00:00What if I told you that your morning routine, the one you think is setting you up for success,
00:04is actually sabotaging your entire day? That first hour after you wake up is crucial,
00:08and most of us are getting it completely wrong. Let us ditch the modern productivity hacks for
00:13a moment and look at some ancient wisdom from the Stoics. They knew a thing or two about building a
00:17resilient and focused mind, and it starts with what you don't do in the morning. First, and this
00:22is the big one, don't immediately grab your phone. The moment you unlock that screen, you're inviting
00:27a tidal wave of other people's problems, opinions, and demands, into your mind. Emails from your boss,
00:33breaking news alerts, endless social media feeds it's a recipe for instant anxiety and distraction.
00:39The Stoics would call this surrendering your inner citadel before the day has even begun.
00:43Instead, give yourself at least 15 minutes of screen-free time. Let your own thoughts be the
00:47first ones you hear. Second, don't complain. It is so easy to wake up and immediately start listing
00:52off all the things you dread about the day. The traffic, that boring meeting, the pile of
00:57laundry, the Stoic Emperor Marcus Aurelius reminded himself every morning that he would encounter
01:02difficult people and situations. By complaining, you're choosing to focus on the negative and
01:06framing your day as a burden. This is something you have complete control over. Instead, try to find
01:11one thing you're grateful for, or one thing you're looking forward to, no matter how small. It
01:16completely shifts your perspective. Third, don't rush. We often wake up with a jolt, frantically rushing
01:22to get ready and out the door. This state of hurry puts your body and mind into a fight-or
01:25-flight
01:26mode from the very beginning. The Stoics valued intentionality, they believed in doing things
01:30deliberately and with purpose. Russing is the opposite of that. It's mindless action driven
01:35by panic. So, try waking up just 10 minutes earlier. Give yourself the space to move slowly,
01:40to breathe, to simply exist, without the pressure of a ticking clock. And finally, don't make
01:46decisions on an empty mind. Do you want to immediately start planning your entire day or trying to solve
01:50complex problems the second you open your eyes? Your brain is still booting up.
01:54The Stoics practiced a morning meditation, not to make big plans, but to prepare their minds for
01:59the day ahead. They would contemplate their own principles and values. Give your mind time to
02:03warm up. Few minutes of quiet reflection, journaling, or even just staring out the window can do more for
02:08your decision-making abilities than diving headfirst into your to-do list. By avoiding these four common
02:13morning mistakes checking your phone, complaining, rushing, and making premature decisions you're,
02:19reclaiming your morning and setting the foundation for a more intentional, calm, and effective day.
02:24It's not about adding more to your routine, but about taking things away. Give it a try and see
02:28how it changes your day. Thanks for watching, and don't forget to subscribe for more practical wisdom.
