00:09Because today, I'm going to introduce you to the series Dear White People for my week on International White Day
00:15of the fight against racism.
00:17Wow, that's tough.
00:17The series takes place at the fictional Winchester University with a campus that is predominantly white.
00:24It follows several Black students who are trying to find their place in an environment where discrimination is often subtle.
00:31but very consistent.
00:33The main character, Samantha White, hosts a radio show where she criticizes racial injustices on campus.
00:40And the name of the show is Dear White People, hence the title of the series.
00:44The first season begins after a scandal, a student party where participants arrive wearing blackface.
00:50And they are reproducing a practice inherited from the racist shows of the 19th century called the Manswell Show.

00:59The series also touches on the history of the Ku Klux Klan, a white supremacist organization founded after the Civil War.
