A man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder after a serious attack on a woman in Leeds. Prosecutors say bystanders intervened and may have saved her life.

00:00A man has admitted attempted murder after what prosecutors described as a terrifying and
00:06unprovoked attack in Leeds. 32-year-old Ibrahim al-Bashir used a broken bottle to assault a
00:12woman at a bus stop on Otley Road near the original Oak pub at around 9pm on 17th March
00:182024. The court heard the victim in her 30s suffered serious cuts to her head and neck.
00:25The Crown Prosecution Service says members of the public intervened to stop the attack
00:30and believes their actions may have saved her life. Al-Bashir, who has no fixed address,
00:36will be sentenced in June. Prosecutors say he was aware of his actions and deliberately targeted
00:42the victim.
