00:00Today is International Waffle Day, and with over two dozen types of waffles worldwide, there are plenty of ways to
00:06celebrate.
00:06But did you know there is a religious tradition baked into this special day for waffles?
00:11International Waffle Day actually originated in Sweden.
00:14The Feast of Annunciation, which is also today, is known as Our Lady's Day.
00:19In Swedish, this is called Waffordagen, which sounds very similar to the Swedish word for waffle, Waffeldagen.
00:26This was the recipe for International Waffle Day.
00:28Now, most people associate the date of March 25th with eating waffles rather than its religious occasion.
00:35International Waffle Day is especially popular in Scandinavia because of its origins.
00:39But that doesn't mean we can't join in on the sweet celebration.
00:42The most popular type of waffle globally is the Belgian waffle.
00:46But did you know that there are actually two types of Belgian waffles?
00:49One is the Liege waffle, which comes from Belgium's Wallonia region.
00:53The other is the Brussels waffle, which originally came from Ghent, but eventually became iconic in the capital city.
00:59We went to the waffle shop called Kapu to learn more about the differences between these waffles and try them
01:04out for ourselves.
01:05So, this waffle is the waffle from Liege, a city in the south of Belgium.
01:13This waffle is usually eaten always like this.
01:17That means without any topping because it's already very sugar inside.
01:24But this waffle, it's called Brussels waffle.
01:28And the difference between both of them is this one is like sweeter, less sugary.
01:35And here we add some salty caramel.
01:37We can also add normal caramel, hot chocolate.
01:41We don't use the same sugar to cook them.
01:43This sugar for the Liege one is very big.
01:48Then this one is like normal sugar we use, usually like for the pancakes.
01:53My verdict is in.
01:54You cannot go wrong with either waffle.
01:57So, what type of waffle will you choose to enjoy this International Waffle Day?
