00:01:10oh hold the elevator please sorry thank you thank you so much no problem
00:01:34are we stuck yeah
00:01:45Frank the lobby power is out again
00:01:49yeah it looks like the whole grid's down in the looser corridor it looks like we're gonna have to
00:01:53uh show some patience and wait it out sure all right great great oh I don't have any service
00:01:59either do you oh I don't have a cell phone what people survive for centuries without them
00:02:10oh great yeah no dial tone nothing
00:02:21wow it's a it's a little claustrophobic in here yeah yeah there's a little um stuffy in here huh
00:02:28well it seems like we're gonna be here for a minute so maybe we should introduce ourselves
00:02:34yeah sorry I'm uh Jonathan McIntyre hi Jonathan I'm Liberty Taylor and most people just call me
00:02:39Liberty or Libby I mean sorry Liberty that's a uh unique name yeah my mom thought it would be
00:02:46you know a good way to remind me throughout my life that I could be and do whatever I want
00:02:50anything's possible you know that kind of thing that's a good message from my mom yeah I think so
00:02:56well I mean you'd make a a great defense attorney your name alone would inspire a lot of hope in
00:03:01your clients oh is that what you do uh yeah attorney yes but no defense no
00:03:10I mainly do corporate law mergers and acquisitions
00:03:16basically if somebody wants to buy something or sell something or merge a
00:03:19a company I'm the guy who makes sure they're doing everything by the books
00:03:23oh oh that uh that sounds really interesting does it
00:03:31you don't really think so it's okay I'm sorry I don't mean to be rude I just
00:03:35no no don't apologize it's fine it's um it's refreshing actually I'm uh I'm used to people
00:03:41telling me what I want to hear or what they think I want to hear anyway your honesty is a
00:03:46nice change
00:03:47of pace well okay in that case then uh your job pretty much sounds like a cure for insomnia
00:03:55ladies and gentlemen I hope you'll be patient just a little bit longer we are so sorry for the
00:04:01inconvenience our valets are happy to carry luggage if anyone would care to take the stairs up to your
00:04:08rooms
00:04:16so did you always want to be a lawyer no actually um growing up I wanted to be a race
00:04:23car driver
00:04:25but of course that wasn't a very practical goal for the man of the house so I reconsidered
00:04:29oh you're married me no oh no no when I when I said man of the house I meant when
00:04:37I was a kid
00:04:38um oh right my father passed away when I was young and my mother raised me by herself so
00:04:43I'm sorry wow that is it's a lot of responsibility for a little kid I uh school was always really
00:04:52easy
00:04:52for me you know when I realized not only could I get the jobs and and scholarships I wanted but
00:05:00that
00:05:00I had to you know to help out my mother and I'm sorry I I never talk about myself like
00:05:07this I'm
00:05:08rambling no no you're you're sharing about your life and it's interesting so uh what about you I was
00:05:16raised by a single mom too um my parents split up when I was little I wasn't that into school
00:05:21though
00:05:22I was uh more into the extracurriculars oh such as well I um I took all kinds of dance I
00:05:30did a
00:05:30semester of ultimate frisbee I had a failed attempt on the soccer team and I finally realized I really
00:05:36wasn't that athletic so I moved on to music where I played the flute I played the sax I took
00:05:42all kinds
00:05:42of art classes wow you must be really creative I don't know I mean I like to think so yeah
00:05:49but I'm sure you are too I mean your job just takes a different kind of creativity
00:05:54I'm sure there's an artist in there somewhere just dying to come out that's a good philosophy
00:06:00I mean what about you though are you um what's your next creative outlet well honestly I'm eight
00:06:07credits away from finishing culinary school and if I would just go and finish I don't know I feel
00:06:12like I never have time oh it's great though I mean I can't cook a thing I mean I'm when
00:06:17I'm working
00:06:18I eat out and when I'm home I microwave all my food so oh it's terrible cooking is fun I
00:06:24don't know
00:06:25I don't know I mean I can mess up toast
00:06:38I shouldn't be too much longer right I mean oh your tie is a mess sorry sorry do you want
00:06:47me to
00:06:47fix it yes yeah thank you
00:07:01there you're perfect well I don't know if I'd say perfect I mean I still can't cook right right
00:07:11yeah of course if I'm if I'm gonna learn how to cook I'd I mean I'd probably need someone to
00:07:16teach
00:07:17me do you know anyone that could do that or
00:07:22maybe yeah I have to think about that
00:07:32sorry oh I'm sorry
00:07:40wow
00:07:47so this was uh this was fun actually being trapped in an elevator with you yeah it was we should
00:07:54do it
00:07:54again one time I mean without the elevator of course right of course but maybe a cooking lesson
00:08:00yeah cooking lesson that would be nice all right well um I'll see you around okay bye
00:08:17Jonathan Alan made it how are you let's get you a drink yeah everything going okay yeah fine thank
00:08:24we're here tonight to talk about a young man who I am very excited about and feel just privileged to
00:08:31have uh in the four walls of our organization this young man has made his ascent in this firm seem
00:08:38practically effortless with the exception of tonight when he was harshly overruled by a powerless
00:08:44elevator as he was trying to come up to the dinner so I welcome him as a new partner I
00:08:51thank all of you
00:08:51for coming tonight I hope you will enjoy yourselves and without me standing here and pumping your head
00:08:57any bigger than it already is so that you'll ask for more money I'll give you ladies and gentlemen
00:09:01Jonathan McIntyre
00:09:08thank you thank you thank you Alan
00:09:13okay before we uh start to eat I'd like to say a few things I'd like to thank the
00:09:18founding partners for welcoming me as an equal to the firm that they helped build from the ground up
00:09:24um now all your names are at the top of the letterhead I know that I won't forget that anytime
00:09:29soon
00:09:30um but I will now as a partner uh continue to represent Schuster Barron and Clyde the individuals
00:09:36and the firm to the best of my abilities Alan Richard Grace thank you so much for this amazing
00:09:42opportunity this wonderful dinner uh thank you all for being here and sharing this with me it means a lot
00:09:47to me I look forward to working many years with all of you here thank you
00:09:54yeah could everyone stand and let's have a salute cheers
00:10:00cheers cheers cheers
00:10:07I'm making partner it's very impressive for someone so young
00:10:12um no wonder Kim but uh just a workaholic
00:10:15oh yeah well I know what that's like cool
00:10:18that's right Nick said you're an executive VP at your firm
00:10:21uh yeah started out as account supervisor and I work my way up
00:10:26are you like me all work not enough play yes I know exactly what you mean
00:10:33yeah you know people like us we're achievers yeah I mean Princeton Cornell summa cum laude at both
00:10:42you Yale Stanford just Yale and Stanford
00:10:46I bet you were at the top of your class right breaking in the scholarships law review
00:10:52I knew it yeah and now that we've both achieved so much it's like we're we're supposed to go out
00:10:57and get the rest of it you know marriage kids dog running around the backyard but I don't know
00:11:02who has the time for it yeah well I certainly don't I mean the only woman I talked on a
00:11:07daily basis
00:11:07is my secretary and she's old enough to be my mom well I'm uh probably a traitor to my gender
00:11:14but
00:11:15I've really believed in all the fairy tale romance stuff they fed us as kids that's funny I was
00:11:19I was just talking about that the other day yeah right I mean we both worked hard to get into
00:11:24the
00:11:24right schools to get the the right degree the right job you know the right house and cars and
00:11:29all that I mean you know I think a relationship should be approached the same way you you meet
00:11:33the right person and you you work at it yeah a relationship is a partnership as well and really
00:11:39when was the last time you met someone and felt some immediate lightning bolt connection
00:11:46so what's up i met a guy what we got stuck in the elevator on the way to the catering
00:11:53event the
00:11:54power went out okay tell tell that's the thing I don't know he was so like sweet and charming in
00:12:00the elevator and then he just totally ignored me at the dinner he was really rude okay wait wait so
00:12:05he
00:12:05was at the dinner where you were serving yeah he was the guest of honor he just made partner in
00:12:09his
00:12:09law firm Libby that's it he's got a snooty job they don't talk to the help you know at least
00:12:15not
00:12:15in front of their snooty friends I don't know I mean yes he was definitely a buttoned up kind of
00:12:19guy
00:12:19but there is something about him he was sweet I don't know Lib it's no coincidence that you were put
00:12:29on that elevator and it's no coincidence that it got stuck there is a reason and what reason is that
00:12:34I don't know oh that's so helpful thank you okay all right um maybe you were put on that elevator
00:12:42with that guy that night to learn a little something about yourself or maybe the lesson
00:12:49wasn't yours to learn what do you mean who knows maybe grumpy mcgrumperton went home that night
00:12:55and learned a little something about his rude behavior from your shining example
00:13:10how was your date Cynthia she's nice I like her um she's attractive and you were right we had a
00:13:17lot
00:13:17in common okay so you weren't blown away all right but take her out on a second date like a
00:13:23real date
00:13:24you know you go to go to dinner take her to the movies it's not like there's anyone else you're
00:13:28interested in right is there someone else you're interested in dude do not hold out on me I might have
00:13:36met someone at the partnership dinner her name is Libby there were no single chicks at your partnership
00:13:41dinner no actually we uh we got stuck in the elevator together on the way up so did you ask
00:13:47her out
00:13:47uh no not exactly um she's a culinary student so I don't know I might have asked for a cooking
00:13:55lesson
00:13:56smooth nice but when we got off it turns out she was a a waitress for the dinner
00:14:05Jonathan buddy come on forget about elevator girl okay because you just became partner at one of the
00:14:16largest law firms on the west coast you're not dating a waitress your bosses are your peers now man
00:14:24I mean you gotta be socializing with them and and with the right kind of girl on your arm you
00:14:29know
00:14:30uh you know what you should do you should host your own dinner party I mean you're one of them
00:14:35now man huh yeah I guess Rosie Jonathan's gonna host a little uh dinner thing at his place
00:14:48oh you know what you should invite Cynthia make it a second date I'll bring Catherine yeah okay buddy
00:14:54good idea all right well I will leave you to it thank you
00:15:05I assume you'll need a caterer yes Jonathan I couldn't help it over here are you sure you want
00:15:12to ask this Cynthia woman I mean it sounds to me like you hit it off with someone else well
00:15:16I mean I
00:15:17should see Cynthia again and besides the other woman I uh I screwed that up yeah I was just
00:15:24I was so surprised that she was actually working at the dinner you know I I just felt weird talking
00:15:31to her I was kind of rude anyways wasn't meant to be right well I don't know I think if
00:15:39it's meant to be
00:15:39you might see her again perhaps don't you worry about a thing I'll take care of everything thank you
00:15:53you are never gonna believe this guess what I got a catering gig as the cook wow I didn't know
00:16:00you
00:16:00were gonna start a catering company I I wasn't but this woman called and she said she got my name
00:16:04from
00:16:05the hotel oh well in that case you know that isn't creepy at all who is this woman you're gonna
00:16:11end up
00:16:11tied up in her basement somewhere I hope not but that's why maybe you should go with me and be
00:16:16my sous
00:16:16chef please no please please please no I microwave exclusively I just need you to help me prep and serve
00:16:23it's really not a big deal and I will pay you you don't have to pay me okay then fine
00:16:27we'll barter okay
00:16:29you help me do this and I will uh watch page so you and marty can go out on a
00:16:33date night date night
00:16:35oh I think it's too warm to do a soup Jonathan you've got to get going you're having people to
00:16:42your place this evening oh right uh thank you again rosemary for all your help really appreciate it
00:16:48my pleasure all you have to do is go home meet the caterer and she will take care of everything
00:16:55after
00:16:56that all right great uh what was the name of this caterer again oh I tried to get mr schuster's

00:30:51you deserve something good in your life rosemary i have a lot of good things in my life
00:30:57okay you included but everything good in your life you've had to work for be nice if somebody was just
00:31:03there for you and besides me of course i would like that but i like to work i always have
00:31:12i know sometimes i just think that's what my life is about
00:31:17jonathan i know it feels that way now but you are going to see there are so many things in
00:31:23life besides work
00:31:32wow this is beautiful well wait till you see what we got planned thank you
00:31:38let's do it appreciate it you ready yeah okay
00:31:46this fruit is delicious well i thought you'd like it
00:31:52so have you always lived here uh no i grew up on the east coast actually i studied law went
00:31:59to a very
00:32:00preppy school there really yeah my mom thought it would be a good opportunity for me um of course
00:32:07she didn't have to wear the you know blazer and tie to school every day but you know she was
00:32:10right
00:32:10in the end it served me well what about you did you did you grow up here or go to
00:32:16college here
00:32:17no didn't do the college thing i kind of took more of the life experience route
00:32:22i traveled a lot i went to europe i took a sculpting class in italy i worked at a pizzeria
00:32:28there and i
00:32:28learned how to toss the dough yeah um i worked at a farm in the south of france i learned
00:32:36how to make
00:32:36goat cheese goat cheese i love goat cheese yeah me too i sketched the rooftops in santorini i lived on
00:32:43the beach in australia waited tables there at the beach and learned how to surf then i kind of
00:32:48finished it all up with an actual vacation in hawaii and then i uh came home that's amazing wow
00:32:54what do you do after a world tour like that i went to massage school that makes sense cheese
00:32:59surfing painting massage school um and now you're back to finish culinary school yes okay yes hopefully
00:33:08i will graduate and get a job and i mean if i can figure out what they put in the
00:33:11sauce um
00:33:13i'm pretty sure it'll all be worth it well to new adventures then tears
00:33:26so uh you know being a race car driver wasn't looked on by my mother's being very practical
00:33:31she wanted me to be a doctor or a lawyer i chose the latter
00:33:36and you know fortunately i uh i passed the bar before she died i'm sure she was very proud
00:33:46yeah so what about you well i moved around a lot when i was a kid so that made a
00:33:51new school
00:33:51every year or two i became very good at making friends i mean i could talk to anybody
00:33:56what yeah that's obvious you're very good at it are you saying i'm talking your ear off no no no
00:34:03i'm just saying sorry yeah as a lawyer i'm used to listening and uh you make this easy i'm very
00:34:13happy
00:34:13to hear that i mean so with all the moving around and and starting over you're probably pretty close to
00:34:21parents huh with my mom yeah yeah my dad split when i was three and he traveled a ton he
00:34:29was a
00:34:29trucker he worked in an oil rig off the gulf of mexico he led hiking expeditions in alaska and the
00:34:35grand canyon wow i mean that must have been hard though you know not have him around no no i
00:34:41mean he
00:34:42always wrote me postcards from his travels he was an adventurer he's one of my big inspirations really

00:35:54what would that meal have cost i know but that's not the point tesla you took me there because he
00:35:58thought i would like it and i loved it okay it's just that that usually you hate those kinds of
00:36:04places you're always saying that you pay more for the ambiance than you do for the food oh the food
00:36:08was delicious i had the best time okay okay okay look i know this isn't normally the kind of guy
00:36:16that
00:36:16i would be interested in but oh there's just something about him i really wish you could just be happy

00:44:10That was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Thank you.
00:44:13Well, I'm glad you liked it.
00:44:15But, you know, it doesn't have to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
00:44:18What do you mean?
00:44:20Well, I mean, Rebecca liked you.
00:44:22You know, and she seemed very impressed by your cooking skills.
00:44:25Really?
00:44:25Yeah, Libby, I bet if you finish culinary school,
00:44:28she'd be more than happy to give you a spot in one of her kitchens.
00:44:31And I happen to know that she's opening a new restaurant,
00:44:34and we'd just close the deal.
00:44:37Wow.
00:44:38Yeah, think about it.
00:44:39I mean, you'd make an excellent chef, Libby.
00:44:43Plus, yeah, just my personal opinion.
00:44:46I think you'd look pretty cute in one of those hats.
00:44:49Yeah, especially the big poofy one.
00:44:52Yes.
00:44:54Those were awesome.
00:44:57Hey, thank you so much for doing this tonight, Marty,
00:44:59and I really needed a night out.
00:45:01Yeah, of course.
00:45:03You've just been so busy with the lawyer guy.
00:45:05Jonathan.
00:45:07Yeah, if you actually met him, you'd probably remember his name.
00:45:09I have met him.
00:45:10Oh, I know, but I mean, really need him.
00:45:13I'd love for you to spend time with him.

00:47:20Hey, happy birthday.
00:47:23Hi.
00:47:24Hi.
00:47:25Oh, this is for the birthday, girls.
00:47:27But wait, I do just have a question.
00:47:28How do you feel to be so old?
00:47:30I can't even remember being five anymore.
00:47:33Because it was so long ago, yesterday.
00:47:37Hey, want to say thanks?
00:47:39You're awesome.
00:47:40Now go put those on the table with your other gifts, okay?
00:47:45So, where's Jonathan?
00:47:47He's here.
00:47:47He's hanging out with Marty.
00:47:48Oh, you left him alone with Marty?
00:47:50Well, we got to fix that.
00:47:53So, uh, Libby tells me that you're a lawyer?
00:47:56Uh, yes.
00:47:57I'm mainly in MA at, uh, Shishi Berry and Clyde.
00:48:02What about you?
00:48:03What do you, uh, do?
00:48:04I'm a plumber.
00:48:06Uh, Sullivan Pipe Preservers.
00:48:08Yes.
00:48:09That's cool.
00:48:10Well, thanks for having us.
00:48:11Cheers.
00:48:13Good job.
00:48:15Come on.
00:48:15Did you see the Dodger game last night?
00:48:17I think Manny cracked it out.
00:48:19Uh, well, I work so much.
00:48:20I don't really have time to follow baseball.
00:48:22But it's a great sport.
00:48:24Oh, no, it's awesome.
00:48:25Daddy!
00:48:27Hey, girls!
00:48:28Ugh!
00:48:29You done playing already?
00:48:31Oh, this thing was thirsty.
00:48:33Hey, birthday girl, I want you to meet my friend Jonathan.
00:48:36It's nice to meet you, Paige.
00:48:37Nice to meet you, too.
00:48:39Uh, now, Paige, forgive me.
00:48:41I don't know you very well, so I was just wondering, are you a princess every day or just today
00:48:46on your special 6th birthday?
00:48:48Well, I'm a princess every day.
00:48:51But I don't show it off all the time.
00:48:53Only on special.
00:48:55Well, I think that's a good idea, Princess Paige.
00:48:58Because it's your birthday.
00:48:59It's awesome.
00:49:00I've got this old 57 I'm fixing up.
00:49:02It is gorgeous.
00:49:03Hey, Jonathan loves cars.
00:49:04Tell him.
00:49:05Oh, no, uh, well, not exactly.
00:49:08I paint model cars.
00:49:11You mean like kid cars that you fix up and you can ride?
00:49:13Uh, no, models.
00:49:15Like, uh, you know, um, toy cars.
00:49:18Uh, classics mainly.
00:49:19I mean, they're not for playing with, of course, but they're for display.
00:49:22Oh, Paige, tell them about the one that I painted.
00:49:24It started with a V.
00:49:25Viper.
00:49:26Viper.
00:49:26Viper?
00:49:27Oh, man, a Viper.
00:49:28Well, you guys remember Mr. Chavez from the old neighborhood?
00:49:31He had that Camaro that he said had a Viper engine in it.
00:49:33He said he found it at the dump.
00:49:34The old man couldn't get that thing to go above 40.
00:49:37It was awesome.
00:49:39I wonder where he is.
00:49:42Perfect.
00:49:45So is this the best birthday party you guys have ever been to or what?
00:49:48Pretty much, yeah.
00:49:49I think so.
00:49:50Did you try to cook it yet?
00:49:54Now?
00:49:56Dude, this has nothing to do.
00:49:58I can't even tell you.
00:49:59It's perfect.
00:50:00Happy birthday.
00:50:01Here you go, sweetie.
00:50:02Did everybody get a piece of cake?
00:50:04You got some cake?
00:50:04We need a paper towel.
00:50:06Everybody needs a paper towel.
00:50:07Here we go.
00:50:11Excuse me.
00:50:12Oh, sorry.
00:50:13Oh, you're fine.
00:50:15Oh.
00:50:16Oh, do you want to come here?
00:50:17What?
00:50:17Here we go.
00:50:18Here we go.
00:50:19Here we go.
00:50:19You guys want to come here?
00:50:20There, enjoy.
00:50:20The power is here to wear.
00:50:23Of course.
00:50:24Yeah, it's out here right now.
00:50:26It's about it.
00:50:37I don't mean to sound harsh, but I don't, uh, I don't think that your Jonathan is having
00:50:45a very good time.
00:50:47What are you talking about?
00:50:48He's having a great time.
00:50:50Oh, this is a really fun party.
00:50:54Oh!
00:50:58Oh, God.
00:50:59I'm going to call you back, all right?
00:51:15Hey, Jonathan.
00:51:16Oh, Nick.
00:51:17I'm not in the mood to hear your comments about Libby, all right?
00:51:20Dude, we have bigger issues.
00:51:23You inverted the stock price on the Keller Agreement.
00:51:26Instead of $51 a share, this says that the Bell Corporation is buying out 60% of Keller's
00:51:33stock at $15 a share.
00:51:36You think Keller was skittish before?
00:51:38With these prices, he can't even afford our fees.
00:51:40Did the partners see this?
00:51:41No.
00:51:42I caught it first.
00:51:44Listen, John.
00:51:45I get what you see in Libby.
00:51:46I do.
00:51:47Trust me, I have dated my fair share of party girls.
00:51:50Libby is not a party girl.
00:51:51But you're a partner now.
00:51:54Okay, now is not the time for you to be getting distracted or making mistakes.
00:51:59And I know you're going to think I'm a jerk and a snob for saying this, but come on.
00:52:03Libby is never going to fit in your life.
00:52:08I mean, wouldn't a nice thing be just to end it now before it gets too complicated?
00:52:34I don't think I'm going to fit in your life.
00:52:39I don't know.
00:52:40Jonathan?
00:52:42You all right?
00:52:45I don't know.
00:52:51I remember when you told me that you have to pay attention to certain people who enter
00:52:55your life.
00:52:55Sure I do.
00:52:56I mean, how do you know if that person is the right person?
00:53:00You know, what if the best thing to do is let them go?
00:53:02And how can you tell the difference?
00:53:04Those are all good questions.
00:53:07Is everything okay with you and Libby?
00:53:10I don't know.
00:53:11I just, I lead a very structured life.
00:53:14And Libby is the exact opposite.
00:53:16I'm not used to that.
00:53:18That can be a good thing.
00:53:20You can learn from each other.
00:53:23And Jonathan, you know, the answer to a good relationship is compromise.
00:53:30It's confusing, you know?
00:53:32You are the one that solves problems for a living.
00:53:38Well, million-dollar mergers seems like child's play compared to this.
00:53:51Oh, I better get going at our early meeting in the morning.
00:53:55All right.
00:53:59Sorry.
00:54:00Oh, hey, I keep forgetting to ask you.
00:54:02Marty and Tessa have two extra tickets to the Dodger game tomorrow night.
00:54:06You want to go?
00:54:07I can't.
00:54:08I have dinner with clients tomorrow.
00:54:10What about the next night?
00:54:12Um, no, I got a catering gig.
00:54:14How about the next night?
00:54:16Uh, let me see.
00:54:18Let me see.
00:54:19Um, uh, no.
00:54:22Actually, I'm out with Nick that evening.
00:54:24What about this weekend?
00:54:25Well, Friday night I'm DJing a Sweet 16.
00:54:28And then Saturday I'm cater-waiting at a wedding.
00:54:30And then Sunday is the spa.
00:54:34I mean, Lib, don't you ever want to pick one job and stick with it?
00:54:37I don't know.
00:54:38I mean, why should we have to pick one thing?
00:54:41One thing can be so boring.
00:54:42I know.
00:54:43I just, I worry about you.
00:54:44You know?
00:54:46It's like if life was an ocean.
00:54:49I mean, most of us are constantly swimming towards something.
00:54:52You know, some goal or a plan.
00:54:54And I don't know.
00:54:56You just kind of let the current drag you around.
00:54:57Just because I don't have everything planned out like you do, I mean, that doesn't mean I'm being just dragged
00:55:04around.
00:55:09Look, everyone is afraid to fail.
00:55:13Okay, but you're never going to succeed unless you fully commit to something.
00:55:17I mean, I know you feel like you're probably protecting yourself, but you're really just missing out.
00:55:21That's just your opinion.
00:55:22I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.
00:55:25I mean, you spend all this time planning everything.
00:55:27You don't even end up living anything.
00:55:30All right, I don't want to argue.
00:55:31No, we're not arguing.
00:55:32Okay.
00:55:33I don't want to argue.
00:55:33I just, I want you to be happy.
00:55:35That's all.
00:55:35I am happy.
00:55:36I mean, aren't you happy?
00:55:38Of course.
00:55:38Yes.
00:55:38Okay, so then, let's just be happy.
00:55:43Okay?
00:55:43Okay.
00:55:46Oh, and make sure we have lunch together.
00:55:48Okay.
00:55:51I'll see you.
00:55:52Okay.
00:55:53All right.
00:56:03Hey.
00:56:04Hey.
00:56:04Is Jonathan ready for lunch?
00:56:06Oh, he's not back yet, Libby.
00:56:08Oh.
00:56:09Okay, give this to Richard upstairs.
00:56:11ASAP, all right?
00:56:13Can you get O'Donnell on the line, please?
00:56:16Hey.
00:56:22Are we still going to lunch?
00:56:23Oh, Libby, I can't.
00:56:24All right, something came up.
00:56:25I'm sorry.
00:56:26Weren't you just saying there's more to life than work?
00:56:29I mean, there's nothing so important.
00:56:30I can't wait an hour so you can get something to eat.
00:56:33Actually, that's not true.
00:56:34All right, this entire deal could fall through within the hour it takes me to go to lunch with you.
00:56:37My job is very important to me, Libby.
00:56:39Please try to understand that.
00:56:40Rosemary, do you have him?
00:56:41Line two.
00:56:43Hello?
00:56:44Yes, Mr. O'Donnell.
00:56:45Yes, yes.
00:56:46I got the contract right in front of me, sir.
00:56:47I know these aren't the numbers we agreed on.
00:56:49I know, I'm not happy about it either.
00:56:51But I talked to his assistant, and I don't know what happened.
00:56:55But I'm going to fix it for you, sir.
00:56:56I'm on it.
00:56:57Don't worry.
00:56:57You have nothing to worry about.
00:56:58Thank you, sir.
00:57:13Thank you, sir.
00:57:14Rosemary, did Libby call?
00:57:23Okay.
00:57:42I'm sorry.
00:57:45What are you doing right now?
00:57:51Spending time with you.
00:57:56Thanks.
00:58:00Where are we going?
00:58:02You'll see.
00:58:03It's a surprise.
00:58:06Oh, there's Jake's.
00:58:07They have the best burger in town.
00:58:09You want to go?
00:58:09Yeah.
00:58:15Wow.
00:58:17Good.
00:58:18Yeah, we didn't know it when we left on our adventure today,
00:58:20but apparently we were on the hunt to find the world's greatest hamburger.
00:58:24Can I have some fries?
00:58:25Whoa, whoa, what are you doing?
00:58:26That's my fry, actually.
00:58:28It's fun.
00:58:29Fun.
00:58:31I can share?
00:58:32Okay.
00:58:32You're missing out on the fun of riding.
00:58:35You're spending half your life deciding.
00:58:37What exactly you should be looking for.
00:58:43Like a stream, we're rolling right along.
00:58:46Like the wind, we'll blow right by, we're gone.
00:58:54Like a storm comes crashing in the night.
00:58:57We're opening our window to the light.
00:59:05I'll be fine as long as you are in my sight.
00:59:16Hmm.
00:59:19Sorry.
00:59:19It's okay.
00:59:22Hello?
00:59:22Jonathan, where are you?
00:59:24You missed the conference call.
00:59:26What?
00:59:26I had to tell Mr. Schuster that you got food poisoning.
00:59:28Oh, I can't believe I did that.
00:59:30I lost track of time.
00:59:31I went on a drive with Libby.
00:59:33We went to this town and...
00:59:34What did I say?
00:59:34She is a distraction.
00:59:36Nick, stop, all right?
00:59:37Whatever.
00:59:37And don't let anyone at work see you eating seafood for a while.
00:59:40Yeah.
00:59:43What happened?
00:59:44I missed my five o'clock conference call.
00:59:46Wait, you made a conference call for today?
00:59:47Yes, I had to.
00:59:48It's for a client.
00:59:50Overseas.
00:59:50Come on, we gotta go.
00:59:52Oh, man.
01:00:07Look, I'm sorry I yelled, all right?
01:00:09It's not your job to consider my work schedule.
01:00:11Well, I mean, no, it's not.
01:00:15When I'm with you, I lose track of time.
01:00:17I can't focus.
01:00:18Is that such a bad thing?
01:00:20Well, it's not a good thing, Libby.
01:00:21Being with you, it's like you take me out of my world, okay?
01:00:24And in some ways, that's great.
01:00:26But in others, it's not.
01:00:28I just made partner at my firm, which means I gotta pay more attention to my work.
01:00:33I mean, I made a huge mistake on another deal and now this.
01:00:36Well, maybe today is a sign that we should take a break.
01:00:41No, Libby, that's not what I'm saying.
01:00:43I just, I don't want to fight.
01:00:44I mean, it's just too hard.
01:00:45What's too hard?
01:00:46Libby, it's our first fight.
01:00:48You know what, though?
01:00:49No, this makes perfect sense, okay?
01:00:51Something gets challenging or difficult and you want to quit.
01:00:54That's a big surprise.
01:00:55Hey, that's not fair.
01:00:56It's completely fair.
01:00:57Libby, you quit everything you start.
01:00:58I do not.
01:00:59Look, I get that not everybody wants to be a corporate attorney, all right?
01:01:02I get that you're creative, but then finish something.
01:01:06One thing, all right?
01:01:07Massage school, culinary school, plan little kids' birthdays for a living.
01:01:10I don't care.
01:01:11Just pick one thing.
01:01:13You know what?
01:01:13Because you can't.
01:01:14Because everybody in your life is okay with you being this free spirit, you know, floating
01:01:18from one thing to the next.
01:01:19And that's great.
01:01:20That's great, Libby.
01:01:21But I thought you could be more than that.
01:01:23And you know what?
01:01:23I was wrong.
01:01:24I was wrong.
01:01:25You're childish.
01:01:26All you want to do is have fun and you never think about the future.
01:01:29The future.
01:01:31The future.
01:01:32God.
01:01:33You know what, Jonathan?
01:01:33All you do is think about the future.
01:01:35You are so concerned with what is coming next that you don't even, you don't even live
01:01:39your life.
01:01:40Life isn't about your perfectly tailored suits and your perfectly organized desk and your
01:01:44promotions.
01:01:45That's not life.
01:01:46Life is a mess.
01:01:47And that's how it should be.
01:01:50You know what thinking about the future has gotten you?
01:01:52It's gotten you this sad, sterile condo.
01:01:56Uptight and all alone.
01:01:57I don't know.
01:01:59I don't know.
01:02:10I don't know.
01:02:14I don't know.
01:02:45Is there any messages, Rosemary?
01:02:46Oh, yes.
01:02:47I noticed Libby didn't call.
01:02:49Is everything okay?
01:02:51No, actually, we broke up.
01:02:53Oh, Jonathan.
01:02:55Just send her flowers.
01:02:57You know what?
01:02:57I know she likes Gerber daisies.
01:02:59Rosemary, let her go.
01:03:01All right?
01:03:02I did.
01:03:14I said, just take it easy.
01:03:16We'll work it out, all right?
01:03:17No.
01:03:20I told them twice.
01:03:22I said twice.
01:03:23Just forget about what we take care of.
01:03:24Let me call you back.
01:03:25I'm at the office.
01:03:26Good.
01:03:26Hey, Jonathan.
01:03:27Alan, I want to let you know I'm looking to take on some more responsibility here at work.
01:03:30So, I mean, whatever you got, throw it at me.
01:03:34Well, I don't know if you've heard any of the rumblings, but we are expanding our international business.
01:03:38What, is it going out to London office?
01:03:39Tokyo.
01:03:41And I'm thinking about sending you.
01:03:43So, give it some thought.
01:03:45But say yes.
01:03:46It's a great opportunity for you.
01:03:49Thank you, sir.
01:03:52Thank you, sir.
01:03:54Come on, Pat.
01:03:56Thank you, Alan.
01:03:57Hi.
01:04:12Okay, great.
01:04:13We'll see you then.
01:04:13Thanks.
01:04:15I just made a three o'clock massage appointment for you.
01:04:17Is that okay?
01:04:17Yeah.
01:04:18Marty can pick up Paige from school today.
01:04:19All right.
01:04:22Rosemary.
01:04:22Hi.
01:04:24This is Rosemary, Jonathan's assistant.
01:04:26This is my best friend and boss, Tessa.
01:04:28Hi.
01:04:29She's the one I told you about.
01:04:30Oh, yes.
01:04:30Well, she tells me that you are the best at what you do.
01:04:35Are you here for a massage?
01:04:37Oh, no, dear.
01:04:38I, uh, I'm actually here to see you.
01:04:44Oh.
01:04:46Well, Jonathan is just miserable.
01:04:50And he is being stubborn, and he won't call you, and, well, I was hoping you would call him.
01:04:57I mean, I know you girls do that sort of thing now, right?
01:05:00Yeah, we do.
01:05:02Look, under other circumstances, normally I would, I'd have no problem calling him, but
01:05:09Jonathan and I were really just not right for each other.
01:05:12Oh, no, Libby.
01:05:13You don't really think that, do you?
01:05:16Yeah, I do.
01:05:19But I will definitely see you again.
01:05:21That's a promise.
01:05:23I hope so.
01:05:25Okay.
01:05:26Well.
01:05:27Bye, sweetie.
01:05:29Thanks.
01:05:34You okay?
01:05:36I guess.
01:05:37You did the right thing.
01:05:38It's time to just forget all that, really.
01:05:41Do you mean quit?
01:05:42Yeah.
01:05:43Well, okay, so your constant need to flee actually comes in handy for once.
01:05:48That Rosemary seems like a really nice lady.
01:05:50She does.
01:05:51It's just that she can't see Jonathan for what he truly is, you know, a total corporate
01:05:55stooge.
01:05:56You could do so much better.
01:05:58He's not a corporate stooge, okay?
01:06:00He's not a rich jerk.
01:06:01He's not some snob.
01:06:03You don't have any idea who Jonathan is, because you never actually spent the time to get to know him.
01:06:07Libby.
01:06:07You know what?
01:06:08You think it's so great that I'm a quitter?
01:06:09Well, you will just love this.
01:06:13I quit.
01:06:21Hey, John.
01:06:23We're all going out for a drink.
01:06:24Come on.
01:06:25Nick, I can't.
01:06:26All right, I still got a lot of work to do.
01:06:28How about no, okay?
01:06:30Stop moping around.
01:06:32You, me, drink now.
01:06:34I'm buying.
01:06:35Black and white
01:06:40Shades of green to the night
01:06:47I put pen to paper and I write
01:06:52I sleep it off, I'll be all right
01:07:04Crawling out
01:07:06Crawling out
01:07:08Of my skin into the doubt
01:07:16Silently scream and shout
01:07:22I'm often worthy soldiers down
01:07:32I'm often worthy soldiers down
01:07:34You have my back against the law
01:07:42Oh, tell me how to end it all
01:07:50And I'll be the first to fall
01:07:53The first to fall
01:08:00Is my crime
01:08:06Prisoner of war
01:08:08I hide
01:08:12I have learned to buy my time
01:08:17Oh, tell me how to end it all
01:08:24You have my back against the law
01:08:31Oh, tell me how to end it all
01:08:34Jonathan McIntyre's office
01:08:35Rosemary, hi
01:08:36Cynthia DuPont
01:08:38Oh, yes, dear, hold on
01:08:40Jonathan, it's Cynthia and she
01:08:47Cynthia, uh, Jonathan is actually in a meeting with the partners
01:08:50Sure, sure, okay
01:08:52Thanks
01:08:53You're welcome
01:08:55Right
01:08:55Goodbye, dear
01:08:58All the noise, all the noise, all the noise I hear
01:09:02God never even makes it clear
01:09:07What keeps me hanging on again
01:09:11Hey, am I too old for this?
01:09:15Paige is too old for that
01:09:17Okay, that's done
01:09:18What do we got over here?
01:09:20Duck mail, duck mail, duck mail
01:09:21A work schedule from six months ago
01:09:26And, um, seriously, Libby
01:09:28This doesn't even have a picture in it
01:09:30No, no, no, this one
01:09:31This one's important
01:09:37Duck catalogs
01:09:39Tessa, I gotta tell you something
01:09:41What?
01:09:43I've been really mad at you
01:09:45Oh, Libby, hey
01:09:46If this is about the whole quitting thing
01:09:48No, it's not about the quitting thing
01:09:50I still quit, by the way
01:09:51Just for the record
01:09:55I just felt like, no matter what
01:09:56You just didn't want Jonathan and I to be together
01:09:59And as sad as I am
01:10:00That we haven't been able to work it out
01:10:03I just realized that we're never going to
01:10:05Unless I make some changes in my life
01:10:07I know that's all you were trying to get me to see
01:10:09So
01:10:10I just wanted to say thanks
01:10:20Hey, by the way, guess what?
01:10:22What?
01:10:23The Keller Bell merger?
01:10:24Yeah
01:10:24Done
01:10:26Jonathan, congratulations
01:10:27Thank you very much
01:10:28And I want to host a party
01:10:29Take care of it
01:10:30I'm gonna eat Nick for drinks
01:10:33I will take care of everything
01:10:38That sounds fun
01:10:40Pretty great
01:10:42Rosemary
01:10:44We have to talk
01:10:51Here we go
01:10:53There we go
01:10:53Okay
01:10:54Oops

01:11:28Okay
01:11:29Thank you
01:11:31And you should just find it about five miles
01:11:33Perfect
01:11:33Bye-bye
01:11:34Thank you
01:12:04Hi
01:12:06Alan

01:12:16So
01:12:17I'll do a jacket coat, please
01:12:26Libby
01:12:27Hi
01:12:28Hi
01:12:31How are you?
01:12:32I'm great, thank you
01:12:33What are you doing here
01:12:34Well, it turns out with all of my past jobs
01:12:37I had a lot of contacts with florists and caterers and photographers
01:12:40So I started my own event planning company
01:12:44Wow, that's...
01:12:46That's great
01:12:47Thanks
01:12:48I love it
01:12:49Makes me really happy to be with people when they're celebrating something special
01:12:52Um, if you'll excuse me
01:12:54Nice to see you
01:12:55Yeah, nice to see you
01:13:01Thanks
01:13:03Jonathan, how are you doing?
01:13:07It's good
01:13:08Um
01:13:10Alan, I know this isn't the best time to say this
01:13:12But
01:13:13I'm gonna have to turn down your Tokyo offer
01:13:15Really?
01:13:17I'm surprised
01:13:18I thought you'd jump at the opportunity of heading up your own operation
01:13:21Oh, sir, this
01:13:22This means so much to me
01:13:24And
01:13:24I thank you so much for even giving this opportunity
01:13:26But, um
01:13:28I just
01:13:29I have some business
01:13:30I need to take care of here first
01:13:32If that's okay
01:13:34Of course
01:13:35You know, you're invaluable to us
01:13:37Jonathan
01:13:39You have to go after the things you want in life
01:13:41Yeah
01:13:42I know that now
01:13:44Okay
01:13:45I'm back
01:13:46Shall we eat?
01:13:47I'm starved
