00:00Hey everyone, welcome to our GeForce coverage at E3 2019.
00:04My name is Shanna Morse, and I'm joined by Powwow to talk about Cyberpunk 2077.
00:08It looks amazing.
00:10Tell me a little bit about the storyline on this game.
00:13In the game you're playing as V, and V is a mercenary who tries to make living in Night City.
00:18And as you could have seen in the CGI that we have shown, there are circumstances that happen around V
00:24that make Johnny Silverhand appear in V's live, and then everything gets way more complicated,
00:30and that moves the story forward.
00:31Well, I would love to talk a little bit about the Johnny character, who is portrayed by Keanu Reeves.
00:36Can you tell me how you got Keanu on board for this project?
00:39We have actually started talking to him like a long time ago.
00:43It was like almost a year or something.
00:45He has a history of playing strong characters in like cyberpunk setting.
00:49So we're like, yeah, he fits really well to this role.
00:51So basically we got him into the game, he approved the model of the character.
00:54He plays a major role in the game.
00:57And as V, you can develop this relationship in very different ways.
01:00Were you inspired by any of his previous work, like Matrix or Johnny Mnemonic?
01:05Oh, I mean, you saw the demo, right?
01:07Yeah.
01:07So there was one moment when we show off the nanowire.
01:10That's like straight from Johnny Mnemonic.
01:13There's like bajillion references.
01:14The most important ones are the movie references, I think.
01:17So we would go for like Blade Runner, obviously.
01:19Then, you know, you have Akira.
01:21Then you have Cowboy Bebo.
01:22Then, you know, there's lots of books, like books from Gibson, for instance.
01:25Books that are like kind of the ground of cyberpunk as it is.
01:28But of course, there are also game references.
01:30Like in terms of games, I think the closest to me is Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.
01:35I was absolutely captivated by the bloodlines and by the game itself.
01:39It had a lot of awesome elements.
01:40And in cyberpunk, we're doing lots of things like that.
01:43You can pick your life paths.
01:44You can create different builds that put you into different branches.
01:47We have branching store lines.
01:49And actually lots of things change depending on your choices.
01:52So you can see all those references there.
01:54And you also have like different, not necessarily classes, but you can customize your characters in so many different ways,
02:00correct?
02:00Yes, like we call it a fluid class system.
02:03So basically our class system allows you to pick skills and attributes from completely different trees.
02:08You can mix and match.
02:09So basically the player can do weirdest possible character he wants and it still works.
02:14Because our job as a quest designer is to make sure that every quest is beatable in some way, no
02:19matter what weird combination you have figured out for yourself.
02:22And it's really fun actually, figuring those out.
02:24So there's a lot of different ways that you can actually beat the different missions and it all just kind
02:28of depends on what kind of character you choose to play.
02:30Exactly, and in The Witcher 3 we sort of did like a branching storyline in open world.
02:35In this game we are taking non-linear game in open world and adding branching gameplay.
02:40So we can actually have different play styles and you have completely different paths depending on what you did.
02:44You can actually go through the game and use non-lethal ways of beating the missions.
02:49Absolutely, yeah.
02:50Can you do that through the whole thing?
02:51Yes, absolutely.
02:52So this is one of the changes that we have done actually from the previous year.
02:55You can do it in every possible quest.
02:57All the main quests, side quests, minor quests and street stories are supporting that so you don't have to kill
03:02anybody.
03:02Now I would like to ask you a little bit about the environment.
03:06There's tons of awesome lighting and colors and everything.
03:09How are you implementing ray tracing in this game?
03:11So there's few ways we are using it.
03:14We just want to make sure that the city really looks cyberpunk so that it reflects nicely in like puddles.
03:19because the realistic look of the game is our goal.
03:21Well, you definitely have me interested.
03:24When does the game come out?
03:25The games came out at the 16th of April 2020.
03:28Thank you so much, Powell, for talking to me about Cyberpunk 2077.
