00:33we previewed Legends of Runeterra

00:45way more than we could give access to all at once,
00:47and we know that many more of you are still waiting

00:51Our original plan was to continue rolling out invites for closed beta
00:54as we got key features ready for primetime,
00:56but we've heard your feedback, and it's clear.
00:58The best thing we could do was just release the game to everyone.
01:02So we hit the gas to make as much progress as possible in the past few weeks.
01:05Now, the wait is almost over.
01:08We're headed to open beta.
01:18Starting January 24th.
01:21Everyone who wants to play Legends of Runeterra will have full access.

01:31Let's check out some of the features you can expect to see when you log in,
01:35and where we plan to take them in the future.
01:39Our goal from the start is to create a card game
01:41with enough strategic depth and interaction to support skilled competition.
01:45Now it's time to see where you stand amongst the best players in Runeterra.
01:50Ranked will be live in the beta.
01:52You'll see some similarities to League,
01:54like earning LP to Advance through Divisions and climbing from Iron all the way to Master.
01:59But we've also made some changes based on Legends of Runeterra's one-on-one Ranked experience.
02:04For example, one problem we've seen in card games
02:06is that you can feel like you're locked into playing a proven meta deck if you want to climb.
02:11Versus trying different strategies to get to the top.
02:14We want you to be able to test different competitive decks without sacrificing progress.
02:19So when you reach a tier in Legends of Runeterra,
02:22you'll hold that rank for the rest of the season. You earned it.
02:25Your rise to the ranks starts with the beta season, which will last until launch.
02:29You can expect seasons and balance updates that reduce the grind while making the competitive meta more dynamic.
02:36Ranked is a key element of the Legends of Runeterra experience,
02:39but it's not the only thing we're working on.
02:42For us, one of the best parts about playing a physical card game
02:45is a sense of community and great shared memories that come from playing at a table with friends,
02:49which has been sort of lost in the transition online.
02:53While many of you will have a blast playing Legends of Runeterra solo,
02:56we also want to make it awesome to play with friends.
02:58So, in addition to Ranked, the beta will also have a friend challenge feature.
03:03As part of Legends of Runeterra's new social panel,
03:06you'll be able to directly challenge anyone on your list to a game.
03:09All of your friends from League will already be there.
03:12Yep. All of them. Every single one.
03:19Going forward, you can expect more features like this to support the social side of Legends of Runeterra,
03:25and even bigger things in the future.
03:28We're committed to making it the best card game out there,
03:31whether you're playing solo or with friends.
03:33But even solo players will always have a buddy by their side.
03:37League has a long tradition of making gameplay totally free
03:40by offering paid cosmetic items that let you personalize your experience.
03:44Likewise, our goal on Legends of Runeterra is to make a game
03:47where how much you spend does not determine how much you win.
03:50Since we got rid of paying for randomized packs and made getting cards accessible for every player,
03:56that means we're doubling down on optional paid personalization.
03:59Our bet is that you'd rather buy a T-Hex or Curse Runes than a randomized card pack.
04:04We believe direct access to gameplay and a ton of ways to personalize it
04:08is ultimately way more fun and a better experience.
04:11In the beta, there are three new Guardians.
04:14Snapper, Gromp Jr., and T-Hex.
04:21And a board for each region of Runeterra, complete with unique region-specific theme music.
04:26And that's just a handful of the huge variety of options you'll be able to choose from in the future.
04:31We're talking all kinds of Guardians to cheer you to victory,
04:35different styles of boards that let your opponents know exactly who they're facing,
04:39and emotes to capture that feeling when you get hard denied by your opponent,
04:42and I'll play them anyway.
04:44These Guardians, boards, and emotes aren't the only things we have planned.
04:48We're exploring more ways for you to personalize your gameplay
04:50and tie-ins with expansions to the core game.
04:53Speaking of expansions, we can't leave out the obvious. New cards.
04:56Over the next 12 months, we'll release multiple sets
04:59that each add a new region to the game,
05:01highlighting different parts of Runeterra and bringing fresh mechanics to the meta.
05:05Every set will also add new champions to all the other regions.
05:09These champs are designed to connect the new region with the previous ones.
05:13You'll see some popular picks from each region,
05:15but you may be pleasantly surprised by some of the other champs
05:18joining the Legends of Runeterra roster this year.
05:20There are no more resets from this point on,
05:23so now is the perfect time to start building your collection
05:25before the new region and champions arrive.
05:27You decide what to unlock first,
05:29and what you'll play in the first Legends of Runeterra meta.
05:33We seriously cannot wait to share more about what's next,
05:36but in the meantime, we hope this preview got you as excited as we are for 2020.
