00:04how what is your relationship with a walk to remember and like how did y'all's music become
00:09so integral to that it all started with our friend in high school my friend mia who is on
00:15the surf team with us they yes it is a team sport for new yorkers i know i was like
00:22what does that
00:23mean i just nodded yeah um and we all you know graduate high school go our separate ways she
00:28gets an internship with a manager up in la and he is mandy's uh manager and he's looking for music
00:39and she's she's like i never do this but i feel like you need to hear my friend's band and
00:47that was
00:49uh decades ago yeah so he he plays it for mandy and she loved uh the song only hope wanted
00:55to sing it
00:56and then uh they just kind of kept adding more switchfoot songs and so i think we ended up with
01:02like five like the entire album yeah basically yeah that was like our goodwill hunting like to have
01:09a full soundtrack takeover like that you know like that's how we discovered elliot smith or at least i
01:14did oh yes um and so that was kind of like the way i thought about it at the time
01:19i was like wow
01:19maybe like someone's discovering our music the way we discovered elliot smith through this movie we just
01:25didn't have any concept of kind of what that movie was doing around the world oh so we immediately
01:31went back into the studio to make our last album we were like okay well it's been it's been fun
01:37you
01:37know and um we made uh an album called the beautiful letdown yeah uh on our own independently and then
01:44you know that kind of got signed to a major label and meanwhile this movie was still kind of having
01:51this
01:51life and so week one when uh the beautiful letdown came out and meant to live was the first single
01:58it kind of had this big moment that we were completely unprepared for and and here we are
