00:09Hi everyone, it's Louise O'Connor here
00:12and I'm the executive producer on Everwild
00:14and today I am joined by a very special guest
00:18Ryan Stevenson and I'm art director on Everwild
00:20and today what we're going to do is take you through
00:23a kind of commentary on the trailer that we've just released
00:27so we can give you a little bit more insight into what we've created
00:31So let's get to it
00:37So to start with the opening, as with all Rare games
00:40we always make the Rare logo something unique for the title
00:43but with Everwild we want to do something a bit different
00:46this time it isn't about the actual logo itself
00:49it's about what it reveals, it's a window into another world
00:52I love that so much
00:53a window into our natural world that we're making
00:56that is fantastical and interesting and full of nature
00:59and so we did that also on our last trailer as well
01:01but it had a different shot
01:03so each time, Rare's revealing a new window into the world of Everwild
01:07And I love seeing the Rare logo
01:08there's nothing like watching the logo onto your game
01:11and then you hear Chloe's opening, you know, singing this song
01:15and it's just, you know what's about to happen, it's incredible
01:18and I love the window into the world
01:20it just makes sense for Everwild
01:27So the next shot, it's opening on that big vista
01:30with Aurora Borealis above
01:32and our Eternals, which are our...
01:35They are player characters
01:36Absolutely
01:36So yeah, very excited to be able to share what they're called
01:39our Eternals
01:40So yeah, it's cool that we get to introduce them in this particular shot
01:43with their creatures by their side
01:45And that's an important part, it's the connection as well
01:48Mm-hmm
01:48So all the way through the trailer
01:50you start seeing these little moments of connection
01:52between the Eternals and also the animals that they interact with
01:57and right at the start there is the Eternal on the far right
02:00and she's walking alongside a deer-like creature
02:02Bloom Deer
02:03Bloom Deer
02:03As our Discord people are calling it
02:05So thank you for the Bloom Deer
02:07Walking alongside the Bloom Deer
02:09And again, it's a bit of a callback to our past trailer
02:12where you can actually see that moment of connection being built
02:15Which kind of takes us into our next shot, right?
02:17Which is the campfire
02:23So as we've been developing this project
02:26we've been learning a lot about the natural world
02:29and all the crazy animals and things that live in it
02:33So one of the creatures that appears in the campfire shot
02:36is this bird-like creature that sweeps down
02:38and takes some food out of one of the Eternals' hands
02:41There's a relationship between that creature and the Eternals
02:44and obviously you see the Eternal offers this creature some food
02:47and it comes down and picks it up
02:49but that's a relationship that's almost like symbiotic
02:52in the sense of that this creature needs others to help it hunt
02:56and obviously that's a beneficial thing to the Eternals as well
02:59to find things within the world
03:01And that's a very prevalent thing in the natural real world anyway
03:04like a lot of creatures do this
03:05like they build up these symbiotic relationships
03:08like those birds that sit on the backs of like elephants and rhinos
03:11and things, right?
03:12They do that because it helps their feeding habits
03:15so it's just a great way to inspire us as game developers
03:18to think about the types of personalities that some of these creatures
03:21would have and some of these behaviors that they would have as well
03:28So the next shot is the mountain pass shot
03:31I love this because it's very different to what we showed before
03:34another example of just like how diverse this world is
03:37how many different types of environments you can have
03:39and just how interesting all of those environments can be
03:42but obviously this is a moment that can be a bit treacherous
03:45Yeah, it's also that epic and the intimate
03:48because there's that epic moment, it's that big mountain range
03:51it's looking out over to the world
03:52but then there's this creature that gets worried
03:54but because of that relationship the Eternals has with it
03:57they're able to calm it down and make sure that it doesn't get into even more trouble
04:01because obviously it's a treacherous moment
04:04Yeah, I think that's cool
04:05I don't know about you
04:06Do you think that's cool?
04:07Yeah, that's cool
04:11So our Eternals in the world can obviously protect things
04:14as well in the world
04:15and if you look at the end of the shot you can see why they're doing this
04:18they're protecting a tree that's in a forest that's still got a little bit of life on
04:21and what are they protecting it from?
04:23A swarm of these insects that are slowly going through the world and eating
04:26like locusts
04:27Yeah
04:27So the Eternals are creating this barrier with this special mark making
04:31that is going to protect this tree
04:33and hopefully life will find a way with that tree once more
04:36I actually really love the flow of this shot, the fluidity of this shot
04:40there's something just really beautiful about this moment of trying to protect
04:44life in this world and I think that's really cool
04:59So an egg shot features a different creature for us, first time we're showing this one as well
05:03And it's really fluffy!
05:06Sorry
05:06So it's a fluffy creature but it's inspired by elephants
05:09and the way that they can tear down trees and actually remove plant life from an area
05:15so this is something that this creature does naturally within its own world
05:18and it's an action pulling down plant life and then feeding off it
05:22is something that it just does itself
05:25but our Eternals have built a bond with this creature that they're able to then encourage it to do that
05:31same action
05:32when they need it to happen for whatever reason that they need it to happen for
05:35And the other thing about this is again, it's another type of environment, right?
05:39Yes
05:39I mean I know you love to challenge yourself artistically but I suppose from an art perspective
05:44it's quite challenging to have all of these different types of environments
05:47but it's also refreshing in a way just to have all of the scope to be creative in your vision
05:54for art for the game as well
05:55Yes, it's a rich dense world with so many different environments and biomes as we sometimes call them
06:02to experience and explore
06:09I love this moment of stillness, this frame of this eternal
06:14just taking some time in this beautiful pond and there's this bioluminescence all around her
06:20and it's a moment of tranquillity and peace
06:23and I think this is something that you don't get to see or experience in a game
06:27and I love that we put this in the middle of our trailer
06:30and made sure that we broke up the trailer in a way that gave you a moment to just take
06:34everything in
06:35to take in this world, to take in these creatures, take in these characters
06:38and just have a moment of peace and tranquillity
06:41and I think that that's why it's my favourite
06:53you don't always know what something is in the natural world
06:56it could look really nice but you actually get close to it and it's oh dear that it's turned
07:01it's not quite what you expected
07:02and you can see that the Eternals are having that moment within this shot
07:06where they're slowly approaching this rather large creature
07:09they're about to learn a valuable lesson
07:11they're about to learn a valuable lesson about it
07:13and this creature is an interesting one
07:14it's very much inspired by animals
07:16whether other animals that live inside them
07:18or that they get looked after inside them
07:20so there's some fish that actually have other little fish that hide inside their mouths
07:24but this creature there is a relationship between the smaller creatures that come out of this one's mouth
07:28which we're not really talking about that relationship just yet
07:31but it isn't quite what you expect
07:33and it's this unusual creature that the Eternals will have to learn a little bit more about
07:38to be able to approach a little bit more safely next time
07:41How many favourite shots can I have?
07:44You're allowed, that's your next favourite one
07:46That is my net, I mean, yeah, I really like this shot
07:53I love we've got this Eternal protecting this creature
07:57which everybody seems to have fallen in love with this particular creature from our first trailer as well
08:02it's just building this sense of danger and this anxiousness
08:06you know that there's something wrong in this moment and you want to fix it
08:10and you can tell that there's a story about to develop here
08:14and that's what I really like about this shot
08:16it's this anticipation to something bigger that's about to happen
08:21It's also interesting that it's one of our older Eternals
08:25Nothing wrong with being a bit
08:26A bit older
08:28And they're looking after a young
08:30and that was something that was really important
08:33that relationship between those two characters in that way
08:44In this shot, our Eternals have found something
08:47but obviously it's night time so they're unable to see
08:50but one of them has got a Glowbook-like thing
08:53and they've released it into the environment and it's able to light their way
08:57to show where things are and reveal hidden things within the world
09:01Yeah, and I love that
09:02This is a great moment as well for Everwild
09:04This isn't just a natural world, this is a world of history
09:08It's a world of things to discover
09:11and I think that this shot shows that something else has been there
09:16and something else has happened
09:17and it's lovely that we have this richness of exploration in the world of Everwild
09:25What I love about the transition between that last shot and this shot
09:29is the swell in the music as well
09:31Obviously as we're making the trailer
09:33we're handing over storyboards to Robin and Jamie
09:37and they're kind of working up the music alongside
09:39but it just fills me up when I hear the music
09:42and then all of a sudden you're on a mountaintop looking out over this world with your friends
09:47and I think that the music and this kind of moment just feels epic
09:51It feels epic
10:11So for this shot it is that continuation from the shot earlier
10:14where we saw our Eternal carrying a small creature going to save it
10:19and this is the moment that it's been leading up to
10:22This is where you find out that that creature really isn't in a good way
10:27They've tried some things maybe but they need to really help this animal
10:31and they're going to find out a way of doing it through a ritual
10:35I love this moment as well, this ritual, this movement and the rhythm as well
10:40because it goes back into our world has a rhythm
10:42and our Eternals are doing this dance and it's just so fluid
10:46and the motion is lovely in it
10:48and it's kind of a beautiful moment because it's a real nurturing moment I think as well
10:52like you're making a decision to do a positive thing
10:54and I think what we wanted to do is a big part of our trailer
10:57as we move into the final shots
10:59is we wanted to introduce something new and magical to the world
11:05which are our spirits
11:15They've done this ritual and it's brought this spirit into the world in this moment
11:21and I think again nature is so powerful and so magical
11:24why not make them characters in our game?
11:35Absolutely, yeah
11:37and I think that's just a really nice way to end a trailer
11:41and make you feel, hopefully feel like you want a bit more as well
11:44Absolutely, thank you very much for joining us today
11:47and hopefully that was a little bit more insight into the world of Everwild
11:50And there is plenty more to come
11:53so thank you for watching, thank you for all your support
11:56and please go check out the rare channels
11:58go check out our discord if you want to go name some creatures
12:02and we would love to see what you have to say about Everwild
12:06Thanks everyone! Bye!
