00:04This week we're looking at the highly popular 2022 Ford Maverick Compact Pickup.
00:09This small truck had over 100,000 orders before production even began.
00:18Under the hood is the 250-horse, 2-liter EcoBoost engine, mated to an 8-speed automatic.
00:25My review truck is the XLT package with all-wheel drive.
00:30There's also a hybrid version that I'll review next week.
00:33This small pickup is an interesting mix, to say the least.
00:36It's got some features that you'd expect on more expensive trucks and other things missing.
00:41There was a surprise like Sirius XM, HD radio and navigation system.
00:47The exterior appearance is good, and it looks like a shrunken Ford Ranger in many ways, although it is a
00:53foot shorter.
00:54It has a four and a half foot bed and has four full doors.
00:58The interior is well done, nothing fancy, but very functional.
01:02The seats are comfortable and attractive with two shades of gray with orange stitching.
01:07In fact, orange abounds throughout the cabin and dominates the center console.
01:12The gauge cluster is configurable with driver info controlled from the steering wheel.
01:16High on the dash is an 8-inch touchscreen that is simple but works well.
01:21You operate all audio, Bluetooth, apps, Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
01:27The center console houses a round gear shift knob and buttons for the drive modes, the start-stop disable, traction
01:34control and all-wheel settings.
01:36If you're a fan of cubby holes, they are everywhere in this vehicle.
01:40And the center console has a nifty place to put your phone where you can actually see it when driving.
01:46I have to mention the funky door panels, too.
01:49Their composite materials look great in this truck.
01:52There are cubbies there, too, and a nifty water bottle holder for each door.
01:56Backseat room was better than expected in a small truck.
01:59Backseat passengers get USB ports and a power outlet.
02:04The backseat folds up and has storage underneath for valuables.
02:07The pickup bed has plastic all around the edges so when you put cargo in, you won't scratch the paint.
02:13And the tailgate even has a built-in bottle opener.
02:16There's a small storage box with an underneath hidden compartment.
02:20There's a power outlet and lighting as well.
02:22The XLT comes standard with power windows, a power driver seat, power locks, remote start,
02:28a keyless entry pad, pre-collision assist, blind spot monitoring, rear view camera, tilt wheel, and cruise control.
02:36Notable options are the 17-inch wheels, the luxury package, and trailer tow package, which gives you 4,000 pounds
02:43of towing.
02:44The Maverick drives great with surprisingly quiet inside and overall quite enjoyable to drive.
02:50It's small but doesn't feel small and would make a great truck for in-town driving and trips to the
02:55hardware store.
02:56Fuel economy is 22 city and 29 highway.
03:00The hybrid I'll have next week is rated at 40 in town, so we'll know soon.
03:06Total MSRP is $31,910 loaded, but the base price is around $22,000, making it a great value.
03:14I thought the Hyundai Santa Cruz would be a big competitor, but the truth is these two trucks are very
03:20different.
03:21Although both are great, if you're on a budget, the Ford Maverick is an exceptional value.
