00:18We're going to be unboxing some goodness in front of your eyes.
00:22Yes, and the reason that Bren is here with us is actually quite important.
00:25Because he's the art director on Rise of the Tomb Raider.
00:27So you had a hand in this, in designing a lot of this, which was fantastic.
00:31Should we jump right into it?
00:32Let's do it.
00:33Okay.
00:34So first up in the collector's edition of Rise of the Tomb Raider,
00:38we have this black slip case, which protects the contents inside.
00:43You want to pull that out of there?
00:46Teamwork.
00:48That is a handsome box if I've ever seen one.
00:50It's very cool. It's actually very durable.
00:52So can you explain the design decisions behind this?
00:56It's meant to look like something in spite of the game.
00:58It is meant to look like something, absolutely.
00:59So Trinity, who is the ruthless organization who's after Lara,
01:02they typically around the world take crates like this and they fill it with relics and they send it off.
01:07So what we're trying to do here is give you a sense that they are sending one to you, the
01:11consumer.
01:12And what about Trinity? They're not the good guys, right?
01:15They are jerks.
01:16So what is their role in the game?
01:18Their role is to, I mean, they're effectively after the same thing that Lara is.
01:22Lara learns about Trinity through her father, and they are some bad dudes.
01:25You don't like them.
01:27So it's a race against time.
01:28Yeah.
01:29All right, so we'll open this up.
01:31And what is this?
01:33You want to explain what this is while I pull some of this stuff out of here?
01:36This is a note from the director.

01:42So I'm going to let the consumer, you, read this on your own.

01:54So this is actually an intentional decision.
01:57This is not just to make a mess and annoy your roommates.

02:03It actually is totally to make your animals happy.
02:05But it is more so because when we were thinking about how we would box this stuff,
02:09it'd be cooler to make it feel like they were actually packing the stuff with hay or kind of the
02:13old school.
02:13I mean, come on, who does not love The Last Crusade and Indiana Jones?
02:17I just like to make noise with it.
02:18So for the rest of the unboxing, I'll just sit here and do this while you...

02:24So we'll actually unbox something.
02:26I really like this.
02:27So sticking with the thematic approach to the collector's edition, this is sort of secret, top secret files with the
02:33Trinity stamp on there.
02:35See the manila envelope?
02:37After working on it, it's really nice to see it in person.
02:39So here, this is our steel case, which is pretty exciting.
02:43And you want to talk a little bit about the design on the front?
02:45That's a motif that you actually see in the game quite a bit.
02:47That is.
02:48That turned out nice, too.
02:48It's a piece of the language system that Laura's going to go through.
02:52This icon you'll actually see throughout the world, and she's going to be able to upgrade her own languages through
02:56it.
02:57Yeah.
02:57So we already know she's determined and athletic and all these other things, but it really celebrates how smart she
03:01is, which is fun.
03:02Next up, we have another one.
03:04And this is something we had so many requests for.
03:06It was first spotted in the Turning Point trailer in 2013, Tomb Raider, the reboot.
03:12And it was on Laura's desk, and people were very interested in having a replica of Laura's journal.
03:17Do you want to talk about the symbol on there?
03:18That's right.
03:19The logo represents the Sisters of Artemis.
03:21It's the archery club that Laura's a part of.
03:24She's not any novice.
03:25She's pretty badass with a bow.
03:27And she trained somewhere, and it's with the Sisters of Artemis.
03:29It's really cool.
03:30It's leather, inside pages are a little weathered and old-looking.
03:34The nice thing about it is you can be really rough on this thing, and it'll just get better.
03:38Throw it in a creek.
03:39See what happens.
03:40Probably won't float.
03:41The paper might not survive that, but the leather would.
03:43I wouldn't recommend that.
03:45Next up.
03:46All right.
03:46In the tiny Trinity box, another very common request that we had is for the replica of Laura's necklace.
03:57How cool is that?
03:58That's very cool.
03:59So, the story behind the necklace is that it is Laura's first archaeological find.
04:04She found it when she was young on a dig with Roth, and Roth bent over and took off his
04:09shoelace
04:09and tied it around her neck, so it comes with a shoelace, and you can wear it and look just
04:13like Laura.
04:14She was wearing penguin pajamas at the time.
04:16It's a little known bit of Tomb Raider trivia.
04:18Well, it's funny because I also wear those sometimes.
04:20Don't tell anybody.
04:21Don't tell anybody.
04:22They actually don't have penguin pajamas in adult size.
04:25I've looked.
04:26I beg to differ.
04:27And then you have something pretty important on your side.
04:30The game.
04:31Oh, yeah, that thing.
04:33We're pretty proud of this.
04:34You know, worked hard on it.
04:36So, this is...
04:37I got a little excited, and I'm looking at this box right now, but please go ahead.
04:40That's the game.
04:41You also get the game with the collector's edition, so you can play that.

04:45Okay, so this is something that fans requested specifically.
04:53After our last collector's edition, they said, we want another Lara Croft statue, and so we
04:57are so happy to oblige that request.
05:02Look at that.
05:03So beautiful.
05:04So this thing is 12 inches tall, and it is made out of PVC, so it's actually quite light
05:12and durable.
05:13It has a monofilament on the bow, so it actually looks like the bow is strung.
05:18Super cool and detailed.
05:19It turned out very, very well.
05:20Yes.
05:20I'm pretty happy with that.
05:21So how did you guys, the art team and yourself, how did you guys decide on which outfit to
05:25put on Lara and which gear?
05:26Because Lara has a lot of gear in the game, and she can upgrade to different, you know,
05:31quivers and pistol pouches and so on.
05:33So how did you decide what to put in there?
05:34Well, one of the things we're extremely proud of this time is we have a huge, diverse set
05:38of outfits and weaponry and all these things that make our systems very deep.
05:41This is kind of like the halfway point where Lara has what is kind of her default outfit
05:46that you're going to see most common.
05:47She has all the basic things that she needs to survive, and it quickly became the thing
05:52that we are using right here, on the cover.
05:55Yeah.
05:56Yeah, and her pose, actually, we tried a variety of different poses, and the one that rose to
06:01the top is the one that looks like she's about to breach into something for the first time
06:04as if she's going on her first adventure.
06:06It's not something where she's bursting on in.
06:08She's a little bit apprehensive, and she's not sure if she's ready for it, but she's going
06:11to take that first step.
06:12She's definitely more driven.
06:14Yeah.
06:14So you can kind of see that in the statue, which is great.
06:17I love all the little details.
06:18So we have snow on the boots, which is really cool.
06:21Those takes a little bit transparent.
06:22There's a fantastic attention to detail.
06:24Yeah.
06:24It's wonderful.
