, Tanganoa had it closed.
17:53Well, I see it.
17:57Levi's doing big minutes here, of course, Jared O'Connor on the bench.
17:59We've not seen him so far, have we?
18:01This is Smith.
18:10It's with Croft again.
18:11And the goal cuts a line and picks a pass and the fans will take your move up.
18:19Jack Byrne with his first Leeds track on this, his full debut in the Super League.
18:29And the game swings again.
18:31A lovely work from Brody Croft in the build-up.
18:35His footwork, his deception with the ball.
18:38Creates a half gap for James McDonnell.
18:43He runs a hard line.
18:45You can see, skips in, skips out.
18:48Just opens the door to McDonnell who turns to his right, expecting the centre to be there.
18:54His first start for the Rhinos, only his second appearance.
18:59And there you go.
19:01Gets close to the line.
19:03Oh, doesn't he do well to keep it up, doesn't he?
19:07A bit like Toby King, if he'd have slid, I think he'd have got there anyway.
19:11But does remarkably well.
19:14And you can see from the passion when he gets up, he needed that, he wanted that.
19:18Wanted to let everybody at Headingley know who he is and what he's about.
19:22Did he have elbows on the ground there?
19:24Was there a hint of a double mover?
19:25Has he got elbows on the ground there?
19:27He's tackled, isn't he?
19:29If the ball is up, Dave...
19:31The elbows are on the ground, he tackled.
19:33The elbows never lifted, though, did they?
19:36OK.
19:37His elbows were always on the ground, the ball wasn't.
19:42There will probably be more people arguing about Andy Farrell and Paul Scorses not being in Super League than that's
19:47right.
19:48I accept your apology, Dave.
19:50Let's move on.
19:52This is Connor to give his side the lead.
19:56Oh, he's just put it wide again, what is that?
19:58One from four so far.
20:01And 18-18, the Scorsese remains.
20:04They could be costly in the Washoe.
20:0718-0.
20:09I felt, before a ball was kicked on the way to the match, driving, I thought,
20:14this is two evenly matched, two evenly balanced teams.
20:19And it was momentum there, wasn't it? There was no kind of second movement, so...
20:24Just ignore me, Barry, as you...
20:25I usually do, I usually do.
20:28I'm preoccupied with thinking we might be...
20:30Oh!
20:31Good take.
20:33Well, Toulouse last night were involved in a golden point game against Lea.
20:37We're not too far away, I know we've got a long way to go in the game.
20:41Just coming up to 60 minutes there or thereabouts, could we have another one?
20:45Levi out of dummy half, Leeds looking towards that left-hand side to try mid-progress again.
20:50And Warrington having been picked back once again.
20:54Watkins...
20:57Carrying with that usual athleticism of his.
21:00Levi goes out and here's Palacija, who's done really well to hold off defenders and keep that ball alive.
21:07And Miller down the middle is searching for a bit of width, and he can't find it, so he comes
21:12back to the middle.
21:13So hard to handle.
21:15And a really good quick play of the ball with two defenders on the ground, and this is Connor.
21:22Croft, and stepping through goes Bird, and Bird's having a look, puts a kick in, but there were numbers floating
21:28back from Warrington.
21:30Maybe he should have got himself, but Warrington come up with it.
21:33He should have backed himself, shouldn't he?
21:35It was a beautiful little delayed pass from Brodie Croft, inviting the centre into the space.
21:43Well, perhaps if he hadn't have scored the previous one, he might have backed himself and gone for glory.
21:48But Warrington doing up, recover well.
21:55Bird...
21:57Carting in it.
21:59Physical down the middle, as you would expect.
22:08Harrison...
22:09They win again.
22:11Oh, and the last tackle, Warrington have made a mistake!
22:14And...
22:15Connor can make that gamble because it was an advantage being played.
22:19I think there was a mistake anyway, I think it was a knock-on from Jake Connor.
22:23At that point there.
22:25But he tries to pass it around the corner, that's the first blip.
22:31Pressure put on George Williams, he had bodies in front of him.
22:35He shakes his head.
22:38Warrington in a real battle here, Leeds, returning to a little bit of form after a couple of weeks of
22:46blips.
22:48Levi...
22:50Smith.
22:51This is the push by Holroyd.
22:58Another set of sets, too much going on in the tackle.
23:01That looks a little flat.
23:03But they get away with it as Palacia takes it.
23:06Levi...
23:07Oh, he's done it!
23:09Conor Smith.
23:11Looking for his runners, Croft's the first, and here comes Bird.
23:18Ryan Hall.
23:20With a roll of deliverer.
23:22McDonnell.
23:24Again, just setting a platform here.
23:27He's done it!
23:30Levi.
23:33This is Conor.
23:35The miss out pass.
23:37Seba.
23:38But there are numbers over there, and he can't even get the ball away.
23:41Oh, has he lost that?
23:42Yes, he has.
23:43Touched, good spot.
23:45Knock on.
23:46Bird tackle.
23:48He probably felt he was closer to the sideline than he was, but as he offers that ball,
23:53Opoate and colleagues make it impossible for him to keep hold of it.
23:59Black your hand did way too long.
24:02Rivals round coming next week, of course.
24:05Early stars Friday morning, Panthers against the Storm.
24:07What a Friday this is.
24:09Hull KR against Hull FC at midday.
24:11St Helens against Wigan straight after that.
24:15And then the return of that one, Bradford against Leeds in the evening.
24:18Just sit down, go early on the Easter eggs.
24:21And enjoy your Friday, and enjoy your Saturday as well.
24:24Titans, Broncos.
24:25Huddersfield against York Knights.
24:27New to the Super League rivals round this year, of course.
24:31And Warrington against Leeds.
24:32And Warrington got a penalty here.
24:33The French derby on Saturday evening.
24:37And it doesn't stop there.
24:39You get your fill.
24:39Castleford against Wakefield.
24:42Sunday afternoon.
24:43We don't have games in the Super League anymore on Easter Monday,
24:46but we can give you an NRL offering with heels against the Tigers.
24:50And the Bench podcast every Monday.
24:53Not just an Easter special, every Monday.
24:57There's a lot of nick there from Toby King.
24:59He clashed heads with his opposite number, Jack Bird.
25:03Gets his footwork all wrong, gets his head where he's...
25:06where it shouldn't be.
25:08And then James McDonald stayed in way too long.
25:15George, George.
25:17He's in the centre today, it's probably his preferred position,
25:21but he can play standoff.
25:23He can play loose forward, play a back roll.
25:27Gonna look at that in the week to see whether there's any foul play,
25:31I think it's an accident for me.
25:35Toby King swerves away.
25:44The referee's just asking, am I on report now, referee?
25:48And the referee said, yeah, you.
25:50Don't know you yet.
25:51I tried that many times, Dave, it didn't work for me either.
26:01Belloween's kick.
26:03It's warranted a bit of leverage.
26:06Toby King getting wrapped up for the rest of the battle.
26:15Byrne, Liam Byrne.
26:23This is Luke Yates.
26:25The Japanese team very close to that halfway line.
26:29Three of the tackles gone free to go.
26:32That's by Fulis.
26:36Here's Walker again, organising things for what comes next.
26:39Luke Yates with that carry, that honest endeavour.
26:44But there's only one play to go here now.
26:47So Walker will search out one of the pivots.
26:49And again, I tell you what, Watkins was right in his face again.
26:53But that's a better kick this time.
26:55And it's a much tougher start than Leeds have on their hands now.
26:58A better kick and a better chase too.
27:00Those Warrington shirts making it difficult for Lockie Miller
27:03to gain any ground, stark momentum.
27:06And this is the part of the game that Warrington thrive in.
27:09They're looking for this on a consistent basis.
27:12Big Sebo taking it forward.
27:14Firing out of the back.
27:18And a penalty.
27:20Well, he runs right at the young half-back.
27:22He has a good run-up.
27:24Coming all the way from Kirkstone,
27:27when he gets the ball in his hand down.
27:30The young half-back, as good as he hit with ball in hand,
27:33he just can't handle the big man.
27:34Gets bumped out of the way, goes back in.
27:37And ends up riding Sebo like a Blackpool donkey.
27:43He'll enjoy that compliment, Barry, I'm sure.
27:46But Leeds now with an opportunity to build again.
27:56Back down the middle comes Hallwhite.
28:00The shaven-headed Jared O'Connor is on the field now.
28:05With a brutal haircut.
28:07And Leeds are getting closer and closer.
28:11Brodie Croft.
28:13Trying to switch the angles.
28:15Keeping Warrington guessing.
28:17Miller.
28:19Now it's McDonough.
28:21McDonough putting the shoulder in.
28:25McConnell.
28:28Just a big, brutal effort by Hallroyd.
28:31More than brutal, it's almost a tri-scoring effort.
28:35And it's going to be held up in the air and they have to go back ten and start again.
28:38Good leg drive metres after contact.
28:40From the big man Hallroyd.
28:43Yet again, Warrington handling.
28:47So the ball is played, there's one play to go here.
28:50So they'll be trying to cook something up and they go wide.
28:53And Handley is covered, but somehow he's popped it up.
28:57And on that wing again is Sivo.
29:00I don't think he's got over this time.
29:03Short of the line, short of the line.
29:04Celebrations about the defence there.
29:07Josh Thoulis.
29:10He's had a couple of chances over on that side, but every time he's collected the ball, Sivo, you can
29:14see he'll get it here.
29:16Thoulis puts his shoulder in.
29:21But what a position Warrington had to start from here and leads his line.
29:26It's going to be lightning fast in response as well.
29:29Rushing out there, just trying to crush their spirit.
29:31Great work.
29:33Try and get behind.
29:36Jared O'Connor will lead the charge.
29:39Curry, with a very decent carry in the circumstances.
29:43Relieving plenty of the pressure and now they go a little wider.
29:46To try and find some relief.
29:48Foulis does well.
29:52Irwin goes no further.
29:54Good double effort from Jack Bird.
29:5715 minutes to go, nothing to separate these two.
30:01Which way are we going?
30:05Ashland's hurt at the south stand, don't believe it.
30:12The referee wants somebody else to play the ball while he's being attended to.
30:15No sympathy is there from the referee.
30:18You can't play the ball, then give it to someone else.
30:22And he does manage to play the ball.
30:25Irwin does get that kick away.
30:28Snap and squeaky bounce there, which makes it a little more nipping up for Lockie Miller.
30:33Just allows that line to get up there.
30:39Right, back to Hall.
30:41Climbed all over by Leonburg.
30:43Jumped on his shoulders, pulled him down.
30:45Weight of effort.
30:47Walk in towards the next carry.
30:52Here's O'Connor.
30:54Smith.
30:59Conor again.
31:01Leeds building pressure.
31:04Enjoying a bit of time in this Warrington half.
31:07And here comes Handley to put the foot down.
31:10Well, he was caught and chased.
31:13Look how close.
31:15With one to go.
31:16It's back with Conor.
31:18And here comes Conor.
31:20Just cutting the hole.
31:22Through the middle of that Warrington defence.
31:26Conducting his audience.
31:29And Dane Wise in celebration.
31:31And it leads to a defense leading it.
31:34Brody Croft gets a try, but he will thank Ash Hamlet with a surge in room.
31:41Or from the left side.
31:43Incisive effort.
31:45Keeps his calm.
31:48Jared O'Connor finds the fullback as he does so often.
31:51Lockie Miller.
31:52He drifts across the attacking line.
31:54Looking for a runner.
31:56Ash Hamlet takes the tackle.
31:57Plays the ball.
31:59And now the options start to become available.
32:02Jake Conor.
32:04There's a number of things going through his mind.
32:06But often the most difficult option for a player like Jake Conor to take.
32:12Is the simple one.
32:13And on that occasion.
32:15Went against his instinct.
32:17And just tips it on.
32:18To the grateful Brody Croft.
32:21A Man of Steel four years ago.
32:24And Conor.
32:27Brady Man of Steel sticking it over.
32:30Second success of the day.
32:32And 24 points to 18.
32:34Leads back ahead by six.
32:36Oh he loves to try on a big occasion.
32:38Brody Croft doesn't he?
32:40I can recall the Rob Burrow game.
32:42He scored a wonderful try.
32:43Getting up and celebrating.
32:47Did the same in Vegas.
32:49They just nudged themselves in front.
32:51But this game is not over by any shake.
32:55Warrington will have a response.
32:57And what a-what a restart that is.
33:00Because they have it back.
33:02And he immediately trying to launch an attack here.
33:04Burn now.
33:05Will carry them all the way to the 20m mark.
33:08What a start they've got here.
33:11Warrington fans behind the sticks are greatly encouraged.
33:16Crowley.
33:19Zero from here, Walker picking up collecting, Curry, Dummies inside, Williams now with a short pass, Harrison tries to bludgeon
33:27his way through, but held on to O'Connor and Croft, now it's with Curry again, dancing steps up to
33:34the line, leads back on their own line, backs to the wall, Walker, it's with Irwin, tries to pop one
33:42out of the top, oh my goodness, it was almost a quarterbacks pass.
33:49Sorry Dave, verbals from Jake Connor, I'm just watching him, giving the young man a real gulpful, he gets up
33:56quick Jake Connor, gets in the face and cups the options down, you can see number seven from Leeds.
34:08It's good in the end, you and Irwin will want that back again, won't it?
34:15Let's go to Jenna Brooks, because I think you've got injury news down there, have you?
34:18Yeah, I do, I can tell you that Luke Yates played only three minutes of that half, went on, and
34:23then shortly after he came off, he's gone straight down the tunnel, I'll get an update for you in just
34:28a moment.
34:29Thank you for that, it needs to be time, nothing on the edge, just a few moments to go, but
34:35trying to get away from that clip edge right now, Bird, try scoring, runs into a couple of meaty challenges,
34:43rattled around.
34:46And a penalty again, that is Liam Byrne responsible.
34:51Liam Byrne is in there, Jordy Crowder is the man that gets up quick, tries to enthuse his teammates with
34:59good line speed, but he stays in too long.
35:01Taking a quick tap here, they love a tap and go.
35:08Ten minutes of this contest remaining, Edging leads his way.
35:16Oletski plays, O'Connor picks up and taken on by Miller, Miller searches left, Irwin tries to get a hold,
35:22doesn't quite, he's now with Palacio, there are two on him.
35:26And now they have penalty for Leeds, and shortly in front of the sticks, and maybe a two score lead
35:34is beckoning.
35:35Just trying to take a look at the reaction of the Rhinos players, they're celebrating the fact that they've gained
35:40an advantage,
35:41yeah, the referee has confirmed that Leeds will attempt to take the two on offer.
35:47When it gets untidy around the play of the ball, Warrington and Leeds both pick up and go, see what's
35:54available, front foot.
35:56We call it eyes up football nowadays, play what you see.
36:02It is a crazy, crazy Super League, isn't it, 2026, of all the 30 years we've watched, at the moment
36:07this just feels like the most unpredictable.
36:10Leeds were just golden in Vegas, have stumbled and failed since.
36:16But are they back on the road to victory here, Warrington unbeaten before today, are they heading for their first
36:22defeat?
36:22Still plenty of time in the game. The results we've had this weekend have been in astonishing.
36:29And who knows what is coming next. Never mind the next 30 years, the next seven days.
36:37Hunter's kick is good, and they do have an 8.3 out of 6, 26.18 it starts.
36:45They're not too overly trying, but I absolutely agree with you, Dave, I watched Wigan and Huddersfield yesterday,
36:51nobody would have predicted the way that the Giants performed away, Wigan, and then Toulouse took Leeds all the way
36:58to the edge.
36:59So the unpredictability is what we crave, that's what we want, that's why we want Dave.
37:04Oh, the kicker has sailed out of play.
37:08He's having a difficult time with it at the moment, you and I.
37:12Young Farrot learning his trade, we know his ability, we know he's a talent.
37:17But young fellas do have moments that have conquered their ways, how they live with it, that's important.
37:22We know what his ability is, what's his character like, he's made a couple of mistakes there.
37:27He'll be having those conversations in his head now, he'll be wanting something positive to do next.
37:35Well, they ain't gonna go for goal, not the circumstances for that.
37:41They are instead gonna go for touch with Lockie Miller's boot.
37:47And again, a chance to set up Kemp right where they want to be.
37:51And another score here may well be decisive.
37:56Let's see him.
37:59Jared O'Connor at dummy half, four to his left, the majority to his right, which is where he goes.
38:04Croft now again, seeking out a little bit of daylight.
38:10O'Connor, Oleski, pushing and pushing, metres after Cox, after Cairns.
38:18He's taken the navy another eight metres further than he was expected to there.
38:23O'Connor reaches, and there's a little delay of the pass again to try and fill the defence, but it's
38:29not filled.
38:29Smith is stopped, O'Connor is Connor and Croft away from one challenge and still going.
38:40Now comes the last.
38:42They'll sling it back.
38:44Smith, Connor, towards Seavers wing.
38:49The arms go off, went backwards, Hopoate collects for Warrington.
38:52Good kick and a good chase and well handled by Warrington Hopoate.
38:56That's it.
38:57Oh, that looked hard.
38:59But for he had to think about it, then whistle, then gave a penalty.
39:01Jared O'Connor against Ping.
39:03What did you call his haircut?
39:05Rufus, did you call it?
39:07He's running out of options as young Jared, a bit like his dad, but that technique.
39:12Obviously he's trying to get up quick.
39:14There's always a concern when there's more on the chin than there is on top of the head.
39:19Genetics, yeah.
39:22There's Hopoate.
39:22That's it.
39:24Six minutes and counting.
39:27Eight points at it, Warrington have to score twice.
39:31To try and eat themselves back into the game.
39:34Leeds looking to remain resolute.
39:40Irwin slammed into by upcoming defenders.
39:47And then quickly hands it on Bird now, Williams.
39:49Good recognition from Bird.
39:51He's having a good game, isn't he?
39:55Harry Newman dropped.
39:57Bird is a replacement.
39:59Passing is scruffy.
40:02Ashton goes looking on the inside.
40:04Double 10 yards backwards before he did 15 forward.
40:07But it was needs must.
40:11Williams, chip and a chase.
40:14Yeah, he's got the penalty.
40:16Two defenders came his way.
40:17Clever's right by Williams.
40:20Chip and chase.
40:21That's straight from the 90s as well, isn't it?
40:25Yeah.
40:27Uncalled, unnecessary.
40:30We're going for the captain's challenge.
40:32Good luck, fellas.
40:33We just made the captain's challenge come in.
40:35Let's hear from Liam more on this one.
40:37Liam, it's going to be the captain's challenge from Leeds.
40:39Yeah, they're challenging the decision of Williams being taken out once he's kicked the ball.
40:43My view is the players close the gap on it, mate, but they don't need to.
40:48OK, Leeds are challenging the on-field decision of a penalty play on from this point.
40:53Williams kicks the ball to himself, chases the kick, and you can see he clearly steps across
41:03and closes the gap on him, though, which constitutes an obstruction.
41:06The challenge is unsuccessful.
41:11Well, it looked like the right call right from the moment the referee blew the whistle
41:16and nothing there to change anybody's mind.
41:18A tactical one, I think.
41:20Just to give them an extra 30-40 seconds, Cam Smith leaves the field.
41:26Both players, Michalaj Aletski and Cam Smith, lean in.
41:29Take George Williams out.
41:34Eight points the difference, so he tries not good enough.
41:39This is Walker.
41:45One quickly does it with Williams, and all the defenders were coming his way.
41:50They were looking for an inside ball, possibly, but King might be in position on that occasion,
41:54but they get another go here.
41:58Crowther.
42:02Walker again.
42:04Warrington knocking at the door again.
42:06Irwin.
42:07Williams.
42:08Pops one over the top.
42:10And Smith for the corner!
42:12With a dive!
42:13Little bit of theatrics.
42:15Some acrobatics.
42:16And in the end, the finger is pointed.
42:19Time off!
42:20Referee will be having a look at this.
42:22But Josh Smith with a try that drags Warrington back into the contest.
42:29Beautiful movement from Warrington.
42:31They tested leads on the left, went all the way over to the right.
42:35And Josh Smith had no space at all to work in.
42:40Rushing defenders coming towards him.
42:44Doesn't he do well?
42:45He knows he simply has to get the ball down in the field of play.
42:50Doesn't take any chances.
42:52Leans away from the onrushing defenders.
42:55Perfect, perfect execution.
42:57Now we've got a ball game, haven't we?
42:59That's a fabulous finish, isn't it?
43:01Absolutely fabulous finish.
43:04So tight in that corner.
43:06If we'd have seen that 30 years ago, we'd have fallen off the gantry in shock.
43:10But because we see those kind of things so often.
43:15It is part of the makeup of Super League in 2026.
43:20Kick from Irwin.
43:22And he's put it wide.
43:24Got 26-22.
43:26Game on.
43:26Jenna Brooks, what have you got for us?
43:28Now I told you Luke Yates only played three minutes off the second half.
43:31I've been told it's nothing serious.
43:33It's just a stinger.
43:33However, just a few moments ago, Kalefi Tengen, Noah Warrington forward was helped down the tunnel.
43:40He doesn't look in a good way.
43:41It is a groin injury.
43:44So, we're in for the range thrust.
43:54So, four minutes just a little bit under.
43:5926-22.
44:00Warrington back within striking range.
44:03Suddenly with hope in their hearts.
44:05Leeds need to turn up the heat and defence at this end of the field.
44:10They need to be clean in defence.
44:11They need to make sure they're playing the game in this area of the field.
44:17The closer Warrington are to the try line, the more dangerous they are.
44:20That's been the case all parts of this game.
44:23Field position is imperative.
44:24Well then rolls up and gets it away quickly and Walker.
44:27Oh!
44:28Parasir!
44:30Put that one in the highlights reel.
44:32He's had that before George Williams, hasn't he?
44:35He did well to bounce up from that, didn't he?
44:38Nuts him clean off his feet.
44:41Shot!
44:42There's a kick.
44:43What a dummy half of Danny Walker.
44:46The chase is on.
44:47Lucky Miller looking to return but finding a very honest lie.
44:51He's doing reasonably well but then he's pushed back from where he started.
44:55He must have got up and looked and thought, is that Tariq Simms?
45:00He must have got up and looked and thought, what day of the week is it for a moment?
45:05Jared O'Connor.
45:08Subo is filling it all in the tough step down the middle here.
45:14O'Connor.
45:16A little bit of a jelly from Baird but he's...
45:18He's been good, Jack Bird.
45:19He's got to hold.
45:20Very good.
45:23Legs went up, referee has to decide whether that was defender's involvement but he's decided it wasn't.
45:29Miller.
45:30And away from one tackle and very nearly through the next.
45:35And on the last, Leeds will just kick to touch.
45:39Good game management.
45:41Yeah, he knows exactly what he needs to do.
45:44Countdown at this end of the field.
45:47He knows his side would love to score again but they don't necessarily need it.
45:52Well, less than two minutes to play.
45:54This is probably, possibly, Warrington's last set of six.
45:59And they would not want to have started it from here.
46:03So Leeds keep the screw tightened and they win the game.
46:08But Warrington know there's still a chance.
46:12No win.
46:14This is Williams.
46:15And now they look left.
46:18Hewless.
46:19So many speedsters in this Warrington line-up that you know there's a potential from anywhere.
46:25Williams back.
46:26Stone to Williams.
46:29Here's Walker.
46:32Curry.
46:33And closed down.
46:36Sebo a long way off his wing but closing things down neatly enough.
46:41Erwin again.
46:43He missed to himself and almost left obstruction.
46:47Run round the back of his own player.
46:49Run behind his own player.
46:50Yeah, big celebrations from Leeds in defence.
46:54Well there's the role from Bird.
46:56He's only been here two minutes.
46:58He's orchestrated himself.
47:00He's a crab.
47:01He's a barry.
47:02He's not more like this so far.
47:04We've got a captain's challenge, of course we've got a captain's challenge.
47:08It's an act of desperation.
47:10Erwin, they're running behind his own man in close proximity.
47:12And then Notch are coming to the tackle.
47:14So let's hear from the video referee again here.
47:18OK, so Warrington challenging the on-field decision of the panels.
47:21Here we can see Erwin is in possession of the ball at this point.
47:24You can see he directly runs behind the back of Joe Philby.
47:28In close proximity to the defence.
47:30At this stage he must succumb to the tackle and not take an advantage.
47:35He also, you can see he runs behind the back of Sam Stone.
47:37Which prevents Brody Croft from making a tackle.
47:40And he does not succumb to the tackle.
47:42The challenge is unsuccessful.
47:46Well no surprise there.
47:47I don't think Warrington expected that to be overturned.
47:50It was just a case of let's have a look, just in case.
47:53But it has given a penalty for Leeds.
47:56And with 40 seconds to go, South Stand is in the mood for celebration here.
48:01Yeah, well no, don't be celebrating too quickly.
48:04You and I were here on the gantry when St Helens left to right night happened.
48:12Not as good as White to West.
48:14Yeah.
48:15Great to see Eddie and Clarky and all the boys.
48:17There are actually 40 ex-Rhinos players in the corporate suites.
48:22Including lots of them that played in that first 1996 season.
48:27So a big day of celebration for the Rhinos.
48:29But Warrington...
48:31Still have time.
48:33Leeds will be conservative here.
48:34Just seeing that clock down.
48:38Warrington on the edge of losing that unbeaten record at the start of the new season.
48:44Every team in Super League will have been beaten.
48:47Every team in Super League has picked up at least one win in these opening six weeks.
48:53Unpredictable.
48:54And as exciting as it was three decades ago when it started.
48:58This will be the last play.
48:59If he gets up in time to play it.
49:02The Hooters fans.
49:04Leeds have their win.
49:06Leeds are back to winning ways.
49:10Warrington defeated for the very first time this year.
49:14But they will bounce back.
49:15No doubts about that.
49:17Leeds fans calls for celebration today.
49:20Leeds the winners.
49:21Having trailed at one point by 12 points today.
49:25Winners by 26 points to 22.
49:30Dave Barry, thank you very much.
49:32To the players of Leeds and Warrington.
49:35Thank you very much.
49:36On this Super League's 30th birthday.
49:38John Wilkin.
49:39I'm not sure we could have had much better on-field entertainment.
49:42No, fantastic.
49:43I thought he's again played with real tempo.
49:45Some quality about both sides.
49:47How they attacked.
49:49Lots to be pleased about.
49:50Brad Arthur got a reaction, didn't he?
49:52Out of his team after last week's poor performance.
49:54Well, they just played with fluency.
49:57Especially in the halves, I thought.
49:58Both Jake Connor and Brodie Croft.
50:00They combined so well and create some exceptional opportunities.
50:04You know, Mika Sivo may have made the most of them.
50:08But it was a lot of the work done on the inside, which was so clever.
50:11He framed this one as a reality check for his team after they got bounced out.
50:16But I'm not at all the same time.
