00:00Infiltrate
00:20Infiltrate was released on the Atari 2600 in 1981 by Apollo Inc., a very short lived game company that never
00:27produced any standout games.
00:29In Infiltrate, you'll take control of a secret agent that's sent to an enemy fortress to recover documents, and shoot
00:35down enemy agents that try to kill you.
00:37The documents that you're trying to collect are, um, these rectangular blocks that go from the ceiling to the floor,
00:43so you have to use your imagination here.
00:46And the enemy agents look more like monsters than they do people, so you have to use your imagination here
00:51too.
00:52The place has a strange elevator system. They're all positioned in a scattered formation, they each go only to certain
00:58floors, they're constantly changing floors, and they can't be controlled.
01:02You'll have to suspend reality for that one.
01:05Everything's blocky, even for Atari. The animation isn't too good, and you're always stuck on the same screen throughout the
01:11whole game. You'd think that they could at least move the elevators around a little.
01:15So the game doesn't look all that great visually, but how about the gameplay?
01:19Well, it's fast-paced, but sometimes it can be a little too fast.
01:23To get on an elevator, you'll have to wait against the edge of the floor, and you'll automatically get on.
01:28If you try to use the joystick, you'll pass across the elevator to the other side of the floor.
01:32The sensitive and somewhat sloppy controls can make it tough to get the desired effect on a consistent basis.
01:39You also can't shoot through the elevators. There has to be a clear path between you and the enemy.
01:43And you can't shoot while you're on the elevator either. But the elevator's not a safe zone, cause they can
01:48shoot you.
01:49Needless to say, a lot of adjustments needed to be made in this game.
01:53One hit kills you too, but thankfully you can duck.
01:56You can't fire while ducking, but at least you can duck on the elevator, which at least alleviates your problem
02:01of being helpless while you're traveling on it.
02:03There's an alternating two-player mode, as well as difficulty settings where you can adjust the speed of the enemies
02:08as well as make them invisible.
02:10You can only see them when they take the elevators.
02:13It's pretty unforgiving since you're just assuming which direction they go.
02:17You start out with three lives, and every 10,000 points awards you with an extra life.
02:21When you grab the document on the top floor, a new one appears on the bottom floor,
02:25and once you get that one, it's back up to the top and so on and so forth.
02:29The object is to get as many points as you can until you ultimately die.
02:33It's not a bad game. It can be enjoyable if you're in the right mood, but there are definitely some
02:37flaws and the game doesn't offer a whole lot of depth.
