00:01Rumour has it that Aussie natives are charming, intelligent and unique creatures.
00:06And people travel thousands of miles just to see one.
00:10While I can neither confirm nor deny these rumours,
00:13this Aussie native does her best to embody all of the above.
00:16But my charm and intelligence is no match for these true blue Aussies.
00:21Surrounding me is a troop of some of Australia's finest iconic creatures.
00:26The Red Kangaroo and the Bennet's Wallaby.
00:28Straight from the land down under, these marsupials reside in the luxurious open plains of Kangaroo Crossing in Minnesota Zoo.
00:36And you may notice that many of our furry friends are accompanied by one of this season's spring babies.
00:42That's right boys and girls, Minnesota Zoo has experienced a joey baby boom.
00:46So naturally, we're here to make sure that you don't miss out on any of the action.
01:03And since we're here, we may as well discuss some of the reasons that make these animals so special.
01:09Well, we should probably start with one of the most important reasons.
01:13We may have already touched on this, but I think it's important to reiterate.
01:16Kangaroos and wallabies are native to one of the greatest places on Earth, Australia.
01:22That's about 8,000 miles away from their home here at Minnesota Zoo.
01:26They are what's known as marsupials, which means they're younger born immature and develop further in the safety of their
01:33mother's pouch.
01:33And what about that famous hop? Kangaroos and wallabies are the only large mammal to use this technique as their
01:40main method to get from one place to another.
01:43Hopping is both fast and energy efficient.
01:47Us Aussies are well known for our innovative thinking.
