01:07The man who came from the favela, from the periphery, and is there until now.
01:10Journeys led the one of Charles Oliveira about what this sport is all about.
01:16He was kind of known as a guy who fell apart.
01:19And he just turned a corner and then became the baddest motherfucker in the weight class.
01:24Not just the baddest motherfucker in the weight class, but one of the best motherfucker in the sport.
01:27One of the most accomplished mixed martial arts athletes of all time.
01:44He's a true finisher, hyper-aggressive.

02:37Man, that Hawaiian warrior is something else.
02:40You know when I get into a fight, it's going to be a fight.
02:42If you tell me I can't do something, I'm going to tell you, watch me.

02:47That's it!
02:48That is it!

02:50I go out there and make fans remember moments.
02:53Holloway just told them, they're right here!
02:56Everybody acts like they want to do that.
02:58Max is the only guy that actually wants to do it.
03:00Oh!
03:02Oh!
03:03That'll do it!
03:04With one second to go!
03:06Wow!

03:10My God!
03:11In a fight, he's winning!
03:12That's a B or not!
03:14That's what the f***ing BMF is all about.
03:17That's why Max Holloway is beloved.
03:20All I gotta say, I'm him!
03:22I'm him, guys!
03:24I can't go through my career and say this guy was in a boring fight.
03:27Same thing with Charles Oliveira.
03:29He's a fan favorite, and I'm a fan favorite.
03:32I'm just going to say you're welcome right now,
03:34because he has everything for a treat.
03:37This would be a rematch.
03:38These guys fought in 2015, ten years ago.
03:41Oh, it looks like an injury.
03:43Oh, no!
03:44It ended in a f***ed way, so we're going to run it back.
03:47It took ten years, but we'll finally get to settle and finish business.
03:51At that time, when I fought with Max, I was just a jiu-jitsu guy.
03:55And today, I'm the MMA guy.
03:57The Charles Oliveira that you see standing in front of you is a nightmare.
04:00Oh, and now a big right hand!
04:03Tardews got down!
04:04If you want a war, I'm in the war.
04:05If you want to get out of the war, I'm going to get out of the war.
04:07Oh, my goodness!
04:09This dude's right here, man!
04:11He's a very dangerous guy, but at the end of the day, my self-confidence is unbreakable.
04:18If there's a fifth round, ten seconds left, I'm always down to point down, no matter
04:22what way the fight is going for me.
04:24Holloway going off the plate!
04:26That's a real warrior!
04:28If Holloway me call me, I'm going to say to him, let's go.
04:31We're going to deliver his life here.
04:33We're going to see who he is, who he is, who he is, who he is.
04:38Wow!
04:39Power from Charles Oliveira!
04:41I'm going to go out there and fire my heart out.
04:43I know I'm going to hit him a lot.
04:45He's going to give up, or I'm going to make him play.
04:49Holloway sending a message tonight!
04:51No matter how much I'm suffering, I don't want to stop.
04:54I'm not going to stop.
04:55I'm ready, you know?
04:57It's now, it's my time.
05:21I want to say to him, yo, I'm gonna ¡ACCRA pueda ресur知道!
05:30and what I mean!
05:31I'm ready, you know?
05:32I'm ready, you know, I'm almost done.
05:37He's gone.
05:39I've been faithful to you, open you.
05:40I'm ready, you know, I'm ready, I've been fatal.
05:45I'm ready, you know, I'm buena.
05:46I'm ready, you know, I'm losing to you!
05:49All you've been living, my change already.

10:19incredible fighter and individual.
10:21Because we've got to watch him grow up in the Octagon.
10:24Him and Charles Oliveira have been around for so long that we saw them as children.
10:28Max had...
10:29I told Max the other day I go broke.
10:31Your head went to your ears.
10:33When you started, you were like a small head with big ears.
10:36Because you were so young.
10:38But now you're a grown man that's done so many great things.
10:41And he doesn't run away from anything.
10:43And that's why people love him.
10:45That 10-second point thing is so nerve-wracking for his family and for the people in his corner.
10:51But he does it because he wants to entertain.
10:53And he will go fight you anytime, anywhere.
10:55Who goes to New Orleans to fight Dustin Poirier in a retirement fight?
10:59Max Holloway, that's who does it.
11:01He's a tremendous boxer, cardio for days, and just a world champion.
11:06And if he can defend the BMF title for the second time, he can really start to say,
11:09Hey, I deserve a shot at a 155-pound belt.
11:13Sean, don't look at me.
11:14The wealth of experience that these two men carry into the octagon is just absolutely extraordinary.
11:23I'm so happy that he's decided to fight the remainder of his career at 155.
11:29I think at 155, he's extraordinary.
11:32Just an all-time great Max Holloway and an honor to watch him perform.

16:09If you want to touch me, you're in now.
16:10God bless.
16:13Oh, boy.
16:15Oh, man, it's going to be good.
16:17Oh, man.
16:17This is going to be so good.
16:20It is amazing to look around at all the fans, and to see the relative excitement on their faces as
16:26to what they are about to watch.
16:27Who could have been going crazy?
16:29Who could have been going crazy?
16:29Who could have been going crazy?
16:29Who could have been nuts, man?
16:32Here we go.
16:33BMF title is on the line.
16:35Charles Oliveira in black.
16:37Oh.
16:37Max Holloway in the floral chunks.
16:39Big leg kick by Charles.
16:40Another one.
16:41Oh, my goodness.
16:44If you remember, Alexander Volkanovski found a lot of success with low kicks with Max, but they weren't hard like
16:51Charles throws him.
16:54Oh.
16:55Good one.
16:56Oh.
16:56Holloway followed it up with another jab.
16:58Nice combo by Max.
17:02Oh.
17:05Oh.
17:06Oh.
17:06Early takedown for Duke Brooks.
17:08Wow.
17:09Man, did you see Charles grabbing?
17:11He's so big and strong.
17:12And this is worst case scenario against a guy like Oliveira.
17:16When you're still trying, you have to grapple with him like this.
17:19And he is a sensational jujitsu expert.
17:24One of the best to ever do it.
17:27But we saw that in the fight with Ganrod.
17:30Oh, yeah.
17:31I mean, Ganrod is so good.
17:33Such a dangerous grappling.
17:34He was lost.
17:35Tied him up.
17:36Yeah, he was lost against Charles.
17:41Neon Belly.
17:42Look at this.
17:43Just advancing.
17:49Dominating on the ground here.
17:53Side control.
17:54About a minute gone by round one.
18:0022 career submission wins for the UFC's all-time leader, Charles Oliveira.
18:05This is a bad, bad position for Max.
18:13Max has got to be better careful here.
18:15Giving his back up.
18:16This is very dangerous.
18:18He better attack those hands.
18:20Charles is as good here as anyone.
18:22Anyone.
18:23And so good at staying on your back like this.
18:27Oh, he's on the face.
18:29Oh, man.
18:30He can tap squeeze.
18:32He can tap him from there.
18:33He can tap him from there.
18:36You cannot give your back against Charles Oliveira.
18:40This is terrible.
18:41Terrible for Max.
18:42Just across the face, he could put him to sleep.
18:46All the way turning into the choke.
18:48Trying to fight the hands.
18:49Out for now.
18:50Max is doing a great job defending there.
18:52But it's so dangerous here.
18:54This is such a bad position while they're dry.
18:57And Max is on his...
18:59Oh, it's getting tighter.
19:01Full strength.
19:02If I'm Max, I'm going back to my back.
19:05I'd rather have him on top of me in the side control a half guard than this.
19:10The thing is, Oliveira's not going to let him.
19:12Especially in the position they're in right now with his back to the cage.
19:15To prevent Max from squirming out of this.
19:20Holloway has been submitted one time in his career.
19:22It was his short notice UFC debut against Dustin Poirier when he was 20 years old.
19:28Max is doing a really good job of defending here.
19:31The problem is Oliveira chains them.
19:33He attacks one side.
19:34He attacks the other side.
19:36You defend one.
19:36He's setting up a trap on the other side.
19:39And it happens really fast.
19:41It happens really fast when the neck slips under.
19:44The arm slips under the neck.
19:46I remember the Dustin Poirier choke.
19:48Right?
19:49He was punching him a little bit.
19:50Dustin thought he was defending and all of a sudden banned.
19:53Justin Gaethje also.
19:54All of his submissions.
19:56He almost lures you to sleep and then next thing you know he's submitting you.
20:05Oh, big elbow from Oliveira still maintaining control of the back.
20:19Holloway defending well.
20:21He's doing a great job of defending right now.
20:24He's just hand fighting the whole time.
20:27Peel.
20:28Seal.
20:28He peels it.
20:29He seals it.
20:30Keeps moving sides.
20:31Never allowing Charles to truly get a hold of Munch.
20:35He's got one more minute to survive.
20:37And it's all about survival right now.
20:38Yeah.
20:38That's it.
20:39Just defend and survive.
20:41Oh.
20:47Neck crank.
20:50Oh, that's fun.
20:51Good job by Max.
20:53Excellent defense by Max.
20:55I just don't know that you're going to submit Max Holloway with a neck crank.
20:59We have to put him to sleep or get it in and choke him.
21:04A wide smile from Holloway.
21:18All the way.
21:19Perhaps understanding that he is going to make it through this round and realize a second.
21:26And what does this have an effect on Charles?
21:28This was an ideal position for four minutes when you were fresh.
21:32And you couldn't submit him.
21:34That's true, but complete domination in the round.
21:37Yes, domination.
21:40And an easy takedown.
21:42And now you got to do it again though.
21:43And hurting him standing up too.
21:49You got to reset.
21:51And reset.
21:55Good.
21:56He feels strong.
21:57Inside position.
21:59Can't get lazy.
22:01You got to stay in the middle.
22:07He's going to come out tired.
22:08He's still going to do it.
22:13Use the front kick and go right.
22:15You saw how you dominated.
22:17Listen.
22:19Right now, you know he's going up a little bit.
22:21Look, he's going to try to go over you, okay?
22:23He's going to try to put the hand over in that left shoulder of yours, okay?
22:30I believe it was Michael Nakagawa who asked Max Holloway if Charles felt strong.
22:34He responded, no.
22:37Holloway survives round one.
22:3810-9 Olivera.
22:42Charles credited with two submission attempts in that opening round.
22:44The first fighter to even be credited with an attempt on Holloway since Poirier back in 2012.
22:53Oh.
22:54Olivera's corner after more.
22:56Front kicks up the middle.
22:57Max has got to get on his bike moving like that.
22:59Yes.
22:59Max has to hit him and move.
23:03Body kick is there for Olivera.
23:05Oh.
23:06Olivera times the take.
23:07Times the front kick.
23:09Gets to the body of me.
23:10Olivera is so strong.
23:14He just lifts him up in the air.
23:17He throws out Max.
23:21So about 30 seconds into round two.
23:23Another takedown for Olivera.
23:25And the dangerous thing for Holloway is they aren't hard takedowns.
23:31No.
23:31He's not wasting energy getting these takedowns.
23:37It just shows how physically strong Charles is.
23:40He just hoists him up in the air and slams him.
23:42It's like Khabib and Islamic.
23:44They take the single, lift you up, then trip the other leg.
23:47It's an amazing takedown if you can do it.
23:49Now he's got the back trip.
23:50So he caught the wrist over there and pulled Max away from the octagon side.
23:55He's just so dominant on the ground.
23:57It's such a different level than anything Max has experienced before.
24:01When we asked these guys earlier in the week, I said,
24:04where's the biggest gap?
24:06Is it your...
24:08Oh, my goodness.
24:09Oh.
24:10I said, is it your grappling over Max?
24:12He goes, I can strike with him.
24:14He goes, I don't think Max Holloway can grapple with me.
24:17He's got a rear naked choke with the arm in.
24:20Yeah.
24:20And this works.
24:21And if Max turns back towards him, arm triangle.
24:23Well, especially with the length that Oliveira has, this could be it.
24:28It's tight.
24:29It's going to get tight here in a second.
24:32Max is doing a good job of putting pressure on the choking arm to keep it away.
24:37Using his right arm to pressure that choking arm to keep it from fully sealing off his arteries.
24:44Right.
24:46But, man, this is a dangerous place for Max Holloway.
24:50A lot of pressure on the chin and the jaw.
24:53Oh, he's going under the jaw.
24:55He's got it.
24:57Max is in real trouble here.
25:01Wow.
25:01This is the definition that Oliveira needs to do.
25:05He's got to start landing shots.
25:07It's the only way to open Max up.
25:09But he's doing this from that body triangle, so Max can't even get out of there.
25:13He's so big for this weight class.
25:15The fact that this guy caught at 145 is crazy.
25:18Well, I think that contributed to a lot of the problems that he had early in his career.
25:22Because he was so weak just from making the weight.
25:26Max needs to get that body triangle foot on the other side.
25:29Try to get weight on it to use his feet to try to break Charles Oliveira's left leg out of
25:35the body triangle.
25:36Cannot let him sit with his knee on the mat.
25:37Yeah, he's trying to do the weight on that foot to put pressure on that ankle.
25:44Big slicing elbows from Oliveira.
25:46Oh, Max didn't like that one.
25:48These are hard.
25:51He's on the right side with the body triangle now, but let's see if Oliveira adjusts and just mounts him.
25:59Oliveira is just a kicker.
26:00He's a monster on the ground, man.
26:02He is a constrictor.
26:03No, this is tight.
26:04Oh, he's in trouble.
26:05He's in real trouble.
26:07Now this is tight.
26:09But Max just keep right in the hands.
26:10Wow.
26:12Just tells you about Max Holloway, right?
26:14He will not give up on himself.
26:15So many guys will tap to that.
26:18You gotta think he spent a lot of time in this position in training.
26:22But with who, right?
26:23Is he doing it with a guy at this level?
26:26This is the thing.
26:27When you go in there with a jiu-jitsu guy that's at that level, it's so humble.
26:32Because he's got no chance offensively on the ground.
26:36He's just surviving.
26:41He's gotta survive another minute here in round two.
26:44Oliveira maintains his body triangle.
26:46He's gotta be very careful of that sneaky right hand too.
26:48Because the right hand is under his armpit right now.
26:51But he's gonna continually adjust it.
26:53Make him defend one side and then set up the other side.
26:56And then perhaps trap one of the arms.
27:00Now right here, Holloway needs to start using his feet to try to kick Charles' left foot.
27:06And move it forward so he can try to slip that body triangle off.
27:10Yeah, you see him doing that now.
27:11Yeah, he's gotta use his right foot to slide it away from him.
27:15And then try to then use his knee to come back inside.
27:21For submission attempts thus far north of eight minutes of ground control time for Oliveira.
27:28It's another completely dominant ground for Charles Oliveira.
27:34If you're Team Holloway, you have to tell him he cannot give up takedowns.
27:37Now, if I'm playing devil's advocate, the one thing Charles did not do is much damage on the top.
27:43He could've beat on Max a little bit more to kind of get him tighter and a little bit more
27:48beat going into round three.
27:52Look at this takedown.
27:54Trips him on top.
27:56And look at this elbow.
27:57Yeah, more of that.
27:58From the back.
27:59Nasty.
28:06Underhooks to defend the shot.
28:07Old school wrestling style.
28:08If not, you can do lower hand position.
28:10Block the wrist.
28:12Okay?
28:12Just make sure one protects while one defends.
28:17Faster on the feet.
28:18Which is walks for now.
28:20Okay?
28:20Head moves forward.
28:21Be sure.
28:22Dude.
28:23We won the first two rounds by a lot.
28:25By a lot.
28:26He's feeling it right now.
28:31We cannot make mistakes right now.
28:33Okay?
28:33It's a two to one favorite for Max Osney.
28:36Got to be questioning their odds makers right now.
28:39Well, you said it's not for the show.
28:42Yeah.
28:42It was very surprising.
28:44Especially considering the matchup.
28:48Round three of a possible five to decide.
28:52The BMF championship.
28:54Ivan Flores.
28:55Michael Nakagawa.
28:56Rylan Lazarus in the corner.
28:58Holloway.
28:59Wanting him to box.
29:00Yeah.
29:01For those underhooks.
29:02That's very smart, John.
29:03Oh!
29:05They said only boxing for now.
29:07Do not kick if your team Holloway.
29:09But the problem is.
29:11Olivera is a terrifying striker.
29:13Yes, he is.
29:15And since he's not worried about being taken down.
29:18He can throw his reckless abandon.
29:19Yep.
29:21Big right hand from Holloway a moment ago.
29:23Olivera said when he was in the UFC before.
29:26He was a kid amongst lions.
29:29He said now he's the lion.
29:32Oh!
29:34Holloway is able to post.
29:36And stay upright at least for now.
29:39The thing is.
29:40When Olivera has the clinch on him.
29:42He's so much stronger than you.
29:44Yeah.
29:45And Max is not underhooking.
29:47He's got to pummel more.
29:49Like right here.
29:49That right overhook.
29:50Is almost keeping Olivera in.
29:53To his body.
29:54He's got to start digging underhooks.
29:55To try to get Olivera away from him.
29:58Now.
29:59To this point.
29:59This is the first take down that he's actually defending.
30:01It.
30:05Still defending it.
30:08Wow.
30:10Wow.
30:10Wow.
30:10A mid-air adjustment by Olivera.
30:13Wow.
30:15Grinding out of space with that elbow.
30:19Side control for Olivera.
30:22Watch for Olivera to start landing elbows here.
30:27Diego Lima at the shoot box corner.
30:30Calling for some damage to be inflicted by Charles.
30:34Three takedowns on seven attempts for the Brazilian.
30:42And the crowd's booing a little bit.
30:44But honestly this is plan A, B, and C for Olivera.
30:48And when it's working to this level you keep going to it.
30:51Anybody's booing as a casual.
30:53Yeah.
30:54Because this is beautiful grappling by New Bronx.
30:56Full mount.
30:57The way he has moved around Max Holloway is crazy.
31:00Crazy.
31:01Yeah.
31:03Holloway is at least trapped the ankle.
31:06So it's like quarter mount right now.
31:08Up.
31:09Three quarter mount.
31:09Which is still a great position.
31:13But the thing is Charles is literally just looking for submissions the whole time.
31:18Yeah.
31:18He's not posturing and hitting him as much as he possibly can.
31:22He's just trying to find that submission.
31:24It's full mount now.
31:26He's going arm triangle set up here Joe.
31:28Look at his right arm coming apart of the armpit.
31:42Slicing elbow up the middle by Olivera.
31:45Two minutes.
31:46Two minutes.
31:46Holloway came in with a takedown defense north of 80%.
31:55And he saw some 10-8 start to trickle out there potentially in that second round.
31:59Yep.
32:00I saw a little bit.
32:01I saw a little bit.
32:03The game is off.
32:11Less than two minutes here in round three.
32:14This is how you neutralize Max Holloway striking.
32:18You make it a ground foot.
32:19I mean this is complete domination.
32:24It's kind of a shock.
32:25We've never seen Max controlled like this before.
32:29And he fought some really eye-level grapplers.
32:32We've never seen anyone do this to him.
32:35Well, this is the greatest submission artist in the sport.
32:38It really is.
32:40Holloway's got a final way to the octagon side.
32:43He's got it.
32:44But again, you can't give your back.
32:45Because if you give your back, he just takes it and you're stuck there.
32:48He just can't let this dude touch him.
32:50He can't let him grab him.
32:54But Max's style is the pressure.
32:56Right?
32:56And because he wants the pressure to get forward,
32:59he brings himself into the rage that Olivera can grab him.
33:04Oh, nice elbow by Olivera.
33:0650 segundos.
33:0750 segundos.
33:12I wish I could speak Portuguese.
33:14Oh, I need it.
33:15They're yelling out some cool stuff.
33:16That's how to go.
33:20Well, every MMA round begins on the feet.
33:25Charles Olivera has made sure to take this into his world.
33:28Every round.
33:2930 seconds now, round three.
33:30And every time the round starts on the feet, J.A.,
33:33once you've rolled him for 14 minutes,
33:36he's less dangerous than he was at the beginning of round one.
33:40Then he's less when round two starts round three.
33:43By the time he gets around four, that danger level is really low in terms of him and his power.
33:49Right.
33:50And to Joe's point, Charles has been the more effective striker tonight as well.
33:57Tomahawk elbow.
33:58Oh, two blocks through 15.
34:04Right here you see a beautiful knee there by Charles Olivera.
34:09I mean, he was trying to throw a kick and Max almost dipped into the knee.
34:14And then look at this take down.
34:15He steps around to throw him, lifts him up.
34:19Max tries to wrestle, but then Charles just drops the hip, lands on top,
34:23and then they spit that rest of that round on his back.
34:30You can see that Charles Olivera is big.
34:33I wonder what he weighs tonight opposed to Max Holloway.
34:36Because this is the guy that has been a lightweight much longer,
34:39and he looks much bigger than Max.
34:42Okay, he's going to keep crowding at it after a while.
34:44That's okay.
34:45Move it.
34:46He's using the same center to case it ain't working.
34:48We don't stop fighting.
34:50He's smart.
34:51Let's go.
34:51Let's go.
34:54Long block.
34:57All right, tonight's championship rounds are brought to you by Ram Trucks.
35:02Nothing stops Ram.
35:05Well, Charles Olivera told us this week that in terms of his health,
35:08he has never come into a fight week this healthy.
35:11He has also never been more physically prepared.
35:15Fourth round of a possible fight.
35:17Max has got to back up.
35:19Max has got to counter a little bit more.
35:21He cannot go forward.
35:23And you know what?
35:24I saw it just on the belt.
35:25You okay?
35:26Are you sure?
35:26The other thing is, Charles is so comfortable grappling,
35:30he's not fatigued.
35:32This is what he does.
35:33Nice low kick by Charles.
35:41Oh, that's a big stick with that lean hand by Holloway.
35:44That was a good shot there by Max.
35:55Oh, Olivera right in on his hips.
35:57And then when they get to this clinch, Holloway is not reacting fast enough.
36:02I don't think he has anything left.
36:04Look at how Charles sucks him in.
36:05Good job by Max here.
36:08But then he just re-grips.
36:10Right here is when Max needs to be dropping his right hip to get that underhook up.
36:17Coach, Dean Thomas, what do you got?
36:19Well, here's Max's biggest problem.
36:21Other than being outmatched on the ground.
36:23Max is notoriously a volume puncher.
36:26But we do know that he has power.
36:28He has to sit down on his punches when he's in the middle.
36:31Because right now he's volume punching on the outside.
36:33And he's getting mugged trying to volume punch.
36:36When he's in the middle, he's got to sit down on his punches.
36:40I think that was something that we kind of missed on New Bronx.
36:43During that tremendous title reign.
36:45Was his pressure.
36:47His striking.
36:49While he might have got hurt some.
36:51But he would just make these guys back up the whole time.
36:53Like overwhelming them.
36:55And honestly, the only two people that have been able to figure that.
36:58Islam Akachev and Ilya Taboria.
37:01Everybody else has been kind of overran by Charles Oliveira.
37:05He fought a hard 15 minute competitive fight against Ramon Sarokyan.
37:09He did.
37:10And that was a very close fight.
37:13But in terms of just stopping him from coming forward.
37:16It has not been an easy thing to do.
37:20When he did it to Tony Ferguson back in the day when Tony was still Tony.
37:24I thought to myself, wow, Charles Oliveira has really turned the point.
37:28Well, Max Holloway's submission defense has certainly held up.
37:31Yes.
37:32But he has been taken down largely at will.
37:35And once in every round.
37:38Why do Bronx?
37:39In every takedown.
37:42Just led to the end of the round.
37:44He never got up once he got put on the ground yet.
37:48He's been dominated by Charles.
37:52Holloway had never been controlled more than six minutes on the ground in any fight.
37:56North of 14 minutes of patrol time.
37:59I think Charles is dominating the stand up as well.
38:03Especially now.
38:08Oh, nasty.
38:09Oh, that's a big elbow right in front of the booth.
38:11Oh, another one.
38:12Oh, big elbows.
38:13Max is scrambling, but Charles just sticks to him like glue.
38:17Oh.
38:18This is nasty.
38:27Charles may try to capture one of these arms now.
38:31Yeah.
38:31He's hitting him with these heels.
38:33And if Max tries to defend, if he can push down on the wrist, if he can grab a hold
38:38of Max's right wrist in particular, he can capture it with his right leg.
38:42And then Max only has one arm to defend the choke and that's just doom.
38:46Or Joey can take an arm bar.
38:48Yeah.
38:48If Max tries to turn too quickly.
38:50He's got to be careful.
38:51Because this guy has all those skills.
38:52Well, he's punishing his leg with the heel and he can punish the arm with the heel as well.
38:59Max took a look up at the time.
39:08How do you not appreciate this complete domination by a master?
39:13So now he's got the wrist.
39:15See that move that Charles just did right there?
39:17What he's trying to do is catch Max's wrist and push it down.
39:22And if he does that, that's curtains.
39:28Under a minute now to go in round four.
39:32He's punishing the leg with that heel.
39:40He's also trying to get Max's arm off of his left arm.
39:46He might switch to a twister here.
39:47Oh!
39:51Oliveira's been methodical with his strikes.
39:53Accurate as well.
39:56Yeah, look at that.
39:56Oliveira landing 79% of his significant strikes.
40:00I mean, impressive defense by Max.
40:03Yes.
40:04And just the will to survive.
40:07Because he's been put in a terrible situation, a terrible situation from the beginning of the first round.
40:17He's been put in a terrible situation.
40:17All right, 20 minutes down.
40:18Five or fewer to go.
40:41All right, 20 minutes down.
40:43Five or fewer to go.
40:43You can't get him away, but you gotta be smart.
40:45Okay?
40:46And you gotta protect yourself on the way out.
40:49Yeah, after you land, you gotta move after this.
40:51Okay?
40:51Everything we've always done.
40:53No straight back.
40:55Put him down.
40:55Get at an angle.
40:57Get at an angle.
40:58Now you have to faint it.
41:00Faint for...
41:01Let him get lost.
41:02Just to get fainted.
41:04Always with the front kicks.
41:05Okay, guys?
41:06Look at this.
41:08Last round.
41:09Same thing.
41:09Last round.
41:11Just move.
41:12Use your front kicks.
41:14Step on his knee and don't stay still.
41:18Fifth and final round to decide the BMF title.
41:21We'll see if Max Holloway can land something of consequence early in the round.
41:27Charles Oliveira could be one takedown away.
41:32And if you're Holloway, you need this time.
41:34Yup.
41:35You need every second of this fight.
41:43Oh!
41:44Oh!
41:44Big white hand on the follow.
41:49Need a body for Holloway.
41:52Oh, great job of Holloway on top.
41:55Holloway's on top.
41:57This is huge for Max.
41:58Yeah, but I think Max has got to disengage here, man.
42:01You just kind of playing the game.
42:03He needs all this time on his feet to try to go and find a shot that can knock him
42:08out.
42:09Yup.
42:09Because I don't imagine he'll submit him or this will happen.
42:13So I'll do reverse him.
42:14He's gathering up the left ankle.
42:17Yes, he is.
42:18Max has got to do everything he can to prevent this from happening.
42:22But Charles is just moments away from potentially sweeping him here.
42:30Max needs to just start punching elbow and doing everything he can to get damage off on DuBronx.
42:35Because like you said, it's only a matter of time before he reverses him.
42:39If he can get some leverage going back towards Max Holloway, he's gonna come on top here.
42:46He'll start to rock back and forth to try to build leverage.
42:52Holloway trying to make some of these shots count.
42:56They just don't have any power to him in that position.
42:58And he should start sprawling.
43:00And he should start sprawling.
43:00He's gotta start sprawling getting his hip back from Charles.
43:09There it is.
43:10There it is.
43:10Right, he's rocking and rolling.
43:12As he gathers up that left ankle.
43:14That's gonna be a problem.
43:17Max should just stay here and stall.
43:19Get a restart.
43:20He should stay here, right here.
43:22And just try to stall to get put back to his feet.
43:29There it is.
43:29Yep, see?
43:30There it is.
43:30Yeah, I mean it's a matter of time.
43:32With Olivera.
43:33He's gonna go back and get a takedown.
43:35There it is.
43:37Nice shot by Mark Conner.
43:38Allowing the athletes to work through it under three minutes now to go.
43:42It felt like they were gonna do a restart for a second there.
43:46But Holloway didn't disengage.
43:48And I think in that moment when Max ended up on top,
43:51he should have made a choice to get back up,
43:54to try to find that shot that he could have ended the fight with.
43:58The problem with even disengaging in that moment of releasing the hold on him,
44:04you give Charles an opportunity to grab a hold of you.
44:08So on his way up, he could have got reversed there.
44:10But where do you think Max's best chance was to finish?
44:13On the feet or on the ground?
44:14It has to be on the feet.
44:16Yeah.
44:16But even on the feet, it doesn't look like he has the firepower.
44:19Charles has been winning the striking battles.
44:21Yes, that's the problem.
44:22And with bigger power.
44:24I mean, he landed and that's the combination of starting strong.
44:32Let's see if Charles is content with just holding on to him and landing shots,
44:38or if he makes a concerted effort to try to finish the ground in power.
44:42Can I be the guy that asked?
44:43Yes.
44:44Can I be the guy that asked?
44:45It's been unbelievably dominant.
44:47Right.
44:48Right.
44:48But BMF?
44:50Like, BMF, do we expect maybe more striking?
44:53I mean...
44:54I'm just asking.
44:55I have to be the guy...
44:56There's a brother-effing grappler in UFC history.
44:58Yes.
44:58I mean...
44:59I have to be the guy to that.
45:00I mean...
45:01I actually like the fact that every round begins on the feet.
45:03Yes.
45:03I mean, this is crazy.
45:04This is crazy.
45:04What's the problem?
45:05I'm just...
45:06I'm not saying there's a problem.
45:07I'm just asking, John.
45:09Okay.
45:09I don't think it's any different.
45:11I don't think it's any different than any other fight.
45:13It's a fight.
45:13Okay.
45:14He just dominated, arguably...
45:16Yes, he did.
45:17...the best volume striker in UFC history.
45:18He's a plus 165 underdog.
45:20Right?
45:20Yes.
45:21I hear you, champ.
45:22I'm just asking.
45:23I don't know.
45:23I just didn't know if the BMF signified more of a, you know, we're going to kind of go
45:28just let it all hang out here.
45:29Eh.
45:29That's nonsense.
45:31Okay.
45:31Okay.
45:32I mean, we think about that because of Max.
45:34Yes.
45:35Yes.
45:35Maybe that's because of the way Max is representing the title.
45:38I mean, imagine if Oliveira jumps up.
45:40Right.
45:41The last 15 seconds.
45:43Oh, he's not obligated to do that.
45:45That's nice.
45:45He did say that.
45:47Max said he had...
45:47They asked him if he would be willing to give him 15.
45:50He said Charles wasn't as open to answering that.
45:55I wouldn't do it.
45:57Not now.
45:58Why would he?
45:59I mean, this is the clearest cut, unanimous decision we've ever seen in a sport.
46:04I mean, this is just complete domination with Max not having any great moments.
46:08There it is, Max.
46:09This is the first time Max has gotten back to his feet when taken down.
46:15Now, let's give Oliveira his flowers.
46:19Last summer, we watched him get knocked out bad.
46:22He has not won two fights in the Lord, he's going to become the BMF champion.
46:25Oh, and a big right hand late.
46:27Oh, he did it.
46:27Oh, he did it.
46:28Oh!
46:29Oh, Holloway gets cracked with a right.
46:31Woo!
46:31Back right here for Holloway, but that will do it.
46:34And new...
46:35He did it.
46:36He did it.
46:36The champion, Charles Oliveira.
46:39Wow.
46:39He did it.
46:40He landed a nasty shot.
46:42Yeah, and he rocked him.
46:42He hit him with a nasty right hand.
46:45And then back to the back.
46:46I mean, Charles Oliveira is in another class.
46:50He really is in another class.
46:54And you knew Charles Oliveira was going to be of a heightened focus with his parents here for the first
47:02time.
47:03His daughter, Tyla, his son, Dominic.
47:05And there's the embrace.
47:09What a moment in a career full of them for the future of Oliveira, Charles Dubrox Oliveira.
47:21I mean, what a dominant performance by Charles Oliveira.
47:25I mean, dominated him standing up, dominated him on the ground, took him down at will.
47:31Completely controlled him on the ground.
47:33Just a spectacular performance by the former lightweight champion and now the new BMF champion.
47:44I mean, Max did not have any moments in this fight.
47:48There was no moments.
47:49And look at that right hand that just rocked him.
47:52I don't know that I've ever seen him get beaten this way.
47:56Never.
47:56Not like this.
47:57Not controlled and dominated like that.
48:01What a night for Charles Oliveira.
48:05The official decision coming up next.
48:07Back to Vegas in third.
48:44All right, we are back live inside T-Mobile Arena.
48:47Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira go the distance.
48:51As Oliveira looks to add a BMF championship to the mantle.
48:58This is a man who previously won the undisputed lightweight title, successfully defended it.
49:05And man, the response from Oliveira after getting knocked out by Ilya Topodia to submit Mataj Gamron and then perform
49:12this way against Max Holloway.
49:18Remarkably adds another layer to his appreciable legend.
49:22One final time tonight.
49:23Here's Bruce.
49:26Ladies and gentlemen, after five rounds, we go to the judges scorecards for decision.
49:32All three judges score this contest 50-45 for the winner by unanimous decision and new undisputed UFC BFF champion
49:51of the world, Charles DeVos Oliveira.
50:04Ohhhhhhhhhh!
50:15For real, man. I respect you so much. I admire so much. We're different than other people. We sell FICE
50:20all the way.
50:21We're so... The my biggest pride is to represent my family just like you. It was amazing to be with
50:26you.
50:31These dudes come here and talk a lot of crap.
50:33We come here, we do a lot of beautiful things for our family.
50:36We fight, and we do great things for our kids.
50:42If this division's got two BMFs, those two BMFs are Charles Oliveira and Max Holloway.
51:01Ladies and gentlemen, I'm here with the winner and new BMF champion, Charles Oliveira, and his very, very happy family.
51:12Charles, you've had an amazing career with amazing performances.
51:17This one might be one of your best.
51:19Just a complete, total dominant performance against one of the all-time greats.
51:24Charles, you've had enormes, vitórias, tremendous performances, but maybe this one might have been your best.
51:31Dominant from the beginning to the end, against a legend.
51:33I want to thank God for all this beautiful family.
51:35This is all for him, for this wonderful family.
51:37Max is one of the most difficult guys I've ever fought.
51:39It could not be different. I could not be wrong. I had to come here and win.
51:43First and foremost, I want to thank God for giving me this beautiful family that I have here.
51:47Listen, Max is the toughest guy I've ever fought against.
51:50He couldn't beat any other way. I had to come here and dominate.
51:56Coming into this fight, the oddsmakers had you an underdog, which I found very surprising.
52:03Did that bother you at all?
52:05Antes de começar essa luta, muitas casas de apostas tinham você como azarão e ele como favorito.
52:10Ele achou isso que não era verdade. O que você achou?
52:14Isso incomodou?
52:14Isso é importante, só que nós fazemos dinheiro.
52:18Isso não é importante. Nós todos fazemos dinheiro, de qualquer forma.
52:21Você definitivamente faz isso.
52:22Bem, você está em uma posição incrível agora.
52:25Você é um dos grandes grandes. Você é agora o campeão do BMF.
52:46Hunter, you know, if there's another fight in the White House or anything for the title, you know where to
52:51find me.
52:51This was the fight of the night, of course.
52:53Listen, there's always room for you, sir.
52:56Charles, you're one of the all-time greats.
52:58It is an honor to call your fight.
53:00Congratulations, sir.
53:04He gets it.
53:06Ladies and gentlemen, Charles Oliveira.
53:19Max, I know this is a tough moment for you.
53:23The heart and courage that you displayed here tonight, able to endure, able to withstand those submissions, it was incredibly
53:31impressive.
53:34What was the game plan coming in here, and what, if anything, was surprising?
53:39You know, it's a sticky move, you know, but they came with a better game plan.
53:44You got to give it up for Oliveira, guys.
53:47Talvez a fire, a true BMF, and wouldn't have it any other way.
53:52Do you have thoughts in mind of what's next?
53:57Yeah.
53:58I'm going to come back, whoop somebody's ass, and be right in title contention again.
54:01You ain't seen that he's done.
54:03I ain't done yet.
54:04I ain't done yet.
54:05I'm going to see Mr. Oliveira again, bro.
54:08That's for sure.
54:09Spoken like a true champion.
54:10Thank you, sir.
54:11Ladies and gentlemen, Max Holloway.
54:14Class of defeat, as you might expect.
54:17Thrill on one side, agony on the other.
54:20Nice to see Charles Oliveira's father, Francisco Antonio, busted a move.
54:24His mother, Rosanna, also here.
54:28But mutual respect is on high between these two combatants, and they settle their two-fight series here tonight.
54:34One Life, the official American beer sponsor of UFC.
54:37Easy to celebrate, easy to enjoy, and celebrating they are indeed.
54:43Team Oliveira across Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the entire nation, and here in Las Vegas.
54:48What a night for the future of the Hall of Fame.
