00:00Wind in your hair, the sea on the horizon, and the quiet hope that just this once, the
00:06walk might actually tire the dog out. King Charles has announced a new coastal footpath
00:10encircling the entirety of England, with a stretch running through Kent.
00:15The route allows walkers to reach the Isle of Grain on the tip of Hoopensila, and some
00:20locals are loving the idea, hopeful that people can come to appreciate this place for its
00:25biodiversity.
00:26Simon Henderson, a local resident, dog walker, and bird watcher, is excited that
00:32Hoopensila is included. He hopes the area's natural beauty will finally gain the recognition
00:36it deserves.
00:38I think it's great, I mean I don't just dog walk down here, I do a lot of bird watching
00:41and photography as well, so it's a fabulous area, very lucky to have it close to where
00:49we live. You know I just encourage people to get out here and use it and see it for what
00:53it is. You know, you do get a lot of people just come through here and walk and not realise
00:59exactly, you know, what's here. You know, the wildlife, the birds and everything, you
01:04know, people do miss that, you know.
01:07Yeah, we already get quite a lot of walkers already, and of course the most famous walker
01:12we ever had was Mr Charles Dickens, of course. So yeah, I believe that is the case. I think
01:18more people will want to walk this entire route. It might take them some time, it will
01:23probably take a couple of days just to do the peninsula, because it's quite a large area.
01:29People don't realise how big it is until you get on the ground and start walking it.
01:33But how many people in Kent are ready to take on the challenge?
01:37Yes, absolutely. And I walk in all weathers anyway, but especially with weathers like this,
01:41Kent and England are the best places to walk.
01:43I definitely would, because I want to do that sort of thing for my charity as well.
01:46I'm sure it would be a wonderful experience, but it's just, I haven't got the time. I'd
01:51love to do something like that though. Even a section of it would be great.
01:54Not now, no. Not at my age anyway.
01:59I know I won't be tackling all 2,689 miles myself, but I'll happily live vicariously through
02:06anyone brave enough to wander England's coastline.
02:09Maisie Walker for KMTV. Who?
