00:04My name is David Langlieres, I'm a creative manager at THQ and I'm going to give you a sneak peek
00:10at Metro 2033 today.
00:13We're jumping up in the game to a station known as Black Station in the game.
00:18It's overrun with these, sort of these fascists, these neo-Nazis within the metro tunnels.
00:24So in the world of Metro, each one of these stations has essentially become its own city-state.
00:31They have their own morals, their own beliefs, their own specializations.
00:34And so this one is, of course, hostile, being that it's overrun with Nazis.
00:44What took you so long? Hey, where's Pavel? Did he...
00:48All right, later.
00:50So this game is developed by 4A Games, they're out in Ukraine, and it's running on the 4A engine.
00:57It's a brand-new engine, proprietary in-house.
01:04And this level in particular gives the players some interesting choices.
01:10So they can either go through completely stealth or guns blazing or a combination of the two,
01:16and I'll show you a little bit of each.
01:19The weapon I just picked up here is a VSV.
01:22You can see it's got a red dot sight, a silencer on it.
01:24Very good for moving around stealth.
01:28And you can also see in the game we've absolutely tried to minimize the HUD in the game.
01:33There's no HUD on screen right here.
01:35I have the crosshair turned off.
01:37And most of the game mechanics have been implemented into the models themselves.
01:42So you can see on my watch here, that shows the green light.
01:45We'll show you that I'm completely hidden in the darkness right now.
01:47And also on the red hand on the face there, we'll show you how much gas mass time you have
01:53left.
01:55You can see some of the rudimentary traps here.
01:57They've got a string attached to a log with some spikes in it.
02:02And there's also some rubble on the ground here.
02:05If you step on those piles of glass, you can notify the enemy.
02:08And now we're stuck here.
02:12Yeah.
02:15We need all that.
02:17Uh-huh.
02:19And who is going to feed your kill?
02:20Switched over.
02:20So this is one of our weapons in the game called the Helsing.
02:24It's a pneumatic sniper rifle that uses darts.
02:27The player has to manually pump it.
02:30But one of the advantages is not only is it silent, but the player can retrieve any of the darts
02:34that they've shot.
02:35So if you kill an enemy silently, you can retrieve it again.
02:41What's up?
02:47And the game is very much about ammo and collection and scavenging the environment.
02:55Ammo comes at a very high price in the metro system.
02:58In fact, it's actually used as the currency.
03:01We have two different types of ammo in the game.
03:04Dirty rounds is these rounds that are now created within the metro system itself.
03:09They're not as powerful, but they're in abundant supply.
03:14We also have military grade rounds.
03:16And these military grade rounds were created before the blast.
03:20They're much more powerful, but they're also used as your in-game currency.
03:24So there becomes a balance of do you want to spend those on a new gun, new attachments,
03:29or do you want to keep them and deal more damage with your current weapon?
03:35And if it gets a little too dark...
03:39Oh, that's a gas mask.
03:42Then the player can also arm their night vision.
03:45But both with the night vision and with the flashlight,
03:48the player has to manually charge it using this universal charger.
03:53And so this will slowly wear down.
03:55The night vision will slowly wear down.
03:56You can see the gauge on the charger there.
03:59And you'll have to find a safe place and recharge it if you want to keep your stealth.
04:16Sorry about that.
