00:12Hi, my name is Brenda Romero, and I'm the game director
00:14on Empire of Sin.
00:16My name is John Romero, and I'm working
00:18on Empire of Sin in a lot of different areas.
00:20My great-grandmother's name
00:22was Elvita Duarte Morales
00:24and she lived in Nogales, Mexico.
00:26Elvita was a real character.
00:28She used to walk around with
00:30a green parrot on her shoulder
00:32and she'd smoke cigarettes
00:33and basically tell jokes with the parrot
00:35answering her all in Spanish.
00:37It was pretty funny. Elvita ran
00:39three brothels that she started
00:41in Nogales. She did that
00:44for probably two decades
00:45until she won the lottery and
00:47she sold the businesses
00:49and she retired. I came up with the idea
00:51to use Elvira in the game. I
00:53absolutely loved her as a
00:55larger-than-life figure. Elvira
00:58was a badass, powerful woman
00:59and I wanted to bring that badass,
01:01powerful woman into Empire of Sin.
01:04She also was around in 1920
01:06so this was a real woman
01:07who ran real rackets
01:09and I really wanted to bring her
01:12to life in this game
01:13and sort of, I guess, honor her and honor
01:15the works that she did. Elvira's boss
01:18combat ability is called Devil's Brut
01:20and what she does is she goes up to
01:22an enemy and then she breathes
01:24this purple smoke in their face
01:26and then she takes control of that enemy
01:28and uses the enemy to mow down
01:30their crew who's in combat
01:32with you and you get about
01:34three turns of
01:36this. After three turns
01:37the character that you've taken control of
01:40dies. So it's a pretty cool ability.
01:42Minus the death bit of that
01:44I would like
01:46that ability for Mother's Day.
01:47I would like the ability to take control
01:49of the kids and have them
01:51do the dishes.
01:53Their homework would be amazing
01:54to actually get their homework done.
01:56I can think of all kinds of things.
01:58In the game Elvira looks like
02:00my grandmother Socorro
02:02who is one of Elvira's nine kids.
02:05The concept art was done
02:07after the picture and then the model
02:09was created after the concept art
02:11and it looks just like my grandmother
02:13and it was amazing to see her in the game
02:15for the first time as my grandmother
02:18holding a tommy gun and mowing down
02:19the enemy because it was pretty awesome.
02:21When I first saw Elvira in the game
02:22the immediate thing I recognized is
02:24oh my god she looks like John.
02:26I think the part that was the most obvious
02:28is that John has these grey streaks on the side of his hair
02:31and Elvira has grey streaks on the side of her hair
02:33and I actually think that was just a pure coincidence.
02:36I really hope people love playing Elvira in Empire of Sin.
02:40She is a absolutely fantastic character
02:43and she highlights the kind of diverse cast that I wanted for this game.
