02:08Jason Bean is a dual threat guy that has big playability, and he was in a very creative

02:19thrived, and this is a guy that can put up big numbers.
02:23What I'm interested in is just with all this newness, Bean is his first time in the league.
02:28You know, you've got a first-time head coach in Chris Redmond.
02:30It's just the whole operation.
02:32How clean is Louisville going to come out here and operate on their first series?
02:45Well, I tell you, I'm excited for a lot of these guys.
02:49Benny Snell is certainly one of them.
02:51He played at Kentucky, and he's a really good player.
02:53Caden Prather is a guy that's had success in the spring ball defensively.
02:58He's a guy that has been in really the top three, four in the league in tackles in spring
03:03football, and Tate Crowder is all over the field.
03:05Crowder is a guy I've always been impressed with, his speed, and Kurt, he is a side-to-side
03:10monster.
03:12Birmingham strong on defense, a lot of returning veterans.
03:14They fake the handoff.
03:16Bean keeps it and shows that athletic ability you talked about there, picking up the first
03:21down, Joel.
03:21Yeah, I love this, and getting him an opportunity to run the football here early in this game,
03:25get his feet wet, and he's just going to read this defensive end, this end man on the
03:29line of scrimmage right here, and as he sees him crash down, now he's going to take off
03:33on the left side, and it's perfect, good block on the exterior.
03:37That was Tariq Black, the wide receiver.
03:39He comes in from the inside, and he gets a block, and that's what allowed Bean to get
03:43the edge and pick up a first down.

04:05Yeah, good pressure by that defensive line, and Bean was able to escape it, and just tried
04:09to get to a check down, just off the mark here, but when you think about this first series,
04:14you saw that quarterback run, and that zone read, I'm sure they're going to go back to
04:19that, they've probably got, what, 10 or 15 scripted plays, they're going to try to
04:23show Birmingham a lot of different formations, and this is a big feeling out process, with
04:28all of this newness on each staff, you're trying to figure out what are you going to
04:32do schematically on each side of the ball, so right now, you're doing a lot of kind of
04:36feeling out in this game.
04:38Snell with the carry, hitting the backfield, fights his way for a short game, but it's
04:43going to bring up third down.
04:44All right, so here we go on the third down.
04:46Now, it's your first opportunity as a quarterback to step in there and really make a throw.
04:50You got third and obvious is what I would call it, third and eight.
04:53A safe call would be a screen in this situation, but at some point as a quarterback, you've got
04:58to step in there and find the rhythm of the game, and that's certainly
05:02going to be his challenge here.

05:47Bean can't find anybody down the field, and he dumps it off to his tight end.
05:51And it hits his hands, his helmet, then his hands a couple of different times, and then
05:55there's the pick for Birmingham.
05:56And that's one thing that Birmingham has been every single year, and that's opportunistic
06:01on the defensive side of the football.
06:02It's been one of the reasons why they've been so successful.
06:05Remember, three championships out of four years.
06:07Last year, deep into the playoffs.
06:09And here the defense starts out exactly where they ended the last few years, which is being
06:14opportunistic, taking that football away.
06:17And so they take it over here.
06:20Great field position, and right away out of the gate.
06:24Snoop Conner with the run, and picks up a short gain of about two yards on the play.
06:30Well, Matt Corral is a guy that's had a lot of success in this league, and he's a really
06:34talented player, there's no doubt.
06:35He can also use his legs, although I don't think they'll try to feature him as a runner
06:40as much as maybe Louisville will do with Jason Bean.
06:42But one of the things that he has at his disposal is a very talented wide receiver core.
06:47These guys can run, they've got big frames, and he's got some weapons out there on the
06:51outside.
06:52In his third season with Birmingham, and there's a flag on the play, movement before the snap.

07:03Offense, number eight, five-yard penalty, second down.
07:06That's on the wide receiver, Deion Kane, backs him up a little bit.
07:09Who should we keep our eye on, Joe?
07:10Well, again, I keep talking about some of these wide receivers, but they've also got
07:14a back that comes in from San Antonio.
07:16Anthony McFarlane was one of the best backs in the UFL a year ago.
07:19He's been hampered by some injuries.
07:21Deion Kane on the outside, he can fly.
07:23And watch out for Travis Bell in the interior of that defensive line for Louisville.

07:30Right over the middle, open receiver, right down the sideline, Jadon Mickens.
07:37This is a great read by Matt Corral.
07:39He's going to see a safety jump right out of this defensive front, and he's going to get
07:43a little width.
07:44As soon as that happened, you've been right on the interior of that.
07:46A beautiful throw in Reed, and you can just see the feel for the game as Mickens, he senses
07:52the space and the seam, and Corral is able to find him for a big game.

08:28And now A.J. McCarron comes in, so a little bit of a different operation here as the first-time
08:32head coach is a bit more of a CEO role here, not taking charge of the play calling.

10:29They bring the motion down, and what that does, it brings the defense inside.

10:34They're in man coverage, so the corner is just trying to defend the wide receiver.
10:38That's a great deep crowd.
10:39He takes him to the back of the end zone.
10:40Nobody on the outside, and there's the leap.
10:43Snoop Conner is able to get right inside that pylon for a touchdown.
10:47Great series here for Birmingham to open things up after the turnover.
10:52Took advantage of the short field.
10:54Conner gets the touchdown, and you can go for one, two, or three.
10:58They're going to kick it for a traditional extra point, but they miss it.
11:02And so Garibay can't convert, but Conner put the stallions on the board.
11:08After the interception, they gave them the ball at the 43-yard line.

11:28Five of the existing teams still around, but everybody has a new head coach,
11:34including Anthony Beck, who used to be in St. Louis, but now with the Orlando Storm,

11:43You've got some of these new markets here.

12:21Here's some of the notable rule changes.
12:23Well, we got a four-point field goal.
12:25Ladies and gentlemen, and we, everyone should adopt this.
12:29You kick it from 60-plus, that's going to result in four points.
12:32And then I think the one that's going to impact the game more than any other,
12:35the punting rule.
12:36There are no punts allowed after crossing the 50-yard line
12:39except in the final two minutes of each half.
12:41So that's going to be a huge difference,
12:44and it's going to, I think, really change the strategy of how plays are called.
12:48Receptions are one-footed bound, so that's going to be similar to the college rule.
12:51So just a few little quirks and changes to what we've got.
12:54But, again, that no-punt rule after crossing the 50,
12:57Kurt, that one's going to be a big one.
12:59They're on first down.
13:00They get it back out, and that's Davidson catches it this time.
13:04And the big tight end lowers the shoulder,
13:06maybe a little aggression after knowing he had the mistake on that opening possession.
13:10I was going to say, go right back to him.
13:12And, Jake, as a former tight end,
13:13you've got to love the opportunity to go right back out there
13:16and get a catch after that drop led to an interception.
