00:23I'm just looking at resumes because we're going to do 10,000 ounces this year.
00:28And we have a lot to do, so you need good people that you can count on.
00:34The truth is, somebody can write a really good resume and be terrible.
00:3830-year-old Parker Schnabel is leaning on his crew like never before.
00:45After years of running the cuts himself, he's testing his top lieutenant's ability to lead.
00:51Mitch and Brennan are getting sulfur ready to go, we'll have their wash plant firing up
00:56there very soon.
00:56We have two wash plants already running here on Dominion, Bob, and Slucifer.
01:05Two weeks into the season, and with only 400 ounces, Parker wants his 40-person crew firing
01:13on all cylinders to bring in a big haul this week and put him on track for his 10,000
01:20-ounce
01:21season goal.
01:21We do have a big crew this year, you know, a bunch of new people.
01:26Tyson has a lot of training to do.
01:28People need to understand what the expectations are and when they're doing things wrong.
01:32And if they can't correct it, then we need to get rid of it, which is always a challenge.
01:42Parker's given me more and more responsibility this year from last year.
01:47It's probably about three times as much.
01:49We have so many new people and with Parker still expecting more than double productivity as last year.
01:59That's a large ask from a lot of new people.
02:02Parker's charged rising star Tyson Lee with overseeing the huge Dominion Creek operation, where two cuts are already
02:12producing gold, the bridge cut and the recently opened Golden Mile, which Parker believes could deliver big numbers if the
02:23crew keeps it running.
02:26Hopefully the new people have a better understanding of what we expect and what we need out of them here
02:32as a mining outfit.
02:33And we're figuring out their caliber.
02:38Right now we have Michael digging pay down by Bob in the bridge cut.
02:42The cuts looking hella nice. Clearly Parker's not f***ing around. He's going for a big season this year. The size
02:48of his operation, that's massive.
02:50New recruit Mike Thompson is a veteran gold miner with years of experience operating heavy machinery.
02:59I did five years at a neighbor mine. Parker offered me this job and it's very hard to say no
03:05to.
03:05Tyson's also relying on another new hire to keep the bridge cut gold coming in.
03:11I have Amy learning how to run loader right now. She's feeding Bob and I want to throw a bunch
03:17of stuff at her with the wash plant.
03:21I have zero, zero mining experience.
03:36So for the last three days I have been doing some training and today is my first day on my
03:43own.
03:45Going from being a teacher just half a month ago, it's going to be a big transition.
03:54Greenhorn Amy Lee traded a career as a science teacher to become a gold miner.
04:02Taylor and Tatiana are my besties. Tatiana actually trained me in a rock truck, which was amazing. We had such
04:10a good time.
04:11And then on day two they just let me loose on my own and that was that.
04:16After proving herself, Tyson is putting Amy in charge of one of the most important jobs.
04:23feeding pay dirt into the wash plant.
04:30How's it going, Amy?
04:31Good, you?
04:32Pretty good.
04:33Good.
04:33How are you finding things?
04:35Now that I've gotten over a little bit of the fear, after a couple of hours it's getting better.
04:39That's good.
04:40Yeah.
04:40I'd like to do a once over the plant with you and just kind of give you some things to
04:45look at.
04:47So there's this tail drum up here, so you can see how it's nice and clean.
04:50Yeah.
04:50That's how it should always be.
04:52Yeah.
04:53If the belt walks left or right, that can be an issue.
04:56When you're feeding the wash plant, a rock gets stuck on the belt and I've had it cut the belt
05:02clean in half like a razor blade before.
05:05Yeah.
05:05If you think something is wrong, just shut it down.
05:09Okay.
05:09Just run up here, open this, rip on this.
05:14That's the breaker.
05:15Then run up there, open the bypass, close the main.
05:19Any questions?
05:20Not at this moment.
05:22Just a sponge.
05:23Yeah, let me just absorb.
05:24Yeah.
05:25You absorbed it all.
05:27Still a little bit like holy .
05:28Yeah.
05:29Oh, you'll get it.
05:30Alrighty.
05:31Go make us some gold.
05:33Okay.
05:33Have fun.
05:36When you think of all the responsibility you have and you're the sole person watching the plant, it plays on
05:45your mind a little bit.
05:49I'm really happy with Amy.
05:51Can't wait to see what she can do this season.
05:55Hey, Tyson, you on here? Tyson?
05:57Yeah, go ahead.
05:58Hey, I got a pretty big up here.
06:00Can you come have a look?
06:01I'm getting flooded out.
06:03I'm on my way.
06:06Last thing I want to do is tell Parker that the cut's flooded and we got to shut Bob down.
06:13Man, that's a lot of melt water.
06:16That's not what I needed, man.
06:18We have a lake in here.
06:20We spent so much time getting the bridge cut drain.
06:23It's getting flooded out again.
06:25The water's backing up the ditch line of the cut.
06:28I'm thinking that 8-inch culvert's not big enough.
06:31Oh, yeah.
06:32We need to rattle your hoe over and dig up this road.
06:34We got that big old culvert up there.
06:37So let's throw that puppy in.
06:39Let's get this water out of here.
06:45So we got to get this water out because right now the only pay we can chuck to Bob is
06:50in this square.
06:51If it's flooding out, Bob's going to shut down.
06:55As the 114-acre bridge cut thaws, melt water seeps into its drainage ditches
07:01where it is then channeled through an 8-inch culvert under Bob's only access road.
07:07But the narrow culvert is overwhelmed by the volume of melt water,
07:13causing the ditches to overflow and flood the cut.
07:16To stop the flood, Mike must dig up the access road
07:20and replace the small culvert with a much larger 36-inch culvert,
07:26then rebuild the road to Wash Plant Bob.
07:32I'm going to take the small little 8-inch culvert up and let the water go.
07:36If I don't hurry up and get this water figured out, Bob's going to run out of pay.
07:41That's bad news.
07:42You ain't sluicing, you ain't producing.
07:52Here comes some water, boys.
08:05Let's go get this culvert.
08:07That's the only thing I got kicking around here, so hopefully I can do the job.
08:13Throw her in.
08:16There.
08:17Send it.
08:21There's one way to put a culvert in.
08:25See if this bank falls out on me.
08:28That could suck, eh?
08:40Oh, this is sketchy, man.
08:44Anybody bring some extra undies?
08:51I can safely say that culvert's in place.
08:54I'm pretty proud of this.
08:55I feel pretty good.
08:58Mike, save the day.
09:00That was fun.
09:01That was exciting.
09:02Nice work, Mike.
09:03Yeah.
09:05She's porking.
09:06Right on.
09:07See ya.
09:09Got that done.
09:10Tyson's happy.
09:11Pretty proud of myself.
09:13Pretty happy.
09:14It was like, what, an hour?
09:15Hour and five minutes?
09:16We got it done.
09:18Well, you know, Michael sure stepped up to the plate and saved the day.
09:22He got that culvert in.
09:23He got all the water leaving us.
09:25He executed it perfectly.
09:28We just gotta keep the gold coming in.
09:52The gold prices are up there, so we decided to get with the program right out of the bat.
09:58We were the first ones losing in the Yukon.
10:02The early board cut is done, so now we're gonna expand it.
10:06Ten miles southwest, king of the Klondike, Tony Beetz, has already mined out his first cut,
10:14holding in 632 ounces of his 6,500-ounce target.
10:24Since we had a nice early start, now the Klondike is gonna be to stay ahead of the game.
10:32So we can't let up.
10:36After a hot start on his Indian River claim, Tony's nearly out of pay dirt, and he needs to open
10:43more ground at the early bird cut, fast.
10:49So what I want to do is strip here, a hundred feet wide, all the way to the other end,
10:56so they can take all this gravel, load it up, dump it in the old cut.
11:00So we're gonna get people on the go down here.
11:04Just like Parker, Tony's also relying on a crew of new recruits to get the job done.
11:12We're gonna have another 40 more people this year, so you gotta make do with whatever you can get, and
11:18then hope it's okay.
11:21Well, this is my first year here. Who wouldn't want to come to the Yukon and work?
11:25I love it here. I love the chaos.
11:29We've got a lot of equipment packed in here, weaving together.
11:34Rock truck drivers Tyler Swan and Sam Moore are part of an all-new crew tasked with getting the early
11:42bird extension down to pay in just one week.
11:46I'm pretty new to gold mining. I've only been at this for a little over a month now, and there's
11:53very rarely a dull moment.
11:55Tony's approach? Throw the newbies in at the deep end and hope they can swim.
12:01Get the f*** out of the way and get that other rock truck dad out of the way so this
12:05one get out of the way.
12:08F***ing f***ing.
12:08Make some room. I mean, you got two f***ing trucks if they can't find their own f***ing way.
12:14This f***ing rock truck are back in there.
12:17Andrew, make sure he doesn't drive over the pipeline, that f***ing.
12:23See, you know what I mean? The bucket is over there, the truck is away the f*** over there.
12:27You see where the bucket is, young fella? Look at me.
12:32F*** me. How come you never answer your f***ing radio?
12:36I've got all my charges for him, sir.
12:39Don't f*** her, okay? Get him a radio.
12:41Crazy. This f***ing crazy. I want you underneath the bucket.
12:46Hey, yo.
12:50It was pretty sparse on training here.
12:54And then, off into the deep end, it can be a little bit stressful.
13:01Back it up a bit, back it up a bit.
13:09Pretty tight spot we're working in. We've got a bit of a bend to turn around here.
13:15Now we're all in this together.
13:18And you have about eyes on everything.
13:25Sam has just toppled one of Tony's essential $300,000 rock trucks.
13:33Jacob, I'm gonna need some help.
13:35Jacob, do you copy? Jacob?
13:50F***. F***.
14:11Okay.
14:11Jake, do you copy Jacob?
14:14Okay, go ahead.
14:15My truck sort a tipped over here. My box gave way under the bank.
14:21Ah, we're going to need some help.
14:33At Indian River, Tony's racing to extend his cut down to pay
14:39before wash plant sluice-a-lot's pay pile runs out.
14:43But rookie driver Sam has flipped his rock truck,
14:47bringing the operation to a halt.
14:54The game plans go up, use the 480 if it'll pull it and hook on to the high point of
15:00the box
15:00and pull it back over on the right side up.
15:03Alright, let's go flip this truck over.
15:10Rushing to the rescue is heavy equipment operator Jacob Moore.
15:19Hopefully it comes over nicely.
15:22The car's not good.
15:27Whoa.
15:30Nice and easy.
15:38Drive ahead very slowly.
15:49Alright, everything went smooth and properly done.
15:53We're back on the road now, so hopefully we didn't lose too much time.
15:57Yeah, I'm feeling a little bit stressed about what Tony will think.
16:04Copy, copy, copy.
16:06Do you solve a favor and do that one more time and then you're out of here.
16:09You know, there's a couple down there, you do it once, you're in, you do it twice, you're out.
16:14So, pay attention with you please.
16:17Copy that.
16:38I'm definitely backed into corner at this point.
16:40I've got all this ground that I just finished paying off and no water license.
16:43be able to mine it and it's just like it's there taunting me.
16:46Really this has left me with no other choices but to move on.
16:51100 miles east of Tony, Rick Ness hasn't mined a single ounce of gold.
16:58Forced to abandon a pile of pay and the richest ground he's ever mined at his Duncan Creek claim,
17:05Rick's committed his entire operation to gamble on new land.
17:11At the end of the day, I had to make a deal with Troy in Lightning Creek.
17:14You know, I have to do something before we lose out on that even.
17:17And there's people snooping around for ground with licenses on it everywhere and I can't afford to wait any longer.
17:24Last week, I'm here to make a deal.
17:26Rick met with landowner Troy Taylor.
17:2915% royalty payment, we're going to do a 100-ounce payment and we can get started on there right
17:34away.
17:34Rick made a handshake deal to lease Lightning Creek and moved his entire mining operation eight miles northwest.
17:43Well, we're at Lightning Creek.
17:46We're going to go and hit this as hard as we can.
17:51This year, you know, gold price is once again record high so we got about 100 ounces a week to
17:55get by the end of the year if we're going to get to 1,800 ounces so we really got
17:59to get a move on.
18:02We've broken ground down at Lightning Creek, plenty of challenges ahead of us, this is new ground, we got to
18:07learn, time to get on some gold.
18:12Rick's opened the diamond cut and is depending on his crew to locate the pockets of gold rich pay dirt
18:18in this notoriously unpredictable area.
18:38The diamond cuts definitely go a good speed, but at the start of any cut, it takes some time to
18:43get prepped up.
18:45This ain't bad, but it may seem frivolous that we're just moving dirt from point A to point B, but
18:50this is what we need to do.
18:52Efficiency is key, not going to lie, this is a good day.
18:56I just want to make sure I'm keeping up with the pace because at the end of the season, I
19:01want a big gold bonus, so, you know, whatever it takes to get down to pay and start moving it
19:05is what I'll do.
19:14What the ?
19:18Hey, Ricky, can you hear me?
19:20What's up, mate?
19:21I think we were down two page.
19:30Guy, get over here.
19:36Look at that.
19:38You ever seen pay dirt?
19:40Pay dirt?
19:41That's what it is right there.
19:42Boulders and gravels.
19:44Pay dirt is gravelly and rocky, gold-bearing material that lies beneath the waste topsoil known as overburden.
19:54That's the with the gold in it.
19:56Right.
19:57Yeah.
19:57Let's look at it.
19:58That looks good.
19:59That whole floor down there, that's the pay dirt we're looking for.
20:01That came quick when we don't have to go down 150 feet, eh?
20:04Just eating this area right here is bigger than pick is found.
20:07I know.
20:08I know.
20:08That's exciting.
20:10And that should make for quick stripping.
20:12And then we've got below that, according to Troy, anywhere is 12 to 15 feet of pay.
20:17Yeah.
20:17So, put the overburden where it wants to go and we'll have a good amount of pay dirt exposed here
20:21in no time.
20:22Let's get back on the gold.
20:23Let's do it.
20:24Let's do it.
20:25We're already down to pay.
20:26You know, I'm not used to that.
20:27We're used to going 100 some feet through overburden just to get to it.
20:30And it's nice that it's so shallow here.
20:32Bailey's doing a great job.
20:33Trucks are moving dirt.
20:34Sun's out.
20:35Good day.
20:38With the team on the pay layer, Rick tasks the crew with stripping the entire diamond cut.
20:45Compared to like Rick's claims, it's a huge difference because we're moving about 160 feet worth of overburden.
20:51And then over here, it's, you know, five feet.
20:55It's my first time seeing pay.
20:57Once we get that through the sluice box and through the plant, it'll be good to see the actual gold.
21:03While the team works, Rick takes a moment to make his handshake deal with Troy official and sign the lease.
21:15Ridiculous.
21:17Kind of reading through it.
21:18I don't, I just don't like some of the stuff I'm seeing.
21:22Oh, yeah.
21:23Hey, Z, you got a copy?
21:25Yeah, go ahead, please.
21:28Well, I'll just come over here and I'll show you something.
21:32Alright.
21:40What's up, buddy?
21:41You're going to make me read?
21:42No, I've got an updated agreement with Troy.
21:45He's given himself an awful lot of power, I think.
21:47Well, how it works is that he, I have to submit my mining plan to him and then he decides
21:52how it works, right?
21:53And it says that he shall have access to the equipment and or personnel at his discretion.
21:57Well, that means, to me, that means, yeah, on a Tuesday, he'd come and shut down the sluice box.
22:01I think it's a bit of an overreach.
22:04I just, don't you?
22:05I always assumed when you lease the ground that you get to do with what you want.
22:09Like, how your mining plan is.
22:11What?
22:11And this sounds like, this sounds like you sign a lease and then he has all the power.
22:15I don't know what the angle is there.
22:16I don't know if there is an angle.
22:18At this point, I'm just, I'm waiting to stumble around a corner and find him like this.
22:21Like, whoa, I pulled a, you know what I mean?
22:23Like, stupid like that gets your wheels turning, right?
22:26Let's just read over the contract a little bit more.
22:30We're down here.
22:31We'll keep plugging away.
22:32Yeah, yeah.
22:33No, like I said, I appreciate it.
22:34Screw my head on straight.
22:35Make sure that this deal is in our favor and keep on trucking.
22:39Keeps everyone here.
22:40Thanks, buddy.
22:40All right.
22:41We'll talk to you.
22:41See you at dinner.
22:42Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:50What the is this?
22:52If I fail to make a payment, a minimum of $20,000 every month, it may terminate this agreement
22:59within three business days.
23:01Even when I'm not producing gold now, I'm on the hook for 20 grand a month.
23:05The more I look at this, the more I'm saying, there's not a chance in hell I'm signing this.
23:09I don't know why he's putting all this extra in here.
23:12It's just not, it's not sitting right with me.
23:14I've worked with Troy for a while and I trust the guy, but it's fishy that I just paid him
23:17off
23:18and now we're going back and suddenly he's got more ground for us and we're not paying him again.
23:24You know, I'm kind of thinking he might be using my lack of options to turn things in his favor.
23:31Rick has already spent over $40,000 in fuel and wages mining Lightning Creek.
23:39But it could be all for nothing.
23:42I'm trying to stay calm, but I'm getting pretty riled up about it.
23:45I'm already down there working.
23:47I've got money into this.
23:48I've got guys down there.
23:50I've got equipment down there.
23:52And I'm not stopping, but I'm not signing this.
23:54So he's going to have to change his way of thinking because that's .
24:14Right now we have two wash plants running.
24:16I have a little bit of time to do a lap of going into the bridge cut, checking on Bob,
24:22making sure everyone's doing all right.
24:24At Dominion, Tyson Lee is maxing out Sleucifer on the Golden Mile.
24:30And in the bridge cut, he has new operator Mike digging out pay dirt.
24:38I want to prove to this crew that I'm capable and I can do the job with whatever they throw
24:43at me.
24:43I definitely have the taste of that gold fever.
24:47While greenhorn Amy, in charge of running wash plant Bob, feeds 250 yards of pay an hour.
24:56I am making sure that I am keeping a constant flow of pay dirt going up the conveyors and also
25:05making sure they're not getting clogged up or many other things that I'm sure are going to do.
25:24We're going to shut off the generator.
25:42Oh, this doesn't look good. What happened?
25:44It's all clogged up at the top.
25:46I just saw rocks shooting from the side.
25:50There's a rock jammed in somewhere, like up against our chain drive that caused it to not want to spin.
25:56But first things first, get all the dirt off the belts.
25:59Tyson suspects wash plant Bob has rocks lodged in its hopper feeder's internal conveyor chains, stopping the mechanism from moving
26:08pay dirt toward the shaker deck, leading to it piling up.
26:13The solution? Dig out the hopper feeder, removing all rocks lodged in the chain conveyor.
26:19Then, clear any rocks from the super stacker's belt rollers and start the plant up again.
26:31Yeah, we just want to...
26:32Clear it out?
26:33Yeah.
26:34Because if we fired the super stacker up, they'd be flying around like popcorn.
26:38Okay.
26:38Go get sucked down into the tail drum and slice the belt.
26:41Okay.
26:43You did a great job though, Amy.
26:44Thanks.
26:57What happened?
27:00This chain bind up on something?
27:02Like a rock got stuck in the chain drive.
27:04Okay.
27:05Did we anything up?
27:06I don't know.
27:07We're just trying to shovel it out to make sure that the belt's all good.
27:11You can see there's a lot of big rocks on the conveyor belt itself.
27:17Give me that shovel.
27:19Watch out.
27:20Okay.
27:31Look at the bottom of that belt.
27:34You know it's serious when Parker shows up and jumps into action.
27:39Tail drum's packed full of .
27:42Oh, let's just get the big ones out of there.
27:48Let's climb down once Parker's done doing Parker things.
27:53I think we're good to go.
27:55Nice work.
27:56I'm climbing down.
27:58You're still up there.
27:59Generator's getting fired up.
28:11Yeah, it looks good.
28:15You want some dirt?
28:16Hey, Parker.
28:18You want some dirt?
28:19Yeah.
28:21I'm so out of shape.
28:23Fire it up.
28:27We're ready to sluice.
28:41I'm so happy that I was able to spot it right away and shut it down because there were so
28:49many rocks that were jammed up in the belt.
28:56How's Amy doing?
28:57She's out with that belt.
28:58Yeah, definitely.
28:59She did it exactly how we showed her.
29:01Yeah.
29:02All right.
29:02See you on the flip side.
29:03See ya.
29:04Amy's doing wonderful.
29:06Couldn't have done anything better really.
29:07The bar is set high.
29:24With the gold price as is, it doesn't take long to make a small fortune, so to speak.
29:29So, let's make hay when the sun shines, I used to say.
29:33At the early bird extension, Tony is battling to open his new ground before his only running wash plant, sluice
29:41-a-lot, runs out of pay.
29:43We lost a bit of stripping time.
29:45We have to get the early bird extension cut ready.
29:48Just stay ahead, stay ahead, stay ahead.
29:52But he's dealing with a batch of rookies who are struggling.
29:59What they said, of all the trucks that are driving around there and everything, none of them still have a
30:04clue as to what the f*** has happened.
30:06I think some have it, some will never f***ing get it.
30:08So, I was gonna snoop around for a second.
30:19I'm back here today, and I am really glad Tony didn't fire me.
30:24Tony has his eye on Greenhorn Sam, who flipped his rock truck earlier in the week.
30:31I'm still on pretty thin ice.
30:34I feel like anything could get you fired if you're not careful.
30:38With the clock ticking, Tony has brought in experienced truck driver, Mason McIntyre, to help out.
30:45The conditions down here are pretty sloppy right now.
30:50It's causing, like, a lot of big ruts, which is hard to drive in sometimes for some people.
30:56You gotta adjust to the conditions.
30:59And some people catch on really quick and are used to it, and some people just don't catch on at
31:04all.
31:05And that's how mistakes happen.
31:07That could be quite dangerous, honestly, if you can't run something like this, which is not simple, but a lot
31:14more simple than another piece of equipment.
31:18Oh, somebody dumped her.
31:23You people .
31:26It's gonna be a mess.
31:29I'll be right the over there and have a look at it, okay? Don't move.
31:46You people .
31:48It's gonna be a mess.
31:51I'll be right the over there and have a look at it, okay? Don't move.
31:55At Tony Beat's early bird cut, another $300,000 rock truck has flipped.
32:04The one-two system seems to work pretty good.
32:06If you up something twice, I'll just fire the .
32:10And I'll be the one that's happy.
32:17Did the idiot still buy the truck or was it?
32:20Yeah.
32:20Okay.
32:22What the was it?
32:34You're out of , pal.
32:36What happened, Mason?
32:38Got a little soft.
32:39A little soft down there, or what?
32:41Yeah, a little bit.
32:43Experienced driver Mason McIntyre has flipped his first truck.
32:47Okay, I'll scoop it out.
32:48You can roll in the cap.
32:49Let's get the thing out of there, okay?
32:51Okay.
32:54All we gotta do is take a little bit of dirt out.
32:57Tony uses the 480 excavator to empty the rock truck's box of dirt and push it upright.
33:04Hopefully they'll learn something, and then the next time we know it's bottom.
33:08Part of me is happy to see that it happens to other people besides me, but, I mean, I feel
33:14for the guy.
33:15It's pretty unpleasant when the box slips over on your rock truck.
33:24There you go.
33:25Hey, Mason, drive ahead of it.
33:31There you go.
33:32See you later, man.
33:33Thank you, Tony.
33:38That's my first truck I tipped over.
33:40It was a little scary.
33:42Tony was pretty relaxed.
33:43I think I had the luck, because I'm here in my second season.
33:48Tony's crew are back in the race to get down to pay before Slusalat runs out.
33:55If you want to do X amount ounces a year, you need X amount of people.
33:59So you'd better put up with some more , I suppose.
34:03But sometimes it's not that easy, especially when it costs money.
34:06I mean, they turn trucks over.
34:07But sometimes you wonder what the heck you're doing.
34:26I asked Troy to come down and meet me here.
34:28I'm basically going to tell him that his contract is bull .
34:30I mean, I don't know what he wants me to do with this.
34:32I'm not budging off that ground, and I'm not signing this.
34:34So we need to come to some kind of compromise.
34:42After moving his crew to a new claim on Lightning Creek, Rick Ness has called a meeting with landlord Troy
34:50Taylor to negotiate the terms of the lease.
34:53Hey, Troy.
34:53Hey, Rick.
34:54How you doing?
34:55Good.
34:55Good to see you.
34:59We've got to put some signatures on paper and make it legal.
35:05There's no way.
35:06I have gotten over the contract and a lot of things that I don't like.
35:12It says that you have the right to change the mining plan at any time.
35:14You can pull my equipment and my personnel when you see fit.
35:19There's an awful lot of power going into your hands here.
35:21I mean, I would like to think that our last contract went pretty smooth.
35:25I think it's coming down to a trust thing.
35:27And, you know, for me right here in this contract, it looks like you don't trust me at all.
35:32And so I'm kind of wondering why I trust this, you know?
35:35Yeah, I get that.
35:38It's nothing personal.
35:40It's just since the last agreement, things have changed so much.
35:44With the water licenses these days, if there's any blemish, if you are doing anything wrong,
35:52maybe you weren't here on a day that something's going sideways, it will be reflected on me.
35:59It could result in getting my water license revoked.
36:03I want to keep mining, so I have to have some teeth in this agreement.
36:16I can kind of see where you're coming from, Troy, but I don't believe that this level of supervision is
36:21necessary.
36:22I mean, I don't want to feel like I'm looking over my shoulder all the time.
36:25And that's why I brought this, you know, off the bat.
36:29That's the 100 ounces that I owe you as the minimum royalty on this deal.
36:33And I'd be willing to give that to you up front right now today and get rid of this.
36:52Oh, boy. I, from my perspective, if I don't have some control in the agreement, that's all I've got.
36:59I can't, I can't back up on that. I just can't.
37:04I understand it's got to be a tough one to, a tough pill to swallow.
37:09Um...
37:17What if I buy it?
37:22That's a big one for me.
37:28I would need another, another 200 ounces on top of this.
37:32So 300 ounces total?
37:34Yes.
37:43It's just, it's just too much. You know, I get that ground is at a premium with a water license
37:48right now,
37:48but it's a lot of money on the line and I won't be squeezed.
37:51It's just not going to happen.
37:55How about I get you another 100 ounces?
37:58That's 200 ounces total. And then we, then we call that good.
38:08I'm still responsible for the water license until I get paid. As you know, I'm, I'm still on the hook.
38:15How about by the end of the month and then we part ways. This is gone. Your name's off it.
38:22I take over the ground.
38:23In a month?
38:24In a month. Your liability's gone. You're paid.
38:30Rick, that's a lot of gold to produce in a month. You got a lot of stuff to do still.
38:34If that's what it's going to take to mine this ground mine way, that's, that's what we're going to do.
38:39I'll make it happen.
38:42Well, I like your determination. Let's do it.
38:46All good? Yeah.
38:47All right.
38:49All right.
38:50Deal done.
38:51Well, we don't need this anymore.
38:54Rick Ness has just purchased another 1,600 acres of land for $700,000 in gold.
39:03I'm not sure what I just did.
39:05I think I came out on top.
39:06Gold prices are higher than ever, but right now it seems that a ground with a water license on it
39:11is even harder to find.
39:12He owns it. It's all his.
39:15So, hope it's good ground and I wish him the best.
39:18The guys are probably going to question this.
39:20This ground is, we haven't even solution yet, but we did test it.
39:23We know there's gold.
39:23So, I need to get this ground.
39:24I need to just get us going.
39:26This was the only way I saw how to do it.
39:39We've hired a lot of people this year.
39:41I'm Ethan.
39:42I'm Raya.
39:43I'm Jordan.
39:44They've come with a range of skills.
39:46I've milked cows my whole life.
39:48Demolition side of things.
39:49I was a line cook before this.
39:51The revolving door of new people is not going to stop this year.
39:55New recruits have come from far and wide.
39:58I went for a motorcycle ride 3,500 kilometers from home to find Parker.
40:03Hello.
40:04Hey, Parker.
40:05You're Steve, right?
40:05Yes, yes.
40:06Good to meet you.
40:07I heard that you just showed up on a motorcycle.
40:09Yeah, it's sitting at your office.
40:10I saw it there.
40:11And I was like, **** that.
40:12Today is not the day for tourists.
40:14And then Nona found me and was like, oh, he's in the loader.
40:18No, I've been running equipment for 30 years and I've always dreamed of coming up here doing this.
40:22Do you have like work clothes and stuff?
40:25This is it.
40:26It's like literally in his riding clothes.
40:28Yeah.
40:29Glad to have you on board.
40:30Can you take a picture?
40:31Here you go, Steve.
40:41They'll be **** around at the early board extension cut for a while.
40:44So they're just going to check, see if they're down to pay.
40:51At the early bird extension, Tony is panning to see if his crew has hit pay.
41:02Usually we look for gold in the pan.
41:04You know, we don't wash rocks for the fun of it.
41:10Huh?
41:11There is no way.
41:13Hey, Jacob.
41:15Do you copy?
41:15Jacob, do you copy?
41:20Okay, bring them guys in and they're doing some panning in the cut.
41:42Good morning, gentlemen.
41:44Good morning.
41:44Good morning.
41:45Good morning.
41:46In case you're wondering, we're looking for gold.
41:51Look at that.
41:52That's pay dirt to me.
41:54You know, you're looking at Sam?
41:55Not exactly.
41:56No, well, that don't surprise me.
41:58Okay, I see that.
41:58Okay, well, there you go.
42:00Yeah, that's what it's all about, Sam.
42:03That actually looks very nice.
42:05There's lots of colors in there.
42:07It looks good.
42:09It's a circle up at the top.
42:11Yeah.
42:12I'd say this cut is ready to be going in the sluice box, eh?
42:15Oh, for sure.
42:16To give you guys an idea as to what we're after.
42:19Yeah.
42:20Let's go and get some more.
42:21Yes, sir.
42:22You bet.
42:23Yeah, seeing that pan of gold, put some gold in it was nice.
42:27I've had a few mistakes coming in here, but, you know, seeing the gold makes it worth it.
42:33We have a lot of people that never even been in an airplane.
42:36They come up here, never mind the piece of equipment.
42:38But somehow you're going to have to make it work.
42:41And as long as you get some gold in your pocket, then on the end of the day, it's all
42:45worth it.
42:52Hello, family.
42:54Hey, guys.
42:54How are you?
42:56Good.
42:56How are you?
42:57How are you?
42:59Get that pail off the table.
43:01Holy crap.
43:03Bring it over here, Michael.
43:07After a turbulent week at Indian River, Tony is ready to weigh the gold from the early bird cut.
43:14How's your new crew doing?
43:16Well, Greenhorns.
43:17You're not going to come with troubles.
43:19We tipped the other truck box here or there.
43:21Jacob had to rescue one the other day.
43:23I mean, you got the same thing on the hill, right?
43:25You get new people, you got the same old problem.
43:27Most minor attorneys, so.
43:29Yeah.
43:30Yeah.
43:30Well, that's lucky because then you don't have half that crap.
43:33Do you want to see the fruits of your labors?
43:36Last week, the early bird cut delivered 214 ounces.
43:45You ready, Mike?
43:47Yeah.
43:4810, 20, 30, 60, 70, 80, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 142.14.
44:05Worth nearly half a million dollars, bringing Tony's total to 774 ounces.
44:14But it's a drop in production.
44:16If Tony is going to hit his 6,500-ounce goal, his extension of the early bird cut will have
44:24to deliver a big improvement.
44:27So, we're still a little ways off from our goal.
44:30Still pretty early.
44:31We'll get there.
44:33That I think everybody should go back to work.
44:35Yeah.
44:35Sounds good.
44:36Why don't you guys go make us some more money?
44:38Okay, take your with you, Mike.
44:40Bye.
44:41Yeah, bye.
44:41Don't go away mad, guys.
44:43Love you.
44:44Yeah, up.
44:59Where's Chris?
45:01He didn't hear us.
45:03Chris.
45:04Oh, his new hearing aids really don't work.
45:08Sorry, I'm late.
45:09No, you're fine.
45:11Anything crazy happen down on your end?
45:13It's just lots of dirt.
45:15Yeah.
45:15Just trying to stack everything up.
45:17Yeah, we're really limited on space.
45:19It's very tight up there.
45:20Mitch and Brennan have been stripping ground at Sulphur Creek while at
45:26Dominion, Tyson's kept two wash plants sluicing with new crew.
45:31You got a new plant operator, Amy?
45:34Yeah.
45:34How's she doing?
45:35She's doing really good, yeah.
45:36Is she?
45:37Going from being a school teacher to a loader operator, so that's definitely the change of
45:41pace for her.
45:42But yeah, she's doing really good.
45:44Is it though?
45:46If she was like a kindergarten to fifth grade, it's probably not that much different.
45:52I have to talk really slow to these guys so they understand me.
45:56Don't eat the crayons.
45:59Two plants running though all week?
46:01Yeah.
46:02Two plants.
46:03You got two plants, man.
46:04You're responsible for both of them.
46:07Here we go, slucifer.
46:09Wash plant slucifer's been running in the Golden Mile all week.
46:13And Parker's hoping to see an uptick from last week's 112 ounces.
46:18Let's see how the Golden Mile did.
46:2210, 30, 40, 70, 80, 100 ounces.
46:31There's 120, 130, 150, 152 even.
46:37Worth over $530,000.
46:41A 35% increase from last week.
46:44Perfect.
46:45That's a lot better.
46:46A lot better.
46:47Picked up a few ounces over last week.
46:49Definitely.
46:50Working some kinks out.
46:52Yeah.
46:52Next up, Bob at the Bridge Cut, which is averaging 143 ounces a week.
46:59We got 30, 50, 80, 100, 120, 140, 150, 156.2.
47:10Worth almost $550,000.
47:14Wow.
47:15That was close, eh?
47:16Yeah.
47:17Those two plants are...
47:18Four ounces off each other?
47:20Yeah, wow.
47:20Just a couple ounces off of each other.
47:22That's weird.
47:23Yeah, that's crazy.
47:24This week, we got 308.2 ounces, which give us a season total of 707.9.
47:33Tyson has nearly doubled their season total.
47:36You know, last year at this time, we were talking about 10,000 ounces, and we were all thinking
47:40it was pretty doable.
47:42Are we thinking we're going to do it this year?
47:45You're too early to ask that question.
47:48You guys need to get on the board now?
47:50Yeah.
47:51Oh, dear.
47:52Hopefully next week, there'll be three pans lined up there.
47:54There will be.
47:56Right.
47:59Sounds like we don't got a choice.
48:01No.
48:02All right.
48:03Have a good one.
48:03Thanks, guys.
48:04Thanks, Chris.
