00:07I'm Todd Batty, Creative Director on SSX
00:09I'm Jeff Coates, Environment Art Director for SSX
00:11This is Part 1 of the SSX Massive World Video Series
00:15So starting with the interface inspired by Google Earth
00:17There are nine major regions around the world to select from
00:20Within each one of those regions there's multiple mountains
00:22And on each one of those mountains there's multiple drop points
00:25So we use NASA topographical data as the foundation for peaks in the game
00:29We take that data and we run it through Mountain Man which is proprietary software
00:33And we got to a point early in development where we could literally type in the latitude and longitude coordinates
00:37of any mountain in the world
00:38Press a button and Mountain Man would create a three dimensional model of that mountain in just under 28 seconds
00:44So with that let's just jump right into our first region, the Himalayas
00:48So the Himalayas are really about two very distinct different styles
00:52At the lower altitudes it's all about the Great Wall of China
00:55You're going to be able to jump over that, ride down it, grind along the edge of it
00:59The statues, the prayer flags, all things that give that region a unique sort of look
01:03At the higher altitude though, the Himalayas is one of the most gnarly epic regions in the world
01:08The deadly descent is something we call thin air
01:11So here the terrain is much more craggy and rough
01:14And it makes it really difficult to get down the mountain quickly
01:16But that's something you're going to be trying to do before you run out of oxygen
01:19So the Himalayas overall have these two amazingly contrasting styles that we think make it an incredibly rich experience
01:25Our next region is Alaska
01:28And you know when we look at Alaska
01:29Definitely one of the most iconic landmarks even in the world is the Alaskan Pipeline
01:33So we thought it would be really cool to build a gigantic SSX version of the Alaskan Pipeline
01:39That you could ride and grind on top of these huge pipes
01:42So in Alaska you start by going down these crazy ridge lines
01:45That open out into this valley and there you see the Alaskan Pipeline
01:48Now you can get up on the pipeline, ride down it, avoid avalanches, jump off and get back on again
01:54Takes you all the way down through the valley down to the finish line
01:57So in Alaska you're literally going to have snow crumbling underneath of your board
02:01And every run poses huge risks of avalanches
02:04Overall I think Alaska provides an incredibly unique gameplay experience across the board
02:10So next up we have Siberia
02:11You know Siberia stands in stark contrast to the Himalayas and to Alaska
02:15Definitely one of our darker environments
02:18So Siberia is one of my favorite tracks from a visual standpoint
02:20It's got a really oppressive stormy feel to it
02:22You'll be going down the mountain
02:23When you come around the corner you're going to come out into an abandoned nuclear plant
02:27There's going to be lots of opportunities for big tricks, big air, all kinds of stuff
02:31It's one of our widest maps
02:33There are literally hundreds of different ways to get down the mountain
02:35But we couldn't talk about Siberia without talking about ice
02:38Because that's what the deadly descent is in Siberia
02:40And all of the maps and all of the tracks and all the mountains you're going to find in Siberia
02:44Have very little snow
02:45The ice definitely brings a completely unique wrinkle to the region of Siberia
02:50So that wraps up part one of our Massive World video series
02:53Keep an eye out for part two
02:55Where we're going to go through Patagonia, Antarctica and New Zealand
02:58And thanks for watching, see you next time
