00:00A powerful tropical cyclone in Western Australia has disrupted production at some of the country's largest LNG facilities,
00:08deepening a global supply crunch already strained by conflict in the Middle East.
00:13The outages come as Australia steps up as a key supplier after Qatar, the world's top LNG exporter,
00:20shut down production earlier this month following damage from Iranian strikes.
00:27Chevron says it is working to restore operations at two of its plants after tropical cyclone Narelle made landfall on
00:34Friday.
00:35Meanwhile, Woodside says its gas plant has also been hit by the storm.
00:39The disruptions in Australia represent more than 8% of global LNG supply, at a time when Qatari output remains
00:47offline.
00:47Most of that gas is destined for Asia, including Japan, China, South Korea, Taiwan and India,
00:55raising concerns about tighter energy markets in the weeks ahead.
00:58Global LNG flows out of the Middle East have also been upended by Iran's blockage of the Strait of Hormuz.
