00:12I remember the first time that I looked up and saw the other half. I saw Asmodee up in the
00:18sky and I was just like, wow, that's the other side, that's where the other players are and it's a
00:24really cool feeling.
00:33I am Lani, also known as Liv. My main character is Liv and that is actually the same name I
00:40go by in the community and she is a sorcerer.
00:46I am many people in game. I really try to play as many characters and classes as I can just
00:52because I get asked so many questions every day about all of them.
01:01One of the first things I say when I meet people and they ask what is Ion is I explain
01:05what the word means. So Ion is the name of the god.
01:09He created the world of Atreia, everything inside the world and all of the resources used to keep the world
01:15running.
01:19Ion is an extremely cool fictional world that's been torn in half.
01:23You know, we create this rich unique ethereal world where we have these two races struggling against each other.
01:32and a third evil faction as well.
01:35You need something in an MMO to tie you down. If it's not your friends, if it's not a guild
01:40or a legion, it has to be the story in the game.
01:43That's what's really cool about Ion is there's a really, really rich lore.
01:48The game is really polished. When you look at the environments, you look at the ambient creatures and you even
01:53look at some of the ambient animations.
01:55It just brings you into the world. It really makes you feel like you're a part of Atreia.
01:59Atreia is the world. Atreia is the planet. So the sphere inside which everyone lives.
02:07And the Tower of Eternity was sort of like the sun. It was the place from whence all energy and
02:12life was bound to flow.
02:13If you kind of think of an apple, like an apple core, that's kind of what it is. Like the
02:18Tower of Eternity runs right through the center.
02:20When you look up in Ion, you see both the stump of the Tower of Eternity, as well as, in
02:24the distance, what might look like stars, but is actually the other half of Atreia.
02:29So we have the upper half of Atreia, which is Asmodee, and the lower half, which is Alicia.
02:34The Eleos have stayed almost true to how they looked a thousand years ago. They have rich beaches and lush
02:42green environment.
02:43And then the Asmodeans, they really had to struggle to survive. And what I think is really cool, their eyes
02:49glow red when they're about to engage in combat.
02:53The major story point, the thing that drives the player to move forward, and kind of the overlying arc of
03:02the main story would be the destruction of the Tower of Eternity.
03:05I think that's really why we're here.
03:08What happened was, is the god Ion created this race, and this race, you know, rose to power and became
03:13known as the Balor.
03:14And this Balor started to terrorize all the humans on, you know, all parts of the world.
03:18And this obviously, you know, didn't go well for either side. There was lots of bloodshed and war and fighting.
03:23And that battle occurred, and the Tower was shattered. Thousands of years went by where they had no idea that
03:28the other side had survived, and they started to evolve differently.
03:31That's when they rediscovered each other in the Abyss. That is in the center of the planet. And that is
03:37home to the Balor. And they are AI-controlled faction.
03:41We have the three factions, the Asmodeans, the Helios, and the Balor all together in the Abyss fighting for eternal
03:47power.
03:48What Ion does really well is it gives you a sense of purpose. And it makes you feel like you
03:53do have an impact in this world of Atreya.
03:55When the player begins playing, there's a sort of a mystery about where they came from and what their destiny
04:01might be.
04:02And it doesn't take long before they realize that they are destined to become, to ascend and become a Deva
04:06and fight in this sort of holy war.
04:08You actually go through a process called Ascension. Ascension is this awakening inside of you that happens through a life
04:15-altering event.
04:16You know, the best part of this is that you actually earn your wings and the ability to fly.
04:20You learn you're immortal and you get wings. It doesn't get much better than that.
04:26We have this element of flight in the game.
04:28Flight, it's added an entirely new dynamic to battle. There's a lot of strategy that goes, that's involved with flight.
04:34A new way of getting around in the world that MMOs haven't been able to do to this point.
04:40The feeling of being in the air in flight is, you know, pretty much unmatched in any MMO out there.
04:46You do start off with a basic set of wings and, you know, they're white on the Eleo side and
04:51black on the Asimodian side.
04:52And that's something that you get to evolve and customize and build upon through the development of your character,
04:57is adding longer flight ability, adding enhancements to your wings so that you can fly longer.
05:02You'll actually see people kind of go into this, you know, do I want to be aerial heavy or do
05:07I want to be kind of a ground trooper?
05:08People are going to have to manage their stats based around that. You're not going to be able to have
05:11everything.
05:12And this will create a diversity and, you know, throughout classes, throughout stats and just more customization in the world
05:17of ION.
05:18It actually leaks into your real life. I went hiking this weekend and I was standing on the top of
05:22Mount Si
05:23and I was looking over the Seattle horizon and I was like, man, if I had wings, this would be
05:28so cool.
05:29I could just like fly down. And I think that you have that same feeling in game where you just,
05:34you know, jump off a cliff and hit space bar.
