00:00So the Strait of Hormuz is almost like a cosmic joke that's played on humanity.
00:06If you plugged into a chatbot, draw me an oil choke point, it would probably come up
00:13with something like the Strait of Hormuz.
00:16It is so perfect to choke off oil supplies.
00:19It's a narrow body of water through which roughly a fifth of the world's oil flows go
00:26on a normal day.
00:27Hormuz is an advantage for Iran because it allows for asymmetric warfare.
00:33If you consider the situation we have now, we have a superpower in the form of the US,
00:39along with a well-armed ally, Israel, attacking Iran and fighting a war with it.
00:46Iran's best options for dealing with that are things that will cause pressure on America
00:54in a way that it cannot do in conventional means.
00:56Iran can't launch a missile at the US, for example.
01:00It doesn't take a lot to block oil's flow through the Strait of Hormuz.
01:05You don't have to sink every ship.
01:07You don't have to fill the thing with mines.
01:10All you have to do is change people's minds about the safety of sailing a ship through it.
01:17So if you attack a ship once every few days, once a week, if you talk about doing it, pretty
01:23soon insurance companies won't insure those ships and pretty soon captains and crews won't sail them through there.
01:30And hey, presto, you've got your hand around the throat of the global oil market.
01:34So we would argueGG is that there will be like one Oh drinks.
01:35So it's something on a spot that does keep painting.
01:35Let's play Gary and for this program to introduce you.
