00:00Welcome to Verify News Global, according to the Martin County Sheriff's Office.
00:04Tiger Woods was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI on Friday,
00:08following a rollover accident near his residence in Florida.
00:11Officials from the police say that just before 2 o'clock on Beach Road on Jupert Island,
00:17E.T. Woods attempted to pass a work truck while driving a high-speed Range Rover.
00:22Woods' SUV flipped over onto its side after colliding with the truck's trailer at the back.
00:26Near 281 Beach Road, approximately 4 miles north of Woods' house, the accident occurred.
00:33The sheriff's office says that Woods was unharmed and was able to get out of the SUV on his own.
00:39Officers on the scene said that Woods did exemplify signs of impairment,
00:43according to Marin County Sheriff John Budenseek.
00:46The investigation started, and initially right off the top,
00:49it did appear that the driver of the Land Rover might be impaired.
00:52And at that point, the chief of Jupiter Island Police Department called me from the Martin County Sheriff's Office
00:58and asked for our assistance.
01:01The investigation revealed that the pickup truck slowed as it attempted to turn into a driveway on Beach Road.
01:07The pickup truck driver saw a Range Rover approaching at high speed and tried to get off the road,
01:12but the residential street's narrowness prevented him from doing so.
01:16The Range Rover landed on the driver's side after it hit the trailer's back end.
01:20Mr. was identified as the driver of that Land Rover after he managed to get out through the passenger door.
01:26Tiger Woods, Budenseek said,
01:29Our DUI investigators arrived at this location, and Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment.
01:35Officers didn't think Woods was under the influence of alcohol.
01:39Instead, they thought he was taking prescription drugs or medications.
01:43After all, Woods did take a breathalyzer test, which showed a reading of 0.00.
01:49On the scene, Woods was described as lethargic and attempted to explain his injuries and surgeries in recent months.
01:57After passing roadside tests, Woods was arrested and charged with DUI,
02:02causing damage to property and refusing to take a legal test.
02:05Woods was transported to the Martin County Jail.
02:08At the jail, he turned down a urinalysis test, Budenseek stated.
02:14He cooperated with the breathalyzer, and then the urine he wanted no part of.
02:19He is cooperative, but he was not trying to incriminate himself, Budenseek said.
02:24Because of this, he was cautious in what he said and didn't say.
02:29After his arrest, Woods was required to serve at least eight hours in the Martin County Jail under Florida law,
02:35before being granted bail.
02:37Neither Woods nor the driver of the pickup were injured,
02:40and police officers did not observe medication in Woods' vehicle.
02:44Before the arrival of law enforcement, Woods, who was driving by himself,
02:49got out of the vehicle from the passenger side.
02:51Although the Martin County Sheriff's Office did not have exact figures
02:54on how fast Woods was going when he overtook the pickup truck,
02:57the speed was significant given that the area has a 30 miles per hour speed limit,
03:02and that Woods' car sustained significant damage.
03:05Budenseek stated,
03:07We know we arrested a high-profile figure.
03:09It doesn't matter who you are, and I'm not trying to overstate the situation.
03:13If you break the law, we're going to follow the law.
03:16That's a really easy path to take.
03:19Budenseek added, however,
03:21that Woods will be safeguarded in jail.
03:23He stated,
03:25We're going to make sure he's safe as far as being in the jail.
03:28We will not include him in the general population.
03:31He's not going to be with other inmates that can hurt him or try to capitalize on what he did.
03:37He'll pay the price.
03:38But he's not going to pay the price by getting punished in jail.
03:42Budenseek noted that,
03:43fortunately,
03:44there were no vehicles on the roadside opposite Woods' accident.
03:48He stated,
03:49We would not be having a conversation saying there were no injuries if someone had moved in the opposite direction.
03:55This could have been a lot worse.
03:58On Tuesday,
03:59Woods competed in the TGL Indoor Golf Final,
04:02whereas Jupiter Lynx Golf Club failed to advance.
04:05This marked Woods' return professional golf.
04:08After undergoing surgery to replace a lumbar disc in October and a ruptured Achilles in March 2025,
04:15this was Woods' first game of competitive golf since the 2024 Open Championship,
04:19prior to Friday's accident.
04:21The question surrounding Woods as the calendar edges toward April was his status for next month's Masters.
04:27He had not said one way or the other if he will compete.
04:31President Donald Trump stated in an interview Thursday that Tiger Woods would not participate in the Masters,
04:36which begins on April 9th.
04:39Trump stated,
04:40I love Tiger,
04:41but he won't be there.
04:43Well,
04:44he will be there,
04:45but he will not participate in the game.
04:48Trump stated,
04:48I feel so badly on Friday when he was informed of the accident.
04:53That's all I know about the accident.
04:55A very close friend of mine.
04:57He is an incredible individual and man,
05:00but there are challenges.
05:02In 2021,
05:03Woods was involved in a Los Angeles single car rollover accident
05:07that left him with a broken ankle and two broken legs.
05:10In 2017,
05:11during a traffic stop in Florida,
05:13he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
05:17In police dash cam footage,
05:19he appeared disoriented and woozy during the stop.
05:22After pleading guilty to reckless driving and receiving a year of probation,
05:27Woods claimed that the incident was a result of an unexpected reaction to prescribed medication.
05:32that's a disaster of the الع最近 Гэпп,
05:32that's a small production of McCarthy it should be deeply equitable on anybody.
