00:36And that's a difficult place for pitchers, or rather hitters who have large upper bodies, to swing the bat.
00:43And you've got a situation here where, as you just said, Ralph, Pedro hadn't done any damage in this series.
00:49And certainly wouldn't want to wake him up.
00:51No, there's no purpose there.
00:54And back inside again, two balls, no strikes.

01:21But over in the American League, for the most part, you don't find pitchers pitching inside as much as you

01:30Oh, he's got to get suspended through the bat.

01:41It was a curveball, for a cry out loud.

01:46Oh, that is serious, throwing that bat at that pitcher.
01:52Really not much of a fight, as everybody really went out there to keep anything serious from happening.

02:06And throwing that bat at Cohn, and it was a curveball that hit him on the helmet.

02:54And he felt he was being thrown at, thrown at, and he just fired it out there.

03:09Well, there was an incident that happened here in Los Angeles when Juan Marishaw took a bat
03:15and hit Johnny Roseboro over the head with it.
03:18And he was suspended for some time as a result of that.
03:23That Roseboro, in throwing the ball back, I believe it was Sandy Koufax pitching,
03:28came close to Marishaw.
03:29But you always do when you have a batter up there and you're throwing back to the pitcher.
03:35And Marishaw took the bat and hit Johnny Roseboro on the body with it.
03:40I believe he got part of his batting helmet.
03:43And they're still restraining Guerrero.
03:47Tommy Lasorda arguing with home plate umpire John Kibler, who's also the crew chief.
03:53And you could see, Tim McCarver pointed out, you could see David Cohn saying it was a curveball.
04:00It certainly was, all of that.
04:03Well, it wasn't really the curveball hitting him that caused the problem.
04:06It was the two fastballs, the first two pitches that Guerrero felt were too tight
04:10that he stood and stared at Cohn.
04:13And it led up to that.
04:15Then the breaking ball, hitting him on the shoulder, set everything off.
04:19But you can't throw a bat like that and remain in the ballgame.
04:22And I'd have to think that Pedro, once this incident is reviewed,
04:27is going to miss a lot more than the rest of this ballgame.
04:30Well, he's out of the game.
04:31The breaking ball coming in.
04:33And Guerrero just ducked into it.
04:35And now he fires a bat.
04:38And Cohn gesturing to him saying, come on.
04:41And here comes Pete.
04:47Now he fires a bat.
04:48Now watch, it takes him a while.
04:51Now he's going to take his helmet off here.
04:53Now Barry Lyons sees him go and tries to grab him.
04:56Now look at Pedro.
04:57He sort of slows up here.
04:58And that gives Barry Lyons a chance.
05:01And here's Cohn saying it was a curveball.
05:05Now the bullpens had emptied.
05:07The dugouts had emptied.
05:09Mike Marshall out there quickly to restrain Guerrero.
05:14And Lasorda's still saying, you've got to get Cohn out of the game for throwing at Guerrero.
05:19That's, I'm sure Tommy's argument is that if Guerrero's out of there, David Cohn's got to be out of there.
05:25But so far, Cohn has not been ejected.
05:28But Tommy may get ejected here.
05:30Tommy argued that Dwight Gooden should have been tossed out of the game for hitting Griffin yesterday.
05:36But again, in the situation, it wasn't apparent that it was a knockdown pitch.
05:41And that certainly was not an intentional knockdown pitch as it was a curveball.
05:47But then again, the Mets are leading 5-0.
05:49They don't want anybody on base.
05:51There's no excuse for thinking that it was a knockdown pitch.
05:56Well, you're going to pitch Pedro Guerrero inside.
05:59And see, Pete really didn't make an effort to move.
06:02He didn't back off.
06:03He just sort of ducked and really protected his head with a shoulder.
06:09So he's out of the game.
06:11We're going to have a pinch runner for him.
06:17Jeff Hamilton is coming out to run at first base for Guerrero, being hit by the pitch.
06:24And it will probably be tomorrow before we know of any action that's going to be taken against Pedro for
06:32firing that bat at David Cohn.
06:45So David Cohn with a runner at first base and one out.
