Braves prospect Hayden Harris is coming off a strong season where he made his MLB debut
Transcript
00:02So, Futures game last year, made all the way to the majors.
00:05For the most part, cruising, but once you got to the majors,
00:08what do you feel was like the biggest step you had to take next?
00:15I mean, biggest step going forward is just stay consistent,
00:19stay the course and figure out the nuances of the big leaguers
00:27aren't just going to be beat by heaters, so working on the secondary stuff,
00:31working on longer outings, whatever I can do to help the team win.
00:37Was this spring training any different for you going back,
00:39knowing that you've had that experience last year,
00:42just to kind of at least get to the big leagues,
00:45then maybe come back and start to build on that this spring?
00:48I think I felt more prepared for my off-season work,
00:52so going into spring, it was a lot probably more comfortable
00:57than my other off-seasons and spring trainings have been.
01:01Like, I kind of know the reliever with options saying, like,
01:06you're going to go up and down, so you've got to prepare
01:07for what's going to be asked of you,
01:10and I felt like I did a great job in the off-season of that.
01:13And, you know, the spring was very good, very insightful,
01:17and it was also awesome to get to work with Hef in another year with Lance
01:22and all these guys, and they know their stuff.
01:26Yeah, it's just been preparing for the season and whatever he's asking me to do.
01:31Can you talk a little bit about Hef and about him coming in?
01:33I know Cranny had a certain style.
01:35Every pitching coach has a certain style, a certain experience that they bring.
01:37With his, it seems to be that kind of younger,
01:40next-generation of pitching coach.
01:42How does he impart that knowledge on pitchers during spring training?
01:45I think the biggest thing about Hefner is he was very good at picking up
01:49how guys, you know, respond to, you know, feedback if it's in the game,
01:54if they're working on something or anything like that.
01:58Like, I'm a very, I'm not going to say cynical,
02:00but I'm very dismal myself.
02:02You know, good days, bad days, I'm looking at some of the nitpick
02:07and improve on, and he would kind of counter with the other way.
02:10Like, he'd be very positive and everything like that.
02:12And then he's, like he said himself, it could be the flip side.
02:16Like, some guys are a little bit, you know, laid back and everything,
02:19and he has to, you know, jump on them and point out some things.
02:22And I think that that's very positive and very helpful for everyone
02:28when there's someone that can give feedback in the ways that you need to hear it
02:32versus how you want to hear it.
02:34So, that was my first impression of him, and every day that we talked, whatever.
02:39Like, definitely a, you could tell he played.
02:43Like, he acted like a player that wasn't too far out of the game.
02:47And, you know, just speaking for me, I respect everything he had to say.
02:53And, you know, I asked him off the field questions, on the field questions.
02:56Like, he's a great dude to know, and he knows stuff about pitching.
