00:02Are we good?
00:05Our investigation revealed as follows.
00:08Shortly again before 2, the pressure cleaner truck, truck pulling a trailer, a small trailer,
00:14was northbound on South Beach Road and was pulling kind of to turn into a driveway.
00:21It was slowing down, starting to turn into a driveway.
00:23And the driver of that vehicle looked in his mirror and saw a Land Rover, a dark-colored Land Rover,
00:30overtaking him at high speeds, and I don't know those speeds.
00:33The Land Rover kept overtaking him.
00:36He saw it coming, so he tried to edge off to the side of the road, but this is a
00:40small two-lane road,
00:42and there was no shoulder for this pressure cleaner gentleman to get off the side of the road.
00:50As he was trying to move to the side of the road, the Land Rover overtook him at the last
00:55minute,
00:56swerved to avoid a collision, but clipped the back end of the trailer of the pressure cleaner apparatus,
01:03listed to the side, and then rolled on the driver's door north past the truck that had just avoided the
01:10crash wheel.
01:12The individual driving that Land Rover was able to crawl out the passenger door of the car
01:16and was identified to be Mr. Tiger Woods.
01:20Our DUI investigators came to the scene here, and Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment.
01:27They did several tests on him.
01:30Of course, he did explain the injuries and the surgeries that he had.
01:33We did take that into account.
01:34But they did do some in-depth roadside tests, and when it was determined, he was placed under arrest
01:41and taken to the Martin County Jail.
01:43At the Martin County Jail, and even on scene, we really weren't suspicious of alcohol being involved in this case,
01:50and that proved to be true at the jail.
01:52So Mr. Woods did a breathalyzer test, blew triple zeros,
01:55but when it came time for us to ask for a urinalysis test, he refused,
02:00and so he's been charged with DUI, with property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test.
02:07In the crash, no one was injured.
02:09Mr. Woods did not seem to be injured at all, and the other gentlemen were not injured.
02:14He is cooperative, but he was not trying to incriminate himself.
02:17So he was careful in what he said and didn't say,
02:20and when it came time again for the test, the urine test at the jail, he stopped that.
02:25Let me go back to one thing.
02:26There is a Florida State statute that requires us to keep people incarcerated for at least eight hours post a
02:32DUI arrest.
02:33So he's in our jail.
02:34He will be there for at least eight hours from 3 o'clock for at least eight hours,
02:39and then he'll be released on bond if you post bond.
02:42On scene, we had DRE experts evaluating him,
02:47and they believed from on scene that he was not impaired on alcohol.
02:50They believed it was some type of medication or drug.
02:52And again, at the jail, he cooperated with the urine,
02:55or I'm sorry, he cooperated with the breathalyzer,
02:57and then the urine he wanted no part of.
03:00He has a right to refuse that test.
03:03There is a Florida statute, which he will be charged with,
03:06for refusing to take that test,
03:08but we will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on at the time of the crash.
03:14The question is, is it a felony?
03:16The answer is no.
03:17Both charges are misdemeanor charges.
03:18Is he being given preferential treatment in the jail because of who he is?
03:23The question is, is he getting preferential treatment in the jail because of who he is?
03:26Let me go back to the simplicity of this.
03:29We're the sheriff's office.
03:30We know we arrested a high-profile figure.
03:32I'm not trying to dramatize,
03:33but it doesn't matter who you are.
03:35If you break the law, we're going to follow the law.
03:37That's a really easy path to take.
03:38Now, as far as being in the jail, we're going to make sure he's safe.
03:41We're not going to put him in general population.
03:42He's not going to be with other inmates that could hurt him
03:44or try to capitalize on what he did.
03:47He'll pay the price,
03:48but he's not going to pay the price by getting punished in jail.
03:52Thank you all.
