00:00Let's talk about that 1 million people who are displaced.
00:03More than 1 million, we believe, now.
00:06What does that mean for Lebanon and the fabric of society?
00:11Lebanon is a small country, so when we're talking about more than 1 million,
00:16we're talking about around more than 1 in 5 people.
00:21The shelters are available, but the numbers are so huge that people are sheltering in the streets.
00:25They're seeking shelter in schools, sports stadiums.
00:30Roundabouts.
00:31Beirut, in many parts, looks like an open-air encampment.
00:34People have pitched tents.
00:36They're sleeping under the rain.
00:39The sound of thunder keeps them up all night.
00:42So we're really talking about an immense strain on the city, on people.
00:47And beyond the numbers, every single displaced person is also a story.
00:51They have lives.
00:52These are people who only weeks ago were attending to their gardens,
00:56or planning home improvements, or going about buying groceries.
01:00And they now face a complete disruption of everyday life.
01:05Living in the streets, living in shelters,
01:07trying to, you know, secure the essentials for themselves and their families.
01:13Take care.
