00:20One year after its arcade release, Venture was ported to the Atari 2600.
00:24You control a guide, named Winky for some reason, and explore a dungeon which contains four
00:29rooms patrolled by hall monsters.
00:32You can't do anything to attack these hall monsters, all you can do is avoid them.
00:36The object is to go into each room and grab the treasure, which is usually guarded by
00:40three of these wandering creatures.
00:42Now here's where you can actually use your weapon, which is supposed to be a bow and
00:45arrow.
00:46The control is pretty good and you can fire in eight directions to take them out, although
00:49running into their corpses before they disappear will kill you.
00:53If you take too long to get the treasure, one of the hall monsters will show up in the
00:56corner and attack, much like Evil Otto did in Berserk.
01:00This guy's indestructible, so get your treasure in and get the hell out.
01:03You move slow as hell, too, so don't be overly patient with firing at these guardians.
01:08After getting the treasures in all four rooms, you'll advance to the next dungeon to take
01:12on four new rooms.
01:13After that it's back to the beginning again, and this time the enemies are a bit faster.
01:19Keep in mind that there's no indication of which rooms you finished.
01:22You'll have to keep track of which ones are left yourself.
01:24If you're looking for a graphical masterpiece, even by Atari standards, then this definitely
01:29isn't it.
01:29The rooms are just lines, the background is plain, and the monsters look like shit.
01:34The gameplay is pretty decent, but it's slow paced and doesn't take too long to get old.
01:38It really could've used more substance, or at the very least it could've included one
01:42of the dungeons that were scrapped from the original arcade version.
01:46So to sum it all up, give it a try if you want to kill five to ten minutes, but
01:50after
01:50that you'll shut it off and probably won't play it for a while.
