Un'intervista che svela inedite parti di gameplay per il platform di Nintendo

00:05Hey, everyone, Safiya here at the Nintendo Media Summit in San Francisco.
00:09And I'm joined by Bill Trinin from Treehouse.
00:11And we're going to talk about Super Mario Galaxy 2.
00:13So, we got to see a demo of the game this morning from the presentation.
00:16And we got to get some hands on time.
00:18So what can you tell us, like, what you're showing today?
00:21Well, basically here at the Media Summit is really the first hands on with the game.
00:24Nobody's played it before today outside of Nintendo.
00:26So we're really focusing on the elements that were shown off in the E3 trailer last year.
00:31And that's a big focus on the drill, which is a new mechanic where Mario uses his drill to drill
00:36all the way through the spherical worlds in Super Mario Galaxy
00:39to kind of come out on the other side.
00:41Kind of the nice little puzzle solving involved with that as well.
00:45But, of course, the big kind of visual change is going to be the addition of Yoshi.
00:49And, of course, with Yoshi comes a whole new set of abilities for Mario that simply didn't exist in the
00:53original Super Mario Galaxy.
00:54Yes, Yoshi we did get to see has some new abilities. Can you describe what they are and what they
00:58do?
00:59Well, he starts off by bringing, of course, kind of some traditional Yoshi skills, which includes the flutter kick, his
01:05ability to shoot his tongue out and grab things.
01:07So in Super Mario Galaxy 2, what Mario does is you basically break open the Yoshi egg right on Yoshi's
01:13back.
01:13And you can run around. You point at the screen and press the B button to shoot the tongue out
01:17and grab enemies or grab objects and things like that.
01:20But Yoshi can also transform in a variety of different ways.
01:24And here at the summit, we're showing off two of those.
01:27The blimp Yoshi, where he eats a blimp fruit and expands into this big, like, floaty balloon.
01:33And Mario is, like, gripping him on all sides and they float up into the sky together.
01:37And then my personal favorite of the Yoshi transformations is the dash pepper, where basically Yoshi eats this red hot
01:45pepper and starts running really about one inch out of control.
01:49Super fast. You can run up vertical faces and you can kind of navigate your way along these vertical planes
01:56using Yoshi running at super high speed.
01:58And it's very challenging, but at the same time, it's a lot of fun.
02:02Yeah, you guys are showing off a bunch of different levels.
02:04And could you describe some of them, like some of the highlights?
02:07Well, probably another one of my favorites is actually the very first level in the Media Summit build,
02:12which the purpose really is to just serve as an introduction to the basic Mario mechanics in Mario Galaxy.
02:17But one of the things I've always loved about the game is the ability to kind of do the long
02:21jumps over the smaller planets.
02:23And there's a particular point in that level where there's about three different small orbs positioned all near each other.
02:29And you can actually, one of them, if you do the jump the right way, you can get into complete
02:34orbit and just keep circling around it and around and around.
02:37And the first time I played the original, that was one of the things that I would just sit there
02:41and do over and over again.
02:42Kind of one of those uniquely, like, magical moments.
02:44Beyond that, I mean, obviously they're having a lot of fun with gravity again this time around.
02:49Another one is the upside dizzy galaxy, where there are basically moving gravity fields pulling in opposite directions.
02:58And you not only have to navigate the moving gravity fields, but you've also got to figure out, okay, how
03:03do I get from here kind of up over to here
03:06when the gravity is trying to pull me down this way?
03:08And it involves a lot of puzzle solving in what's essentially kind of 2D platforming.
03:12which is one of the great things about Super Mario Galaxy 2 is it takes basically the core mechanic from
03:18the original game.
03:19And the development team has just spent, I think, like the last however many months they've been on it just
03:25really having fun and unleashing creativity
03:27and finding some really amazing ways to take advantage of what they really created with the original.
03:33Excellent. And now we also have a release date. So when is this game coming out?
03:36It's coming out May 23rd here in North America.
03:39All right, thank you so much for your time. And that was our look at Super Mario Galaxy 2.
03:43Be sure to check back on GameSpot.com for more updates.
