00:03A catastrophic train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio has prompted comparisons on social media to the 1986 Chernobyl disaster,
00:11which resulted in a spread of radioactive materials across Europe and an untold loss of human life.
00:17As reported by Business Insider, toxic chemicals such as vinyl chloride were released into the environment
00:23following the Ohio train derailment and a controlled burn of the spill to prevent a deadly explosion.
00:28While residents in a two-mile radius were temporarily evacuated due to the carcinogenic nature of the contaminants,
00:34a 19-mile radius nuclear exclusion zone exists around the Chernobyl plant to this day.
00:39The accident caused the deaths of some 30 workers, though it's estimated thousands have died in the years since due
00:44to radiation exposure.
00:46No deaths have been reported in East Palestine, though residents have reported suffering from respiratory issues, eye irritation and other
