00:30We made first person games, you know, you pick up the shotgun and you shoot a bad guy, you know
00:35what to expect.
00:49So in Rage, what we've tried to do is in every new environment that you enter, we give you a
00:55new weapon or a new ammo type or a new engineering item
00:58to keep the experience fresh.
01:00As you play through the game, your arsenal grows and grows.
01:05It's a few different elements that really make a weapon good or satisfying.
01:10When you hit the fire button, it needs to do something on the other end.
01:13And that's where you get the feedback from blowing a head off or seeing a cool death animation.
01:20You know, I've always loved shotguns in all of the id games especially.
01:24I think if we didn't have a shotgun, a lot of fans would be upset.
01:27But the crossbow, because it's so different and so new, it's almost like this utility weapon.
01:33My favorite weapon in Rage is the Wingstick.
01:36Let me guess, you want to know how to throw a Wingstick?
01:39The Wingstick is an offhand instant throw weapon.
01:43The Wingstick is such an iconic weapon.
01:45It's this bladed death boomerang and it has like a smart nano targeting core is some of the mythos that
01:52we've built into it.
01:53And if you time it right, you can chop the heads off the mutants with it.
02:00We have these things we call gadgets or engineering items.
02:03Things like a little remote control car with a bomb attached to it.
02:07Now you're building this little defense turret.
02:10If you have the parts and you have the plans to build it, you can build these anywhere in the
02:15world.
02:15So now you're running around here firing and instead of just tossing a grate or just throwing the Wingstick,
02:20you're tossing down a little defense turret.
02:23We have other more complex engineering items as you progress through the game.
02:27Things like sentry bots that are automated robots that shoot all your enemies for you.
02:33If you utilize some of the other gadgetry items, you can make it a thinking man's game.
02:39But it doesn't stray too far from our core mechanics. It's one button.
02:42It all follows the same principle.
02:46I pay nicely for quality goods.
02:48There is an economy. And when people first think about the economy, they think RPG.
02:53But the economy is really your tool to manipulate how you want to play the game.
02:57It really is this player choice mechanic.
03:00So if you're picking up this cash and these other cool items, then you sell it and you pick which
03:05ammo you want to buy.
03:08When you get these new things, you'll want to try it out.
03:10And when you do, you learn how that impacts you as the player and how you want to approach the
03:14situation.
03:16But at every step of the way, we never want the inventory to get in the way.
03:20It's there for a reason. It always has a purpose.
03:23But we still want to stay true to that kind of action.
03:29The world in Rage is about survival and all the elements that the player will need to succeed in surviving.
03:37It's up to them how they want to use those gadgets, weapons and ammo types.
03:41Along with the action shooter experience role that we intend for the player to take.
03:46We create these different options in the gameplay when you get into an area with all these various implements of
03:51death.
03:52Or, you know, you may not want to have any strategy.
03:55You just may want to kick in the door, pull out your big shotgun and start blasting away at the
03:59bad guys.
04:01We really give players the opportunity to engage the enemy AI in the way that's best for them.
04:08And we feel that that adds a lot of life and replayability to the game.
04:22We'll see you next time.
04:24We'll see you next time.
04:28Bye.
