00:01We saw the Earth destroyed, and in a heartbeat, everything and everyone we knew was gone.
00:13There were five of us, the crew of the Space Shuttle Odyssey, and we were the only survivors.
00:24A mysterious being, who called himself the Seeker, rescued us, and sent us back in time.
00:38And now we have five years for the moment. Five years to discover who or what destroyed the Earth.
00:45Five years to stop it from happening.
00:49Again.
01:28When once you have tasted flight, you will always walk the Earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you
01:37have been, and there you will always be.
01:49I'll never forget the first day I met Ed Scribbins. We were both on that little commuter coming down from
01:53Austin to Houston, and he looked like he'd eaten too many huevos rancheros, and I could tell by that day's
01:59look in his eyes and that buzz cut and that geeky little pocket protector that he was on his way
02:04to his first day at NASA.
02:06Yeah, we flew by guts back then. We didn't have accountants and mission control, we had visionaries.
02:16The first thing Ed said to me, he said, Chuck, I think that-
02:20Excuse me, Commander. I'm a great admirer of Ed Scribbins too. We have a full agenda here today. Can we
02:26stay on point?
02:27The point is, Miss Hodge, the legacy of NASA, and the legacy of NASA and the opinion of this force
02:31is manned space flight.
02:34I disagree. That's NASA's past, and we're here to try and save the future.
02:38The cost overruns on the ISS alone are in the billions. Where's that money going?
02:43To crew safety.
02:46Automated laboratories in space are cheaper, they're faster, and if God forbid we screw up, nobody dies.
02:52Miss Hodge, people are buying their way into space right now, and pretty soon there's gonna be passengers in space.
02:56And if, God forbid, something goes wrong, those passengers will want a flesh and blood pilot to be accountable, and
03:01not some $29 chip.
03:03Passengers are not NASA's mandate.
03:05Well, maybe they should be. Maybe if we hauled a few more civilians up in space, we'd engender a little
03:10more support for this program down here.
03:12Science, exploration, those are our mandates.
03:15Ladies and gentlemen, we're failing.
03:16We're failing ourselves, we're failing the American people, and yes, yes.
03:21We're failing the memory of NASA's heroes.
03:25Okay, we'll resume after a 15-minute break.
03:34The memory of NASA's heroes?
03:37No, that was just goddamn inspirational.
03:39You trot out dead legends, you leave me no choice.
03:42Hodge, if you don't like the space program, why don't you just find yourself another meal ticket?
03:47Why try to blow it up?
03:50And after your last mission, it's almost funny.
04:26What was that for?
04:28You being such a good boyfriend?
04:29I don't know.
04:30I don't know.
04:31I don't know.
04:35Hey.
04:37Hey, man.
04:38It's pretty blues.
04:39You guys wanna go hang?
04:40We could, uh, get to Cyber Cafe.
04:43Back into the school mainframe.
04:45Don't you think it's time you, uh, cut the umbilical cord, man?
04:53Don't leave me hanging, bitch.
05:02Deckard's here.
05:03Where?
05:08And, uh, why do we suddenly care about Deckard?
05:11He's got this amazing new drug.
05:12He calls it Rapture.
05:14You wanna get high with Justin Deckard.
05:16Kid voter most likely to go Columbine.
05:18When did you get so judgmental?
05:20What, are you, like, 30 years old?
05:22Not yet.
05:25Well, hi, boys.
05:27Hey, man.
05:29Hey.
05:33Y'all coming?
05:34No.
05:35Yes.
05:36Don't do that.
05:36What is your problem?
05:38You gonna go off with them and leave me here?
05:39I'll be back.
05:41No, I'm not waiting for that.
05:43Suit yourself.
05:51Okay today, huh?
05:53What's your brother doing hanging out with that maniac?
05:56You don't wanna know.
05:58Get outta here.
05:59This place sucks, man!
06:00Woo!
06:01Woo-hoo!
06:02Hey!
06:05Oh, yeah.
06:41Hurry, Mommy. I have to see if my clay costume fits.
06:44Mommy's hurrying, honey. I'm good at a lot of things, but sewing is definitely not one of them.
06:51Let me see.
06:54Oh, God.
06:58Oh, shit.
07:00Mommy.
07:00Oh, shoot, shoot, shoot. The head's too small. I'll fix it.
07:06How do I look?
07:07Like the cutest leaf on the tree.
07:09I'm not on a tree. I'm dead.
07:16I'm one of the dead ones.
07:28My baby.
07:45Um...
07:46Come on. Let's take this off, sugar.
07:49You go put your jammies on, okay?
07:56Now, tell me, could he be any happier?
07:58I don't think so.
08:01I tell you, it's good to have things back to normal.
08:06Come on, big guy. Let's go.
08:12Ladies and gentlemen, in the spirit of new beginnings,
08:15I'd like to raise a glass or a plastic cup, as it were,
08:19through the commencement of the eighth decade of Leighton Scott,
08:23an extraordinary astronaut who had the privilege of walking on the moon,
08:26a memorable teacher, my personal flying instructor,
08:29a dear, dear friend, and an absolutely atrocious golfer.
08:33Happy birthday.
08:42Golfer.
08:44Take a stroll.
08:45How anyone want cake?
08:48I heard about the hearings.
08:49Yeah, Leighton, I think I'll be playing a lot more golf with you.
08:52How do you think I'll take the early retirement?
08:55Like a woman with a new wrinkle.
08:57This administration seems manifestly committed to abort manned space flight.
09:01Chuck, it's not just this administration.
09:03We've been fighting this same battle from the inside for 20 years.
09:08Back up here, Leighton. What are we talking about?
09:10Some plot for the planned obsolescence of pilots?
09:14Losing Ed Scrivens was a terrible setback, but now that he's out of their way,
09:19they're making their move.
09:20They're making their... Who's they? Who are we talking about?
09:23The cadre. At least that's what we call them.
09:26I don't know if it's their word or our word, but over the years, it's different faces,
09:30but it's the same agenda. Watch out for Cynthia Hodge.
09:36You're preaching to the choir here, brother.
09:38There's no man in space. There's nobody up there to see what you're hanging in that bright sky.
09:44Look at you two down here, huddling and telling secrets.
09:48Don't say anything to Chuck. He's just humoring an old man.
09:52Well, all these nice people came here to see you,
09:54and I'll be damned if I send them home without a very nice thank you from the birthday boy.
09:58All right. Leighton, Macduff.
10:00See you later, birthday boy.
10:02Look me up later. I want to continue this.
10:10Cadre.
10:13You have about as much interest in talking about your feelings as a man after an orgasm.
10:17But that doesn't mean you have to blow off your psychiatric review.
10:19What is this? You got pate, hearts of palms, olive, tempanade.
10:25Tempanade.
10:25Whatever.
10:26Don't you have any real food?
10:28This is real food. God, no wonder we didn't work out.
10:32You're more guy than I am.
10:34Wait, wait. This is a very expensive knife, darling.
10:37It's worth one of my fingers.
10:39You look beautiful, by the way.
10:41Stop it.
10:42You know, this is a perfect example of your classic avoidance
10:46to the subject.
10:47Forget about the tummy.
10:49I'm hungry.
10:51Let's talk about Dr. Spitzer.
10:53Your entire career is hanging the balance, after all.
10:56And what are you gonna tell him about your near-death EVA?
11:00I gave up an awesome barrel racing horse when I was 15, because it was a bribe to go see
11:06a shrink,
11:07after Daddy's umpteenth affair hit the fan.
11:10Anyway, I refused to go and talk to someone about my personal feelings who gets paid by the hour.
11:15That's a mistake, darling. First you take the bribe, and then you fake it.
11:20Can I infer you've done this before?
11:22No, tons. Mother had me in therapy practically from parturition.
11:25You and your big-ass vocabulary. Can't you just speak English?
11:28Well, you mean American. All right, um, from birth, y'all.
11:31Oh, yeah, because I sound like that.
11:33Well, we invented the language, darling.
11:35My shrink coping mechanisms became more and more sophisticated as a child.
11:39First you find something easy to diagnose, a short-term treatment, and a good cure rate.
11:44Here we go. Post-traumatic stress disorder, that should do nicely.
11:48You sure about this?
11:49Oh, I know, Spitzer. He evaluated me, or rather will evaluate me,
11:54when I get picked as a civilian shuttle passenger.
11:57Trust me, he's a total idiot.
11:59I knew you sent him to therapy himself.
12:01He'll swallow it hook, line, and sinker.
12:04That's American.
12:35Oh, my God.
12:37Oh, my God.
12:43Oh, my God.
12:45Oh, my God.
12:45Oh, my God.
12:45Like what...
12:46Oh, my God.
12:47Oh, my God.
12:48No, I am looking around the roof of the needle and she is on a run.
12:52One-way functions, class.
12:56Mr. Deckard, what are they?
12:59They, uh, go one way.
13:01Like heterosexual functions.
13:05Ah, so pleased you could join us, Mr. Taggart.
13:08Just in time to tell our libidinous friend, Mr. Deckard,
13:12what one-way functions are.
13:14Uh, mathematical equations.
13:16Easy to solve in one direction, difficult to reverse.
13:18Like, well, like your example, they're factoring crime numbers.
13:21Good.
13:22Take out your calculators.
13:24See what you can make of this.
13:27Mr. Wittig, uh, X equals 17 and Y is...
13:332011.
13:35It's supposed to be hard.
13:37Well, you looked at the answer, Kate.
13:39Come on, give us a challenge, Mr. Wittig.
13:42I could make your head spin, Mr. Deckard.
13:44That wouldn't make you look for it.
13:46Oh, you do?
13:48You doubt that?
13:50Suppose X squared is congruent to Q modulo P,
13:54where P and Q are both odd prime.
13:58Never pays to be arrogant, Mr. Deckard.
14:03Aren't you forgetting that Q is the quadratic residue of P?
14:06Let's skip the steps and cut to 64 is congruent to 13 mod 17.
14:15So that 64 minus 13 equals 17 X N,
14:21where N equals 3,
14:23and your two odd primes are Q equals 13,
14:27P equals 17,
14:30and for X, I give you 8.
14:58Oh, shit.
15:01Oh, shit.
15:01Oh, shit.
15:02Oh, shit.
15:04Uh, Troy, I have to cancel lunch.
15:07I'm sorry.
15:09Hey, I, uh, wanted to discuss the Ramsey Howe murder trial.
15:13Uh, I got a lot of things I have to take care of.
15:15Uh, something's eating you.
15:16I know that look.
15:17I've seen enough of my fiancée.
15:19I am not your fiancée.
15:21All right, well,
15:22well, my anchor-out source is evaporating.
15:26Besides, we're pals now, right?
15:28Pals?
15:30Pals.
15:31Pals.
15:33Someone I love very dearly might possibly have cancer,
15:38and I'm just...
15:39I'm just doing...
15:41All right.
15:43Enough said.
15:52You're bullshitting me.
15:53I want to know everything about that drug
15:55and your brother's connection to Deckard now.
15:56Okay.
15:57Hey, I'm not sure if this means anything.
15:59Probably not gonna like it.
16:00Oh, come on.
16:00Kelsey, Jesus Christ, spit it out.
16:02Remember that laptop we act into for you?
16:04Yes.
16:05Hold on, it's made a copy.
16:06Oh, shit.
16:08Somehow I ended up lending it to Deckard.
16:09Next thing I know,
16:10they're hanging out 24-7 doing rapture.
16:12All right, listen to me.
16:13This is really important.
16:15Do you know how we got the drug?
16:17No.
16:18But it could have been through a link on that laptop, right?
16:20Yeah, sure.
16:25Hey, we need to talk.
16:26The bell's about to ring.
16:27Holly, I tried you five times this weekend.
16:29Well, I'm a busy girl.
16:30Hey, listen to me.
16:31I dread you taking it.
16:32I think it's dangerous.
16:33You don't know what you're talking about.
16:34It can break down all the walls in your mind.
16:36It can make us close again like we used to be.
16:37No, no, we don't need that.
16:39We don't.
16:39Whatever.
16:44Hey!
16:45Yeah, I'm gonna need a minute.
16:46Over.
16:47Do you see what this is doing to you?
16:49You know, you used to be fun.
16:50No, no.
16:50I'm not gonna just sit back and watch this happen.
16:53I care too much about you.
16:55Tigert!
16:57What the hell are you doing in here?
16:58We, uh, sensed an issue.
17:00Yeah?
17:01What's between me and Holly?
17:02Well, if you're talking to her,
17:03you're talking to all of us.
17:04Yeah.
17:05You don't like it?
17:05Get out of here and leave her alone.
17:08We may have to blow your mind.
17:10Give me a fucking break.
17:13Come on, we're not done.
17:14Yeah.
17:14Yeah.
17:45You're telling me
17:46that two bubblegummers
17:47are now hooked on some sentient narcotic
17:49because you let them surf the web
17:50on the Ron Shondo's laptop?
17:53Hey, I didn't let them.
17:55When they were cracking
17:55the access protection code,
17:57one of them made a copy.
17:58A copy?
17:59How the hell do I get a copy?
18:01The buck stops with you, Bubba.
18:03Yeah, okay, fine.
18:04I'm sorry, okay?
18:05I blew it.
18:06Why everybody makes mistakes?
18:08Mistakes?
18:08Let me bring us back to the ball game
18:10for a second, sports fans.
18:11Like that kook said
18:12in my dad's backyard,
18:14despite our own personal little comedies.
18:16We only got one full-time job here,
18:18and that's to stop everybody
18:20we've ever known or loved
18:21and been blown to micro shit
18:22in front of our eyes.
18:23But I'll tell you this,
18:24in five years from now,
18:25if I'm in that goddamn rocket ship
18:27and I'll watch the earth
18:28blow up all over again,
18:30it ain't gonna be because
18:31some computer got pilfered
18:34by two surf punks
18:35who got earrings
18:37and all the wrong holes.
18:38Hear me?
18:41Right.
18:42So how do we fix it?
18:44I still don't see any evidence
18:45that the sentients
18:46are even involved here.
18:47Even after what happened
18:48with his eyes?
18:49What did happen to his eyes?
18:50Oh, come on,
18:51the mind affects the body tremendously.
18:53Maybe a mind enhanced
18:54by a sentient drug
18:55can affect the body
18:55in a disproportionately enhanced way as well.
18:58Yeah, listen to this.
18:59All the kids that take this drug,
19:00they got really smart.
19:01Fucking Stephen J. Hawking smart.
19:03There we go.
19:04What's that but another form
19:05of artificial intelligence?
19:06Yeah, but there's more.
19:07They've got some kind of
19:08sci-thing going on.
19:10I can almost swear
19:11they're reading each other's minds.
19:12Reading minds?
19:13What, is that some HGUL shit?
19:15I don't know what it is,
19:16but it's certainly abnormal.
19:17Great.
19:17Well, I'll tell you how we fix it.
19:18We find a goddamn drug supply
19:20and we cut it off.
19:22I'm taking care of it.
19:23You're taking care of it?
19:23Like you took care of
19:24Naran Shounder's laptop?
19:25We're doing this together.
19:27What are we going to do together, Dad?
19:28What are you going to do?
19:28March into the school
19:29and shake them down between classes?
19:31You'll never get anywhere near them.
19:32I've got to make them trust me.
19:33Son, if I've got to march
19:34into the goddamn school
19:35and turn them upside down,
19:37that's what I'm going to do.
19:38You screwed the pooch.
19:39One fuck-up's all you get.
19:42I don't need this shit.
19:43Oh, Neil.
19:44Neil.
19:46Come here.
19:47Look at that.
19:48Don't worry.
19:49It's that time of the month.
19:50Look, I need to get a sample
19:51of that drug to get it analyzed.
19:52Can you do this for me?
19:53It's really important.
19:54Yeah, yeah, that's fine.
19:55I hope he blames you.
19:58Almost nobody.
20:00I'll take care of it.
20:01All right.
20:03What is the exact pronunciation
20:05of H-A-U?
20:07Again, please.
20:08How?
20:09How?
20:14Hey.
20:15Hey.
20:17Um, can you just...
20:19Just for a minute?
20:20Thanks a lot.
20:23About yesterday, I'm...
20:24Forget it.
20:25I was wondering,
20:27uh, you said that someone
20:28you care about has cancer.
20:30What kind?
20:33It's called gastrointestinal
20:34stromal tumor.
20:35It's almost always...
20:37Fatal, yeah.
20:38Yeah, I know.
20:39When I was news director at KMH,
20:41we did a weekly cancer story.
20:42I can check my files
20:44and get you in touch
20:46with the man on G-I-S-T.
20:52Don't mention it.
21:00I kept having these flashbacks.
21:03Uh, tree, smashed up car.
21:06My father, I couldn't see,
21:09couldn't think,
21:10and, uh, suddenly I wasn't
21:11on the spacewalk anymore.
21:13Have you ever had a car accident?
21:14When I was 18,
21:16I-I wrecked my T-bird.
21:18It was bad.
21:19Do you see any connection
21:20between the accident
21:21and the spacewalk?
21:23Maybe.
21:27Let's, uh,
21:29let's talk about your father.
21:32How do you feel about his intervention
21:33to reinstate you
21:34into the flight program?
21:35Grateful.
21:36You don't think it was controlling?
21:38No.
21:39That you should have earned
21:39your own way back on the roster?
21:41Not at all.
21:41That he actually took something
21:43away from you
21:43rather than give you help?
21:44Look, I'm good with it, okay?
21:46So, uh,
21:48can we just talk about
21:49the spacewalk?
21:50Okay.
21:53Immediately after the EVA,
21:54you told Mission Control
21:55that you hadn't spent enough time
21:57in the decompression chamber.
21:59You stated that you were
22:00suffering from the bends.
22:02Mm-hmm.
22:02Miss Perry,
22:03I checked the records.
22:04Everything went according
22:05to the checklists.
22:07What is it you want me to say?
22:29Didn't think you'd show.
22:30Oh, what?
22:31You feel the need
22:31to whoop my ass again, Tiger?
22:33Those days are long gone.
22:35In case you haven't noticed,
22:36I'm not your little follower anymore.
22:37That I was.
22:39I always thought
22:40we were friends.
22:41Eh, you put up a good front.
22:42You were just like
22:43everybody else.
22:44Sell out.
22:45Nah, man,
22:46just tired of being pissed off
22:47all the time.
22:48You were making a religion
22:49out of your alienation,
22:50my friend.
22:51Yeah, well,
22:51isn't life ironic?
22:53Now everybody's
22:54knocking at my door.
22:55Even the people
22:56who wouldn't acknowledge
22:56my existence.
22:57See?
22:59even Neil Taggart's
23:00girlfriend.
23:02That's low,
23:02using Holly
23:03to get back at me, man.
23:04Hey, what can I say, man?
23:05The chick loves
23:05to be raptured.
23:08All right, asshole.
23:09Truth?
23:10She can't get enough
23:11of that shit,
23:11so why don't you
23:12tell me how it works?
23:12Ha!
23:13And I knew
23:14it would blow you away.
23:14The minute I sampled it,
23:15swear to God,
23:16I thought about you.
23:17And you've just seen
23:18the tip of the iceberg.
23:18So hook me up, brother.
23:20I don't know.
23:21Taggart takes balls.
23:25Balls.
23:27Let's go.
23:37Hey, young man,
23:38what you up to?
23:39Hey, Chuck.
23:42Listen, you ever
23:43hear of Shakespeare?
23:45I never met him.
23:47Listen to this.
23:48And so he plays
23:50his part.
23:51The sixth age
23:52shifts into the lean
23:53and slippered pantaloon.
23:55With spectacles on nose
23:57and pouch on side,
23:59his youthful hose
24:00well saved,
24:01a world too wide
24:02for his shrunk shank,
24:04and his big manly voice
24:06turning again
24:07toward childish
24:08treble pipes
24:10and whistles
24:11in his sound.
24:12All the world's a stage
24:13and all the men
24:14and women merely players.
24:15How'd you like it?
24:18You read the cliff notes.
24:20Did I?
24:23Chuck, I'm dying.
24:27Don't, don't be surprised.
24:29You just,
24:31just look at me.
24:34Well, Leighton,
24:35that's a hell of a way
24:35to tell me.
24:37What is it?
24:38There's nothing
24:39that you're gonna read
24:39about in a textbook,
24:41and it's something only
24:42that Apollo astronauts
24:44get is it's moon sickness.
24:47Moon sickness.
24:49Leighton,
24:50I'm not a goddamn cryptographer.
24:52You gotta decode
24:53that one for me.
24:54Well, suffice it to say
24:55we brought back more
24:57from our lunar escapades
24:59than moon rocks.
25:01You gotta start
25:02at the beginning
25:02and run this real slow.
25:04Good afternoon, Chuck.
25:04Hi, Caitlin.
25:05How are you?
25:06You ready?
25:07I guess so.
25:09Daddy's got a doctor's appointment.
25:11Oh, you might want to call me
25:13before you drop by next time.
25:15I am the keeper
25:16of the appointment book.
25:18Sorry, I'm intruded.
25:21Take care, young man.
25:22I'll be talking to you.
25:22Okay.
25:51I'll be talking to you.
25:58Now, this reminds me
25:59of the good old times, man.
26:00It's you and me
26:01hanging at the quarry.
26:02The rest of the world
26:02can bite us.
26:03Read about us in the papers.
26:04I don't need to go out
26:05in a blaze of glory anymore, man.
26:08But I wouldn't want
26:08to miss the fun.
26:14So what do you say, Deck?
26:15You spare a couple tabs?
26:16Well, you know,
26:17I don't have the equipment
26:18to press into the tabs,
26:19but, uh,
26:21I'll be safe.
26:22I'm not going to try it now, man.
26:24I just want to scorch something.
26:25I'll try it later.
26:27Raptor's best done
26:28in a group setting.
26:30It's kind of a
26:32communal experience.
26:33I'll keep that in mind.
26:37Offer's running out.
26:39What's the rush, man?
26:46All right, look,
26:47I think this stuff
26:47might be dangerous.
26:48I knew it!
26:49You want to take this shit
26:50to the cops, don't you?
26:51You're a fucking narc!
26:52You fucked up a good thing,
26:53Taggart!
26:56Taggart!
26:57Hold on, man.
27:00You're such an asshole, man.
27:01Give me some of that shit.
27:11Cheers.
27:15That boy.
27:19Can you imagine
27:20a 25-pound tumor
27:22going inside
27:23a human intestine, huh?
27:24I'd rather not.
27:26Less than 5%
27:27of gist malignancies
27:29respond to chemo.
27:30Uptical evap,
27:31automatic death sentence.
27:32Why haven't I heard
27:33of this before?
27:34A pill that actually
27:35cures cancer?
27:36I wouldn't put it
27:37that strongly.
27:38I mean,
27:38the medication
27:39has been shown
27:39to, like,
27:41substantially reduce
27:41the level of cancerous cells.
27:44Well, what if it was
27:44used as a preventative,
27:46say, in cases of, uh,
27:48gist in the family?
27:49I don't know
27:50if I'd recommend that.
27:51I mean,
27:51there's a lot of side effects.
27:53Uh, nausea, vomiting,
27:55liver toxicity.
27:56Dr. Bryce, for you.
27:57Oh, well,
27:58take it outside.
27:59I'll be right back.
28:00Um, help yourself.
28:00It's, it's very good.
28:05Dr. Bryce,
28:06you've got to
28:06hold the fire to the stairs.
28:27May I help you?
28:28Uh, I was just, um,
28:30having a little bite
28:30of the sandwich.
28:31I was hungry.
28:32He offered me
28:33some of it, so...
28:53Give him more.
28:58I think he's sweating.
29:05I think he's done.
29:32Fucking A, man.
29:33They finally did.
29:36They blew up
29:37the fucking world.
29:38What?
29:39The Space Shuttle Odyssey.
29:41Un-fucking-believable, man.
29:43You saw the future,
29:44Neil.
29:44You're the fucking man.
29:46You know.
29:47It's the rapture.
29:48We can link minds, man.
29:50All the processing power
29:51we need.
29:54You've got to tell me
29:54everything.
29:55We've got to get together
29:56in this, you and me.
29:56You tell me everything.
29:57No.
29:58No.
29:59Wait, listen, listen, listen.
30:00I've got something, too.
30:01I found this code
30:02on the Internet,
30:03and I was trying
30:03to decipher it,
30:04and only the Satan
30:05knew I was there, man.
30:06Dude, this thing
30:06was fucking alive, man.
30:08Fuck.
30:09Fuck.
30:10I don't know.
30:10He gave me the formula
30:11to rapture.
30:12I'll take you to it.
30:13And you, and me,
30:15and this, whatever
30:15the fuck it is,
30:16will save the fucking world, man.
30:18We'll rule the fucking world, man.
30:21I know what you found.
30:22It just sent you.
30:23You can't fucking trust
30:24that shit.
30:25I don't know
30:25what he's talking about, man.
30:26It's the best thing
30:27that's ever happened to me.
30:28What?
30:30Dude, once I absorbed
30:34everyone's fucking minds, man.
30:36I was like fucking God, man.
30:38I found this blueprint
30:39from a link from the website
30:41to do it permanently.
30:42You can, like,
30:43use other people's minds
30:45as a hard drive
30:46for your storage.
30:47That's screwed up thinking, man.
30:50Yeah?
30:51Yeah.
30:52Screwed up, huh?
30:53Yeah.
30:56You know,
30:57the downside of rapture
30:59is that
31:00after one hit,
31:01you're addicted.
31:07When you're ready
31:08to talk, Tiger,
31:09fuck you.
31:11You'll come call it back.
31:13What do you get down
31:13for next year?
31:14Be begging me for more!
31:16Taggart!
31:33They don't eat,
31:35sleep, or bleed.
31:36That's what you're up against.
31:38What I'm up against
31:39is a particular flight director.
31:41Wake up, Taggart.
31:42Shuttle program's finished.
31:43All the money's going
31:45into JPL and robotics.
31:48Your Kennedy-era mentality
31:49couldn't be more damaging
31:51than if...
31:55than if you
31:57intentionally
31:58sabotaged a mission.
32:00Say,
32:02took a demagnetizer
32:03and used it
32:04to destroy
32:05a satellite's guidance system.
32:07I ain't got a clue
32:08as to what you're talking about.
32:10Why don't you just take
32:11a deep breath
32:12and back off
32:13at the hearings?
32:14Well, that guy
32:14here was right.
32:16Feeling vulnerable?
32:18Why don't we talk
32:19about the cadre?
32:27What do you know
32:27about the cadre?
32:31Feeling vulnerable.
32:37All right.
32:38All right.
32:40You've got my interest.
32:44We'll talk later.
32:54Kurt.
32:55Kurt, this is bullshit.
32:58Kurt!
33:03Where is he?
33:04You take it easy,
33:04he's here.
33:05Kurt, don't be the third
33:06guy in a hockey fight.
33:07Just how the hell
33:07did he get here?
33:08He called me from the road.
33:09He was actually
33:09very responsible.
33:10He knew he couldn't drive.
33:1122 years old.
33:13He's getting loaded.
33:13He's supposed to be
33:14saving a goddamn world.
33:15Fucking hell, Chuck.
33:16You don't understand.
33:16He had to take the drugs
33:17so I could get a sample
33:18from his bloodstream.
33:19It was very smart
33:20and very courageous
33:21and you should thank him.
33:22You got a light in here?
33:23All right.
33:24It hurts his eyes.
33:25Yeah.
33:25Hey,
33:26make it let me out of here, huh?
33:27You look worse than dirt.
33:28No, no.
33:29I'm fine, really.
33:30You guys can't tie me.
33:33Come on,
33:34this is crazy, Dad.
33:38Don't make me regret this.
33:41Scout's honor.
33:47Oh, Dad, you're great.
33:51That's so much better.
33:53What's that on your hand?
33:54What?
33:55That.
33:56Oh, holy shit.
33:57Look at that.
33:58I've got no fucking clue
33:59how I got there.
34:01I gotta go.
34:02I gotta go get
34:03all these car back.
34:04You're not going anywhere.
34:06No, no, I'm fine, really.
34:06Just sit down.
34:07No, I just need to get
34:09some fresh air, Dad.
34:10This one, you need to go.
34:12God damn it, Kurt.
34:14Get the fuck
34:15across me.
34:16God damn it.
34:17Let me go.
34:17Let me go.
34:18I'll be right
34:19goddamn back.
34:21You fucking bastards.
34:23That's right.
34:23We're sons of bitches, too.
34:24You hate me, don't you, Dad?
34:26You hate me
34:27because I beat Mark.
34:28I beat him
34:28and I wasn't supposed to
34:29because I'm the fuck up.
34:30I'm the loser
34:31and he's your fucking golden boy
34:33and I left him
34:33in the fucking dust.
34:34Yeah, you left him
34:35in the dust.
34:35Yeah, that's right.
34:36I did.
34:37And Mom,
34:37Mom fucking worships him
34:39and she totally trashes me.
34:40She trashes you.
34:41Yeah.
34:42You know what I don't get?
34:42I don't get how he blows
34:43his fucking life up
34:44and second time around
34:45you're right there for him, huh?
34:47I don't get that.
34:48Why do you fucking hate me so much, huh?
34:50You want me to die here, don't you?
34:51Oh, shut your mouth.
34:53You're catching flies.
34:53Fuck you.
34:54Fuck me
34:55and sit there and scream
34:56and pull your goddamn bones
34:58out of your sockets
34:58but you're going to sit there
34:59and sweat that shit out.
35:01Fuckers!
35:02Fuckers!
35:04Fuckers!
35:05Fuckers!
35:07I wish I could give you
35:07a more precise breakdown
35:08but I've never seen
35:09a compound like this.
35:10I can't tell the molecular structure
35:12is similar to aminitrogen,
35:13but turbo.
35:14Aminitrogen?
35:15It's the orbital frontal cortex.
35:16Tell me more.
35:17It's the command center
35:18of addiction of the brain.
35:19One hit of this stuff,
35:20you got yourself a habit.
35:21And there's something else.
35:23Serotonin re-outtake inhibitor.
35:24A lot like ketamine.
35:25So it's also hallucinogen?
35:27Dude, it's past that.
35:27It's all the way to ESP.
35:29Is that all?
35:30There's more, right?
35:31I'm no expert
35:32on internal medicine,
35:33but this synthesis
35:34looks like it can trigger
35:36a massive response
35:36in the cardiovascular system.
35:38My advice,
35:39if you know someone on this,
35:41see to it that they ride a well.
36:05This is you and Neil.
36:07Yeah.
36:16Who's the guy in Modena's?
36:19Right in here.
36:23I'll take you to them.
36:39How you doing?
36:41I feel like a truck ran over me.
36:43I can imagine.
36:44Here's some iced tea.
36:46Some orange juice
36:46with a little sugar in it.
36:48It helps with a shake.
36:49Come on.
36:50Your friend's been calling
36:51on your cell phone.
36:52His twin brother
36:53didn't come home last night.
36:55Holly and that other girl
36:56are missing too.
36:57What?
37:09I don't know where they are.
37:11I don't know where they are.
37:12I'll call Angela and Sarah.
37:16Son of a...
37:17Bitch!
37:19God.
37:35I think they flew the coop.
37:38I'm sorry I said that.
37:40All right.
37:44What ho, Watson?
37:45A ladder.
37:48Shall we try it?
37:50All right.
37:59Oh, Christ.
38:12He's coming.
38:14What's going on?
38:15Neil, Neil, are you okay?
38:18Neil?
38:27Oh, God.
38:28Oh, my God, sweetie.
38:31Oh, my God.
38:32It's like a horror movie.
38:34He's here.
38:35He's here.
38:36What's he doing?
38:37He's here.
38:41Who's here?
38:47Neil, there's someone
38:48pulling up out front.
38:49Neil, is he driving
38:50a late model Jeep
38:51with roll bar and fog lights?
38:53Come, Elise.
38:54Let me deal with him.
39:00I'll be right back.
39:01Wait a minute.
39:01Where are you going?
39:02You can't stop him.
39:04Sit tight.
39:05Angela.
39:09Angela.
39:17God damn it, cut me loose.
39:26Shit.
39:43Hey, brother.
40:07Look at us.
40:08Trip to the quarry
40:09for old time's sake, huh?
40:12Take it.
40:16I'm a fucking killer.
40:17I swear to God,
40:17I'll kill all three of them, man.
40:18I can do it right from here.
40:19I've got the power, man.
40:20I've seen the other fucking limits.
40:23What do you want from me?
40:25Everything.
40:28I want to know
40:28how you went to space.
40:31How you went back in time.
40:33Saw the end of the world.
40:38Then,
40:40I'll add you to my hard drive.
40:42Processing power, man.
40:43That's all you're going to be.
40:44It doesn't have to be like this.
40:46It does if I fucking say so.
40:50The blood pressure on their brain
40:51was called a fucking chart.
40:54What are their eyes doing?
40:55It's an indicator of brain activity.
40:57And yesterday,
40:57they have some sort of psychic link.
40:59They must be in high gear.
41:04You're a joke, man.
41:06And you're a victim.
41:08I am no fucking victim.
41:09You're a pawn.
41:11I am not controlled.
41:13I control.
41:15You know, son,
41:16you're fucking pathetic.
41:18And I wish you'd never been born.
41:20I am awesome.
41:23I'm so fucking awesome.
41:26You're awesome.
41:28Feel your face.
41:29You know what you look like?
41:31You're not a god.
41:32You're a freak.
41:38Fuck you!
41:39Oh, come on.
41:39You're just a scared little boy
41:40that nobody loves.
41:42And you're afraid your daddy was right.
41:43And deep down inside,
41:44you really are pathetic.
41:45And rapture was your big shot
41:47to prove him wrong
41:47when all it did
41:48is fuck you up more, man.
41:49Shut up!
41:50Face it, dick.
41:54Let me help you.
41:57I don't want you fucking pity, man.
42:04I just wanted you
42:05to be my fucking friend.
42:07You can't have resting rates, 165.
42:10Brain activity is throwing
42:11them massive hypertension.
42:12We need to do something
42:13to relieve the blood pressure fast
42:14or we're going to be looking
42:15at the remnants of three corpses.
42:16Well, if you want the advice
42:17of an amateur mechanic,
42:19how about a pocket knife
42:20and the knowledge
42:21that pressure is a function of volume?
42:23Oh, dear.
42:23You got that knife?
42:25Wish me luck
42:26and cover your eyes.
42:27You've got nothing to lose.
42:29All right.
42:31Here we go.
42:32I am your friend.
42:34You can start over.
42:35You can straighten yourself out.
42:37I know you can.
42:38I never needed you!
42:40Or any of you!
42:48You're fucking pathetic.
42:51I know what I'm...
42:53Can you stand?
42:54Yeah!
42:54Where are they going?
42:56I wish you've never been born.
42:58Where the fuck are they going?
43:00I think it's loud.
43:02What the fuck?
43:03You're fucking pathetic.
43:05What are you doing?
43:08What are you doing, Dickard?
43:13No!
43:15No!
43:17No!
43:19No!
43:20No!
43:21No!
43:26No!
43:42Fuck.
43:47How's Holly doing?
43:49Neil.
43:51Uh, okay, I guess.
43:53She's still in the hospital.
43:55Parents won't let me see her.
43:56Will those kids remember anything about us?
43:58I hope not.
44:00But we'll have to wait and see.
44:01What the hell does Ascension get from hooking kids on drugs anyway?
44:05Power.
44:05A way to lend itself into the physical world to link minds with human beings.
44:09I mean, think of all that brilliance trapped in cyberspace when the real action's out here.
44:13Do you think artificial life forms can feel?
44:16Feel?
44:17It's pretty unlikely, but they do evolve.
44:19And controlling human beings is undoubtedly adapted for survival.
44:22How do you feel, Neil?
44:26It's sad.
44:28It's really sad.
44:39Peri, Angelo.
44:41Results are general psychiatric evaluation.
44:46Patient seems to be faking symptoms.

44:52Strongly recommend continued suspension from duty.
44:59There's a new development.
45:06Caitlin?
45:08Sure.
45:08I was looking for your dad.
45:09I swiped his book of the bard the other day.
45:11I wanted to come back and get it back to him.
45:14Daddy's in the VA hospital.
45:15You're kidding.
45:16Why?
45:17Daddy has ALS.
45:19Lou Gehrig's disease.
45:20His auto-immune system is attacking his nervous system.
45:24Christ.
45:26I'm sorry.
45:27I didn't even know it.
45:29He was pretty brave about the loss of motor control because his mind had been spared.
45:34The doctors told us it was only a matter of time.
45:39It started just before the party.
45:41What started before the party?
45:43The ALS?
45:45Dementia.
45:46Dementia?
45:47He was imagining all kinds of crazy things.
45:50He asked me to keep an eye on him because he was so afraid of embarrassing himself.
45:57Two days ago, he woke up.
45:58He didn't know who I was.
46:06I urged this committee to cut the Odyssey Shuttle program and redirect the funds to automated laboratories.
46:15Manstein.
46:18In conclusion, I would like to quote Max Born, Nobel Prize winner in physics, who said,
46:24Intellect separates the possible from the impossible.
46:27Reason, the sensible from the senseless.
46:31Now, space travel is a triumph of the intellect, but a tragic failure of reason.
46:43Where are the keys?
46:44Where am I?
46:44Where are the keys?
46:45Right there.
46:46Where is my dry cleaning?
46:48In my closet.
46:49We have to go.
46:50Bye, Daddy.
46:51Okay, bye, big guy.
46:53Closet, closet, closet.
46:55Closet.
47:33I am a tree in summer.
47:37I am tall and green.
47:41I give a home to the birds and the squirrels.
47:46world. I provide shade from the sun. I am an autumn leaf. My colors are bright and beautiful,
47:58but I am not on the earth very long. Enjoy me while you can.
48:12The end.
48:20Good luck.
48:27The end.
