02:26So we've been monitoring the frustrations and the emotions of Sami Zayn, and we saw how he reacted earlier tonight
02:35when he found out that Trick Williams is gonna have a chance at WrestleMania and have a spot at WrestleMania.
02:40And now, here is Sami Zayn with an instant shot at a title.
02:47This is what you call a full-circle moment.

05:15has generally struggled to convert when they've taken these open challenges
05:19against the United States champion.
05:21And, wow, what a close line there.

05:25I mean, can we talk about the latest instant classic against the Mad Dragon

05:33You know, Trick Williams isn't down.

05:35And it was an absolute classic.
05:37Perhaps the SmackDown match of the year so far last week.
05:40But ultimately, victorious was the United States champ.
05:44But let's parallel that or contrast that with Sami Zayn's experience last week
05:49taking on Alistair Black.
05:52And one major distraction at ringside from Trick Williams
05:56caused Sami Zayn to eat a black mass and take a major L.
06:01Yep.
06:02And he's seated right back in that same position to watch Sami Zayn
06:05and Carmelo Hayes here for the U.S. Championship.
06:10And that might explain the cheap shot that Sami Zayn took at Trick Williams
06:13during that conversation with Nick Aldis as Carmelo Hayes
06:19looks to exacerbate the issues that Sami Zayn has been experiencing
06:24really ever since the Royal Rumble when he lost that title match
06:27against then-WWE champ Drew McIntyre.
06:31After that hot start by Sami Zayn, all of a sudden,
06:34Carmelo Hayes has found his rhythm.
06:37Springboard leg drop as Hayes regains momentum.
06:42That's right, that's right.
07:03Three weeks to go to Wrestlemania.
07:06Sami Zayn still trying to find a path there to Wrestlemania.
07:10Meanwhile, the U.S. Champion, Carmelo Hayes, week after week,
07:15I'll tell you right now, I've watched a ton of Zayn's career
07:19from the Indies through NXT and, of course, Raw, SmackDown,
07:23all the way to Wrestlemania.
07:24I have never seen a Sami Zayn looking as desperate
07:29and at times lost as this version.
07:32You can understand why when you consider where he's been in his career,
07:36what he's accomplished, and then the recent matches,
07:39the recent frustrations.
07:40We've been listening to those exchanges with Cody Rose backstage earlier tonight
07:45when he received the news from Nick Aldis
07:48about his circumstances surrounding Wrestlemania.
08:00And this is what Sami Zayn does at his best.
08:03Trying to tap into the energy of this audience.
08:06They clearly love what Zayn can do.
08:09However, with that massively grown reputation,
08:12Carmelo Hayes proving week in, week out,
08:15that he is going to be a tough test for anybody in the SmackDown locker room.
08:21Incredible how much he delivers each and every week
08:24as Sami able to kick out after the snap suplex.
08:28I mean, one of the greatest movers I think I've ever seen

08:34a man who is so creative, so inventive,

08:39And that is where he is at his best.
08:42I'll tell you, nobody else on the roster
08:44could possibly pull that move off with accuracy.

08:53He's a three-pointer, but unfortunately,
08:55it did not follow up with a three-count for Carmelo Hayes.

10:22He got the news there aren't current plans for him for WrestleMania.
10:26But perhaps a title could change that if he could pull this off against Carmelo Hayes.
10:31Carmelo Hayes has been looking pretty dominant in this one.
10:34But once again, Sami Zayn fighting from underneath and managing,
10:39when it looks like the chips are down,
10:41to get himself back into the fight.
10:45I mean, has anyone in history been able to do that as much as Sami Zayn seems to do week
10:51in, week out?

10:54Oh, and a heavy landing on the back of Sami Zayn,
10:57but that pales in comparison to the impact that US champ Carmelo Hayes just had to absorb.
11:05Take another look at a blind Sami Zayn and a huge crash landing and staring daggers into Trick Williams at

11:14They've already had one confrontation in the hallways tonight.
11:17We're hoping there won't be a second one a la last week during the Sami Zayn-Alistair Black match.

11:57and that is just one example of why Carmelo Hayes is him.

12:04Melo makes moments.
12:07As he slams it down with a tilt-a-whirl spinning face buster into the cover,

12:19And now we're going to close this one out in style is Carmelo Hayes.

12:42And it looked like it was game over at that first 48 connected,
12:45but Zayn with a burst of power.
12:47Little pop-up and a nice power bomb,
12:50and Melo living dangerously with a very late kick-out.
12:54And that's what it's all about.
12:55The Open Challenge is alive and well,
12:58but perhaps now swinging in the favor of Zayn.
13:01Oh, he's looking for Halufa,
13:02but instead Melo gets out of the way and delivers a kick of his own.
13:06And of course, the Open Challenge
13:07and the pride in defending this U.S. Championship.
13:11Sami Zayn foundational to that.
13:14But both men now starting to struggle,
13:17getting deep into the match.
13:18Bodies are hurting, lungs are on fire,
13:21and this is where instincts need to kick in.
13:24The instincts of a champion.
13:27And Sami Zayn has previously held this title.
13:30Melo is on a generational run with it.
13:32But can Zayn put this one to bed here?
