22:19This has been an entertaining game so far. What a game it's been for Jadon Mickens.
22:23He's knocking on the door of 100 yards, and there's still a quarter to play.
22:27Right now, his team by one is at a hole.
22:33America comes back tomorrow at 7 Eastern on Fox. Check the local listings for the game in your area.
22:39And yes, Louisville is the home of the plant that makes the Louisville slugger.
22:43Oh, the best bats on the planet.
23:14I mean, you even talk about other bats anymore?
23:15And out to the left center gap.
23:18Speaking of gaps, I tell you, Snoop Conner thought he had a run, but right through the gap, Cam Gill
23:26King.
23:27Look at those. Those are beautiful, man.
23:29We've got the Fox Sports, the UFL. It's the Louisville Kings. You've got the Stallions bat.
23:35Oh, one for each team.
23:36Yeah, I tell you what, that's good stuff.
23:39Can that go in your display case?
23:40I would love that. That would be amazing.
23:44What's the most home runs you hit this season when you were playing?
23:47Oh, you know, Kurt, I don't want to talk about that so much.
23:50You were singles hitter? Is that it?
23:51I believe it was two.
23:53Okay, that's two more than I've hit.
23:56Flag.
23:59Out of bounds, incomplete.
24:01Deion Kane, who was a leading receiver last year, hasn't caught a pass tonight.
24:06I don't think that one's going to count, but looks like Louisville may have jumped offside.
24:10Defensively.
24:13Outside, number 46 in the neutral zone at the snap.
24:16Five-yard penalty.
24:18Third down.
24:19And it was Cam Gill.
24:20First penalty of the night for Louisville.
24:22Kurt, that play in its entirety encapsulates my professional baseball career.
24:28It was an offside and a throw complete out of bounds.
24:30Just not quite.
24:33Like I said, it's two more homers than the minor leagues that I had.
24:36You know?
24:37So be proud of yourself.
24:38You know what, though?
24:39It led you to here.
24:41Had you been a successful baseball player and made $100 million, you wouldn't be doing
24:44this right now.
24:45That's right.
24:45Who wants that?
24:46There we go.
24:47Snoop Conner doesn't want any of that.
24:49Cam Dantzler once again coming right through the gap.
24:53And this will go defense standing tall.
24:55Yeah, and this is a big loss right here because I think that they're right on the outside of
24:59possible field goal range.
25:00But now they're across the 50.
25:02They're outside of the 40-yard line.
25:04I don't think that they've got the range here.
25:06I would assume that this is a go-for-it type of territory.
25:11And I think they are going to give them forward progress across the 40-yard line.
25:14So the ball is going to be snapped at the 38.
25:20And so they won't go for it.
25:22Fourth and five.
25:27Are you kidding me?
25:30He doesn't get the first down, but Jadon Lickens makes a meta catch.
25:34Stopped, though.
25:35This time by DeAndre Prince.
25:38And it will be a turnover on down for this Louisville defense.
25:45And they take it over.
25:46Trying to hang on to the lead.
25:51Really good adjustment here on this fourth down from Louisville.
25:54So you're going to see them change the coverage.
25:56Watch Prince.
25:57He's going to be in man coverage.
25:58So as Lickens goes in motion, he follows him across the formation.
26:02And now it's not a linebacker on the slot receiver, but it's a corner.
26:06So they're in nickel.
26:07They've got an extra corner on the field.
26:09And now he can close down that space a lot quicker than a linebacker would.
26:13And it's a matchup that favors the Kings.
26:16Great job by Chris Redmond.
26:17Great adjustment on a fourth down.
26:18We've seen him convert on those fourth downs with that same route several times.
26:22But an adjustment there on defense gets a stop.
26:25And so Louisville takes it over.
26:31And a catch made by Winstead goes up and over to hole it in.
26:36And a huge play right over the shoulder of Alex Cook.
26:41Winstead converts for 35.
26:43I mean, this is an incredible play by Winstead.
26:47He's 6'3".
26:47And he just goes right over the helmet.
26:50Just tops him up right there.
26:51Cook is only six foot.
26:53And Winstead is able to get that catch.
26:55And now Louisville has all the momentum.
26:57Great defensive stop.
26:59And now they're in business here inside the 35.
27:01They've been waiting for the receivers to make a play.
27:03And Winstead did.
27:04He makes another one but gets hit low by Cook this time.
27:08And he's slow to get up.
27:09Boy, and he took a big hit right there.
27:12That did not look good.
27:13Come on, come on, come on.
27:19Well, you could see Cook was one of the first guys to signal to the sidelines to come out.
27:26We'll take a quick injury timeout.
27:30Well, the Louisville training staff still working on Isaiah Winstead who took that big hit.
27:35He is sitting upright now.
27:37So that's a positive sign.
27:39Yeah, it was just a really difficult position to be in for Winstead because he was going right down the
27:45seam.
27:46And his defender went low.
27:49And the safety coming in was going high.
27:52And so he was just kind of left midair trying to make that catch.
27:57And just nothing you can do right there.
28:03You'll see it.
28:04So he goes up.
28:05So you can see the first defender goes low.
28:07And then he kind of hits the ground with his head right there as Cook was trying to come in.
28:12But you can see he just kind of slings down and hits that turf hard.
28:17And immediately everybody, both teams, were yelling for the training staff to get out.
28:23And there's his quarterback obviously concerned.
28:26He's turned down on the knee.
28:27And let's hope Isaiah Winstead is okay.
28:33Winstead a couple of catches for 60 yards tonight.
28:36He's been their most productive receiver.
28:39Blue 88.
28:40Blue 88.
28:43Here we go in second and 10.
28:44Bean hit as he throws.
28:46And that is caught by the tight end, Davidson, running around a little bit.
28:50Gets basically back to the line of scrimmage.
28:58You know, somewhere a coach on the headset is saying, that's the one you catch.
29:04Right.
29:06I mean, you look at the numbers for Bean tonight.
29:0811 of 21.
29:10So barely 50%.
29:12But he's played so much better just having had help.
29:14Yeah, I mean, there's been a few drops, throwing the ball really well down the field.
29:18You know what, his last year in college, the only guy that had a better yards per attempt
29:23down the field was Jaden Daniels, who was the Heisman Trophy winner at LSU.
29:28That's how good he was at Kansas, throwing the ball down the field.
29:30And I believe that they had to take a timeout there as that play clock was dwindling down.
29:38Let's see what advice he gets from Chris Redman.
29:40Hey, yeah, barely.
29:43And go for it on four.
29:44You say they were asking if they had to be at two downs or not.
29:49We got two downs right now.
29:50Hey, cool, we're down.
29:51Yeah, yeah, let's run gold rush.
29:53What are you doing?
29:54Hell yeah.
29:54Hey, hey, let's run gold rush.
29:58One number.
30:00Give me the number.
30:03101.
30:06Huddled, huddled, huddled, hurry, hurry.
30:0911, 11, 11.
30:11Gold rush.
30:13Gold rush.
30:15Hold on, hold on, hold on, I got you.
30:17Rory Burns.
30:19Hey, Rory Burns, 76, gold rush on.
30:22Ready?
30:22Dig, dig, dig.
30:25Able left, Able left.
30:26Get home, Ty, get home.
30:30Can you see the numbers over 200 total yards?
30:32Blue 88!
30:33And he's pushing for them to go for it.
30:35Fourth down.
30:36Pressure coming.
30:40Speed, keeping his eyes out of field.
30:42Makes the connection at a first down.
30:44Lucky Jackson down to the 10-yard line.
30:47First down, Kings.
30:5021 on the play.
30:52That's such a good job of keeping his eyes downfield as he breaks contain.
30:56Watch as he takes off.
30:57So he's going to take off over the right side, but he's just going to keep his eyes down the
31:01field.
31:01And then he's got Lucky Jackson right there who just slips behind the defender.
31:05Beautiful adjustment by Jackson there.
31:07In space.
31:08And he just slips behind there and finds the soft spot in the defense.
31:11And he's able to get a big completion.
31:13And get that ball closer to the goal line.
31:17Hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry, hurry.
31:18Lucky Jackson at it off.
31:19He had high school in Lexington coming back and playing for the Kings.
31:22Blue 80, honey.
31:23First and goal.
31:25Beam.
31:26Just a little too hard for Jackson incomplete.
31:31Boykin had an opportunity there, number three.
31:34Tips and overthrows from a quarterback.
31:37Man, every coach will tell you.
31:38That holds your breath time as an offense because you think those tips and overthrows,
31:42they've got a chance to get picked off.
31:44This one is overthrown and it's tipped.
31:46And there's Boykin.
31:47Almost has a chance at that football.
31:50And he knows it.
31:51See, he knows tips and overthrows.
31:52He lets go of that ball and he's thinking of himself.
31:54Oh, my goodness.
31:57And so is Redmond.
31:59Redmond.
32:00Blue 80.
32:02Blue 80.
32:04It's now.
32:08Game and just a yard on the plate.
32:11That's a great stop by Trey Norwood here.
32:14And this is one of those positions you just feel like holding him to a field goal
32:21if you're A.J. McCarron in this Birmingham defense would be a huge win.
32:24Okay, and Lee, 377 shot, dragging it on.
32:27Ready?
32:38ДИНАМИЧНАЯ МУЗЫКА
32:58What does a field goal give you?
32:59A four-point lead?
33:00I understand that then, you know, a field goal doesn't hurt you.
33:03But if you don't get it, you're backing them up inside of the five-yard line.
33:07I think that this is a go for it, personally.
33:10That might be aggressive here.
33:12But, again, you think about worst-case scenario.
33:15Worst-case scenario, Kurt, Birmingham's starting their drive inside of the five.
33:19Your defense is playing really well.
33:21This is certainly the safe play.
33:23And I'll take a four-point lead, sure.
33:25But, boy, you know, an opportunity to punch it in and create a larger margin,
33:29that would be a little enticing if I was the head coach here.
33:33And you can hear the sellout crowd agreeing with you.
33:35They wanted them to go for it.
33:37Instead, Tanner Brown makes it a four-point game.
33:40So Louisville extends the lead,
33:42and they take advantage of their defense coming up with another big stop.
33:45The question is, can Matt Corral answer that?
33:47Because his team is still within a touchdown.
33:52Well, in their first game ever,
33:54the Louisville Kings holding on to a four-point lead
33:56over the Birmingham Stallions in this opener of the 2026 UFL season.
34:04Kurt Menefee, Joel Klatt, Jake Klatt,
34:07and our entire Fox Food coming team.
34:17And the former Jaguar takes it out to the 35-yard line.
34:20Well, it's a four-point game, Joel.
34:23Came down to kicking.
34:25At least it has up to this point.
34:27This was an extra point.
34:28That one is missed left.
34:31And this is an attempted field goal.
34:33That one is blocked.
34:34And we've got a four-point deficit.
34:36And Birmingham has had such a great pipeline of kickers over the years.
34:42You think about Brandon Aubrey.
34:43Got to start with the Birmingham Stallions.
34:46Jake Bates.
34:47You've got Harrison Mevis,
34:49who was just kicking for Birmingham last year.
34:51And then he had that tremendous year with the Rams a year ago.
34:54I think he was 18 and 19.
34:56Field goals, four games, four games, four games, four extra points.
34:58But today it has not been the same for a kicking game.
35:01And what that has done for Birmingham,
35:04every one of their offensive possessions,
35:06except for that one right before the half,
35:08has gotten into scoring territory.
35:10In fact, you look at this second half.
35:12You know, they had two drives, 21 plays, zero points.
35:16They just have not finished in the scoring territory.
35:18And that's something that A.J. McCarron stressed coming out of halftime.
35:21But they have not done a good job of that offensively,
35:24getting points out of those long, successful drives.
35:26Have not been able to move those plays.
35:28That's a good defense as well.
35:30And that's kept it a close game.
35:33Well, underneath.
35:35First catch all the night for Deion Kane,
35:38but he goes nowhere because he's wrapped up right away by Eric Monroe.
35:43Three yards on the play.
35:49I mean, Kane was all UFL last season,
35:51led the team in receiving,
35:53and that's his first catch tonight.
35:55Mason, we got train left, 54, X-level, 0-1, ready?
36:00X-level.
36:07They need him to step up in a minute.
36:09180!
36:10Watch out!
36:14Underneath, and there's Kane again.
36:16First down, he does.
36:18Answers the call on back-to-back plays to keep the chain moving.
36:22And that was a really nice catch
36:23because Corral threw an absolute eater in there
36:26right over at the middle of the field,
36:27and it was a bit high.
36:29And Kane was able to corral that one in
36:31for Matt Corral, no pun intended there.
36:33You know, Kane is 6'1".
36:35He's a tall, wide receiver.
36:37He's almost 200 pounds.
36:38You can see him just snatch this one out of the air.
36:41A really nice catch
36:42and a nice first down for the Stallion's offense.
36:45Ten yards on the pickup.
36:48And it's a first down just shy of midfield.
36:54McFarland gets it across the 50-yard line.
36:59Gets backed up after a short game of two.
37:02You know, I know they've had kicking trouble for Birmingham,
37:05but just a reminder,
37:07UFL does have a four-point option.
37:09There is a four-point field goal
37:11if you kick it from 60 yards plus.
37:14The ball would have to be at the 42-yard line or further.
37:17And Nairbe has not been great today.
37:21He does have one make,
37:22but just something to keep in the back of your mind here.
37:25180.
37:25One shot.
37:26Here comes the blitz.
37:29Corral walks the back
37:31and underflows Kane incomplete.
37:34Give Dantzler credit for swatting it down.
37:39This defense has stepped up here,
37:41but this was a miscommunication of sorts.
37:45Obviously, Kane thought that this ball was going down the field.
37:48Corral thought that he was maybe hooking that one up
37:50or trying to go back shoulder,
37:51so not on the same page there.
37:54Dantzler was able to knock it away.
37:58Yeah, you got to go.
37:59Bender, Bender, Bender.
38:05Bender, Bender, Bender.
38:06Keep in mind, you got to go forward and slow down no matter what.
38:13Corral underneath.
38:15Connor, right at that first down marker,
38:18where did he step out of bounds is going to be the question.
38:21It looks like he just got across that line to Kane.
38:26Nice route.
38:27That's just a check down out of the backfield,
38:28and it's a burst,
38:29so you burst against man coverage,
38:31so he's got a man defender,
38:32and he just takes off almost like a drag route.
38:35Corral was able to find him,
38:37and they moved the chains.
38:38Good job by Corral as well.
38:39Getting himself out of trouble
38:41and outside of the pocket.
38:42There's that route right there.
38:43He bursts over to the right side.
38:44Corral finds him for a first.
38:46And he gets fast enough to get the first down.
38:49180, wait!
38:51From the 40.
38:53With Connor dancing nowhere to go.
38:56The music stopped quickly.
38:58Travis Bell getting the pressure there.
39:00This Louisville defense has done a great job adjusting.
39:02Their halftime adjustments have been sound.
39:04So third and fourth down,
39:06what they're doing is they're running some more man coverage
39:08out of nickel defense,
39:08allowing corners to cover guys like
39:11Jenna Mickens in the slot.
39:13Great job and adjustment by Jamie Sharper.
39:15They've also done a good job on first and second down,
39:18stopping the run,
39:19which was effective for Birmingham in that first half.
39:22And their inability to run the football here in the second half
39:25has made a much more difficult opportunity
39:28for Corral to throw the ball.
39:30Play fake.
39:31Corral.
39:31Oh, miscommunication again.
39:34Justin Ross had a step,
39:37but he looked over the wrong shoulder
39:39or was thrown over the wrong shoulder.
39:40Which one?
39:41I tell you, they had him too.
39:43They had him.
39:43So Louisville is selling out to stop the run.
39:46And so here you're going to get a little like en route.
39:48And then he's trying to just take off right down the field.
39:52And Corral is trying to lead him down the field
39:53and clearly not on the same page right there.
39:56Not even in the same vicinity.
39:59I don't know if they had the same book on that one.
40:01They'll get the same page.
40:03And Corral knows they missed an opportunity.
40:06And that's probably going all the way to the end zone if he catches it.
40:10Instead, it's third and ten.
40:13Here comes the blitz.
40:15Underneath to Ross.
40:16He makes the catch this time.
40:20First down, Stallions.
40:25There's an injured Louisville player down on the field as well right now.
40:29That is a terrific throw from Matt Corral.
40:32Little in-breaking route.
40:3417 yards to Ross.
40:35They were not on the same page.
40:37They get on the same page for a huge conversion.
40:40We'll check on the injured king when we come back.
40:43Yeah, Kenny Robinson's down.
40:44We'll take a timeout.
40:48Well, Louisville lost receiver Isaiah Winstead to a head injury earlier.
40:52And it looks like the same thing happened to Kenny Robinson here.
40:54But he got hit by one of his defensive teammates.
40:57Yeah, it's kind of friendly fire here.
41:00You see that heel came up and just kicked him right in the head.
41:04Man, I tell you, that's just unfortunate.
41:08And we got chuffed left.
41:09Split five dog on one.
41:10Insult to injury as they made the catch and got the conversion.
41:13So, first down here, now inside of three minutes and 40 seconds.
41:20And inside the 25-yard block and down by four.
41:25Corral on the keeper.
41:28Boy, he's lost his footing a couple of times.
41:30That costed yards there.
41:31Yeah, that really did.
41:32He had a few yards there.
41:34But now you just start thinking about the game strategy.
41:36Down four.
41:37Or, you know, would you kick a field goal?
41:39One, you haven't been that reliable in the kicking game.
41:42They missed an extra point, missed a field goal, got that one blocked.
41:44They've got three timeouts left.
41:47And now you're getting now inside of three minutes.
41:49Now A.J. McCarron's going to have to start thinking about what is his decision if he gets down to
41:53a fourth down.
41:54Is this going to be a field goal and play for a two-possession game?
41:56Or is he going to try to get into the end zone on this series?
42:02He doesn't have to make the decision because they pick up the first down.
42:08Anthony McFarlane with the run.
42:12Yeah, and as this clock dwindles down, you know, this is where you're starting to be in a situation
42:20where this is probably your last chance with the football.
42:24Or at least that's how you have to play it.
42:32A.J.'s got to communicate that to Tyler Siskey.
42:35Now Tyler Siskey's got to communicate that to Matt Corral.
42:38Everyone needs to know this is four-down territory.
42:42Davis, no, pardon me.
42:44It's Anthony McFarlane.
42:45And he gets tripped up just past the line of scrimmage.
42:49Cam Dantzler with another tackle.
42:51He has been busy in that secondary.
42:53And that's good enough to stop them right at the two-minute warning.
42:56Louisville trying to hang on and win the first game in franchise history.
43:17Final two minutes of the opener here in Louisville, where the hometown Kings playing the first game in franchise history
43:24holds on to the lead late.
43:26Over the Birmingham Stallions.
43:28It's a four-point contest.
43:29Birmingham knocking on the door at the 14-yard line.
43:34Let's see how this finishes.
43:35Three delta, head strike.
43:36One-one ready.
43:40A.J. McCarron first game as head coach of the Stallions.
43:44Trying to get the win column.
43:45180.
43:47What do you see?
43:50What do you see?
43:50Yeah, man.
43:51Take the hands off.
43:52Open Justin Walsh touchdown.
43:54And Birmingham's back on top.
44:07What a great read by Matt Corral.
44:10This is an RPO.
44:11That means that if this safety comes down into the box, he's going to throw this route right behind him.
44:16He sees him come down.
44:17Boom.
44:18And it's an easy throw.
44:19Great route and release from Ross.
44:21There's no doubt.
44:21But you've got to assume he wins as a quarterback.
44:23And all you're doing is reading that safety.
44:26He steps down, and you throw it right behind him.
44:28There's the fake.
44:29Great ball action in the backfield.
44:31And then there's Matt Corral to Ross for the touchdown.
44:34And now A.J. McCarron's got to make a decision about what he does here.
44:38One, two, or three.
44:39I think that you've got to at least put one point on the board so that a field goal doesn't
44:43beat you.
44:44Remember, with the clock rules, the clock stops after first downs.
44:47This is like college football.
44:48So with two timeouts and the clock rules as they are, a minute 55 is an eternity.
44:53What you don't want to do is give Louisville a chance to just go down and kick a field goal
44:57to win.
44:58You take the one point here, create a three-point edge, and then try to have your defense hold.
45:06And Louisville will still be allowed because they could kick a three- or four-point field goal to win
45:12it.
45:13So a lot to be decided if Garibay gets this through.
45:16He's missed one.
45:17He misses his second.
45:19Wow.
45:20Wow.
45:21Two missed extra points and a missed field goal by Garibay.
45:26Garibay keeps it a two-point game.
45:33Justin Ross puts Birmingham on top, but how long will it last?
45:39Can Louisville in the first game in franchise history turn it into the first victory in franchise history?
45:48They've got a chance.
45:52Can I kick it to all the people?
45:55Justin Ross gave Birmingham the lead, but the missed extra point keeps it a two-point game.
46:0115-13 Birmingham on top of Louisville.
46:06And the Kings have a couple of timeouts, just over two minutes, and the clock works in their favor.
46:13You'll see what they can do.
46:14Yeah, it's a lot of time, and in particular with this kickoff.
46:18As we've seen in the NFL and now in the UFL, they're going to get good field position here.
46:36And so Jason Bean and the Kings will start in great territory.
46:42He has had a good night.
46:44Can it end in a victory?
46:45And I think what's been most dangerous are his legs.
46:49And Jake, when you think about his legs, I think that's what Birmingham has to focus on,
46:54is trying to keep him inside of that pocket.
47:03He has been dangerous with his legs, with his arm,
47:07and just a couple of drop passes from having a dominant night,
47:10but he needs to perform here on this drive.
47:13From the shot guard.
47:17Escapes the pocket.
47:21And just throws that one away, incomplete.
47:26You start thinking about who the main targets have been.
47:29Lucky Jackson has been the most consistent connection tonight with Jason Bean.
47:35They need some yardage here.
47:37Their kicker, Tanner Brown, you go back to his career at Oklahoma State,
47:40his long was 52 yards.
47:43It was also the longest he ever attempted.
47:45It was an over time against TCU.
47:48And he's kicking into the wind.
47:50So they're going to need a lot of yardage here
47:52to feel like they've got what I would consider
47:56to be comfortable field goal range for Tanner Brown.
47:58You also want to run some clock so you don't get Birmingham the ball back too soon.
48:03Going deep.
48:06In the double coverage and it is picked off.
48:11Hudson Clark.
48:17There is a flag on the play.
48:21Hold on.
48:25Holding.
48:26Offense number 71.
48:28And it won't matter.
48:29Death penalty is declined.
48:30The result of the play is an interception.
48:33First down, Birmingham.
48:34Third turnover of the night by this Birmingham defense.
48:40Well, here's the hole.
48:41This is going to be obvious.
48:42You'll see it right away.
48:43But then Jason Bean just throws this one with way too much air.
48:47Here's the choke hold right here.
48:48That's good in MMA, not in UFL.
48:50And there's the ball.
48:51It's just got way too much air.
48:52And Hudson Clark is able to just run under it like it's almost a punt.
48:56Trying to go to Tariq Black.
48:57Good coverage by Cooper down the field.
49:00There's Clark with the pick.
49:02You just cannot make that throw.
49:04There's lots of time.
49:05You've got timeouts in your back pocket.
49:07You don't have to go all the way down the field like that.
49:11Jason Bean has had a sensational game.
49:14And has not been helped out by his wide receiver.
49:16Some drops on the outside.
49:17He's been good with his legs.
49:18But that was certainly his poorest decision of the night.
49:21Poorest throw of the night.
49:22And it really hurts him there.
49:24Clark steps in front for an interception.
49:26All right.
49:26So just under a minute and a half left.
49:28Louisville does still have the two timeouts.
49:30If they can get a couple of stops defensively and get the ball back,
49:33they still have a chance.
49:34But first things first.
49:36180.
49:37One shot.
49:40Coming home from Tuck to Bennett.
49:43Snoop Conner out through the 30-yard line.
49:47Hudson Clark and his defense coming in big at a key time.
49:50Yeah, they can get the ball back with about 25 seconds left.
49:53But that's only if they get a stop.
49:55So Birmingham, if they can move the chains here,
49:58this game is going to be wrapped up.
50:00And Chris Redman has got to be sick right now.
50:03Because his quarterback, Jason Bean, played a really solid game.
50:06But just wrong throw, wrong decision, wrong moment right there.
50:10Again, he had lots of time.
50:12That was not panic time to try to force the ball down the field.
50:15And that's certainly a learning moment.
50:17You're going to go back and try to improve from as a quarterback.
50:21Now, for Birmingham's perspective, you know,
50:24you've got to drain this clock a bit and get this first down.
50:27And obviously trying to end this game with your offense on the field.
50:30That's the objective.
50:31Color.
50:32We got trough right.
50:33Two delta.
50:34Second color.
50:35Second color.
50:39Yeah, I got it.
50:40I got it.
50:41Don't go.
50:42Cut.
50:44180.
50:45Wait.
50:53It brings up third down.
50:54And Louisville will use that final timeout.
50:57That brings up a much more difficult third down.
51:00And they just sent the house there.
51:03That's a good call by Jamie Sharper, the defensive coordinator.
51:06And now Adrian McCarron and his coaching staff,
51:08they're going to have to make a decision here.
51:10Do you allow Matt Corral to try to throw this ball
51:14or get him on the edge to try to get this conversion?
51:19Hey.
51:22What would you do?
51:23Hey, who's the edge?
51:24I would put the quarterback on the edge.
51:26And so that he has a run pass option.
51:29If it's wide open, then he can just toss it ahead.
51:33Trough right.
51:34Two delta.
51:36No.
51:41Trough right.
51:42Trough right.
51:43Split.
51:43Four dog.
51:44Trough right.
51:45Split.
51:45Four dog.
51:46I won't hurt.
51:46That sounds like just a regular run play,
51:49unless there's a read from Matt Corral on the edge.
52:00That's about the fourth time we've seen him lose his footing.
52:05And this is going to work out for Louisville.
52:07The clock will run, though, because they're out of timeouts.
52:16I don't know why they stopped the clock right there.
52:20Game clock operator, please reset the game clock to 1.07.
52:24Play clock operator, reset the clock to 35 seconds.
52:28Both clocks are starting my signal.
52:30Okay.
52:31I think they had a play clock error right there issue.
52:33So they're going to reset the game clock to 1.07,
52:36play clock to 35, and then they'll both run.
52:39What are we doing?
52:41What are we doing?
52:43But this benefits.
52:45What's going on?
52:46What are we doing?
52:46It does.
52:47Play clock didn't run.
52:49The winner was supposed to.
52:50So we reset both clocks up
52:52so that they got the right amount of time on goal.
52:54So they'll run all the way down to 25.
52:57This is going to go to 25.
52:58Okay.
53:01There was no timeout.
53:02Hey, 10, 10.
53:05So Louisville going to get the ball back down by 2.
53:11This is the first punt of the night for Birmingham.
53:26I'll tell you, this Birmingham team, over the years,
53:29they've been so good defensively, haven't they?
53:32And they've been opportunistic.
53:33That was the first drive of the game.
53:34They get the turnover.
53:35This was right before the half.
53:37Tozzino pops the ball out right in front of the goal line.
53:41That prevents a score.
53:42And then on that last possession,
53:44field goal would have won it for Louisville.
53:47And Bean just makes a poor throw,
53:49and they were able to step in front for an interception.
53:51So opportunistic, three takeaways,
53:53only 13 points allowed,
53:55and only 46 rush yards allowed.
53:58They've been good up front.
54:00Now an opportunity,
54:01but you've got to get this punt away.
54:03That's first and foremost.
54:08Toby Rodman on the punt.
54:14His first punt of the night,
54:15they need it to be a good one.
54:17And they need the defense to make one more stop,
54:20holding on to a two-point edge.
54:23Clean snap.
54:28And that one bounces out of bounds,
54:31and it's going to be good field position
54:32to start here for Louisville.
54:36Only 31 yards on that punt.
54:38Okay, so again,
54:39you look at the range right now,
54:42and you look at Tanner Brown,
54:43I told you 52 is his career long,
54:45going back to his career at Oklahoma State in college.
54:49You only need to get that ball to about the 35-yard line,
54:52and with the wind as it is,
54:53and this is into their face.
54:55Probably a little bit more than that,
54:57so you're looking to get the ball to about the 33-32
55:01to be on the edge of field goal range.
55:03Roy Fleck, 76, big man out.
55:06Hey, 76, 76, 76, 76, 76.
55:11That's about 25 yards or so.
55:13Yeah, and as a quarterback here,
55:14remember the clock would stop if you get a first down,
55:16so you can still work the middle of the field,
55:18but only if you throw it past the chains.
55:20Other than that,
55:20you've got to work outside of the numbers.
55:24Down by two.
55:26Blue and eight, blue and eight, huh?
55:31B, Scrammel, chased, oh, tripped up.
55:35Once again, this Birmingham defense comes up big.
55:38Isaiah Greenmay with the sack.
55:42They're going to be offside if they don't get this.
55:47And Birmingham called a timeout because of that.
55:50A.J. McCarron had to take a timeout
55:52because of the celebration happening with his defensive line.
55:57Second charge timeout of the half.
55:59Birmingham, 30 seconds in lead.
56:03They started taking off the wrong direction in a celebration.
56:07Let's see what he does here in a coaching moment.
56:11It's not about us, right?
56:14The game should be over.
56:15It's not about us.
56:16My bad, folks.
56:18My bad.
56:21I mean, what a mistake right there by Isaiah Greenmay.
56:30And so Louisville lives for one more play.
56:33And by the way, for a first-time head coach,
56:36that was a very alert decision to take that timeout right there
56:40and not take the penalty
56:41because that would move him obviously five yards closer
56:43and create an easier opportunity for Louisville.
56:47So there's most likely the final play of the game
56:50unless it's a defensive penalty.
56:51Three-man pressure being underneath the hook and ladder
56:58and it will not be successful, but Birmingham is.
57:04They go on the road and fight to the finish.
57:07A.J. McCarron gets his first victory
57:10in his first game as a head coach
57:12and Birmingham starts the season with a 15-13 win.
57:24What a game, dude.
57:25Thank you.
57:25Congratulations, my first one.
57:26Good luck to you, brother.
57:27Yeah, you too, brother.
57:27Great game.
57:28Great game.
57:28Great game.
57:30Great game.
57:31Great game.
57:31Hey, good job, man.
57:32Good job.
57:33Woo!
57:36Well, it was a fun game to watch.
57:4015-13.
57:41Birmingham gets the win.
57:42We saw some big offensive plays,
57:44some key defensive stops,
57:46and a whole lot more.
57:47Don't go anywhere.
57:48We'll be right back.
57:51Well, over 300 yards of offense,
57:53more than 100 yards rushing,
57:55and three turnovers.
57:57That's how you get your first win as a head coach.
57:59A.J. McCarron with Jake Buck.
58:04All right, A.J., you told me you might have aged a few years
58:06to close out the game,
58:08but you got your first win as a head coach.
58:09How's it feel?
58:10Oh, it feels awesome.
58:11Just super proud of our guys.
58:13Listen, we didn't play perfect,
58:15but I have a resilient bunch in that locker room,
58:19and the way they played for me and each other,
58:24I'm just super proud.
58:25Yeah, the offense was able to run the ball.
58:27You're able to control the game,
58:28but really it was the defensive turnovers
58:30in key situations that ultimately decided this game.
58:33What do you see from that unit?
58:34I mean, unbelievable job.
58:35Cher, great job of calling the game,
58:38but it's just the fact that there's never any quit
58:42in this group, and I love that.
58:45I mean, all the way down to the goal line,
58:46and you punch a ball out as they're going in
58:48and recovered by Tez, like, unbelievable job.
58:52First win as a pro coach.
58:54I mean, how's it feel?
58:55Oh, it feels awesome.
58:56Listen, but it's only one.
58:58Our biggest thing is worry about the process.
59:00Don't worry about the results.
59:02Can't think ahead.
59:03Be where your feet are.
59:04I thought we did a great job of that tonight,
59:06and we'll start all over again next week.
59:09How would Saban grade the coaching job?
59:11I don't know.
59:12Somebody had to hit him up.
59:13All right, man.
59:14Thank you, and congratulations.
59:15We'll see you.
59:16Something tells me he's got his number.
59:18I'll hit him up.
59:19He's definitely proud,
59:20and I think he's going to give his highest marks
59:22on that answer at the end.
59:23Those were some Sabanisms right there.
59:26And so Birmingham starts the season with a victory.
59:29Welcome to the 2026 UFL campaign.
59:32Glad to have you with us.
59:34We'll see you again tomorrow for Dallas and Houston
59:36at 4 o'clock right here on Fox.
59:41We'll see you again tomorrow for Dallas and Houston
