00:01Ah!
00:02Previously...
00:03Are you not going to let the boys tie it on?
00:04I've still got to move everything, man.
00:07Ah!
00:08We're going to have to make some changes here.
00:10There he is.
00:11There you go, mate.
00:12It's going to make it a hell of a lot easier.
00:15The winter lobster hunting season is underway.
00:18It is a good-looking fish, aren't it?
00:20Risking it all in pursuit of the world's most prized
00:24seafood delicacy is a fleet of young gun lobster men
00:28and a crafty old sea dog.
00:31We're in, baby! We're in!
00:32Let's go!
00:34An Aussie lobster legend.
00:36Yeah, baby.
00:37That's what we're after.
00:40150.
00:41Woo-hoo!
00:42Payday, baby.
00:43Well done, boys.
01:03Close your eyes, and I'm going to tell you a bedtime story.
01:05It's going to go.
01:06Once a man called Bryce, and he grew up around crayfish.
01:11He loved it.
01:12He loved watching all the crayfish, and he loved watching his dad fish.
01:15But his favourite person to watch fish was Squizzy.
01:20Squizzy!
01:21He said, I want to be like Squizzy.
01:23Oh!
01:24He's like Squizzy.
01:25Woo!
01:25I think we're here.
01:26Oh, yeah, we've got to go.
01:27I'll continue that one later.
01:29That was a good story, John.
01:31It's a story of Master versus Apprentice,
01:35but there are more players in this tale than just two.
01:39I'm going to be losing my patience very quickly.
01:42There are three ambitious young guns out here.
01:45Risk versus reward, mate.
01:47All trying to topple Squizzy, the lobster legend,
01:50to become the new king of the Southern Ocean.
01:54I'm pumped.
02:03You all right there, mate?
02:04I nearly threw myself in.
02:05Did you have a good trip?
02:07I yielded that to the moon.
02:09What, love?
02:11The Friars.
02:12Day six at sea.
02:14And Bryce's target for the morning is 100 lobsters.
02:18Thanks, love you lobster.
02:20But it seems the full moon is wreaking havoc
02:23on the chieftain's catch rate.
02:25It's not really happening this morning.
02:26We've only got how many lobsters are in the bin job.
02:29I don't really know how it works,
02:30but the full moon does impact catch rates.
02:34Is that a shark?
02:35That's a shark.
02:36Do you want to hold it?
02:36Yeah.
02:37There you go.
02:38He's trying to bite you.
02:39The full moon definitely brings out all the creatures.
02:41There's some weird stuff goes on during a full moon.
02:44You can have fantastic shots.
02:46You can have horrible shots.
02:48Come here, baby.
02:49Nothing normal happens during a full moon.
02:51Oh, buddy, I'll let you go now.
02:52Thank you for your help.
02:54Thank you for your help.
03:00That full moon, mate.
03:01Yeah.
03:02That's why we're out.
03:04We're f***ing crazy.
03:06A full moon is a double-edged sword,
03:10a soothing light bulb for the weary skipper,
03:12but it also turns on all kinds of predators below.
03:16When the full moon's up, you know, the fish, the fish can just go quiet.
03:20And the octopus love it.
03:22They can see what they're doing down there in and out of your pots,
03:24flat out all night.
03:25We've got a bit of an array in here.
03:27We've got f***ing sharks and we've got octopus.
03:30We've got a f***ing seafood basket, mate.
03:32This is what the ockies do to the crays.
03:35They don't leave much of the poor buggers.
03:37We just lost three kilos of crays there.
03:40So that's probably, you know, that's 300 bucks there.
03:43They're an awesome creature, aren't they, bro?
03:45S***, bruv.
03:47It's probably Jason.
03:48He's on that boat out there.
03:49He had 18 pots dumped by ockies this morning.
03:51F***ing hell.
03:54The giblet.
03:56And the baran is pulling its first shot here for the season.
04:00Jack needs the giblet to deliver.
04:03We've left an area where we were fishing by ourselves
04:05and no-one really around.
04:07We've steamed up here, hoping for greener pastures,
04:10and there's actually another couple of boats here,
04:11so I'm hoping they haven't worked where I am already,
04:14you know, because you can't catch the same fish twice.
04:17It does look like a busy little area.
04:19I did notice a few boats about.
04:22Oh, it's not good.
04:24Come on, little snappies, where are you?
04:27Come on, Lobos!
04:28Come on!
04:31Very cold on the home front.
04:34A full moon, a crowded neighbourhood,
04:37and a choppy swell.
04:39The conditions are testing.
04:41We're not getting much today.
04:43Gamble's not paying off at this stage, Johnny.
04:45Where we've got them,
04:46they don't really like a great deal of swell.
04:48So when you're fishing shallow waters like this,
04:50too much movement in the water, a bit too much swell,
04:52the crays hate it.
04:53They'll just sit down there and hold on.
04:54Won't move at all.
04:56Come on!
05:04We're not greedy, Johnny.
05:05We just need a lot more than we're getting, bud.
05:08Oh, I know!
05:09There we go!
05:10It's got my brain going a million miles an hour now.
05:12It's on it.
05:13Think up a game plan, think about what to do.
05:21At Pedra Branca...
05:23Stretch the back around.
05:26Why don't you have to do it?
05:27Are you special or something, Jets?
05:29The crew of The Bold Contender is warming up.
05:32Oh, yeah!
05:34Feel it.
05:35Feel it.
05:36Watch that body.
05:38Watch that body.
05:39Hoping for a bonanza day
05:41for more big, higher-priced lobsters.
05:44This is the new stuff.
05:46Get this party started.
05:52Thanks!
05:54236 lobsters yesterday.
05:55I want to beat that today.
05:56I'm not going to be happy if we get less.
06:07Thanks!
06:08That's a f***ing good pot.
06:11F***ing good.
06:21We're off to a flying start.
06:23Tens and sixes.
06:24Let's keep it going all day
06:25because that'd be f***ing awesome.
06:27Whoop!
06:28Captain Blood in there.
06:29It's got them dialed.
06:30We're making money today.
06:36Oh!
06:39Look out.
06:40The sun's come out.
06:41Look how bald he is.
06:43Balder than me.
06:44Matt, can you see that in the wheelhouse?
06:54Nearly there, Marky.
06:56Nearly there.
06:56The Chieftain crew is hauling in the second half of their night shot.
07:01Oh, I hurt them.
07:03Decky Locky is struggling.
07:06You're hurting.
07:07F***ing you.
07:08Ow.
07:09Locky has a sore testicle.
07:13Basically, I had to get an ultrasound
07:15because I've got a cyst on my testicle
07:17and that's why Jock's out here helping me
07:19because I'm in a lot of pain.
07:20So, yeah, there you go.
07:22The entire world.
07:23You now know about that.
07:26He's done well so far to manage the pain.
07:29F***ing ache.
07:30But five grueling days at sea has taken its toll.
07:34Not feeling too good.
07:36In a bit of pain.
07:39Yeah, it makes it a bit hard.
07:41But that's why we've got Jock out with us at the moment.
07:44Stack that pot up, please, Jock.
07:46Yes.
07:46Chief.
07:48I think it's hard for Locky himself to slow down
07:51and he went too hard and, yeah, you can see he was hurting.
07:56Being a deckhand is very physical.
07:58You're lifting pots multiple times a day,
08:00about 40 kilos each.
08:01You're walking up and down a deck that's moving
08:03and being in pain or being half capacity
08:06like Locky is at the moment, it's very dangerous.
08:09It'd only take one little thing to happen
08:11and he could be in a serious amount of pain
08:12and this could end the whole trip.
08:18It used to be hell on wheels
08:21back when I was a younger man.
08:25I think he's happy now.
08:26He's got someone to order around to tell him what to do.
08:30Team Pyrrha is re-energised.
08:33Rhythm of energy.
08:34Rhythm of energy.
08:35Rhythm of energy.
08:37Rhythm of energy.
08:40Rhythm of energy.
08:47Question is, how long can it last?
08:51These guys have worked together before. Cody, he's a great young guy. He's a really nice fella and he's really
08:59enthusiastic. He loves fishing.
09:01Still 100%, brother. I think I've made the right decision to be honest, so I'm happy.
09:09Do whatever a spot of people want.
09:11Hey, it's more energy this morning. Cody here. Haven't had to do much. I almost feel lazy. I feel like
09:18I'm robbing miles.
09:20I'm going to try to keep you cool this trip out your corridor. Unless you broke fish over the side.
09:25Try to keep cool? Famous last words. But can Timmy really do that? Stay calm as a new duo under
09:35pressure.
09:35Tim and Cody have done great trips together. And they've had a bit of history. I mean, I think Cody
09:42sort of struggles to listen to Tim at times.
09:45And Tim gets really frustrated quite easy.
09:48Me and Timmy have had our ups and downs, that's for sure.
09:51I know you're living in close quarters together constantly. You're going to have a crack at each other.
09:58Me and Timmy both don't like to back down. So yeah, we get into a little bit of it.
10:12Look at some of these big ones.
10:15Pedro Branca and Squizzy is fishing 100 metres down, hunting for monster-sized brindles.
10:22The reason I'm fishing deep here at the moment at Pedro is that's the only place we're seeing fish.
10:27We're only getting good pots in the deep water, so that's what we're going to concentrate on for our night
10:31shot and day shot.
10:35You put that on Snug Beach, I reckon.
10:38Caught him on the sand.
10:41Pedro Branca, the casino in the sea, has already paid out some good numbers to Squizzy.
10:47But the bold contender's catch rate is slowing. Is Squizzy's good luck now in reverse?
10:55I'm a little bit disappointed where we are here at the moment because I've made human error.
11:02I didn't allow enough for the tide and they drifted back to the top and I want them down on
11:08the bottom of the ledge.
11:10So I've missed the bottom.
11:12When you fish the deep water and the tide's running, you've got to sort of know what you're doing.
11:17If I drop a pot here and I don't allow for that tide and I'm trying to hit something here,
11:23that pot will end up down here.
11:31I'm going to shoot these pots straight back in the same area because I know, but I think there's some
11:39fish here.
11:40I just stuffed up.
11:45I'm going to shoot them and Gavin's going to have another go.
11:48I'm going to go.
11:51Geez, he was a wanker, wasn't he?
12:01Where are all the pros?
12:03Not here, Johnny.
12:05The Buran boys are down on their luck and burning cash.
12:10If this doesn't work out coming up here, we've just wasted six or seven hundred bucks in diesel.
12:13We don't have that many days to be able to put fish on the boat.
12:17We're not moving forward.
12:20Catching up and really f***ing really drags you out of here.
12:24It is so disheartening.
12:27You f***ed for nothing.
12:31Poor Jackie boys put all the fuel in and all the food and all his knowledge
12:40and it must just f***ing knock the motivation straight out of here.
12:44Well, it does.
12:46Makes your day hard.
12:47Makes everyone's day hard.
12:50And their day is about to get even harder.
12:55Can we see a pot over here somewhere?
12:57There's one right behind us.
13:00Ah, that's the next one.
13:01Jack and Johnny have lost another lobster pot.
13:04It's the second time they've misplaced a pot for the season.
13:08We're down one pot at this stage.
13:09I know where it's meant to be but I just can't seem to find it.
13:12I don't know where the f*** it is.
13:15There should be a pot right in front of us.
13:16If not for some reason, so a bit of a look.
13:20Someone could have steamed through here, run one over.
13:22Johnny might have f***ed and not put the boys on.
13:24Could be a tangle in the line.
13:26Could be a few things.
13:28They don't usually just go missing for no reason.
13:30If we lose the pot, we're looking at 400 bucks, 450 bucks just to replace it.
13:34And if we don't have it, we can't catch fish with it, so...
13:37Can you see any floating rope sort of around us, Johnny?
13:40Four or five days left in this trip.
13:42It could cost us two or three grand's worth of fish
13:44not having that one pot on board.
13:52Look at them.
13:54Delicious!
13:57What's the magic number, Captain?
14:00120.
14:01120.
14:02120.
14:03120 this morning.
14:04That's a good shot out here for a nice shot of Pedro this time of year.
14:08Nice big fish.
14:09Mate, I'm stoked.
14:12That one Jesse's got definitely over two.
14:14This is the f***ing train to eat rice, mate.
14:22Monster lobsters, like these two kilo tractors, are the new target.
14:26They'll fetch over $200 each on the current market.
14:30Yeah!
14:32Woohoo!
14:33Yeah, baby!
14:4226.
14:44Bryce has fallen short of his 100 lobster target.
14:48This morning was just very average.
14:51Like, there was nothing really good about it.
14:52There's one pot of seven here, one pot of seven there.
14:54Blank's all in the middle.
14:56We ended up with 88 total, so it is what it is.
14:59There's worse shots out there.
15:01It just means I need to change up the night's game plan, do something completely different.
15:05Lockie's temporary injury break is not helping things.
15:09You want to shoot gear?
15:13He needs more rest.
15:15The pressure's on Jock to perform.
15:18All right, Jock.
15:19You ready, mate?
15:20The best precaution we can take is just get him off deck.
15:23It's not worth him doing anything.
15:24He just needs to rest.
15:26Jock and I are just going to shoot the gear in.
15:28We're just going to take it slow.
15:30It's time for the baby giraffe to step up.
15:32Stop with the wobbly legs.
15:34It's no time to fall back over.
15:36He needs to really step up.
15:38All right.
15:39See what happens, eh?
15:39It'll be sweet, yeah.
15:40We can only f*** up.
15:49Chuck about an hour with the float.
15:56Went way too early.
15:58No, that's still fine.
16:03Should I get pots or not?
16:04Jock's biggest challenge is going to be remembering
16:07what he's doing at one time.
16:12Jock really is a million miles an hour.
16:14Like, he clearly gets things done.
16:17It's just a matter of where he is now.
16:19We don't need that many things done.
16:22I'm all right if I'm focusing on one thing at a time.
16:25If I'm trying to do two things at once,
16:27that's where I fall apart.
16:28So, just got to stay focused.
16:35Yeah, bro, I'll grab that in a second.
16:37Yeah.
16:37Cook him on.
16:39Team Pira is finally running at full operational efficiency.
16:43Two deckies and two shots a day.
16:45Yeah, you know, Cody is pretty fresh.
16:47He's done a little bit of squid,
16:49and I think he's up to four or five grade trips now.
16:53Tim and Cody have set aside their past grievances.
16:56Yeah, sometimes I get a bit crabby at the poor young fella,
16:59but it's never for no reason.
17:02The question is, how long can the calm last?
17:05We've had a few incidents on here
17:07in the couple of trips we've done already,
17:08so I had a pot come down
17:10and smack me up the side of the leg,
17:14jam it in between the basket.
17:15I guess that's just all learning.
17:20Those floats again, Cody.
17:23One more fish.
17:24One more fish.
17:25Miles' night shot catch rate has slowed down.
17:29Hey, would you better give us a pot count when you're ready, bro?
17:36There's 137.
17:37I mean, look, it's okay.
17:38If we were catching like 160 or something like that,
17:41that would be sort of more where I want to be.
17:43Miles needs his day shot numbers to outperform.
17:47If they don't, he'll relocate to Pedro Branca
17:50to hunt for the higher priced tractors.
17:53And I reckon I'll have a pretty good idea
17:55whether we're going to stay by the end of today
17:57or we're going to go down to Pedro Branca.
17:59Pedro Branca has been good to Squizzy,
18:02but like all casinos, there are winners and losers.
18:06We'll see how the fish come up.
18:08I mean, I know Squizzy's down there.
18:10I know he's staying there, so he must be finding something.
18:12I've just got it in my head that I want to go to Pedro Branca
18:15and I'm sort of trying to look for excuses to just go down there.
18:25Today is officially the shortest day of the year.
18:29And Decky Jock is honouring a winter solstice Tassie ritual.
18:34It's a bit of a Tassie tradition that you guys are swimming in the nude on the solstice.
18:39Mid-winter, water's cold.
18:41Just, I don't know, it's just a Tassie thing now.
18:43So the winter solstice in Tasmania is when you've got the full moon
18:46and the shortest day of the year.
18:48Now, in Hobart, what we do is we all get naked together on a beach,
18:52hundreds of people, and jump in the ocean.
18:54Now, I haven't been a part of that.
18:55I don't think Lachie's been a part of that.
18:57Jock is always a part of that.
18:59As soon as he jumps in the water, I'm going to throw this across ways.
19:01That way, as he drifts back, he'll be able to grab onto something if he needs it.
19:06Worst case, we'll just both jump in after him and leave an unmanned boat.
19:10We're about 12 kilometres offshore, so it's one of the more extreme winter solstice swims I've done,
19:17but we'll go for it.
19:19We're currently situated in the Southern Ocean.
19:21Next stop is Antarctica.
19:23It's about 11 degrees in the water.
19:26Jock's going to jump in naked.
19:27Fortunately, Jock's a very strong swimmer.
19:29It's just a matter of hopefully he doesn't go into shock when he hits the water.
19:33I'm going to ship off here.
19:33OK, we'll face this way then.
19:36All right, no, Jack, let's go!
19:39Go, Jack!
19:46Jock was lit up like a reflector.
19:48He was that white.
19:49I think Jock needs to get out of that office more frequently.
19:51Go, Jocky!
19:55Oh!
19:59Oh, yeah!
20:02Woo!
20:04That was good.
20:06Well done, Jock.
20:08Hello!
20:10I might have any people that will do that willingly, but...
20:14I'm coming through.
20:15Are you ready or not?
20:17That was refreshing.
20:20I feel alive!
20:21Let's go get some love!
20:23You're a weapon, Jock.
20:25You're a weapon.
20:26I don't know anyone else.
20:27You won't even come outside, mate.
20:28No, mate.
20:29Just put some clothes on, mate.
20:31Skin's burning.
20:32Very refreshing.
20:33I feel a bit like a drowned rat, but...
20:35Jock has bigger balls than I think I'll ever have.
20:39Yep.
20:40Yeah, if you can put both of mine together and it'll still be smaller than one of yours,
20:43I reckon.
20:44Nah, that man.
20:46You can tell he's bored and bred in Tassie, that's for sure.
20:48Like, you know when you're naked and then you feel, like, so naked?
20:51You feel so naked coming up the ladder, like...
20:54There really is naked and naked, and he really was the second option.
20:58I felt like a little, like, out of the womb, baby, like...
21:02He's just...
21:04Everyone's looking at him.
21:04Everyone's having a laugh.
21:06Like, you know what I mean?
21:06I feel like him for some time to go next.
21:09It's not your normal naked swivel.
21:12Ahhhh!
21:19Everyone celebrates the solstice differently.
21:22A naked squizzy just won't happen.
21:25Got the nice ones in there.
21:27It's business as usual for the crew of The Bold Contender.
21:32Hey, Miles.
21:34Chapter Squizzle, what's going on?
21:35Are you still down at Pedro?
21:39Uh...
21:39Yep.
21:40Yep.
21:40Yeah, right-o.
21:41We're not getting the numbers we were up there at the Friars.
21:44You know I like it down your way, like, down at Pedro,
21:47but I just, I don't know.
21:48We're catching fish here, so I don't know what I'm going to do, to be honest.
21:51Big gamble to come down here, isn't it?
21:54Yeah.
21:55Yeah.
21:55Takes big balls to leave fish.
21:57I know, and I've done it before, and bloody, you know, run back in my car between my legs.
22:02All right, mate.
22:03We might get into this, so we get these pots in before dark.
22:06Roger, mate.
22:07All right.
22:07Good fishing.
22:10They're all trying to find out how we're going.
22:13You know, a few days ago, when I thought we only had 60, I was doubting meself.
22:17When I was set about, I can't catch a lobster down here, I might try and catch a fisherman.
22:22Well, now I'm catching lobsters down here, I don't want to catch a fisherman.
22:26To be honest, I'm starting to talk too much shit to them.
22:29I don't even know what I have said.
22:32You'd think I would have learnt by now and started writing my bullshit down in a book
22:36so I can remember how much bullshit I'd told so I could try and keep the truth going.
22:41Does that make sense?
22:42I'm starting to confuse myself sitting here right now.
22:45We've got the whole area to ourselves.
22:49And I want to keep it that way.
22:58This is Miles' way of celebrating the winter solstice.
23:02The break will also give him time to contemplate his next move.
23:06I was enjoying a nice lunch.
23:09About an hour and a half break.
23:11Recharge batteries a bit.
23:13He's done it again with his cooking.
23:16What, not enough in there for you?
23:18No, it's just good.
23:20Will Miles press on and go to Pedra Branca?
23:24The place where fortunes are made and lost.
23:29I'm so torn at the moment.
23:31I think it's a good move to go down to Pedra Branca and have a look.
23:35But I hate running away from pitch.
23:38Because there's been plenty of times where I've been down to Pedra Branca and just caught absolutely nothing.
23:46I don't want to say it but I think someone might have been through and cut them off.
23:49Jack and Johnny are looking for a lost pot.
23:53Should be sort of just here off our starved side.
23:57There it is.
23:58You see it?
23:59I can see the rope but it's going to be a nightmare to try and grapple.
24:04Yeah, because it'd just be floating to nothing, wouldn't it?
24:07That's like it's tangled.
24:11Oh, you're on it, bro.
24:13You've actually got it.
24:14Yeah.
24:18Oh, yeah.
24:20So that's how they used to do it back in the day, yeah?
24:22Yeah.
24:23Wax.
24:35Lockie is temporarily out of action.
24:38Jock's now running the deck.
24:40Fingers crossed we're halfway through now.
24:44See what happens.
24:46Lockie needs to rest up and the wheelhouse seems as good a place as any to do that.
24:51Yep.
24:52Even though I might not be feeling very comfortable, I will take this opportunity to learn.
24:58Lockie has gone and got one of his tickets.
25:00He can't drive this boat by himself.
25:02However, we're coming up to a piece of bottom where Lockie can easily shoot the gear in.
25:06It's very easy to look at on the sounder.
25:08You can't really miss.
25:10All yours.
25:11Press zero.
25:14He'll be shooting four pots in.
25:16That's a good enough chance for him to catch maybe five or ten fish.
25:20Shit.
25:21All right.
25:22Yeah, little bitches in there.
25:23We'll see if he can get something out of four pots.
25:26All I want to see him do is what I told him to do and zig-zag up and back
25:31and shoot on one particular ledge.
25:33That's where the fish have been.
25:34So, hand of the reins over to Lockie.
25:36It's the easiest way.
25:37Me in there.
25:38No point.
25:39Just let him do it.
25:41Get a feel for it and we'll find out what he gets out of the next four pots.
25:45No pressure.
25:56Yeah, lobster!
25:59It works, Skippy!
26:01Focus.
26:05Well, Skippy's not messing around.
26:07He wants it.
26:08He wants it.
26:08When you shoot a pot turning to port, don't be turned any more than like ten degrees.
26:15Yeah, I'll turn back up.
26:16Oh, you'll put it in the prop.
26:18It's too cold to swim today.
26:27What's up, mate?
26:28What's up, mate?
26:28Fucking hell.
26:28I've come out on deck for four pots and they're already trying to kill me.
26:32Floats around the neck is my least favourite.
26:35Getting a rope around your neck on deck, especially the floats.
26:38Like, Lockie, I don't know how much attention he's paying, but if I was in there I would have already
26:41slowed down and gone in a reverse sort of thing.
26:43But I swear Lockie sped up at the same time.
26:46Like, that rope started really going out.
26:48It's incredibly dangerous.
26:49I'm going back in the wheel.
26:50That's where I'm safe.
26:51I'm not safe around him, I don't think.
26:54That looks wicked.
26:55Good work, John.
26:56Apart from killing Brasford.
26:58Yeah, but that part doesn't work.
26:59Yeah, we'll see.
27:00You might not need him.
27:07Here we go, Johnny!
27:10I'm a bit sceptical about this day shot that I've chucked in.
27:13The giblet.
27:15And Jack is hoping that today's day shot for Reds is a profitable one.
27:19That their run of poor form turns good.
27:22We took a bit of a gamble by chucking him in on the Reds too, so.
27:25He's a ripper.
27:26He's a ripper!
27:28Red lobsters mostly feed at night in shallower waters around 20 metres below sea level.
27:35The redfish don't really like daylight.
27:37They prefer to move around in the dark.
27:39Whereas brindles, you know, if they're in 100 metres of water, it's a lot darker down there for them.
27:43So they can be active day and night.
27:46Red day fishing is painful and I do it to myself all the time.
27:52I hurt myself emotionally.
27:56No way this doesn't have lobsters in it.
27:58Just seeing where it come from, there's no way it doesn't have lobsters.
28:02Three, two, one.
28:05Blank.
28:10Come off some real juicy looking bottom and...
28:14Blank.
28:18Juicy looking.
28:21I guess at that point, Johnny, sometimes you don't laugh, you cry, I think.
28:25Yeah, I know. You've got to.
28:27Earlier on in the year, we were having some really good numbers down through here where we've shot them.
28:31But there's no fish coming up in the pots, really.
28:34We're struggling to even get a fish a pot here.
28:36It's going to be a pretty average day today.
28:38We've just got to keep the morale up, Johnny.
28:41There's a rainbow over there.
28:44There's a rainbow right for you, mate.
28:46Yeah.
28:47His frog goes in the water.
28:49It's great, mate.
28:50Johnny, if the rainbow's here, where's the pot of gold, mate?
28:53Right in here.
29:01Oh, you f***ing bastard.
29:04There are no rainbows on board the Pierrot.
29:09Jimmy's mood has shifted from jovial to critical.
29:13Bro, look at them.
29:14Look at how you've got them stacked, man.
29:18Oh, that's f***ing hard, eh?
29:20It's just the bottom one.
29:21He's a perfectionist and demands the same from everyone else.
29:26No, do your pot, man.
29:28Tammy and Cody's honeymoon period is officially over.
29:33Is this the start of a marriage made in hell?
29:36We ran out of bait savers.
29:39Where are you, mate?
29:40Is there more stash somewhere?
29:41Well, that's all it's coming from.
29:42Where are you, mate?
29:43I'm f***ing f***ing f***ing f***ing hell.
29:45Tim looks a bit grumpy and pissed off and, look, I don't know whether it's because we've
29:50all picked up Cody or what's going on.
29:52You know, he's got to try and keep a positive attitude because as soon as someone gets a
29:57shitty attitude on the boat, it brings everyone else down.
30:01Miles' marriage advice is good, but will Timmy listen?
30:05I hate it when you do this, Cody.
30:07What am I doing with pots under my feet?
30:11We've still got more to go.
30:12F***ing f***ing.
30:13They should all be over that side of the boat.
30:21I think Tim's getting quite frustrated with Cody.
30:24He reckons Cody's not listening to him, but I think, you know, Tim's just got to sort
30:29of chill out a little bit and, you know, try and explain things a bit better to Cody.
30:33It's not the way to teach someone.
30:35Now, Cody, I'm not being a f***ing man, but you've got to f***ing stack them pots better.
30:40Just watch this.
30:44I was about to put more up against it.
30:46How are you going to put more up against it?
30:48That's no more pots, man.
30:49It's not a question of if, but when will Miles step in?
30:55You know, I'm going to have to try and manage that now.
30:56So now I've got a whole nother bloody thing I've got to do, you know?
31:02That's how f***ing accidents happen.
31:05When people don't listen, three times this, I ask to tell him to stack them in so they
31:10don't wobble.
31:11Grab one pot, look what happens, and they're tied in.
31:18The chieftain, and Lockie's back out on deck.
31:22His pain has eased.
31:24Bryce has reinstated light duties.
31:26He'll need to go easy.
31:28I'm not allowed to grapple, I'm not allowed to lift pots.
31:31I'm just going to take my time, measure crays, bait pots, that's all I'll do.
31:35I can't fathom just staying down there and not doing anything, because this is what I
31:39love to do, this is what I live for.
31:41And plus, I shot some pots in.
31:43I want to see what's in them.
31:44I've got to beat Bryce.
31:45I've got to get the best pot of the day.
31:48This afternoon, all I need is Lockie to be the brain and Jock to be the muscle.
31:51That's it.
31:52Nice and simple.
31:52Ready, Jockies?
31:54No.
31:55What's the worst that can happen?
31:56Hit Bryce in the head with a set of plates?
31:58It's already happened.
32:00Oh, this is your time to shine.
32:01You've got to grapple every pot.
32:04So this will be Jock's first time to grapple all the gear.
32:08It's 52 pots, he's got to grapple it 52 times.
32:11Jesus Christ, I can just pick this up with my hand.
32:13You want to throw it earlier.
32:14Yeah, I do.
32:15Wow.
32:16He's got a circle of shame.
32:20Are you Jockies?
32:21That's Jockies.
32:22Throw it.
32:24Beautiful.
32:24Pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull, pull.
32:27You're lucky.
32:28No.
32:30What?
32:31You've got to pull fast, man.
32:33Yeah.
32:33Oh, Jock.
32:36This thing with the grapple is, it is incredibly frustrating because it's the boat stopping.
32:41We're not in gear anymore.
32:42We've come to a complete standstill.
32:45This is stressful.
32:47You've got this boat.
32:48I'm stressing.
32:49You really are wasting a lot of the day.
32:53Oh, maybe.
32:55Not.
32:55Oh, no.
32:58Oh, the shame.
33:00We just lost like 30 minutes because of that.
33:0330 minutes.
33:05Help.
33:06Help.
33:07Someone help.
33:08I think you probably should just stick to your day job.
33:10Okay.
33:15Oh, yeah.
33:17Oh, yeah.
33:17Oh, yeah.
33:19Oh, yeah.
33:21Oh, yeah.
33:21Oh, yeah.
33:38Like a nine.
33:40Thanks for the nine, Rhino.
33:42Big dogs definitely come out in the daytime.
33:45Some of the pots yesterday hit the top.
33:47They were blank.
33:48And today, I shot them all to hit the bottom of the ledge.
33:54And guess what?
33:55Bingo, baby.
33:59All right in, bro.
34:00Yeah.
34:01Over a kilo.
34:04Beautiful.
34:08This is why I love fishing.
34:10It's just this feeling you get right here, right now.
34:14Everything's paid off.
34:15Your experience has paid off.
34:17That's a nice pot.
34:18It's like a drug.
34:20Outside on the outside, a big one.
34:22On the big one still.
34:24Yeah, Rhino.
34:27Donkeys, mate.
34:29Suck on that.
34:30This is why I love being a lobster fisherman.
34:33Yeah.
34:36That's a big fish.
34:38Yeah, baby.
34:45Hey, do you want to do the final count here?
34:51How did you go?
34:52Yeah, I got 137.
34:55That's exactly right.
34:55It's the exact same as our night shot.
34:57We got 137 for our day shot.
35:01So it's the exact same as what we got for our night shot.
35:03Oh, well, it didn't do quite as well as I thought we would have done on the day shot.
35:08You know, the way this crate price is and the way it's sort of looking, I think it's
35:12definitely worth going down to Pedro Brank for a look.
35:14Yeah, so, yeah, we're just going to pull this gear in the morning and we're going straight
35:16to Pedro.
35:17Yeah.
35:18Yeah, so we'll get down there for a day shot in the morning and, yeah, we'll get up our
35:212.30 and we'll just get going.
35:23It's crazy.
35:24What's going on there, man?
35:27Every time we shoot, man, I tell you.
35:30Yep.
35:30Same shit over and over and over and over.
35:34I'm getting shitty again.
35:35So what's next to you guys?
35:36You're not listening to you anymore?
35:38Nah.
35:38The only last trip I've done that is the same thing.
35:40Wouldn't listen.
35:41Doing them pots and I got hurt.
35:43Happens again.
35:43I'm getting hurt.
35:45Yeah.
35:46Seems Timmy's potty mouth has context.
35:48It's all about OH&S and personal safety.
35:53Oh, f***ing sakes, man.
35:58F***ing dickhead.
35:59Oh, shit.
36:01It's sort of been building up throughout the day, but I can see Tim's getting really frustrated.
36:04I swear to f***ing God you try to make my job harder.
36:08And I just don't want them to have a big blowout.
36:10Because it's happened before a lot.
36:11I'm f***ing tired.
36:12I don't have the rope doing a f***ing figure eight around the pots.
36:15It's gotten to the point a few times where I've nearly had to go back in because of it.
36:20What the f*** did you just pull all them out for?
36:22Right.
36:23What do you want me to do?
36:25Stop laughing and just say.
36:26I'm not f***ing laughing, man.
36:27I'm dropping my head.
36:28You've just pulled all them f***ing floats out of there like that.
36:31Look, if someone throws a punch or if it comes to that, they're instantly vod.
36:37It'll be f***ing literally lying up there, man.
36:39It's very disrespectful.
36:40I don't know what the f*** in there.
36:43Somehow he's managed to pull floats out from f***ing halfway down the f***ing float.
36:47Is there a pot over the side now?
36:49No, that's this one.
36:50Oh, that's tied on.
36:52Yeah.
36:52Yeah, but these set of floats with this rope.
36:55I don't know what's happening, man, but just ripped all them ropes out of that float bin.
37:00If this issue gets worse between Tim and Cody and I've got to go drop one of them off,
37:07that's probably a 12-hour turnaround, really.
37:10F***ing.
37:11No, I don't want to get...
37:12Close to $1,000 worth of diesel.
37:15Missed fishing time.
37:17Just hang on a second.
37:18Concentrate on this one.
37:20It's...
37:20Oh, my God.
37:24F***ing hell.
37:25It's just sort of going to turn our whole trip into a bit of a disaster, really.
37:31Before you pull anything else out, just wait.
37:33Well, I had to pull those out to get to these ones anyway.
37:36Just telling you, just wait.
37:38Grabbing the top one.
37:38Until I get the next pot up and run the float line out.
37:42F***ing hit me with one of them pots and see what happens.
37:44I'm f***ing telling you.
37:44I'm not trying to hit him.
37:45F***ing hit me with his f***ing more, mate.
37:47Alright.
37:48Timmy's at his wits end.
37:50He's had enough.
37:53Should've jumped off when we was in Dover.
37:57Are you excited to see how your pots went?
37:59Yeah.
37:59Are we going to hit a hundred?
38:01Uh, maybe.
38:02That's a size one.
38:03The Chieftain is pulling the last four pots of its day shot.
38:06They're your pots coming up last, mate.
38:08Yeah.
38:09Hopefully we get some lots out of them.
38:11Don't move the f***ing pot.
38:12Don't lift.
38:13Don't miss.
38:13Let's go.
38:17Good work, Jocky.
38:19Come on, Lucky.
38:20I'm excited.
38:22Fingers crossed.
38:23Oh, she feels heavy.
38:27Come on, Lucky.
38:30Come on, Lucky.
38:30Get the fruits of your labour.
38:31Come on, Lucky.
38:33Come on, Lucky.
38:37Get the fruits of your labour.
38:43And it's called a shark too.
38:45How many out of your first pot, Lucky?
38:47None out of that one.
38:48But there was craze in it, so I was doing something right.
38:51Craze in it, mate.
38:52Craze in it.
38:53We're on Lucky's second pot now.
38:55There's Lucky's pot coming out.
38:57First one.
38:57We had a zero.
38:59Hey!
39:00Got one.
39:01Well done, Lockster.
39:02First lobster for the Lockster.
39:04Got two out of that one, Jock.
39:05Woo!
39:06Two's definitely better than none.
39:08He's getting there.
39:09Dinner, Doc.
39:10A few lobs.
39:11Got three out of that one.
39:13Three!
39:15Three's better than two.
39:16He's getting there again.
39:18More than a fish pot.
39:19Woo!
39:20Last pot.
39:20My last pot, Jocky.
39:25See, Carla.
39:26This could change it all.
39:27Yeah!
39:27It's a lobster!
39:29It's a lobster!
39:30It's a lobster!
39:30Can't catch a lobster.
39:33This is the fourth pot.
39:34Now, the last three, I've pulled five-sized ones out,
39:37which, judging from how I've been going, is actually quite good.
39:40That's one of you.
39:41All right, these four.
39:42Woo-hoo!
39:43What's this one?
39:44Five!
39:45Yeah!
39:46He's going to talk so much shit later.
39:48He's got five.
39:49He won't stop nagging for shots now.
39:51He won't stop.
39:52He will.
39:52Carry on.
39:53Let me shoot the gear.
39:54Let me shoot all the gear.
39:55Ten out of four pots, mate.
39:57He's so proud.
39:58You know what?
39:59Without my last four pots, we wouldn't have hit a hundred, I don't think.
40:02Team Cheapton has landed 197 lobsters for the day.
40:07But will it be enough to keep them at the top of the tally board?
40:12Jack's shocker of the day means he's in fourth place on 509 lobsters.
40:17Miles remains in third place on 1,107 lobsters.
40:23Bryce is in second place with 1,124.
40:27And Squeezy's big Petrobranca move has paid off big time.
40:33The lobster legend is on top with 1,153.
40:38Slowly creeping towards our two ton mark.
40:41Ho ho ho ho, don't jinx us mate.
40:45Slowly creeping towards it mate.
40:47You know, a lot of big ones.
40:49Heaps over one kilo.
40:50It was a good day.
40:56Squeezy's final task for the day is to measure his last haul into the holding tank.
41:01At the end of the day on the bowl contender, the only person allowed to measure into the holding tank,
41:06the final tank,
41:07is me. It's my livelihood on the line. It's my reputation. The buck stops with me.
41:23Oh! One just fell in there on the sides. Oh, sake. Horn broke. That's bad. Like,
41:32I'm paranoid about that shit. I dropped an undersized one in the holding thing.
41:37My fault. I knew it was undersized. I went to throw it over the side. It slipped out of my
41:44hand as I
41:45went to throw it. We're in the tank. The fines for undersized fish in your tank are massive.
41:51Thousands and thousands of dollars, and it could end your career. Your fishing days are over.
41:55Torch for you, mate. Marine flesh checks can happen at any time. You could be sleeping in your bunk.
42:00The next minute, they'll wake you up. And the super bad news about that is there's nearly 400
42:07crays in where it is. So I'm looking for one cray in 400. I don't know how long this is
42:13going to take.
42:15And we're doing it. There is no ifs, buts, maybes. We're doing it. Right now. Pump the tank out.
42:30And... I'm going looking till I find it. If I have to chuck 300 crays out here on deck, I'll
42:36do it.
42:39Please be easy to find. We have to find it. Otherwise, my reputation will be shot to shit.
42:49What a f***ing disaster.
42:55This is one of the biggest stuff-ups of my career. I need to get it fixed. ASAP.
43:05Go, Docky!
43:08Go, Docky!
43:14Oh, yeah!
43:18Wow!
43:20That's my f***!
43:22Hello!
43:28I feel alive!
