00:33The truth is that a video game is made by every single person on the team.
00:39Everybody on the game team makes a significant contribution to the final product.
00:45In The Sims 3, you'll discover an open living neighborhood full of endless possibilities.
00:50The Sims 3 sort of takes a lot of the best things we've loved about previous Sims games,
00:55but puts them in an entirely new situation.
00:57You have the open world where you can walk around this neighborhood and for the first time ever visit your
01:01neighbor and say,
01:02Hey, what's up?
01:03You can look at the town from far away, and then you can zoom in on any location in the
01:07town to see what's going on,
01:09to see what The Sims are doing.
01:10I can explore the neighborhood. I can walk around the streets. I can even go to the center of town.
01:15It's about being able to go out in the world, spy on other people, watch what they're doing, and change
01:19it.
01:20I think one of the coolest things about The Sims 3 is the fact that my story is part of
01:24a bigger story.
01:25The neighborhood is growing and changing around me and my characters,
01:28and the story that I'm telling is affected by that, and their stories are affected by me.
01:32This is going to be Speak Madness, and he is going to be the madman.
01:37The animators have had a lot of fun bringing our character traits to light over here.
01:41So one of the tools that we use to create animation for the game is video reference.
01:45Action.
01:46We work with designers, we work with each other, bounce ideas off each other, brainstorm, react silly, you know,
01:52until something comes out, and then we videotape it, do it a couple of times, a couple of different ways,
01:57take that back to the computer.
02:00That's awesome.
02:01And the animator tells me, you know, I want to do it this way, and I say,
02:04I'd like it if you did it that way, and we come to some middle ground,
02:07and then the animator's off and making something really cool.
02:10The Sims 3 offers a lot of new opportunities to make super unique characters
02:14and super unique places for them to go and things to do.
02:17You'll be able to use Create-A-Sim to make people that you actually know.
02:20Choose fat, thin, and fit bodies, male or female.
02:24Give your character a name, a little bit bigger head, customize your eyebrows,
02:26eye socket depth, size of your nose, definition of your nose, cheekbones,
02:30how big their chin is, how square their chin is.
02:32Choose all the different hair colors, hairstyles, all the different kinds of hats that we have.
02:35You can design your own Sims' physical appearance, outfit, and personality.
02:42So the Personality Simulator is this huge feature where we have tons of traits that you can pick from,
02:47and you can assign whichever one you want onto your character,
02:50so they can be a great cook, good sense of humor, a little neurotic, a bit of a slob.
02:54Paranoid Sims, all of a sudden they'll be like looking around.
02:57Excitable one might be getting all sorts of excited and clapping, you're like,
02:59oh, my Sim's excitable, they get really interested in things they're doing.
03:02Stupid looked kind of like this.
03:04Pain looked like this.
03:05Hot-headed Sims are just always angry.
03:07They're just like, ah!
03:09And every Sim can have up to five traits assigned to them,
03:11which is really exciting and allows you to create such a huge, wide variety of unique Sims.
03:15Neurotic Sims just can't cope.
03:17They'll be like, no, I can't do it!
03:19Or a great cook may have that little touch that when they finish off a dish, they're, ah, it's just
03:23delicious.
03:24Over-emotional Sims are always crying, they're always upset.
03:27All these little things that really define someone and make them special,
03:29and ultimately this affects your game in so many different ways throughout.
03:32Oh, yeah!
03:32Go, go, go, go!
03:36We're having the best time on this team.
03:38Oh, yeah!
03:39Dave's lamp again!
03:40We've got the best people to work with.
03:44We create this incredible world that has so much rich detail,
03:48and then we have the added challenge of building it in a system that every player can change and modify.
03:55Some players want to just make characters, some players just want to build houses, some players don't want to do
03:59either, they just want to play the game.
04:00We try to offer them some characters if you just want to pick one, here's some houses if you just
04:03want to pick one, but if you want to go deep, you can go very, very deep.
04:06So you'll see a lot of fans sort of take the game out of the suburbs, into their imagination.
04:11They will build out the sets to their favorite movies, their favorite TV shows.
04:16The game will also offer you the chance to do this really quick and rewarding short-term gameplay so you
04:21can accomplish something and then kind of move on and do something different.
04:25Let's say that your sim really wants to meet this girl down the street and he's dreamt of his perfect
04:29job.
04:29It's up to you to decide if you want to help him do that by promising to get that job
04:33for him or promising to meet that girl down the street.
04:35You'll be able to guide your story and achieve these little bits of, you know, success as you go along.
04:41We have hardcore gamers that play, we have, you know, casual players, and then we have people that have really
04:46never played a video game before.
04:48We want to make sure that it has features that are catered to each individual and that they can get
04:52into it and have fun however they play.
04:54It's silly, it's hilarious, it's this great comedy.
04:56There's so much detail, there's so much humanity in these sims now.
05:00It's actually kind of like real life when you meet somebody and when you interact with somebody on a day
05:04-to-day basis.
05:04We try to take the best parts of life and cram them into one game.
05:27You're welcome!
05:31Thank you.
