00:00one day in paris is really not enough unless you know what i'm about to tell you i'm french i
00:05live
00:05in paris and here's what i'd do if i only had a day to visit first of all you really
00:10want to be
00:10strategic there's so much to do in paris so you'll really want to follow my advice especially on the
00:16things to avoid which i'll tell you about later to start your day right you need to pick one thing
00:21you absolutely want to do and do it first thing in the morning when there's no one there because a
00:26lot of places tend to get really crowded later during the day so if you've never been there
00:30before i recommend you go to montmartre montmartre is the neighborhood around the sacré coeur which
00:35is this big church it's really cute you really get the vibe of paris like it's portrayed in the
00:40movies and you'll also have the opportunity to experience the real paris if you follow my tips
00:45here just walk in the streets before anyone is there you'll see a really cute cobblestone streets
00:49colorful houses and even a vineyard which i really like plus you'll get to see a really nice view
00:55over all of paris and also views on the eiffel tower just by walking around also montmartre is
01:00really close to cool local areas that no one really goes to like the area around the lamarck
01:06metro station which is really beautiful and local and only a 10 minute walk away from the sacré coeur
01:11but my main advice to visit the main area of montmartre is to either go really early in the morning
01:16or
01:16late at night because it tends to get really crowded also whatever you do do not eat there like
01:22seriously look at all these crowds and all of these souvenir shops does this look like a place
01:27where you'll find a hidden gem or even a good place to it i don't really think so so here
01:32follow
01:32my advice of never never never eating near a main highlight and instead just walk 10 minutes south
01:38and explore the south pigal neighborhood where you can go to one of my favorite bakeries for a little
01:44breakfast so i have a map of paris with over 200 places i've personally been to and liked in the
01:49description but the one i'd recommend for you today is mamiche i've spoken about mamiche before
01:54it's a really cute neighborhood bakery that also has a location in south pigal you cannot go wrong
02:00with this bakery just get anything you want there and if you've never had one before of course get a
02:04croissant after that just walk around in the south pigal neighborhood it's really beautiful and way more
02:09local and they should take you the rest of your morning until it's time to get lunch so for lunch
02:14here
02:14i really want you to keep in mind that french lunches are a long experience you will not be in
02:21and out of a sit-down restaurant in less than an hour so plan accordingly and either get a sandwich
02:26to
02:27go at a bakery or really plan to sit down and enjoy your lunch so here since you only have
02:31a day you
02:32really want to be trying some staples of french food and there's two types of restaurants i recommend
02:37you go to the first one is a creperie creperie is where you eat crepes so go ahead it craves
02:43you have
02:43two types of crepes salty crepes and sweet crepes so that is a full meal sit down and enjoy them
02:50the
02:50second type of place you should be trying is a bouillon a bouillon is a type of restaurant where
02:54you'll find cheap and traditional french food the one i personally recommend all the time on the
02:59channel is bouillon pigal which is conveniently located right between pigal and montmartre and
03:04their menu changes all the time but last time we went there with bobby we had steak frites which is
03:08just a steak with fries which is really delicious and served with a special pepper sauce but you can't really
03:13go wrong with anything they have since they serve a bunch of different traditional french foods and
03:19you'll really guarantee to find what you're looking for there okay so after lunch you're ready to walk
03:24again and here we're gonna pick one neighborhood to visit we're just picking one we're not trying to do
03:31too much more on that in a bit and the big mistakes to avoid if you only have one day
03:35here i recommend
03:36you pick one of these two neighborhoods which are beloved by locals but also have a lot of things to
03:41do in them and before i tell you about them i need to tell you about today's sponsor babel babel
03:45is a
03:46language learning platform that teaches you real world practical conversations in french or in the
03:51language you choose one of the main pieces of advice i give on the channel is to try to learn
03:56a bit of
03:57french before traveling to paris and babel will help you do just that their lessons prepare you for
04:02traveling to france and include a ton of useful content both on their app and in their live online
04:06classes especially around food for example they have these lessons i really like that teach you
04:12how to talk about the main regional french foods i always recommend here le cassoulet babel is designed
04:18to help you learn a language in just three weeks and they also have a 20-day money-back guarantee
04:23so
04:24you can just get started right away click the link in the description to get 60% off your subscription
04:29and let me know in the comment what language you want to learn thank you so much to babel for
04:33sponsoring
04:33this video and let me tell you about the two neighborhoods you should absolutely visit during
04:38your 24 hours in paris the first one is le marais le marais is this neighborhood it's a really nice
04:44neighborhood if you like culture if you like shopping there's a bunch of different cute streets
04:48and parks a lot of different galleries and you should just go there and walk around and be a bit
04:53spontaneous the other one i recommend is the odeon saint germain area it's the area next to the jardin
04:58de luxembourg which is the luxembourg gardens it's a really beautiful area it's a bit more upscale
05:03and it has really nice cafes and also my favorite champagne shop if you want to bring some goodies
05:08home in any case i really recommend do whatever you enjoy doing in these neighborhoods you're in
05:13paris for a day but you're here to have fun and enjoy life so don't spend that day running around
05:19and trying to do all the highlights just do something you enjoy and that brings me to my next part
05:24which is what you shouldn't do if you only have a day in paris so let's talk about all the
05:29mistakes
05:29you should avoid and what to do instead the first one is we don't want to go inside the highlights
05:35for example you don't want to climb on top of the eiffel tower you don't want to go into le
05:39louvre
05:40this will take way too much time and you don't have time you only have a day in paris just
05:45be aware
05:45that if you go into the highlights that's the one thing you'll be doing today you'll spend at least half
05:50a day in one eye light half a day in another and you know there's nothing wrong with going to
05:55paris
05:56and only wanting to see le louvre if that's what you want to be doing but just know that it
06:00will
06:00take you all day and plan accordingly and by the way this advice is valid with any big museum in
06:05paris
06:06they tend to take a lot of time to visit instead spend your day doing things you actually enjoy doing
06:12for example here are a few really cool things some of my friends who visited wanted to do recently the
06:18first one is getting lost in markets and supermarkets just looking at the foods and selecting the best
06:23foods to bring back home if you like eating and food shopping paris is really the place for you
06:28you can go to any supermarket you don't need to specifically plan for that just walking around
06:33and stopping when you see a good food shop or big supermarket is enough another one was buying
06:38skincare products apparently french pharmacies are really famous and the skincare you can find here
06:43is way cheaper than what you can find in the us there's also this shop that i really like called
06:48aromazon which has basically every cool skincare product at a super cheap price and definitely makes
06:55for a really nice gift to bring back home and also the other one i really loved is having a
07:00fancy
07:00picnic with champagne so in france it is perfectly legal to drink alcohol outside so it's something we
07:07often do and a lot of my friends who come here want to have a picnic and drink wine or
07:12champagne
07:12outside in any case i really want you to be efficient with your time choose a few areas to visit
07:18don't try to do too much don't spend hours in transport prefer to walk around this way you'll
07:23see more stuff and try to stay in an area that's central and well connected i've made a full video
07:29about it but in general for you here if you only have a day to visit i'd avoid the suburbs
07:34and ideally
07:35i'd recommend trying to find a hotel or an airbnb that's close to the places you're gonna visit but
07:40don't feel like you have to plan every little second of your day instead just leave a bit of
07:44room for spontaneity for discovering new things that are not in the guides that are not on youtube
07:51you'll do that very easily by walking around and try to find a balance between doing the things you
07:56want to be doing and being open to whatever you discover during your day in any case here's what you
08:01should be doing at night first of all if it's sunny you should have what we call an apéro
08:06an apéro is a type of little drink slash meal right before dinner so here what you're gonna
08:11do is grab a bottle of wine a few cheeses you can find that at any supermarket and then go
08:16sit by the
08:16river so this is also a great opportunity to have some eiffel tower views while avoiding the craziness
08:22around it so a lot of areas right around the eiffel towers are really crowded there's also a massive
08:27line to go to the eiffel tower i don't recommend you go on top of it if you only have
08:3224 hours to visit
08:33instead go across the river and find a place to sit and have an apéro you can really find some
08:39great
08:39spot without too many people and it's the perfect place to take a chill have a drink with a view
08:44right before dinner so i told you our lunches were pretty long but dinner is a whole other beast it
08:49can
08:49take several hours it has many different courses and this is where you really want to take your time
08:55and enjoy the food and you've really understood it from this video but once you accept that you can't
09:01see all of paris in a day you can actually enjoy your 24 hours in paris and that's just the
09:07reality
09:07you need to accept that you'll need to come back if you really want to experience paris paris is a
09:11city you can spend a lifetime exploring so right now you've just barely scratched the surface and
09:16if you want to discover even more of paris when you come back you should watch one of these videos
09:21i'll see you there
