00:04Netflix's smash hit K-pop Demon Hunters is currently the streaming giant's most-watched
00:09original film, with over 300 million views. A tale of good and evil incorporating traditional
00:14Korean mythology, it won the 2026 Oscar for Best Animated Film, while its anthem,
00:19Golden, became the first K-pop track to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
00:24Golden also picked up awards at the Golden Globes, Critics' Choice Awards and the Grammys.
00:28The film tells the story of Hunter X, a K-pop girl group whose members live double lives
00:33as weapon-wielding demon slayers. The protagonists have to square off against a demon boy band called
00:39the Saja Boys in a battle to protect humanity. Since its release in June 2025, the film's influence
00:45has spread beyond the movie screen. Audrey Nuna, whose singing voice is behind the character Mira,
00:50headlined the opening ceremony at the Women's Asian Cup in Australia. The real-life settings
00:54of the animated movie, such as Seoul's Naksan Park, have also become a pilgrimage site for fans.
00:59The wall, I feel like, is very iconic in this location. Like in the movie, Junyu is like,
01:05standing on it. It adds interest to different places we can go and see and then my kids and
01:11family learned a little bit more about Korean culture from the movie, I guess. Despite originally
01:15being made mostly in English, the film is made up of a largely Korean cast, and has been seen as
01:20the
01:20latest example of K-syndrome, the world's growing appetite for content and culture showcasing
01:25Korean life and experiences. When collecting the Oscar, co-director Maggie Kan said the film
01:30was years in the making, and dedicated the award to Korea and Koreans everywhere.
