00:25We're looking at Donkey Kong Jr.
00:28This time on the mighty ColecoVision from 1983.
00:35Although Donkey Kong is Nintendo's game, copyright 1982, Coleco handled the conversion for the
00:42Atari 2600 and this version for the ColecoVision.
00:56And there's a theory out there that Coleco made the Atari 2600 version of Donkey Kong Jr.
01:02horrible to somehow make the ColecoVision look better because this version of Donkey Kong
01:07Jr. looks far better than the Atari 2600 version.
01:11I have no idea if that's true personally, I don't think that would make any business
01:15sense for them to do that.
01:17And I think that Donkey Kong Jr. on the Atari 2600, while not visually impressive, is not
01:23a bad game.
01:25No matter how you look at it, the ColecoVision is a more powerful game console than the Atari
01:292600.
01:30It's also several years newer.
01:33Therefore, it's no surprise that this version of Donkey Kong Jr. looks better than the version
01:37on the Atari 2600.
01:39However, this is not as good as the version on the Atari 7800, which came out about 5 years
01:44after this.
01:46I'd say that's a lot of Donkey Kong Jr. history for you there all at once.
01:58I've reviewed the other two Atari versions of the game already.
02:01The gameplay of Donkey Kong Jr. is excellent.
02:04I like the challenge of trying to climb the chains and not get hit by things and dropping
02:09fruit on enemies' heads.
02:15But what's missing here in this version of Donkey Kong Jr. is the level with the electrical
02:21spark things that are running along the floor.
02:29You only get three out of the four levels from the arcade version here in Donkey Kong Jr.
02:35on the ColecoVision.
02:36That's really the major drawback to this version of the game.
02:40Other than that, it looks good.
02:41It sounds great.
02:42The sound effects and music, as you can hear, are far more crisp and clear than they are
02:47on the Atari versions.
02:53Gameplay is solid.
02:54It's not bad.
02:54I think that the 7800 version is still my favorite as far as how you control Donkey Kong Jr.
02:59In this one, you want to make sure to grab things with his hand and not his head.
03:07Realism coming from the ColecoVision.
03:10See, if they can have that kind of realism, why can't they bring Fear 2 out on the ColecoVision?
03:17Ghosts, post-apocalyptic wasteland, flickering light, and all-out gun battles.
03:22I think that the ColecoVision could be pushed to its limits to play Fear 2.
03:28Come on.
03:30There's still a market for it.
03:32Maybe it'll have to be one of those two cartridge box sets to fit it all into the ColecoVision cartridges,
03:40of course.
03:43You could have a two-cartridge Fear 2 box set that comes with the ColecoVision expansion module X12 and retails
03:52for $49.95.
03:58And the ColecoVision expansion module X12 would also come with an additional power supply just like the Sega Genesis and
04:07Sega CD add-on.
04:09Because as we all know, more power supplies means more power and better video games because of it.
04:19That makes logical sense.
04:22Anyway, the additional power supply would be a fusion reactor.
04:26There's no question that would be the most powerful ColecoVision expansion module ever created.
04:35And environmentally friendly.
04:37I've gotten off subject once again.
04:40That never happens around here.
04:42There's not much more I can say about Donkey Kong Jr.
04:45It's a wonderful arcade game.
04:48And I like this game every bit as much as the original Donkey Kong, if not even a little more.
04:54I just like the levels in Donkey Kong Jr.
04:57I think it's terrific fun, challenging, entertaining.
05:00And hey, I'll see you in the future for a review of the ColecoVision expansion module X12.
05:07If I can get one through customs.
05:09Importing a fusion reactor is always challenging.
