00:16Today we're going to be looking at the level of authenticity
00:17that we had to produce for all of the
00:19vehicles and weapons that are in the game
00:25Now I love guns
00:26but how many of you have actually handled
00:27a real gun. I can tell you one thing
00:29it's not like an air gun or anything like that
00:31a lot of these guns are really heavy
00:33for instance when we were doing the motion capture
00:34for Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising
00:36we had to go to great lengths to get the real guns
00:38this is because the weight of these guns can actually affect
00:41the way that the animation looks
00:43We use military specialists in our motion capture
00:46sessions to make sure that our characters
00:48in game move with a lot of weight
00:49like real soldiers do
00:50so we actually loaded the motion capture actors up
00:53with webbing, we put lots of lead in that webbing
00:55to make sure they move with weight
00:56and purpose
00:59We don't show you how many bullets are
01:01remaining in the gun so you have to remember
01:03how many bullets you've fired
01:04you get the experience of being a soldier
01:08So every vehicle in
01:09Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising has its own
01:11characteristics, by this I mean
01:13handling, look, turnout, weaponry
01:15etc etc. Everything from the smallest
01:17jeep to the largest chopper you'll find
01:19a completely different handling experience
01:20but also something that's accessible, you don't need to be able
01:23to fly a flight sim in order to fly a helicopter
01:25in Operation Flashpoint
01:26So when you're driving a 55 tonne tank
01:28that's going to feel very different
01:30to something like a DPV
01:32which is a very light, agile vehicle
01:50we've spent an awful lot of time
01:52researching these vehicles
01:53we've had to capture their engine sound
01:54to get the right hue of paint
01:56we've also of course
01:57had to take these brand new vehicles
01:58and actually beat up and weather them
02:02We've also of course had to take these brand new vehicles
02:02From a tactics point of view
02:04it's very important that
02:06it's hard to see the infantry
02:07camo's vital part of that
02:09you actually find yourself looking for movement
02:12much more so than spotting guys
02:14just as you do in real life
02:15in a natural environment full of bushes and trees
02:19We wanted to make the game different
02:20than all the other shooters out there
02:22in this game you're not a bullet sponge
02:24so we wanted to make the damage model
02:27as realistic as possible
02:29the damage in Operation Flashpoint
02:31is pretty gruesome
02:31it's pretty much realistic
02:33so if you get hit by a large round
02:35you're very likely to have serious trauma to your body
02:38the visual point of view
02:39represent damage in several different visual stages
02:42you've got blood that seeps through the clothes
02:44then you've got catastrophic damage
02:45which is actually the losing of a limb
02:47and you could have your head blown open
02:49your torso opened up
02:50you could lose a leg or an arm
02:51this is all represented and modelled realistically
02:56for Operation Flashpoint
02:57it's very important to get a really nice gritty style
03:00in order to do that we coined this phrase
03:01war is seen through the lens
03:03we use that to inform the visual language we use
03:05pretty much in all aspects of Art of the Gate
03:08we use reportage photography
03:09very striking black and white war photography
03:12that you've seen for all conflicts
03:13from World War II, Vietnam to modern day conflicts
03:16that's typically very high contrast
03:18black and white imagery, very striking
03:20we use that to directly inform the look of the front end
03:23the EGOS technology gives us a lot of post production systems we can use
03:27so film grain, colour cast
03:29and we use each of those to create
03:31a very very unique aesthetic
03:32for each mission and each time of day
03:35with over 60 variations of weapons
03:37in Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising
03:38it's difficult to choose a favourite
03:40however, if you pin me down
03:42I'd have to choose this one
03:43the M4, it's versatile, it's rugged
03:46and it's adaptable
03:47and what's more, if you point it at things and pull the trigger
03:50it kills them
03:52for more personal situations
03:53I prefer to go for a 45 automatic of course
03:56just in case
03:56do my best
03:56just in case
03:56just in case
03:57what does it do
03:57if you're doing
03:57but it's exactly
03:59so yeah
04:02it's definitely
