00:00Recently, this was floating over the U.S., a Chinese spy balloon.
00:04For days, the device meandered over American states until it was finally blown up, shot down by an F-22
00:10fighter.
00:11Now, Representative Matt Gaetz is calling for President Biden to do more, telling him to get rid of China's other
00:16spying tools that millions of Americans voluntarily use every day.
00:20TikTok.
00:21Shortly after the balloon had been blasted out of the air, Gaetz took to Twitter, writing,
00:25Now blow up TikTok, tweeting again shortly after, this time with an explanation, saying TikTok is a bigger threat than
00:32the balloon.
00:32TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese company.
00:35Gaetz told WEAR-TV in December that he and other representatives believe TikTok is a data harvesting tool for the
00:42Chinese Communist Party.
00:44He and other lawmakers have even put forth regulations with regards to the app, with Josh Hawley initiating the No
00:49TikTok on United States Devices Act.
00:52While Chinese spying is no doubt a concern for many lawmakers and citizens, experts say TikTok does little more than
00:57other apps with regards to harvesting data.
00:59Which begs the question, why haven't U.S. lawmakers done more to protect Americans against domestic data harvesting as well?
